About the Club

At Training Ground, our mission is to get our clients to look forward to their workouts with us. We deliver a supportive, welcoming environment conducive to all fitness backgrounds - anywhere from seniors to weight loss clients to olympic athletes. We serve individuals, partners and even small groups for training. We do not have any contracts, and as a locally owned business, the onus is on us to make sure our clients are happy. I am a 46 year old golf professional that was looking for some pain relief through past injuries and to hit the ball farther. Steve and I went to work and in a short period of time I was waking up pain free for the first time in years . Before we started I was swinging the club 110 mph with a ball speed around 160 and now I’m at 114/115 with a ball speed of 167-170. I feel stronger then ever with more mobility. Steve Evans knows what he is doing. He worked with my son for another summer who added 21 pounds of total body weight in 7 weeks. My son also added 70 pounds to his back squat, 70 pounds to his front squat, 75 pounds to his deadlift, 40 to his bench press, and 45 to his barbell row. Other improvements included achieving a full range of motion on his motion pistol squats, improved mobility in his hip and spine, and increased weight in his power clean. We can’t wait to see how these changes translate onto the baseball field this season. We will be back in 2025!

Training Ground is well-equipped for a variety of fitness goals and client types. Their fitness equipment and training space is well-maintained and clean. Their personalized fitness plans are dynamic and thoughtful, and trainers explain how each exercise helps your body, while also correcting form and offering encouragement. My own trainer, Josue, and every other trainer I observed were motivating and kind, and they always brought positive energy to the space. I would highly recommend TG for a beginner wanting to learn how to workout, and for an advanced client with specific fitness goals!

I love working out at TG Bethesda, especially with trainer Alice! It’s a great alternative to a typical gym (not my thing), and having someone there to guide us and tailor workouts to my personal fitness goals is such an effective use of time! I’ve become so much stronger and well-rounded as a dancer thanks to cross-training with Alice, and the value for partner training and getting to work out at Training Ground’s well-stocked and maintained facility is something I look forward to every week! I can’t recommend Alice as a trainer enough, either: she is patient, positive, and thoughtful, and has made working out fun *and* effective!

Training Ground is a great place to work out! They have dozens of kettlebells, several bars and benches, ropes, TRX systems.....

but it all comes down to the excellent trainers the have. I had the pleasure to get trained by three different guys and everyone was highly skilled, experienced, friendly and demanding. Teddy is for sure the best, but I guess other clients will say the same about their trainer :)

The only thing I am missing at this place is a shower.
All good things never come together, I guess

Training Ground is a great place for anyone looking to work with a great personal trainer. They do a great job pairing you with one of their many trainers based on your goals and personality. The person they paired me with (Teddy) was a perfect match for me. And since it is a facility just for trainers and their clients, it’s never crowded and you don’t have to deal with annoying gym people who are discourteous or rude. All the trainers who work there put stuff away, wipe things down, share the space, etc. I did a lot of research before selecting a trainer, and I have no regrets going with Training Ground. Highly recommend.

I am new to personal training and Training Ground. Should have done it years ago! Nice gym open only to those who are working with a trainer. You'll find the usual gym equipment, but uncrowded and with plenty of room. Feels like a safe space and a "no judgment zone." The process was simple: I met with Steve who asked about my training goals, he showed me around, and based on my goals and schedule, matched me up with a trainer. The only thing missing is a shower so I can head straight to the office after working out instead of having to detour home.

Keren is AWESOME! She makes sure to push me every time I meet with her and I definitely feel stronger because of it. Next Phase is great. Terrific facilities and excellent trainers. I have trained with Steve and Keren and both are really good at personalizing each workout to meet my needs and varying the moves to engage and challenge me. While I look forward to getting back to Training Ground, Keren has done an outstanding job of virtual training. All we need are a few dumbbells, some stretch bands and a yoga mat for floor work. Add a chair to help with balance and we are all set. I highly recommend Next Phase.

Another great year at Training Ground (2022). I chose to stay virtual with Keren and train twice a week using yoga mat, dumbbells, multiple stretch bands, large ball, and my body. We work on agility, balance, upper and lower body strength, core. endurance, etc. Good warm up to begin and stretches to end. The Training Ground gym is well equipped if you prefer to go there. Keren has helped me improve on all elements. And the manager Steve will match you with the best trainer for your needs and goals. I highly recommend Training Ground.

I have been working out with Jenai since the beginning of my pregnancy. I never write reviews but I have been working with Gail (my personal trainer) for almost a year and I have enjoyed every moment of it. For me working out consistently is a challenge because of work exhaustion but I know if I am having a particularly rough day Gail can adjust my training session to suit my needs. Plus the workouts are fun because I love to see myself do things I never thought I could do before. I even entered a Spartan Stadion race with Gail as my partner and managed to get to the finish line! It doesn't feel like a chore to work out but an outlet to de-stress plus everyone is friendly so it's not intimidating to go in regularly.

Absolutely fantastic place for group workout training. Circuit classes with groups (currently distanced per COVID) or small group training or 1-on-1 training (lots of options for working out here.
The trainers are amazing and positive, Camille, Emma, Karen are the trainers I've worked with most often and most recently and they are an absolute delight. Hour workouts are intense without being too much. Cardio mixed lifting: plyometrics, TRX, lifting, ropes, great workouts for the core and fits just about any training regimine. The Bethesda location is great, parking at the garage underneath.

The classes are small so it really feels like you have a personal trainer helping you with your form and keeping your pace while also having the benefits of the communal group setting (which for me is adds to the fun part of working out).
The teachers are all great and they have really well adapted to the COVID situation with outdoor classes, virtual options, and spaced out small group training.
They also have classes at a really good variety of times.
I have a weekly unlimited membership which I use to take between 3-5 classes a week in the evenings with Coach Jessica and it's really helped me with staying in shape and getting stronger and covers all my cardio and strength goals.

Next Phase in Bethesda became my way to get through the week, with it's noon classes, fantastic instructors and just amazing playlists blasting. I love the breakout of strength and cardio, and interval exercise. I'm surprised each time I go to class now (as it's been quite a while between each one) when Emma, my fav, remembers me! It's hard to believe I have been going to Next Phase for *almost* a year—this is coming from someone who gets bored pretty easily and typically hops around gyms. With Next Phase, I am invested. Every class is different and constantly keeps me on my toes. I now go every day and genuinely enjoy my time there. Every coach is amazing — Michael will keep you laughing (gotta work the abs), Radames will have you sweating by the end of a warm up (no mercy-but in a good way), Abby will keep you smiling and motivated (great energy), and Karly is great at breaking things down for you (form is hard sometimes). I could go down the list of amazing qualities for each coach, but I think the best thing about Next Phase is the community they create for the people they train. I trained with Steve immediately prior to deployment with the military. I was extremely happy with my experience. The training was outstanding and I noticed a physical change in only 5 sessions. I was also impressed with the availability/flexibility and professionalism of the staff. I work odd hours and often couldn't commit to sessions until the day of; they were ready and willing to work with my schedule. They also offered challenging group fitness classes free of charge. I've taken a couple of classes this week at Next Phase through Classpass, with Keren and Andy, and I'm hooked! Their classes and energy are awesome. Go there, prepare to be challenged, find your own pace, push hard and know the experienced instructors will work with you, motivate and make you do each exercise right. Impressive. I hate taking classes as I'm a bodybuilder. However, Andy was extremely welcoming. Even though we were from out of town, he treated us with respect. I'd definitely return if I lived locally.

As for the class, it was challenging. Didn't realize how weak my core was until taking the class. Andy was full of energy. He is very straight forward with the class. He encourages others to push harder.

I had a blast, and the first class was free. Great times!

It's everything you need in 1 place--strength training, sculpting & stretching, cardio dance (hip hop & zumba), kickboxing, TRX + kettlebells, barre, etc. The instructors push you to give it 100%, while still maintaining good form, and they are always more than willing to answer any questions/concerns. Love the great location, friendly staff, and cozy community feel.
