I attended a charity class at Backyard Boston taught by Lauren back in late August and I instantly knew I wanted to be part of this community. In the 2 months I’ve been there, I’ve grown so much and learned so much about form and the functionality of strength training. I also love that everyone there helps each other and I think there’s a healthy dose of yap and laughing during each class. So glad I found this amazing community!

Was encouraged by my roommate to show up and despite being scared of the heavyweights and conditioning, it turned out to be rewarding and dare I say….fun. My first class was with lit2lift and one of the most hype/fun introductions to a gym in a while! I’ve taken many of the other coaches since (all great, LK is also a fav) andand am somewhat of addicted to the backyard now. Everybody (including the gym-goers) are so welcoming and encouraging, pushing you to lift stronger and try new things. A great fitness community if you’re looking for one!!

I started going to Backyard Boston when I began a new job nearby, right around the time they opened in Fort Point, and it has been the perfect fit for my marathon training.
The instructors are incredibly knowledgeable and attentive. They are great at pointing out adjustments that make movements more effective, which has been invaluable for someone like me who is getting back into it after more than a few years away from it all. I have not taken a single class where I did not love the programming. They are always challenging in the best way.
Between the classes, the Saturday run club, the immaculate vibes, the supportive community, and the top notch coaching, Backyard is truly one of a kind!

My first experience at Backyard Boston was great:
Front desk staff were welcoming and friendly as soon as we arrived and the whole time we were there.
The space is GREAT, it is laid out well, there’s plenty of room for the number of class attendees, and the decor has the immediate vibe that “you are here to work out, have fun, and be a part of community”.
Amenities were solid and facilities were very clean.

The class:
I was a little intimidated about all the stations but the instructors were SO great at doing a demonstrations at the start of class, there are signs at each station with a reminder of exercises and reps to do, and the the instructors were attentive throughout (they were never far from your station and you just had to give a small gesture and they were there to help you, but also if they notice you could make an adjustment to make the workout more effective/avoid any potential injury they will come to you without you needing to ask).

Also I the music, with good music I can finish any rep.

I've trained with the owners since before started Backyard - and they are just as enthusiastic, competent, and skilled as the day I met them. Every trainer they hire follows their credo while providing their own flavor. Whether you're new or a vet - they're great at providing form modifications/improvements, encouraging you to increase your load, or meeting you where you're at and just happy you showed up :) I've tried what feels like all of the gyms in Boston, and I joined Backyard because it's a safe place to lift, competent trainers, and I can feel myself getting stronger. The new facility is awesome. Newly built in Seaport area with amazing sunlight. Right on the water has a run/strength room, open gym room, strength and conditioning room. Finally, a class that trains for strength! Kara does a great job of combining multi-planar movements into an intense class. You use barbells, cables, and kettlebells to help improve your strength and endurance. Unlike traditional HITT classes, this class encourages heavier weightlifting in a mini circuit design.

As a runner, Backyard is hands-down my favorite gym! The facility and equipment go far beyond what a typical gym offers — everything is truly top-class. I love using it for open gym but their running-specific classes are excellent as well + they have incredible physical therapists who have helped me recover from injuries. I also enjoy the weekend run club and the chance to connect with other runners in the community. The new location is absolutely stunning, and now that they’ve added a cold plunge and sauna, I can see myself spending even more time there. Highly recommend Backyard to any endurance athlete — it has everything you need!

If you are looking for a fitness class that will get you stronger, increase energy, and a sense of community, look no further. I have been working out with this group for the last 3 years and having done multiple different style of HIIT classes, different gyms across Boston, and different personal trainers, this is different. I am in the best shape of my life at 33 years old. No one (trainers and other members) here make you feel embarrassed about where you are in your fitness journey. From day 1, I felt included as part of the community. Whether you are looking for one day a week supplement to what you do or looking for a whole new workout routine, i guarantee you will get what you are looking for here! I usually attend early morning classes for routine but if I miss I know I can go to any of the trainers here for an amazing class. They also have worked with me to go live and virtual sessions for my work team (for team builders). Live by their motto, and just show up. You won’t regret it!

I've been going to Backyahd Boston for 1 year now. I use weight training to support my running goals and to become functionaly stronger. I've PR'd the mile, 10K, half, and full marathon as a result of the functional fitness I have gained from Backyahd. This is not a packed room of people sharing weights. This is an appropriately sized fitness class that gives everyone the proper attention from the instructor to build confidence in every exercise in every class. I can’t say enough good things about Backyahd Boston. The trainers and staff are welcoming and so so knowledgeable, and the community truly feels like home. In every group fitness class I’ve taken here, the exercises are intentional and, despite taking class in a group setting, you’ll get the hands on individualized attention needed to get through the workout strong and safe. I love the variety offered between Strength, Strength & Conditioning, Strength & Mobility, and even yoga! They also provide muscle group focused classes, making it easy to schedule your weeks of strength and ensure to cover all muscle groups. Backyahd has helped me build strength alongside run training, and was an integral part of my training for both a half and full marathon in 2022. Modifications are always offered in classes so it is beginner friendly. I’ve never left feeling anything but amazing after class, and am so grateful for the backyahd that they’ve created for us.
