I had been working out on my own for quite some time, but hit a point where I wanted to lift heavier and push further. The X called out to me because of the feedback factor. I needed guidance to secure good form and proper usage of machines. I get that guidance daily and even when I think I have an exercise perfected, a kind coach will cue slight adjustments for best results. I'm grateful for the support as well as the customized programming that keeps me focused and motivated - my workouts are never boring. I am happy when I am at the the X.

In February 2024, I came across a Facebook ad that asked, "Are you over forty and tired of feeling tired?" My first thought was, "Is this ad speaking directly to me?" After meeting with Michael, the rest is truly history. In the year I've been a member of this gym, I've gained muscle, improved my endurance, and no longer worry about fitting into restaurant booths. I've also gained confidence and dropped from a size 26/28 to a 22, among other incredible changes. The trainers and coaches are truly dedicated—they take the time to listen, personalize both my workout and nutrition plans, and check in with me regularly. The atmosphere here is warm, welcoming and accepting regardless of where you are in your fitness journey. I’m an over 60 woman who hasn’t exercised in years; they developed a program that’s working for me (so far!) The coaches are supportive and knowledgeable in a judgement-free zone. I’m so glad I discovered The X Factor Gym! The coach-led and assisted training sessions have been amazing. The coaches are incredibly supportive, always encouraging me to push for more reps or higher weights, which has led to noticeable gains in both strength and muscle definition. The X Project Fitness really is "Proudly Different."
As someone who has been overweight and insecure in gym settings most of her life, it was so nice to finally be able to step into a gym and feel like I belong there. Other members are there and focused on their personal journeys but are always so friendly, polite, and supportive. There is not a gym-goer who has ever made me feel insecure at The X!
The owner, Michael, and the whole coaching staff are so knowledgeable (and continue to learn and adjust what they teach us), encouraging, understanding, and are just all around amazing people. They really do care about you, no matter what kind of fitness journey you're on, and want to see you succeed. No matter what success means for you! They push you through motivation and inspiration, and always remind you that progress doesn't happen overnight.

This is a great program to start, re-start, or enhance your fitness journey. I joined hoping I might have at least a little more success than with previous efforts. This has been the simplest, most effective system I've worked with and I have enjoyed excellent results! (The extra weight fell off and I had to buy new clothes -- which I am NOT mad at!!) It really helps that there are always fun, dedicated coaches keeping you on track!

My fiancé and I joined the X a little over a year from our wedding day with the goal to lose some weight and try to look our best for our big day.
We have been there 3 months now and have loved every minute of it. All of the coaches there are super supportive and understanding. They want to see you succeed and push you to do your best.
There is so much support and guidance in their program so even if you feel stuck or feel like something isn’t working they talk to you and try to adjust whatever the issue is right there on the spot.
All in all, I have never had a gym experience like this before and I was certainly nervous at first. After signing up and sticking with it, I am so glad that I did!
If you are even thinking about joining, just do it. You won’t regret it.

The X has a motto, “Proudly Different.” I started there as a new member in October, at my wits end after about 25 years of yo-yo weight battling. I was ready to consider bariatric surgery - had just had to have my wedding rings cut off for being too tight. Even successful strategies I had found over the years were no longer working, because every time I was doing it on my own, I had to rely on my own willpower and motivation alone, which definitely was not a consistent thing. Fast forward to last night, January 12. After three months of support, encouragement, gentle coaching, realistic strength training, weekly guidance, and surprisingly little in the way of dietary changes, I found myself in the gym, 24 pounds lighter and a lot stronger - but most of all, I had two people there with me, who have become friends, sitting next to me, counting off reps and seconds for me, and encouraging me to try to go one more if I could, making jokes about my favorite rockstar as we went. And I really felt in that moment what “proudly different” means. I have never felt a moment’s shame or intimidation in this place. I have gone there on days where I really didn’t feel like it, or was too stressed out, or barely had time, but I had an appointment, and that accountability makes me go. And every time, I found myself leaving there in a much better mood, glad that I went, because it actually solved my bad mood and stress, which was a surprise to me. I’ve never been a big exerciser, except for certain years when I had found some extra willpower, but it was never like this. I feel supported by a Team. I feel like finally I will be able to achieve the lifelong weight loss that has so eluded me and be able to actually extend years of my life. My day-to-day coach is the sweetest, strongest, 80-year-old woman I’ve ever met and I want to be just like her when I grow up. I’m turning 50 this year, and I’m so proud to feel younger already than I even did last year at this time. Best of all, my children and my family have noticed an increased energy level, and I’m able to enjoy life with them more, which is the ultimate goal. I am forever grateful to The X and it is definitely worth every penny!

The X reminds me of math. Basically finding your own formula to succeed ( x= ?). After a tough and emotional year, I decided to challenge myself and learn something new. I contacted them and we met for an initial consultation. I thought it was going to be like a regular gym but I was wrong. Every member has a personalized routine based on their needs. Coach Michael meets with you regularly to check your process and there are always coaches on the floor helping and motivating you during your workout. Coach Maggie is my favorite! She is caring, attentive and supportive. I have been attending for four months and I have learned not only the routines but how capable I am to overcome any situation. Thanks for all you do X team!

The X is the best and has done wonders ~ I feel better, have more energy, lost loads of excess weight, and got stronger. Moving here from Tampa, I tried all the Big Box gyms, "boutique" nonsense, supervised recess-style workouts, workouts-of-the-day, fitness piped in via TV, and the personal training scams, etc., but The X is the only method that worked. Disciplined but flexible. Structured but creative. Difficult but enjoyable. Profoundly Different is absolutely right.
The Coaches are awesome, personable, friendly, and genuinely concerned about me. Helpful when needed, scarce when required, and always there to spot, suggest a better way, and encourage. It's like having a personal cheerleader, trainer, teacher, and mentor all-in-one. Their commitment to personalized service is exemplary and exceeded all expectations. The principles learned at The X have begun guiding much of my life ~ heath, fitness, nutrition, eating habits, and life overall. The transformation has been awesome and I'm loving the "new and improved me" ~ thank you, X, thank you.

This is not the standard gym experience. The owner/coach cares about you and your goals. The programming is based on what you need whether it is losing weight or just getting back to exercising. He will be with you every step of the way and help you achieve the goals you set. Have no idea what you want, he will help you figure that out. All the coaches are there to help make sure you have what you need and make sure you do the movements correctly to avoid injury.

Forget everything you know about “gyms.” The X is an experience. The coaches work with you to reach every goal you have. Want to get stronger, healthier, move easier, lose weight, tone, gain muscle, etc., The X will get you there. I started with Michael in 2019. I couldn’t walk through the grocery store without pain. I couldn’t touch my toes. Imagine his excitement when I did touch my toes 3 months later. I think he was more excited than I was!! His perseverance towards my success is insurmountable. He wants me to succeed. For me, this is the difference. He works with me not for me. He talks with me, not at me. I always feel heard and he has helped me get stronger and healthier.

If I could give 10 stars I would. The X-Project is one of the best CrossFit style gyms hands down. All coaches and members are more than welcoming and make you feel like family in no time. It does not matter if you are an extreme fit athlete, a couch potato wanting to get back in the gym or somewhere in between, this gym is for everyone. All workouts have modifications for all body types and the coaches all are very helpful in helping you find which movements and modifications are best for you. The owner Michael, is amazing. I mostly did one on one training with Kati but took a few classes here and there with Michael. If I had any injury or needed any modification he always had another movement for me. And he always remembered for the next time I was there. He truly cares about everyone who walk through those doors. As for Kati, she is the best. She will push you harder than you think you can go and always makes the workouts fun. She is very knowledgeable and truly cares for her clients. After 2.5 years with them, I am very sad to be leaving due to my job. I will for sure be back to visit and do some workouts.

I was a member of X-project starting around Nov 2015 and left around Jan 2019. I have been crossfitting since 2011 - where I started with a personal trainer at Bally's which incorporated some of the crossfit movements. I have traveled extensively and visited several Crossfit boxes nationally. Here's what I loved about X-project:
1. Space - there's tons of space and parking. Facilities are outside of the gym area with separate changing rooms.
2. Equipment/Cleanliness - The equipment is top-notch. 99.9% of the time there were wipes and everyone used them. Also, the floor was cleaned regularly.
3. Community/Coaches - everyone was encouraging, friendly, and supportive.
4. Programming - The WODs and strength work was released for the week, month or quarter. Each WOD had a purpose for strength, endurance/stamina, or a benchmark.
I wish X-Project continued success!

Wow - worked with Kyle, Nik, Greg and Sandi - was loving crossfit - the owner decided to remove 0830 class with no explanation and then his egotistic self though he could teach all classes and the Paying Customers would embrace his "elite athlete only" attitudes. In addition to his constant "FU yelling" and loud intimidating behaviors!
Since I am not an elite athlete - I did not feel he really cares and was willing to work with the rest of us paying customers.
If you can get Kyle or Sandi (Greg and Nik left) as instructors then you will enjoy them. Both deserve pay raises for all their hard work! They have huge followings and classes were fun.
Bottom line is the poor decisions by the owner is what makes XProject a poor failicity. Lack of communication and explanation and professionalism is why I left. BTW found other crossfit groups with better prices!! Check out - Crossfit Odin in Frederick and Crossfit 301 in Hagerstown.

No matter what aspect of your health you want to improve---all things physical or mental---the X Project is the place to get the job done. I've been a member of the YMCA and two big name chain gyms and the X Project has them all beat hands down. I've personally transformed from being over 300 pounds and taking 16 prescription meds per day to being 100 pounds lighter and taking only one prescription medication. I am stronger physically and mentally than I have ever been in my entire life. I did the work, but it was the expert coaching that I received at X Project that allowed me to reach my goals. In addition to the excellent coaching I now have an extended family in the other X Project members---we are all united in a quest to be the best version of ourselves that we can be. I walk away from every X Project workout feeling stronger mentally and physically and one step closer to being the best version of myself that I can be.

I have been a member of the X-project since it opened its doors, and have been training under the guidance of Michael Gaines for the past two and a half years. Over that time I have enjoyed watching my physique change, my athletic performance improve and elevating my training regimen to a new level.
Michael, and his methods as a coach have helped revive athletic ambitions in me that had been somehow tucked away under the stresses of life, years of misguided training, "athletic abuse" and other general misconceptions I learned along the way.
I am stronger, faster, and leaner (even gaining flexibility) and I owe most of that to simply committing to the training plan at X-Project. I am certainly not one to settle into a monotonous routine, and feel that the training in here which consist of combination elements focused on gymnastics, weightlifting, and body weight movements keeps me challenged day in and day out. At the same time it focuses me, so I don't have to struggle at the gym trying to pull together an effective workout. The X-Project training program keeps my body guessing, and my performance increasing. In turn I am not only living life as I wish, but I am thriving!
While I've been here I have accomplished some life long fitness goals in a relatively short period of time, all while meeting some really amazing people that make up this fitness community.

You know you are working hard when the sweat gets in your eyes. Sweat is fat crying. Michael Gaines is serious about your health and how you get there. No shortcuts for him. I have been a part of the X-Project family for over half a year now and looking forward to many many more years to come. Michael Gaines (Lead Coach) is patient and always there to encourage when the going gets tough. His knowledge in regards to Cross fit in particular and human anatomy in general is impressive.
I was pushed into trying a free session by my wife . Suffice it to say, I signed up on the spot and never looked back . The X-Project saved me from getting numerous back injections, which I was convinced I certainly needed to alleviate the ongoing pain( I am an MD , so who knows better then me? LOL) . Micheal took the time to demonstrate various exercises and help me get over the hump . I am virtually pain free and plan to go for the Full Marathon this year . I feel the strongest and fittest I have felt in a long time.
I would definitely recommend to anyone who is serious about Cross fit or just generally looking to get in shape .
