I miss Boston Sports Club. It was honestly the best gym. (The pandemic closed down the Woburn location) The staff was always attentive and the gym had accommodations for almost every fitness routine. Spin classes, swimming, equipment, hot tub etc.

Club is unprofessional. Tried to rip off on membership cancellation. They charge the card inspite of sending written confirmation that membership is canceled and no fees is due. They provided no good mechanism to contact for COVID cancellation. I had to replace my credit card to avoid them charging again. The General manager Tom is unprofessional, rude in communication and does not care for customers. I have spent thousands of dollars at this club and do not plan to provide anymore business unless such managers are replaced.

Their cancellation policy is really bad. You cannot cancel your membership by online or phone. You can only cancel in-person or by letter in the year of 2020! They will keep charging you for 45 more days after the cancellation. They also charged me annual fee for the upcoming year.

Such a disappointment. Cancellation policy is very hard. So after the COVID situation, I stopped going to the gym from March and they were still charging my account. There was nothing in their website to cancel membership and so I sent them an email and no reply. Then later called them to cancel my membership and the reply was βcome in person or send a letterβ. And the person was so rude. He said no refunds and they also charged annual fee for the upcoming year and saying no refund for that too. With this pandemic, these people are also creating troubles in our lives. Not professional and they are very very rude in answering.

Beware of predatory membership policies! They make cancellation so difficult you have to take time off your busy day and sort it out. I was told I will be charged for September and part of October evern after they acknowledged receiving my cancellation request letter in August. There is a ridiculous 45 day cancellation notice period where they will continue charging after the request has been made! I have never heard of a "notice period" for gym membership cancellation! I thought Gold's Gym made cancellation hard, but this takes it to a new level.

I've now had multiple bad experiences with the manager, Thomas Bujold. The communication around billing during the pandemic was terrible, and anytime I called to have something explained to me, the manager was curt and rude. I see here several other people have had an issue with this guy, too.

I would give 0 stars if I could.
GREED, LIES, LACK OF INTEGRITY
I can't believe the parent company "Town Sports International Holdings, Inc" is actually a public company! While the subsidiary is running a fraudulent business. Such a big joke. They kept charging my account after I cancelled my membership, in person, in their facility office, with this lady named Sharon. After I found out that they were still charging me for several months I gave a call to Sharon and she nicely said she was not sure what happened and would give me a call back after some investigation. I got a call back in 30 min from her that she confirmed the system showed my cancellation however there was another record showed the cancellation had been withdrawn after a month by this guy called "Jake"! I said that never happened and I needed to talk with this "Jake" guy but Sharon said Jake was not with the organization anymore.
Then this whole thing escalated up to the General Manager Thomas Bujold who was unbelievably RUDE who told me that there's nothing he can do since he has no evidence in the system I had tried to cancel my membership!
LIARS LIARS LIARS!
After several rounds of argument, they finally sent me the cancellation receipt through email from this address [email protected]. By reading through the email there is NO WAY to tell this is from BSC Lexington! I suspect they set up the email this way so that in the next billing cycle if you get charged again you would have a hard time to even find out this receipt by searching keywords, or they may just deny this cancellation receipt was sent from their organization!
I called the number again to ask the front desk guy to send me a cancellation confirmation email with more details indicating this is from BSC Lexington, I heard the General Manager Thomas Bujold talking side by side in a ridicule tone saying "what? Is she asking for another receipt?"
I am disgusted by the way Thomas Bujold has treated the valued customers. There is NO customer service in this place. I'm sharing my experiences with my families, my friends and my neighbors so that they don't need to go through the same disgusting experiences as I did.
Lesson learned - When you want to cancel your membership with this gym, make sure you get the words written and confirmed in email with Thomas Bujold sending from his official email. Any other way to cancel the membership, they will "lose" the request.
I guess I'll have to wait until the Federal Class Action suit against BSC to get my money back for all these months!

This club makes it impossible to cancel. I canceled my account through phone, email, and in person and they still kept charging my account. Even through the pandemic, they still kept charging me. I called them and I spoke to the manager, Tom, and he was very rude and told me I lied and they have no record of me canceling. Stay away. This place runs a very suspicious business.

BSC Lexington mishandle this covid cancellation process. It was very shady of the manager, Tom, to refuse my refund for chargers from April (well after the quarantine), as well as charges in the month they reopened.
If they asked me to donate our last payment for the staff sake...I would have done that. But hiding behind some arbitrary time frames, etc...very shady! As long as that manager is there, definitely not bringing my business there.

I submitted a form on the BSC website back in April/May when I was charged by BSC after the gym was closed for an entire month during quarantine, asking to freeze my membership. Now, I noticed I've started being charged again. I called my local club to request that the charge be reversed, as I'm not ready to go to the gym yet, but was told by Thomas Bujold (manager?) that there's nothing he can do. He found that I received no notifications about the reopening because they had the wrong email address on file (but said that is not his problem), and he said it also isn't his problem that the online portal has sends no confirmation email/documentation of the contact attempt.
My mom, who also called, had a very similar experience except the person she spoke to apologized and reversed the charge, noting that BSC is trying to improve their practices. I was very hopeful that would be the case... guess not.
Thomas Bujold told me there's no one else I can speak to, since he has no manager because "he is lucky like that". He urged me to contact corporate about my experiences with him, no surprise- this is their business model.
I am disgusted by this company. Instead of being accommodating to customers during this difficult time, it seems they prefer to take advantage of customers. Beyond sleazy. They must be milking it bc theyβre going bankrupt bc theres no way any sensible person, forget company, thinks this treatment is good for long term success right

Amazing sports clubs, I attended here for a few day free trail and it was amazing. The gym/pool facilities were great and the treadmills etc were high tech and had a touch screen with internet access so you could do some research or watch YouTube etc while working out. The pool is fairly large and has a separate Jacuzzi. I have some photos so you can see what the area is like. I would highly recommend a visit.

Now I know why people complain about BSC. I used used the club for a while, It was fine,. But when I wanted to cancel I was told I had to do so ONLY in person or by registered letter. That is absurd. No way to treat customers. I strongly recommend going elsewhere.

This club is mediocre and is deteriorating. The locker room is dirty. The exercise machines are frequently broken, as are the showers, at least in the men's room. There is a pool, but it is often closed at peak hours for private (money making) parties. I would recommend looking elsewhere.

Not a terrible club, if you don't mind poor maintenance on the machines, occasional cold showers and freezing temperatures in the locker rooms. They also sometimes change the dues without notice that show up on your credit card. The worst is that if you ever want to cancel your membership you can't just call them - they require a certified letter and also continue to charge you for an additional 45 days for some reason. Beware!!

Good gym, although they truly need to remodel the area. Equipment occasionally breaks and jacuzzi is always being maintained. Itβs difficult to plan for when these things happen, and it tarnishes the workout experience. I wish they would send emails or something to inform us so we could go to other locations. The parking is probably one of the best aspects, as it is free and there is no time limit.

The general manager in this club is terrible. She has very bad altitude towards the customer. The way she acts is that she try to push away the customer. I discuss my over charged bill with her, she can't give me any reason but saying that club MAY increase my membership fees. How can you increase my membership without any notification? I call the club to freeze my account because I'm on a trip, but she refuse to accept it and saying that's no proof that I called the club. I even show her the phone call history on my cell phone. This GM is terrible, how can she be a GM with such poor customer service altitude? I think that BSC corp should check on her. She should not be a GM in BSC.

I have been using BSC for the last four to five years, at least. Unfortunately, I had been charged several times small/increasing/hidden fees without my consent through a different period.
The last and final one was related to a family member who came to summer in my town. Without my permission, her membership was tied to my account, and despite my phone calls, they kept incurring the debts even after she left.
I accepted the first charge as the cost was associated with a family member on vacation; however, the debits did not stop.
When I asked them if they could prove through my signature, email, or any other form my consent on tieing my account to this person (since the very first debt), they were blank, charged me US$ 10 for cancelation and refused to refund the second month of her subscription.
I ended up also canceling my subscrioption as I do not proud of being part of such narrow-minded companies which does not value its customers.
In the end, as the episode was not isolated, I can tell you to be aware as they will charge you as much they can without previous communication. The club has also been durty. I am moving to their competitor.

I used to be a member of the Lexington club until mid 2017. Two years after I cancelled my membership, the club started to charge my credit card. The first one is $5, and then $69.99 per month. I called the club and the front desk said the system showed I started membership in April this year. I haven't been to the place since my membership was ended, let alone of starting a new one. The front desk stated that he didn't have authorization to address the issue, but the GM would do, the latter is on the way to the club. He asked me to leave a message, and GM will call me back. I left a voice mail, but haven't hear back till now. It has been four days.
I also filled out the request on their website, and have received no response.

The gym stuff broken into my lockers and took all my mountaineering equipment that I stored in them. Then they told that they lost it. I was paying for lockers rent monthly, and gym did not contact me when breaking my locks and taking my stuff. The cost of the property that I lost is almost $7000. The Lexington police does not seem to do much considering it a civil case because they claimed they did it "by accident". I am sending legal notice to gym management and TSI (club's owners), and opening legal case if they are not compensate my loss within a month. I am seeking publicity for this case because even police considers it a civil case, I don't really feel safe now. If they broke to my lockers and took so much of my belongings, they can probably break into my home tomorrow and do anything. It is a very big corporation.

I liked working out here (despite it being expensive for what it is as a gym and always being crowded and full of people that seem to just be standing in the way all the time) until I moved across the country and had to cancel my membership. I cancelled in July 2018 and spoke to a woman over the phone (since I was already living away from the club) and asked to cancel. The woman said she would put a note in for the manager to cancel and would have the manager call me if there's any issues.
Three months passed and no call from the gym, so I assumed everything was ok (which I will admit is my own fault for assuming anything with a gym) and I checked my bank account to find out they had been charging me the entire time. I spoke to the manager today and he said that since I don't have a record of the conversation and I didn't remember the name of the person I spoke to (so in other words, since I don't record my conversations to ensure companies do what they actually say they'll do), he can't prove I tried to cancel and won't refund me the $150 I was charged for a membership I had already cancelled.
Long story short, the gym's not worth the monthly membership fee unless you're obsessed with swimming laps and can't find another place to do it and they'll rob you of additional months of membership fees when you try to cancel.
EDIT 09 October: Despite making it appear as though BSC was actually interested in my problem by having me contact their special email address, I received no response so it appears as though that's only a ploy to make it look like they care about customer concerns. There's plenty of other gyms in the area and this is one of the most expensive ones. Save yourself the money and the headaches of dealing with these goons.

Equipment is fine, never had a problem with cleanliness or staff but I've had muptiple serious billing issues with this gym.
When I first joined, I found out from a coworker also working out here that I was paying 10$ more per month for the exact same membership. When I went to talk to the staff, they were able to lower my rate. Apparently, they assured me they were giving me a corporate discount but this sort of arbitrary price adjustment really left a sour taste. I decided to keep my membership, and to their credit I did not have issues for a year.
According to my contract, they are allowed to raise rates at their discretion but are required to provide notice in writing or email. I happened to notice on my CC statement that they had raised my monthly rate, and I had not been informed. I even had proof they had my email address since they emailed me earlier about replacing a card that had expired. When I finally was able to track down a manager, they were quick to refund me, but when I asked how this happened or whether it would happen again, the only answers I got were that "the headquarters in NY raises the rates of our members and we have no knowledge or control over it".
No recompense for the fact that they broke their contract for me, just apologies. There were other minor issues that the manager was able to resolve for me but at some point I don't want to deal with billing headaches every few months, I'll just find a new gym.

The weights area is a little small for the number of people it gets. So it can be a bit challenging to work out during peak hours. Other than that, it's okay.
One other thing I noticed is that staff is not that helpful. The last time I visited, I noticed there were a few people waiting at the front desk for check-in/questions. While there were many staff members walking around and hanging out in the rooms behind the counter, there was just one member helping the customers and answering phones at the same time.

Yelp conveniently places most 1 and 2 Star review out of view in the category of "not recommended" at the bottom of the Yelp review page. If you want a real sense of how poorly this place is run, just look at the 38 reviews listed as not recommended - 30 of the 38 are 1 star. I left a review last week - see below. A corporate response promised swift action, yet today - 4 days later - the locker rooms are over 100 degrees, there was clearly no intention of fixing the issues noted below. Floor is slippery, a hip fracture waiting to happen. Kind of a joke that the corporate office has enough influence to push the common horrible reviews into a category that does not impact the overall star rating. OMG, buyer beware. Earlier review: I want to love or at least like this place but they continue to annoy me and other members with ridiculous system problems and really problematic physical plant issues. Every other month, the air conditioner craps out and the place becomes steamy and dangerous to work out in. Front office staff and management is never responsive, they just shrug their shoulders and say no manager is on or the thermostat is controlled by the Corporate Office remotely (so change the system so it is controlled locally, like with the thermostats they have locked up on the wall but are not allowed to unlock and touch). This week, the AC was down for 3 days. Steam was dripping off the ceiling onto the equipment and power outlets so they just put signs up shutting down the machines. Everything was wet and slippery. Over the past few months this has been a regular occurrence. Despite the highest monthly membership fees in the area by far ($79/month), they will not invest in any updates to the HVAC system. The local staff is not authorized to call a technician to fix the problem, so days go by until the corporate office (who never has to deal with drenching sweat or risk electrocution) finally approves another temporary fix. This winter, the heat went out and the gym was literally 40 degrees. Again, no investment in genuine repairs, just patches to preserve the corporations profit margins. There is never any offer to rebate a prorated portion of membership fees, even when the environment is disgusting or dangerous (again, see corporate profit priority). The reason they locked up the thermostats is that staff would turn the temp down when the system broke, trying to eek out a little more cooling. This would not work because the pipes were frozen and again, the system is not upgraded of functional with any reliability (that would be a permanent fix though costly). Nobody would allow these physical plant problems to continue in their own home, yet this site allows it to persist for years now.
When the heat or cooling is working, the gym is quite clean, with good access to machines and weights. The personal trainers are excellent. If they could just get their corporate heads out their a---, and permanently fix the physical plant, it would be a lovely, though again very expensive, option for a local gym.

Seriously disappointed. I cancelled my membership well in advance by providing written notice, yet they renewed my membership anyways and charged me a renewal fee, then a termination fee, and then some other unexplained fee, which amounted to a grand total of >$150 when I finally got my membership cancelled. Calls/emails to Sean Paul, the membership advisor, -and to Beth, the club manager, were not returned. Shady business practices. I don't recommend this club to anyone. Stay away

The tennis lessons are great, and the teachers very helpful. The class sizes are small and very nice.

HORRIBLE club. Overused, old broken down equipment. Ridilulously overpriced!! Club often rents out courts and desk people don't know so you get there and cannot use courts. Would like to give them zero, but it's not allowed.

Great variation of equipment, super friendly staff that learns your name, they offer free towels/lotion/shampoo/soap/hand sanitizer/sanitizing wipes to clean the machines after you, good temperature in the building, locker rooms are clean and great classes! The gym is like a second home for me and I am very happy with this one.

I cancelled my member ship, and 3 months later I noticed several charges on my credit card from BSC. I called for a refund and was told they only put a 3 month hold on my account. I received a partial refund and was told I was all set and my account was actually canceled. 1 month later, MORE charges on my credit card. Called the SAME manager who remembered giving me the refund and "canceling" my account but said it looked like someone had only put in for a 1 month hold instead of canceling my account. She thanked me for "catching the charge" and gave me a full refund.

The worst gym experience ever. The prices are so high and the service is so bad. The personal trainers keep pushing you into taking private lessons and paying more money. James and Beth are managing the place. They are rude, unfriendly and do not care if you have any personal issues. They just want you to pay money whether you come to the gym or not. I had to freeze my membership for a while so they ended up charging me a penalty and extending my membership for two months. This is unethical and nonprofessional. I donβt recommend this gym to anyone.

The gym is alright but probably over-priced. The sales staff is persuasive and outgoing, but will misrepresent the terms of the contract you are to sign up for. So triple check the fine print and make absolute sure that you want this gym, then come to your senses and realize the YMCA is just a better deal.

The facilities are not bad, you have enough resources to do what you need to do.
The reason I am giving a poor review was due to their customer service on billing inquiries.
I had to move out the Bedford/Lexington MA area and it is a nightmare to cancel your membership with them, they will not stop the monthly charge, i had to pay a visit in person.
When i tried to speak Ashley, the account manager of the Lexington site over the phone, it is very unresponsive and not resolving my issue.
My account has been closed and 4 weeks later they just charged $150 dollar on my account for no reason, no explanation and no heads-up about it. Hoping that I will not read my credit card bill statements so they can get away from it.
That's my experience with Boston Sports Club (BSC) at this location. Just keep in mind guys

ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE! If you need to cancel, you have to go "meet the manager" - who is never available and never returns your phone calls! I called to cancel 20 days ago - was told the manager (Ashley Cruz) would call back in a day. She never called back. I was also told that my call would be logged and my cancellation will go into effect at the end of the month. She never called and when I called again, I managed to get to Ashley after several "brush offs" - who then told me, I should have continued to try calling her if I really needed to cancel!
TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!
Buyer beware :(

Think about this:
Who is more likely to right a review, someone who is happy, or someone who is pissed off about something that is most likely the fault of their own arrogance.
I'm gonna be the guy here that is going to honestly say that I have no idea what these angry people are talking about. I love this gym. The staff are super friendly, the equipment is in great shape, the pool is maybe a little warmer than I'd like, but its a good temp for a heated pool. The locker room is big, and I very much appreciate the coat hangers and full length lockers in which I hang clothes I later wear to work. It even has a living room in it with a TV that plays sports center in it. The membership staff were not only helpful, but not pushy at all and have addressed me by name ever since I started going there. Thats the kind of stuff that nobody does. Not only is it good business, but it shows that this place is trying to hire not just anybody. They want it to be a place that you belong. Look, I get it, its an expensive gym. I pay $80 a month and have access to the whole network of clubs. When I'm in Boston I walk into any of their like 15 other gyms on every block in every major part of the city and get treated like I walked into my own house. Thats worth it alone. If you have the financial means, and find yourself around the city in meetings, join this gym.

This is the worst managed club as well as the worst managed company I have ever been a customer of. Not only the current manager, but also the previous manager, does not return phone calls and when you finally get hold of them, they do not do what they agree to do. For example, I was on a membership hold due to traveling on business and was charged the full amouont. When I finally got to speak to the manager, he said he would correct it and did not. When I got my next credit card bill, and called again to have it corrected, he didn't call back. Then I called the main office for the entire Boston Sports Clubs company. I was on hold for 20 minutes. When I got to a person, she said the system was having problems and it took another 20 minutes to get to my record. Then she said she saw the problem but she couldnt get into the system so she would call me back. She didn't call back. I have a terrific personal trainer there but after having billing problems on and off for several years, and having to spend all this time chasing after the manager and the central office to get them fixed, I just don't want to put up with it any more.

This club is nice. Generally it is clean and the equipment is not broken. It is really the only gym in the area if you live in Bedford, Lexington, s. Burlington area. But if you are willing to travel then it is fine.
Overall I think the gym was just okay for my needs, but it is a good gym, which is why I give it 3 stars. I finally decided it was time to leave when they put that big UFX extreme training (crossfit wannabe) in the middle of the gym. It takes up a huge amount of room - and is generally only used by the trainers and their private lessons. It makes EVERYTHING else cramped.
It is 80 bucks a month. For that you are getting a pool and a tennis court (year round) so if you use it it is worth it. For me I was there for cardio and weights - and with places like planet fitness and others, the cost difference is huge for the same items I am using.
One great thing is when you cancel it isn't a hassle. It isn't like Gold's Gym where they make you send a certified letter to Texas or wherever, and then make you jump through hoop after hoop to get it canceled, which ends up taking 3-6 extra months of payments until it is officially canceled.

I give one star for the swimming pool. The club itself is good, but watch out your credit card. We froze our account last year since it did not fit our schedule. They renewed our frozen account without our permission & started charging our credit card. We went & cancelled our membership & still they are charging. The staff is very rude & never return our calls. I am still following up on our request to return our money. They say they cant. I am planning to go to small claims court now.
