We continue to be SO impressed with this dojo! Sensei Chip & Sensei Andrew are incredibly patient and kind with all the students, while also being firm and direct. I appreciate that they not only teach kids karate, but also valuable life skills (e.g. introducing oneself, importance of eye contact, respect for others, self-control, perseverance, etc.) that help encourage students to become the best they can be. I can’t say enough about this studio. We weren’t sure if karate would be right for our kids but decide to give this a try anyway. We were worried our kids wouldn’t behave, follow along, focus etc. my daughter specifically struggles with focus and attention. Well let me tell you, I have never seen her more focused than when she’s in karate class. She has become so much more disciplined and her attention span has increased so much. In just about 10 months we’ve seen a huge change. My son also loves the junior class. Both kids get so excited each time they’re eligible for a new belt color. And not only is this program great for helping kids with attention, focus, discipline and following directions, but it’s so fun! They have a blast every week. The studio is so meticulously maintained and so incredibly well run. I am continuously more and more impressed each month we attend training classes. This studio is the best of the best. Sensei Chip, Andrew and all the junior teachers are so dedicated to their students and they truly love what they do and care about these kids. Authentic Karate has been such a gift to my 5 year old daughter. Authentic karate was been amazing for my son. He has been going here for 3 years now and it has done so much for his confidence, discipline and strength. I cannot say enough wonderful things about Authentic Karate Training Center! My son joined this dojo when he was only four years old and has been a part of this dojo for almost five years now. We researched several dojos in the area and decided on the Authentic Karate Training Center because it is just that – authentic! Sensei Chip, Mr. Andrew and Mr. Nolan are top notch instructors. Authentic Karate Training Center, facing the Kennedy Soccer Fields in West Peabody is a gem we discovered early this year. The place is very welcoming, clean, bright and so organized. The kids loved it at once. The teachers are the best. They are kind, patient and always go the extra mile to help with mastering a karate move, bolstering their confidence, emphasizing the value of hard work, perseverance and discipline. Authentic Karate Training Center has been the best thing for our teenage son. Sensei Chip is truly dedicated to the overall success of his students. At the dojo they take a wholistic approach to the person and create a safe community that builds character and confidence. This is much needed for our teens who lack true, in-person experiences and connection. Our family noticed a quick difference for our son in his demeanor and motivation. He thoroughly enjoys the challenge and support he receives from Chip and Andrew. He would probably live at the dojo if he could. One thing this dojo does differently is integrate different ages and levels to help pull up the new learners. It truly feels like an authentic place without gimmicks or a rush to change belt colors. There is no other place like Authentic Karate! Sensei Chip and Mr. Andrew are outstanding leaders and role models for children. I first enrolled my son when he was 5 years old and his little sister started at 3 years old after watching him for several months. My kids look forward to karate and look up to Sensei Chip and Mr. Andrew. I don't think you could find any dojo like this one! I love seeing my kids grow mentally, socially, and emotionally through karate. I also love that young adults/teens are involved in teaching the younger kids classes. My son started his karate journey in 2021 to see if this was something he may be interested in for him and for us to see if it could help his self esteem, and to feel more confident. In the almost two years he has been there, he has shown such progress that I couldn’t imagine it would have happened without the teachers and community at the dojo! He challenged himself recently in a tournament they held and he really proved to himself, and to us that he is brave, resilient, courageous, and willing to tackle challenges even if they seem to others to be too much! So proud of all he has accomplished with the dojo community’s help and looking forward to see how much more he will grow.

We had checked out a couple other places before landing at AKTC and please believe not all places are similar. Here, you can watch your child during each class. The teachers take a genuine interest in each child yet make sure they are progressing. They make sure that the time spent during each class is about furthering, perfecting and understanding each move while still keeping in mind the ages of the children and somehow managing to keep their focus, and structure yet not in an overbearing militant way. There are many karate places close to where we live but AKTC is worth the travel/traffic!

My family loves this place. My kids(7 & 6) have learned so much. By that I mean. self-reliance, calmness, confidence, as well as martial art skill(and when to use it...defense only). Maya(7y/o) has gained so much confidence and self discipline that she is confident that she can handle anything that comes her way, be an example and leader in class, and Connor(6 y/o) is able to do things i never thought a 6 year old could do(be a leader, break boards, lead by example and be happy to do it((as well as help the newer students)), be the youngest ever to elevated to his class and rank). The confidence boost and knowledge gained are what my wife and i had hoped for when we entered them into Authentic Karate. What they and we got was so much more. I can’t say enough good things about Chip and his team at Authentic Karate. My 5 year old has been taking karate there for over a year now and it has been a wonderful experience for him. Chip and the other instructors are very kind and dedicated and have a wonderful holistic approach that teaches not only the athletic skills of karate but also about self-control, concentration, responsibility, kindness, and respect for themselves and others. His focus for the younger kids is on them learning to do their personal best, rather than being competitive or comparing themselves to others. The classes have been wonderful for my son’s coordination and he has a great time at every class! The kids “earn” new belts after a certain number of classes in which they have tried their best (hence the emphasis on “earning” the belt rather than simply “receiving” it) and Chip does a great job to recognize the kids’ efforts and they feel proud of themselves when they move up. This is our second karate dojo. The first one my son absolutely refused to go to, there would be a lot of crying and convincing. I was hesitant in trying another dojo thinking the experience would be similar and did not want to put my self or my son through that again. I am happy so say that our experience at the Authentic Karate has been very pleasant! After a few visits I noticed that my son isn’t fighting me to go to classes and seems to be enjoying it there. My 5 year old is 6 months into his Karate experience. We’ve noticed huge positive differences in his behavior and body control. Even at 5 years old, his attitude and listening capabilities have grown substantially. I’ve seen home videos of other dojo’s where it seems to be more of a playground than a professional karate dojo; the instructors working here instill the necessary obedience in the most professional manner I’ve seen. Covid stinks, and we needed something for our young one who was 5 when he started. Authentic Karate has been a godsend. Going to the Authentic Karate Dojo is one of our favorite parts of the week. We absolutely LOVE the calm and powerful atmosphere. As someone who had studied karate for over 16 years, I wanted to find a school that provided the same core values and spirit that I grew up with. Karate training greatly influenced my life in terms of self-confidence, healthy mind and body, and molded the person I am today. I wanted to find a school that embodied the same principles, and luckily I found Sensei Quimby and Authentic Karate Training Center.

I appreciated the Sensei’s honesty when he thought my son might be too young to start when we brought him in for a private 1 on 1. He was 4 and easily distracted; he would have been more disruptive to the other kids probably. So we waited a year until he was ready. I’m sure there are some schools that would have just taken my money.

It is not a “black belt factory” (places that promise a black belt in X time while nickel and diming you for every belt/strip/promotion). No egos. Promotions and advancements are earned by hard work and doing your best, not guaranteed because you paid for it.

The Sensei is great with kids and able to get 5 years old to listen and stay attentive. Not an easy fete. I see a difference in my son. Ideas and lessons taught in class carry over to school and home life as well. This was exactly what I was looking for.

Please do your research on signs of a good/bad martial arts school, and find one that embodies your values and what you want to instill in your child. Just look at the Sensei and ask yourself if the way they carry themselves and treat others is something you want your child to emulate; because they will.

I signed my granddaughter up almost 4 months ago to broaden her view of available athletic activities. This is a world class traditional karate training center and we feel lucky to have found Sensei Quimby and his assistants. He is not only a world class karate instructor but also a teacher and a role model with impressive personal integrity and discipline. He has an amazing ability to adjust not only the level of karate techniques he’s teaching to various age groups but even his personality changes depending on the age group. His deep knowledge of sports physiology will regularly show itself as he teaches but never to overwhelm his students but rather to introduce new terminology as he builds on previously mentioned concepts. Before our son was even old enough to begin his karate training, my husband Matthew and I already knew we wanted to send him to Authentic Karate Training Center to train with Sensei Quimby and Miss Kimberlie. Our nephew, now almost 9 years old, had been training with them since just before he turned 5 years old. So we already felt part of the AKTC family and community! After a few 1:1 sessions with Miss Kimberlie to be sure he was ready, our son started at the Dojo just about 1 year ago and we have not been disappointed! As my sister said in her post a couple years ago, we knew we had found the right place, not only for our son, but for our entire family. As parents, when our children are ages 3-4, we want to them to not only have fun and find something they love and feel good about, but also to begin to learn to have respect, a good attitude, good sportsmanship etc. Sensei Quimby and Miss Kimberlie have found a way to accomplish all of that. Both my daughters are enrolled in this dojo. My 8-yr-old has recently been invited to earn her yellow belt through the Karate Kids program and my 5-yr-old has recently earned her yellow belt through the Juniors program. Both girls just LOVE going to karate!!! We began at this dojo in the spring of 2017, because we wanted our daughters to build self-confidence and strategies to cope with the stresses of life. In a short two months at the dojo, they had already picked up several strategies in a positive and supportive environment. Since then, they continue to thrive and grow at Karate and at school. The teachers at this dojo are several cuts above the average. In fact, I've never worked with better teachers, and I am in my fourteenth year teaching full time in a public school. Miss Kimberlie has a gentle yet firm way with even the three year olds, and is full of funny surprises to keep it light and to keep the kids eager for more. Sensei is kind, funny and intense in such a way that the kids look forward to working hard for him, and stand up a little taller when he enters the room. Both teachers work hard every class to earn the respect each student gives them.

The dojo teaches necessary skills through games, so the students eat it up and think it's super fun, yet each lesson is packed with two or three important things which are the focus. Their curriculum is up on the wall for all to read, as well as the belts, which help to inspire the students. Their focus is to improve who each student is at his/her core, and each week there are challenges to remind the students that whether they win or lose at a game, the goal is to do their BEST and use STRONG THOUGHTS to guide them. There are few Places that I would recommend for anyone to learn karate, but this is one of them. If I lived in the area I would seriously consider taking classes here. Chip Quimbly and his protege Kimberly Fosberg have created an amazing karate experience. Not only is the dojo beautiful, but they know their stuff! They teach a style of karate called Uechi-Ryu which is an ancient art that comes from Okinawa Japan. I can't say enough about authentic karate. My daughter has been going here for almost a year and at first was very shy and cried during her one on one lessons with sensi Quimby but he made her feel safe and comfortable and she is now working towards her orange belt. I wish that everyone could see these kids during class, after class, and on Belt Test days. They have something which is becoming more and more rare: When they receive praise and accolades, they are not just empty words- it's because they worked hard and earned it. This means so much more to them, and is one of the most valuable lessons learnt at the Dojo.
Our family, especially our young karateka, loves Sensei. He truly cares about each of his students, and inspires and encourages them to be their best. Authentic Karate is perfectly named. There is an authenticity that permeates in this dojo. The true virtues of karate are taught and well-exemplified at every class. The sinsei, Chip, has set the standard for what it means to truly follow the 'way of karate.' Kicking, punching, and blocking are all obviously taught at an elite level, but the larger, and truly more important elements of honesty, integrity, endurance, encouragement and preserverance are strongly upheld. I've been practicing martial arts for more than twenty years and had different instructors in different schools. Sensei Quimby and the training methods he uses are by far the best and the only ones that will get me off the couch on a cold winter's night after working all day to go out and practice. WIth a good mix of traditional karate methods and present day cross-training exercises, my skills as a third degree black belt have grown tremendously. I've also watched new students make huge gains with their beginning skills and become more confident in their daily practice. There really aren't enough kind words to say about Sensei Quimby. My son has been attending AKTC since it first opened. I credit Sensei not only for the strides my son has made in karate, but also for the many skills and character traits developed under his instruction. I have seen a marked difference in his attitude, balance, confidence, determination, and so much more (i could find something for every letter of the alphabet). And to see how it transfers over beyond the dojo into the way my son carries himself at school and other activities is impressive to say the least. Sensei Chip Quimby is not only a skilled martial artist but an amazing teacher and mentor. The life lessons he incorporates in each class have really made a positive impact in my children's lives. My 8 year old twins have been attending classes at Authentic Karate Training Center for almost a year. They look forward each week to attending class. Sensei Quimby is an amazingly talented man. The classes are never stale. They are taught with great patience, respect, knowledge, effort, and a sense of humor that is able to keep a child (and their parent sitting watching class) interested and engaged. I think it is a rare gift to have someone who is technically proficient and able to teach his art to children in both a clear and engaging manner, but we have both with Sensei Quimby. My 8 year old has been part of the dojo for the last 30+ months and has grown in many ways, including physically, mentally and emotionally.
