Vance was fabulous! Incredibly welcoming and I loved his style during the class. He was light heartened and funny but still made it very heartfelt and mindful. I was a little hesitant coming to a class, specifically with a male instructor because I'm not well-versed in yoga, but he made me completely comfortable and I can't wait to come back again.

Visiting this weekend for the music festival and I was beyond excited to find a yoga studio near where I’m staying. The studio appears to be clean, organized and welcoming until the owner speaks. Class instructor, Julie, was kind and easy to follow. However the owner, Candice, left a lot more to be desired. She was condescending, unpleasant, disagreeable, short, and tactless. Candice Hennessey, is one of the rudest studio owners I have ever interacted with.

When I entered the studio I had to share that I was visiting, and new to the studio, because after I gave my name to check in she just stared at me blankly, and she was not going to offer me any introduction or guidance, other than telling me to remove my watch. She proceeded to tell me that the studio was technology free meaning no phones or smart watches. Admittedly I was shocked, as I always practice with my Apple Watch on. I do so on “do not disturb,” but still wear it. I’m sure the shock on my face was obvious. I was taken back, and honestly thought about skipping the class. As I stood shocked Candice continued to talk down to me, over explaining her policy, and even said, “this isn’t a gym, this isn’t a place to track movement.” I never raised my voice, shifted my tone, or fought her, I was just confused and standing still. I hesitantly joined the class (I already paid for it after all), and imagine my surprise when I settled in to class and saw a student wearing a smart watch after I was chastised for wanting to wear mine, and being made to remove it. It was so distracting to me, I did step out of class to inquire about it.

Candice replied by asking me if I was an adult and told me to get over it. I was also told that despite the fact that I was traveling, there was nothing I could do for the hour I was in class that if there was a true emergency, anyone needing to contact me could choose to call “real” help like 911. She also said, “I can’t believe I’m even having this conversation with you,” after I acknowledged that her tone of voice and behavior was unacceptable and that I was attempting to communicate respectfully. She dug her heels in, continuing her power trip, tell me she’s been a successful studio owner for 3 years, and other nonsense she felt was justifying her behavior. It also good to note we were assured the door would be locked while in class to protect our belongings. When I left class, slightly early due to the negative energy, Candice was nowhere to be found in the lobby area, shower was running and the door unlocked.

I cannot express enough how disappointed I am in the interaction with the owner. Yoga is supposed to be welcoming and inclusive, and Candice did not embody any of the principles that l've come to love and expect from the yoga community. I left more anxious and angry than I’ve felt all weekend.

Edited to add a response to the owner below:
My apologies for misunderstanding the communication concerning you stating you were a successful owner vs that you’ve been successful with policies.

I did not disrupt the class, nor did you spend an hour of your time communicating with me. Yes, I did leave the class early, and I did step out once— both were done respectfully and quietly to not disrupt the class. I also asked if I felt uncomfortable if I could leave before I entered the class. I acknowledge that both exits take place in my original review. It was no different from someone stepping out to use the restroom. Or taking a break on their mat.

I did not exhibit poor behavior, nor did I disrupt the peace of other students. I did not ask for rules to be bent, just to be clarified. I cannot imagine I am the first student to ask questions. The tone of your reply only confirms our original interaction.

It's a very welcoming studio. I love the infrared heaters on the ceiling to get us nice and warmed up for class. The instructors are solid, members seem nice and the studio is spotless.

Yoga Centric is lovely studio and everyone is very pleasant. I've attended 2 workshops and enjoyed them both. YC seems to be the only studio around that offers workshops, other than sound baths, in addition to daily classes.

I signed up with their $30 for 30 days Promotion and I have thoroughly enjoyed the classes I’ve taken. The instructors are friendly and the facility is very clean. I wish there were a few more classes that weren’t the warm or hot yoga style.

Signed up for a hot yoga class while on vacation in Ocean City and quickly fell in love with this AMAZING yoga studio! Their classes are definitely super hot and more pilates-focused, but the cool lavender towels at the end made it all worth it. Obsessed!

Emma is by far the best yoga instructor I’ve ever had! I am just a beginner but I’ll definitely be back for more. She provided easy to follow instructions and did a demo for the more challenging poses. The hot yoga is the most humbling workout I’ve ever done. I highly recommend you try a yoga class with Emma.

Lovely experience. Very friendly welcome and introduction with instructions as it was my first time to the studio, made me feel comfortable. The class flow was very well put together, cues were specific, clear warm-up and work/flow with plenty of time to cool down and rest in Savasana. It was just the right level of challenge and ease! I would definitely recommend to anyone looking to get their flow on while at the beach! I will be back next time I'm in town. So glad this is an option at the beach!

Finally a well equipped, inviting, and satisfying yoga studio to practice at in Ocean City! Being a block from the beach YCOC provides everything I need to take class. I can rinse my feet off in the shower, borrow their mats and props, and sweat out the sun with a heated flow. All of the classes I've taken so far have been taught by friendly and informative instructors. Any time I am in OC I will make a visit to Yoga Centric at the Beach!

I have taken a couple of classes so far and purchased a membership. The Sunday hot yoga is amazing and then they open the garage door at the very end and it gets even better when the cool air washes over you. So much attention to detail at the studio, it’s lovely and welcoming!

I recently went to a yoga class at Yoga Centric at the Beach which is located on 142nd street Bayside in Ocean City, MD and I couldn’t be more impressed! From the moment I walked in, I felt welcomed and relaxed. This class was perfect for all levels and Candice, the yoga instructor and owner is absolutely amazing!

They also offer yoga on the beach during the summers which I have tried and loved. I’m super excited to see this studio grow and thrive. Highly recommend checking it out if you’re in the area!
