Highly recommended gym/facility with excellent open space, uplifting atmosphere, friendly, knowledgeable and professional trainers! Definitely not your typical gym..and just better all around. Boston Barbell is welcoming, meets all my expectations for fitness. I couldn’t be happier with the progress made so far. Training is very personalized and on point..had opportunities to train with both Chris and John. Both excellent in their position in helping to meet my health and fitness goals..getting me stronger and toner with each session. So much is available, looking forward to starting small group sessions soon. Best place to be a part of especially if health and fitness matters.

Boston Barbell is an awesome place to train! I was referred to it by a friend who was doing strength training to relieve back pain (the same thing I needed!). I was surprised by the level of diversity in the clientele & staff and also by the extent to which it is such a supportive & encouraging environment. It is super clean & loaded with all types of equipment. Most importantly, though are the trainers who are so knowledgeable, friendly & awesome at what they do. I am getting stronger by the day & subsequently have had no back pain since the day I started!!

I've been regularly going to Boston Barbell for 8 months now, which is the longest relationship with a gym I've ever had. What started as a casual interest in learning to strength train as an aging millennial has become some of my most looked-forward-to hours of the week.
I've had such a phenomenal experience with all the coaches, from Victoria who welcomed me in and gave me great 1:1 training, to Ashlyn who deftly kicks my butt several times a week and delivers great results, to John and Chris who provide a seamless combo of expert coaching and entertaining anecdotes.
I've also found the community to be an enormous component of the experience here. I didn't expect coming in to be doing much beyond lifting, but the laughs, the encouragement, and the bonding that comes from being in the gym together has been an amazing boon to my fitness commitment. While I don't yet have any dreams of being a competitive power lifter like some of the wildly impressive people at the gym, I've been massively supported in my own goals and abilities, and I've progressed more than I ever expected. Plus how cool is it to have someone who lifts 300 pounds turn around and enthusiastically cheer on someone who's lifting 40? Go to this gym, you won't regret it.

I’ve been going to Boston Barbell for two months, and it’s been a fantastic experience! I joined because I wanted accountability to stay consistent with my workouts, and this gym has everything I needed: 24/7 access, showers, top-notch equipment, and a strong powerlifting community that keeps the energy and discipline high.

Boston Barbell is the best!. When I started the Men's functional classes I only planned to do it for 1 month, but this month I just finished a full year here. The coaches are very knowledgeable and I've learned a ton about strength training from them since I started. This is the most consistent I've been with going to the gym ever and I don't think I could ever go back to a commercial gym.

I've been a member at this gym for a while now, and I can confidently say it deserves every one of these 5 stars! The coaches are absolutely top-notch—each one is knowledgeable, responsive, and incredibly easy to get along with. They strike the perfect balance of being supportive without any pressure, making every workout a truly enjoyable experience.
Coach John, in particular, stands out with his dedication. He's always just a text away, ready to offer guidance at nearly any hour of the day. The in-person experience is just as exceptional; the coaches are eager to provide tips and technique corrections, and they do so in a way that never makes you feel awkward or inadequate.
The atmosphere in the gym is fantastic. It's a friendly, welcoming environment where everyone—from the staff to the fellow gym-goers—is quiet, supportive, and genuinely nice. It's the perfect place to push yourself and grow, surrounded by people who uplift each other.

Ana is amazing! She really takes her time to recognize and listen to your pain points and works with you during the massage to work out those areas. She uses very firm, deep presssure which is very effective at getting knots out and is very knowledgable of the body's anatomy, so is very specific and detailed with her approach. She also incorporates cupping into her treatment which I have found very beneficial in combination with the massage. If you are looking for a solid deep tissue, sports massage, hit up Ana!!

Exceptional Training Experience with Victoria at Boston Barbell!
My husband and I started training with Victoria at Boston Barbell in March, and from the very beginning, she stood out as a skilled and knowledgeable trainer. By the end of May, I found out I was expecting and was initially concerned about continuing my workouts during pregnancy. However, Victoria put my worries to rest.
Her expertise in prenatal fitness was evident from the start. She carefully tailored my workouts to suit my pregnancy needs, ensuring both safety and effectiveness. Her guidance and encouragement allowed me to stay active and feel confident in my fitness journey up until the start of my 8th month.
Victoria’s supportive and professional approach has made a huge difference for me during this special time, and I’m looking forward to resuming our sessions after my postpartum recovery. I highly recommend her to anyone seeking a trainer who truly cares and understands individual needs.

I have been attending group functional training sessions at Boston Barbell since July and so happy I found them. Not only is it a 24 hour gym for members but the gym is so CLEAN, tons of equipment and an aesthetically pleasing design might I add! They offer 1:1 training, and both women’s and co-op functional training group sessions at numerous times throughout the day, several days a week. John, Chris, Ashlyn and Victoria are the BEST. Ana at Boston Bell excels at deep tissue massages. I spent years looking for a massage therapist that would actually work with me to resolve painful areas rather than just going through their typical "routine". Over the last two years with Ana, I can say I've regain full motion of my shoulder as well as much much much less pain in my lower back, upper back, shoulders and neck. I highly recommend Ana, you won't be disappointed!

I showed up to BB on a weekday evening to check the place out. The gym was full of lively young men and women, and it was noisy with the clanking of iron and hootin’ and hollerin’. I watched awhile. This beautiful powerful woman stepped under an enormous barbell up on a rack, hoisted it on her shoulders, and then did a deep squat! I was so proud of her - I practically cried. These people were NOT me though – I was 66-years old woman recovering from a bad leg injury, and I was wondering if I would ever walk normally again. I signed up for personal training two days a week and that was two years ago. I first worked with Meghan and then Chris. The training is excellent – I got the mobility and strength I was looking for and I never injured myself – a risk at my age in less skilled hands. I have also worked with other BB trainers from time to time, and they have all been excellent. The atmosphere is inspiring and supportive where every you are in your journey, from a rickety retiree to a power-lifting champion.

Joining Boston Barbell has been one of the best decisions I've ever made. It's not just a gym; It's a community of people from all walks of life dedicated to getting strong and motivating each other under the guidance of top tier coaches.
Don't be fooled by the name. This isn't a gym filled with rude, intimidating meatheads. The more experienced lifters are extremely friendly, approachable, and motivating. There's nothing like people screaming, "UP!!", when you're attempting to lift the most weight you ever have in your life. And you WILL lift more weight than you ever have.
What other gym can you go to and learn powerlifting from a state champ? I walked into BB not knowing the first thing about how to properly lift anything and Ashlyn "Smash" Buckley has whipped me into shape in three short months, reaching levels I didn't think possible; and we're just getting started.

Strength isn’t just for power lifters, at Boston Barbell I’m a part of a community of strength, resilience and care. After meeting Chris Martin and joining Boston Barbell, my son came to me and said “mom you have to try it.” At 50, living with multiple sclerosis, I didn’t imagine that a weight lifting experience would be for me. I listened to my son and gave it a try and I am so glad I did. Yes I am getting stronger and more fit, but I also have discovered a community of people who value health and fitness and genuinely care and support everyone, regardless of how heavy you lift. I found BB one day while scrolling through IG and was really intrigued by how evident it was that the coaches really know their stuff (and the creatively funny posts too). I had occasionally messaged with head coach Chris on IG for a couple months before joining and he was always happy to share advice with me. Now I’ve been a member for over a year and I am absolutely so happy I joined. The facility is so clean, amazing equipment, and really has a “community-type feel” amongst it’s members and coaches.
John is my coach and I am sponge to his knowledge. We’ve worked through the limited mobility I had with my shoulders and hips, and his expertise is invaluable. John is authentically himself which I appreciate as I always know I'll receive honest feedback. John really listens to my goals and coaches me to reaching them.
During lifts where I am not meeting with John, there is usually another coach available on the floor who are always quick to help with a spot or any questions I might have.
I could continue to boast, but point made.. just go check it out for yourself. 🙌🏼

I started at Boston Barbell after 3 kids and at the heaviest I’ve ever been, and in pretty rough shape. I avoided exercise and weightlifting for years despite knowing how beneficial it is for me. This is mostly due to a very severe anxiety about what somebody who goes to the gym *should* look like, and feeling like I didn’t belong in that space. Trainer Sarah completely turned that around for me. Her kindness and confidence was so welcoming for me, and as silly as it sounds, made me feel safe in a space that I was previously too anxious to be in. She works with me in any modification needed and I’m constantly surprised by my progress. My experience at Boston barbell has been nothing but good. I’ve been working out since 2020 and have been to a lot of gyms in my area. A lot of gyms have nice facilities and nice equipment but I felt they lacked something. That something was community. Boston barbell has an amazing, clean facility, along with great equipment to work with. What separates it from other gyms is the community and the people that work there. When I went the the gym I was met with nothing but smiles and encouragement which made it a very comfortable environment to workout in. When you sign up at the gym you get the membership to the gym which comes with 24/7 access and a workout plan personally Tailored to you and your goals. My experience with my trainer Brian Elderd has been top notch so far. Brian is very knowledgeable and knows how to explain things in a way that I understand so I can get the most out of any exercise. He is very patient and will answer all the questions you have to make sure everything is done properly. I would recommend anyone with the goal of getting in shape to come here whether or not you’ve been lifting for 10 years or never stepped foot in a gym everyone has a place here.

I joined Boston Barbell about 2 months ago after my previous gym closed down for a remodel. I look forward to my AM classes, as it fits nicely with my work schedule. I’ve joined Boston Barbell for ~5 months now and it really has been a sanctuary for me to improve my strength, discipline, and confidence. My coach John is always responsive to my questions and consistently gives practical feedback about my form. Overall Boston Barbell is a great place to train whether you’re an athlete, power lifter, or just someone wanting to look better. The staff are always friendly and helpful. There is a wide range of equipment to satisfy most gym routines. The trainer I had was James and he was extremely helpful with programming and helping me achieve my goals in the gym. James’ knowledge on power lifting and athletic lifting not only made me a better athlete but increased my wherewithal in the gym. The only negative I have for Boston Barbell is that at times with its limited space it can get very busy; however, that’s a problem a lot of gyms have. Overall, Boston Barbell is a high quality gym that has great staff and it’s worth the price, which something you can’t say for many other gyms.

Very customer centric/focused. John was super informative and welcoming even though I was from out of town and needed a solid workout while in the area. He and his team were so welcoming and accommodating.
The facility is tight but has what you need for a terrific workout. The organization isn’t necessarily an open gym rather it’s focused group coaching at various times of the day for different goals/programs however the facility is open to members 24-hours to do solo workouts outside of the group coaching. While there is no day or weekly pass, John worked with me to ensure I could get a workout in while traveling. I’m grateful for that. Brooke has been coaching me for nearly six months. She programmed powerlifting prep for me, handled me at my first powerlifting meet, and is working with me in my off season. I was able to go 8/9 at my meet because of her strategy. She is very compassionate but will give tough love when needed, makes herself available, listens to any issues and comes up with a timely resolution. She has helped me build all of my lifts through big, personal milestones. She has her message room upstairs and offers cupping, scraping, manual therapy, and stretching/mobility work. Book a massage with Meghan Beatty! Meghan provides an individualized orthopedic massage experience tailored to you. She has been treating me for a chronic pain issue with massage and cupping for over two years now. I have seen such a difference in the way I feel. Head Coach Cmar’s custom powerlifting programming is incredibly successful, and he has brought many lifters from beginners to nationals. I love Boston barbell! I drove 45 minutes a few times a week to get there!! Everyone in that gym is so welcoming. Chris is a trusted personal trainer in the Boston area. Under his instruction, I have corrected my form and am now able to move through a full range of motion in my knees. It’s wonderful. I can squat, deadlift, and hip thrust pain free!!!
In addition, I worked with Dean. His skill and knowledge level are far beyond his years. He takes his time to explain movements and set up!! I was immediately impressed when he showed me how to properly plank for the Navy PT test. I can now hold my plank for almost 3 min! Wow.

What I'd like to stress particularly is: 1) Chris' genuine attention to cues in the client's performance and feedback through active, probing dialog in session; and 2) His thoughtful and well-informed anatomical and functional analysis. Bottom line, he's thinking all the time about how best to adapt or design a program for you. Sometimes the adjustments are subtle; but then sometimes he'll change things up completely - and without fail to good effect. I'm speaking here as an older client - mid-60's - with numerous injuries and recent major ortho surgery and more to come soon. Whether for strength, rehab, or prehab - Boston Barbell will provide you top flight guidance and coaching from caring people in a great space. Your best choice if you're serious about your fitness.

A truly great gym is hard to find. A world class trainer? Even more difficult. Enter Boston Barbell. One look inside and you already know this is perhaps one of the most focused and well equipped rooms on the eastern seaboard.
However, it’s the founder and mastermind, Chris “Cmar” Martin that makes this place a palace of pump; a monument to mass; a gravy train of gains.
In a word: MINDFUL. Every client is analyzed and provided a program specific to not only their Goals, but also their inherent biomechanics. I have long legs and a short torso, and he made changes to my programming based on subtle differences in how to get the best leverage on certain lifts.
You simply WILL NOT find a better person than Chris to guide you, whether it is your first day in a gym or your thousandth.
Being a source of inspiration for people is nothing new to Chris. Having known him since childhood, this man, seemingly made entirely of effort and gumption, will change the world, one set of glutes at a time. To be a member here is to be one lucky SOB.
