I visited this YMCA yesterday with my daughter. We became members as a family. Harry helped us with our membership and was an absolute delight. He was friendly, knowledgeable and patient. He had answers to all of our questions. Fred was another staff member who took time out of his busy afternoon to give my daughter an orientation to the cardio room. He made us laugh and feel comfortable. We bought a smoothie from the cafe and it was a delicious treat. We also took some time to play a fun game of foosball after our workout. This is a great place for the whole family.

Itβs a great gym but can get pretty gross.. I came here on a Saturday morning and there was tp all over the floor in the bathroom, wipes in the cup holders on gym equipment, lots of dirt and dried up liquids on lots of machines and surrounding mats. Dirty tables in the eating area. Kinda nasty especially during these post covid world not to mention top dollar paid to be a member here.

The Y is amazing. The staff are so friendly and helpful. When you walk in it feels so welcoming and they serve kids, families and people from all walks of life. The classes are great- I recently took a wonderful Thai Chi class and a vigorous movement class. They have new strengthening equipment that is designed to help you meet your goals. Each time you use it, you simply scan your specially programmed bracelet and the weights and seating adjusts to you so you donβt have to adjust the equipment each time you use it. They are also a nonprofit organization and they do great things for kids and families in the community. I would highly recommend the Y!

Please fix the air conditioner! This has happened multiple times since May. Itβs been 3 days and all I see is a guy putting together a new fan to blow around 90 degree air. Still 90 degrees and fans blowing dust and dirt remains the solution. When asked for prorated credit I was told no - youβll need to wait until November and cancel. Absolutely horrible customer service. Clean the bathrooms while youβre at it and bring back the former equipment as the new system is terrible - you can use that money to fix/replace HVAC lol
LA Fitness here we come even though we live three houses from the Y. And it is cheaper!
Three weeks after initial review and still no ventilation system in the gym! Since I could not get money refunded when system broke and was not repaired or replaced I was stuck until end of October (we will leave that customer service snafu alone for now). The newest issue is 7 and 8 year olds on treadmills at peak hours as we adults stand and waitβ¦β¦β¦do not believe the tv ads ads, the ymca is not the place to join

We've been members for seven years, used camp, activities, classes, fitness center, stay and play, run the turkey trot every year, see people we know there all the time. It's not that every single program is perfect in every way but the breadth of programs and the match of the programming to the community is so impressive. It's genuinely made it easier for us to be working parents and provided a lot of wonderful experiences for my kids.

Gym is great. Stay and play needs work.
Was waiting out a thunderstorm with my son and I asked if I could sit with him in the stay and play. After 10 minutes they asked me to leave. They said their policy was to only allow the parent there for an adjustment period of 10 minutes max. After I left, a staff member came to find me about 10 minutes later. They said he was crying too much. They proceeded to take away his toys and had me take him out, after which he cried m more for 30 min. This experience ruined the evening for both of us; I seriously donβt know why I pay to come here.

Just to be clear, the level of competence of the current administration and level of concern it has for its members is to reduce volleyball to 1 hr. Also making its members setup two net systems and take them down. This in contrast to basketball and pickleball which occupy 3-4x the time of the gym each. Their response to members who complain are to encourage them to leave.

My experience started out great, an older gentleman i believe his name was henry. We signed up for the try the Y membership. We travel in our converted skoolie with dogs. Day 2 of going to the Y we received a very rude call about our dogs in the bus.so I returned to the bus with my dogs That had fans in the front, ice water, and AC in the rear of the bus. 15 minutes later, we received another call this time from a YMCA employee. ( Zayvon ) was also very rude and side we had to leave because it was the busy time and parking is for valued customers and made it clear we are not wanted here. From my bus window, I counted over 40 open parking spots.

Mostly a good place to work out, and the staff is friendly. However, there are a few caveats. The most frustrating is that for the last few years, this location closes several times during the year for staff training. Why can't they do staff training on their time instead of the time we expect? Hours are a bit odd compared to most YMCA around the country. Guest policy at this location is one of the worst in the country.

I am blind, and was welcomed and greatly assisted by the Fitness Director Michelle, who personally showed me all the new AI EGYM fitness equipment and was sincerely interested in making sure all this wonderful new technology was accessible to me. I am very grateful For the welcome I received at the Orokawa Y in Towson and look forward to improving my fitness with this amazing new technology in the coming months.
Update after using this new, high-tech fitness equipment for several weeks now, I can attest that it is really helping me improve my health. It is not completely accessible to me as a blind user, because it can be a bit tricky finding the start button on the screen to initiate the exercise (I may affix a small clear dot to the underside of the screen to help orient myself to more effectively locate the start button). Other than that, it is overwhelmingly accessible so this is just a small hurdle. These machines do such a great job isolating the particular muscle group you are working, that the whole process doesn't take too long as a function of this high efficiency. It is awesome that simply tapping the wristband to the bottom center of the screen on each of the machines, that the machine automatically adjust itself specifically for your needs and prepares the electromagnetic resistance precisely for your purposes⦠a truly wonderful use for AI. One quirky problem: these exercise machines are so incredibly quiet because their resistance is electromagnetic instead of traditional metal plates, that it's difficult to hear whether or not the next machine in sequence is being used by someone⦠That's a challenge when you can't see too make that determination! The last thing I want to do is attempt to use a machine that's already being used by someone else⦠So I'm working on using an AI app on my iPhone/smart glasses to quickly determine if the machine is available before I attempt to adjust it and sit down.! (the last thing I would want to do, is inadvertently sit in a stranger's lap)

We love the Orokawa branch! The classes are always great, and the family locker room has plenty of private spaces. The family pool is a hit with its sprinklers and slide, but our favorite perk is the Stay and Play. The big kids have their own space, while babies get a separate area with lots of room and toys. My son always has a blast, and so do I!

The place is decent, but basically runs on auto-pilot. This is exemplified on the weekends when there is often no staff assigned to the fitness room. This practice is dangerous, and demonstrates a disregard for basic safety. Add to that they no longer enforce various standard safety rules (e.g., footwear requirements), and often don't even enforce their own posted rules (like people taking pictures or talking on the phone) Additionally, for some reason, they keep making questionable changes to the fitness room over the past few years - the latest being a nutty choice to go quite heavy with dumbbells. Now they have TWO pairs of every weight above 40lbs, yet they have ONE PAIR of 15lb, 20lb & 25lb dumbbells. This while also taking away free space near the newly installed, second squat deck. Someone is obviously making decisions bending to the will of 20+ year-olds who want to go "heavy" serving the average age & abilities of the people who pay to use this Y. Don't even get me going about the bathrooms on the weekends. With the changes & the new year, you may want to avoid this place during January.

Came here twice in two weeks to renew my membership, both times I spoke with different representatives who pushed me away to the customer service hotline knowing it was after hours. No one reached out to get a supervisor to further escalate my membership issue. Went to a different y, they escalated my issue showed empathy understanding and compassion and my membership got renewed in under 5 mins!!! The amenities are updated and cool but the customer service team sucks for complex issues.

I just come for the luxurious experience. I am still in awe after coming here for many years. Used to come to the old one even though I was going to Towson University with all the facilities. Nice water and great hours for seniors in the lap pool. Pickel ball pickup games are the friendliest group I've found in Towson. Has 3 newly painted courts in April 2024 and one court in smaller gym. Naked old men in the bathrooms. Every bathroom. Just constantly. Every way you look. Naked old men. They just appear. I was takin a leak once right before closing, not a single soul in the place. I spend about 3 seconds peeing, open the stall door, naked old man. Right there. I have no idea how he even got in bro he was just standing there, wrinkled, the skin hanging off his white pasty body like a sheet. He didnβt even take a shower or anything he just stood there while I slowly left. Waited for like 30 mins after closing outside to see if the old sap was ok. Never saw him leave. Spine chilling. Thatβs why I am scared of ghosts. Stay safe. Still 5 stars cus wonderful pool and many treadmills.

My family have been a Y member for around 5 year, and I think I will cancel my membership due to a recent very unpleasant interaction with their "executive director", who IMO is very arrogant, insensitive, and can not take any complains/criticism.
Of course there're more reasons for the cancellation other than this unpleasant "director". I normally only went to Y once a week on Friday afternoon with kids for the swimming in the lap pool. But it's getting very crowded within the last year, there's only two or less lane for open swimming in any given weekday afternoon, the main reason is that within the last year they dramatically increased their swimming team training sessions ( which need extra payment and takes up three lanes) and maybe more swimming classes ( which also need extra payment and take up 1-2 lanes), so there's very few lane left from their 6 lanes lap pool. Even if you are lucky to get an open lane, their closing-indoor-pool-for-any-lighting-within-6-miles-radius policy will interrupt your swimming surprisingly often during summer season, even when it seems sunny outside...

Overcrowded pool. Not the place if you plans mainly to do lap swim. There is always something going on there, either water aerobics, swimming lessons, swimming team, people can wait 15-20 min to get an open lane. The lap swim pool is always dirty! Although I complained for the mangers/workers there few times, doesn't seems they are going to change the overcrowded situation.

I go to the Y every day. I swim three days a week and lift weights three days a week. On the seventh day, I ride an exercise bike and use the rowing machine. The Y keeps me healthy and fit.

There is a young lady with a piercing across the bridge of her nose, who works the rock climbing wall who think it is acceptable to interrogate children. The young adults in stay and play are very kind and helpful.

Love the Orokawa Y in Towson! Lots to do for the entire family - many different programs and activities for all ages and abilities! Staff is friendly, building is nice, plenty of parking (although it does get close to full on weekends!), including ADA spots close to the door. Our grandsons play soccer here and we thoroughly enjoy watching them play at the Y!
