I had an issue with Lauren today. She doesn’t seem very child-friendly, which is concerning since the Yβ€”especially the child care areaβ€”has always been a place that welcomes kids. I spoke with one of the higher ups today and she was amazing and really addressed my concerns. I turned the one star into 3 stars. I felt seen.

What we don’t need to do is give loud and piercing overcome messages for every 5 minutes closer to close starting at 9:30. The Towson Y is bigger and has a bigger crowd but they don’t do that at all. I get that you want to get out of here, but your hours are until 10, so we have until 10 (at which point it would be more appropriate to give a message saying you’re closed but maybe away from the microphone a little).

We joined The Y this year with the goal of getting our kids more involved in sports, and it’s been a wonderful experience. The Y offers a wide variety of programs, many of which are free or have just a small participation fee, making it really accessible for families.

The coaches we’ve met so far have been nothing short of amazing. A big shoutout to Coach Julia, Coach Alex, and Mr. Dave! Thanks to their classes, my kids actually look forward to practice days. Their patience with young children, combined with their skill in teaching, has been so encouraging to see.

We’re grateful to have found such a positive, supportive environment for our kids to learn and grow.

The Y is a great place to be with friendly & helpful staff. Affordable rates for seniors & the ability to further lower your monthly rate through the open door program. The equipment is top of the line & well maintained. I have not participated in the activities yet but the Y has a variety of activities to offer such as yoga & other fitness exercise classes, pickle ball, paddle ball, swimming & more. A well maintained & monitored play area is available for parents to leave their children while exercising.

If you're an adult who doesn't have kids go somewhere else. This is not a gym, it's a daycare center. At least at the chucky cheese next door occasionally someone will try and corral the children or tell them to please use their indoor voices. Always packed, incredibly loud, and with a schedule that's more a suggestion for possible activities than anything you can count on (no lap swimming today, the only day when you can after 6pm, because octomom stopped by and her kids are in the lap lane). Not welcoming for adults. Not worth the membership

This gym is so much more fitness focused than any other 'muscle head' and 'tik tok' gym πŸ˜‚. You come to the Y to workout and focus on being your best self. Dawn and Elijah were the first people I met and honestly they are what sold me on the gym. I had my first Zumba class with Sheila and her energy was too notch. I also took a yoga class and that instructor was so nice as well. It's clean and welcoming.

Today I called The Parkville Y to discuss a personal issue I was facing, and therefore may have to cancel my membership. The women I spoke to was nothing but kind, helpful, and down right genuine. I felt heard and understood, and she did everything to help me in my situation to not loose my membership. The kindness was overwhelming and pure. It's rare these days to find someone who is genuinely compassionate about there job and cares about someone they have never personally met. This small act of kindness is something I will always remember. I highly recommend The Parkville Y!

This facility is safe and comfortable if you dont fit the conventional gym type or are looking for a smaller, well maintained space and machines + indoor swimming pool year round. I am a queer woman in my 30s, childfree, in a physically demanding career and trying to work on my relationship with myself. Glad to say I do not feel intimidated here like i at other so called judgement free zones. Looking forward to my journey here, thanks Y

I have only been a member of the Y in Parkville for just over a week, but my experience has been so exceptional that I wanted to write a review. ( I am 37, and I joined with my husband (41); we have no kids.)

The staff is warm and friendly - they all say hello to you, to everyone. It's like a neighborhood of people just looking out for one another. In fact, I know several people's names who work at the Y already - and I am terrible with names- but they are just all so welcoming. You are greeted when you walk in and said goodbye to when you leave.

It never feels too crowded- even at "peak" gym times, there's still space. It's clean- AND everyone (I mean, I havent seen one person who doesn't) wipes their equipment when they are done using it. (I usually go to the gym between 10-12pm but also have gone at 5pm)

I don't want to have to think about or plan a workout, I just don't take joy in the planning as much as the doing. So I signed up for FitQuest, a program that just gives you a daily workout routine based on a one-time evaluation of your fitness level. I use it every time I go in. I am a fan- Headphones on, workout begins.

I havent taken advantage of the pool or classes yet but look forward to doing so- I have RA, and I need to move my joints in a pool. The pool is a good-sized indoor pool, and I havent seen it busy yet.

I want to share my personal experience, but I hope this is helpful to anyone thinking about joining. I am a HUGE fan of this Y.

I have never really liked going to the gym. Id do it for a couple weeks, end up hurting myself due to an auto immune disease. So I would stop and not return. Here, every staff member is welcoming. They are always smiling. The environment is amazing and makes me excited to go to the gym! I do take it easier than I used to. BUT I do push through the pain. Not too much. But I will finish my sessions. I love the many different classes. Mainly the aqua ones! I love swimming it is easier on my joints. So I can't wait to actually try the classes! The machines are nice, some have screens you can change the channels on. Some have fans. Some have a screen that you can "bike" on the trails and roads through, canyons and valleys through Colorado. The facility is clean. The showers are even clean and good water pressure. Great gym.

New rules in play area that parents must be inside the area. You are unable to walk on a treadmill an extra 5’ away looking straight at your child(ren) playing. Really? Isn’t the point of coming to a gym to work out! Why make it so hard on parents? Come on and use some common sense.

The children's play area is filthy and despite repeatedly mentioning it to the staff, nothing is done. Furthermore the family locker-room is atrocious as well as slippery. I'd rather change my child in a barn.

You can find old food , wads of hair, crumbled bio-matter, dirt, and general filth throughout the children's play area. It's beyond "dirty" and crosses over to unsanitary. I've mentioned this to staff repeatedly over multiple weeks, and they do nothing. I've asked to speak to the manager repeatedly, and they can't be bothered to walk the 20 steps over to the children's play area to discuss it.

They do not respect the health and cleanliness of your children; and management is too disinterested to even engage about the subject.

Watch your young ones closely lest they end up eating someone's 3 week old mush off the ground in the playpens.

Disgraceful.

Jumped through all the hoops to pay all the fees to sign my son up for summer camp. They do not even have a list of all the fees u will have to pay through all the steps of trying to sign up. No times were listed for when any of these things started and spots were open. After paying all the fees and registering in the process of signing him up said all the spots had been filled (not the ymcs’s fault) went to the facility the next day to ask for a cancellation since we never attended and had been less than 24 hours. I was told the director would have to reach out to me about the refund. Has been almost a week and no one has attempted to contact me or issue a refund. Terrible service wish I could give a 0 star review.

I’m going to start this by saying we love 90% of the employees here and the gym in general. We’ve been consistent members for the last 3 years, and have had many many good experiences, but there’s now two issues from the same employee that have me very upset.
This is a women with blonde hair that’s a little taller that works there (not the shorter manager she’s great). She was working tonight 4/22/24. The first situation happened about a year ago while I was using MY ankle straps on the kick back machine. Someone complimented them and I said thanks. She butted in and said β€œyeah we use to own a pair of those” so incredibly condescending and accusatory. Claiming I β€œstole” them. I ignored that. But now tonight another situation happened with the same women. We had been asking the gym about a baseball glove that my son left there for the last 3 weeks, and everyone that checked said it wasn’t turned in. Tonight my kid was playing in the basketball room and noticed it in the closet, grabbed it, and ran it out to me SO excited and hands it to me. She follows him out and says β€œTHIS IS WHY YOU SHOULDNT BE IN THAT ROOM” while trying to snatch it out of my hand. I do not know who she thinks she is, but the way she treats and speaks to the members there is not ok. I really don’t want to change gyms but I’m really considering now after the way we were treated tonight.

And to add here’s a picture of my receipt to MY ankle straps I purchased and a picture of my son holding HIS glove (before it went missing) that we were so happy to finally get back tonight.

If it wasn’t for this women I would give a 5 star but she has honestly made me feel like I never want to go back.

My experience and my kids experience are not quite the same. I'm there 5 days a week, and just for exercise, it's great. Sylvie and Debbie are AM institutions there and are super helpful and friendly.

There's some inherent challenges to be able to offer camp and fun days and other kids programs there, swimming as well. There's just such limited space indoors, and there's no real outdoor space. It's hard for them to hold the same type of programs that the Weinberg Y and the Towson Y are able to just because they don't have the same type of facility.

I will say however, the services that they do have tend to be a little bit more reliable than the other locations. Stay and play does not seem to be closed or on waitlist nearly as much as Towson is, and exercise classes are easier to get into. Swim classes are a little bit less crowd and and the instructors seem a little bit more reliable. Overall, good experience over the last year with a family membership but with some room to improve. I do wish there were more yoga classes and group exercise offerings, especially in the later morning (10-12 am)

The Y in Parkville is a good place to continue your fitness journey! This location has a swimming pool! They also have room for aerobics and for practicing for soccer. I am not sure if they have anything for basketball I wish they had more machines the locker room area could be spruced up, in my opinion. It's a little cramped in that aspect. But, I definitely recommend them, if you are in the Parkville area.

I like how the membership allows you access to many of the Y locations through out Maryland, have great variety of fitness classes to take that are included in the membership. What I like most is you are not attached to a yearly contract or anything like that. You can cancel at anytime if for some reason you can no longer pay for a membership and they also provide assistance if you run into such a problem. I also loved the added virtual group workouts to access from home anytime.

Clean environment. New equipment. New machines. New treadmills. New bikes. Just a fabulous place to train. Go in the morning, not crowded at all. Weight room separate from treadmills and cable machines. Most Ys try to cram in the free weight section into the running area. Not this Y. Great/Friendly Staff. Kid friendly. Swimming for all. Must reserve in advance.

For a facility the claims to be family centered they are not! I will never return there and due to my experience I am considering completely canceling my membership all together! My 2 year old was suspended for a week from stay and play as a β€œsafety concern”. The staff was unable to accommodate him and told me he needed one on one supervision they cannot do because he cannot be left alone (which I find surprising because he’s never had this issue anywhere else) and when we went to Towson a few days we did not go to parkville he was fine! He played by himself. I had no complaints the only complaints I received was from the youth director who suspended him and because of that my family can’t do to ANY ymca in the area because it’s across the board! It would have been nice if they told me he was suspended and not that he needs a β€œbreak” because I showed up to Towson only to be completely embarrassed and humiliated by their directed when they told me a notification came up as well as her speaking to the director about my son. So now he’s been labeled as a trouble maker and he’s only 2. What could suspending a 2 year old possibly do!? He doesn’t even stay still for time out I don’t know any 2 year old that will! He is 2!!!! If there was an issue with my son they should have came and got me to address it as soon as it happened not wait and then suspend him! They did not even give him or my family a chance. I was told we can still use the services just he can’t go to stay and play for a week. The whole reason we joined was to go as a family so if my son cannot go to stay and play non of use can go! So now I’m paying for a membership we can’t even use for a week! I’ve never experienced such a lack of consideration and prejudice towards my son! He is a typical 2 year old and their lack of patience and consideration is disgusting! He is bigger than a normal 2 year old but at the end of the day he is 2! I’ll never set foot inside that Y ever again! Family centered, I think not!

Friendly people, wide rang of machines. Fitness coach created an ever changing program for me which I can access on their app, love the videos that show you how to use the machines. Great array of classes, with suitable times for me coming home after work. And amazing price!
