Sad that it went team-only. The proximity to Mighty Squirrel made it such a joy to visit. Now brewery-goers often get to observe empty walls and never get to wonder what climbing is like. Open those doors back up!

Absurdly overpriced. Otherwise fun time. Definitely a rip off though for $34 dollar price tag. Climb elsewhere if you can!

Kids were well informed on use of harness and equipment. I think a good gym would offer adequate free climbing for under 8 years. This is more of an adult/ teenager activity

If you want an honest, humbling challenge, this gym is for you. The current set that is up today, had EVERYTHING. It tested coordination, crimps, heel hooks, slab, you name it they had it up. It had one of the hardest ending moves on a V3 that I’ve ever done. But that’s to say, if you want to get good, climbing here would definitely teach you everything you need to know, considering this is a training facility for the youth competition team. Also to the person who says the lighting here sucks, you’re wrong. It’s pretty dope.

Most expensive gym I've ever gone to and definitely the worst quality. You're better off going to Metro Rock in Littleton it's amazing, large top roping and bouldering sections, clean, well lit, and cheaper. Central rock's pictures need to be updated because the holds are now all old and walls are worn and gross. The lighting is also so dark. There is also barely any room in this place and it's only bouldering. They also do not have a good range of route levels. This place is not for kids and not really even for beginners or intermediate level. I don't know how this place justifies their pricing compared to other gyms.

Nice looking gym and friendly staff. The day rate is pretty steep and the hours are terrible. I like to climb here so my SO can hang out and drink a beer at Mighty Squirrel but the gym is only open for 3hrs at a time during the week (as posted) and closed on peak weekend days.

Gym connected to brewery. They come up with novel ideas to engage with the brewery like flash it Wednesdays but it also closes down often for events so make sure to keep up on their social if you’re planning to go. They have some fun feature but I wouldn’t consider it for a home gym.

Overpriced for day pass.. and all holds are old.. probably 10 years old design. The world has moved on. It's a big gym though.

I am giving 3 as a benefit of doubt.

We’re here every week, so might as well leave a review! CRG Waltham has quickly become our go-to bouldering spot as Watertown locals who try to avoid the bigger crowds at Watertown on weekday evenings. With great, grippy walls and new climbs each week, there’s always something new to project here. Staff are super friendly (special shout-out to Alec!) and are always happy to provide tips or simply chat. I wish they were still open on weekends! Of course, having Mighty Squirrel next door is an extra bonus ;)

Started here with no experience, they had me in shoes and on the wall in a flash, plenty of help for a newbie. I've kept coming and they've been great, highly recommended.

THIS place is NOT for beginners. Look at all the reviews ... most of the positive reviewers are experienced climbers. Based on how they treat you, their policies, and other factors, I would have to say it is terrible for beginners. First, the "trial" is promoted as a 3-hour experience, but the lesson is only a bit longer than an hour and then you are "on your own." You could have a staffer manage your ropes, but you would have to "be a member for that" (how could you be a member if you are taking the trial class?) Second, you MUST sign up with a friend if you are going to get any value for your 3 hour experience (but there is nothing to point this out). I see another reviewer booked late at night, so only got the hour, but if I were this gym I would not take reservations for that class any later than two hours before close (so the customer can get value). Third, I asked if I could climb with my daughter, to avoid leaving her alone after the hour, and though there was space in the class they refused me because they were "too busy". Fourth, the electronic reservation made online did not populate to the gym, so they had to add them manually. Finally, I asked for a refund, for a class she NEVER attended. After three requests, first in person (at the desk before the class) and twice by email (to the manager), the only response I have was "no" (again too busy). I get that Covid has made things more challenging for all, but this isn't a supply chain problem or staffing issue. It would not take much to accommodate the customer and/or be kind and understanding. Do NOT go here if you want to start learning how to climb.

Great climbing gym. I think the routes set here are the best out of any CRG in Mass.

My kids were excited to check out this place late one weeknight. It wasn't too busy and was clean. We went at 8pm and were charged for a full day per kid (teen) for 1 hour of climbing (they close at 9pm). I guess we won't go late again but the kids liked it and would go back. $24/ per hour seems a little steep for an hour.....there's no harness/belay, just the free climbing walls. Shoe rental was included.

For what it is (a relatively small bouldering gym), it's pretty good. They have slab, vertical, and overhanging walls and a good diversity of climbing styles (i.e. setting).

As others have commented, their grading is soft (on average, I suspect it's ~2 grades over-rated: V5 @CRG Waltham -> V3 +/- 1 outdoors, at least when I went). If you regularly climb V7, this will have some fun stuff yet, but it may not suffice as your regular gym. (Also, it's small enough and busy enough that it's probably not suitable to training, e.g. 4x4s). However, below this level, climbers seem to be having a lot of fun. The softer grading also means that beginners can meet success and not be stonewalled by a V0.

For me, the highlight (5th star WRT review) was the welcome that I received (on my first visit there) by the staff (Steve). He was friendly and engaging (not just about climbing at that location, but other CRG locations and more broadly).

COVID-19 protocols were as good as I can envision for a gym (happy to see these precautions taken).

The glass window shared with Mighty Squirrel is also very cool and unique.

One of the smaller Central Rock Gyms but still delivers a decent variety of climbs to hack away at. There tends to be easier V5-V8 here than other places, but they're still fun to try. The walls are very gritty which is nice for those slab climbs. Oh and there's a giant window separating the place from the brewery right next door, so be prepared to have an audience.

Probably my favorite bouldering gym. Small, and clean, with some fun and interesting routes. Can get a crowded during its busy hours. Send, and get a nice pump before heading next door for a drink (or two) at Mighty. Great date or friend outing.

We love this place. They will even play Crowbar if you ask nicely. Great and frequent setting of problems. Good variety of grades and features, and they run tournaments and contests nearly every month. The staff are awesome and friendly and frequently cheer climbers on as well as offer beta if asked. It's part of a large network of local gyms which allows you to climb all over New England and New York for one price. Check it out!

Pretty cool CRG. The gym itself is pretty small; I believe actually about 2 feet shorter than the Boston location. I was able to climb all projects VB-V4/5 in about 2 hours.

The coolest part of this gym is how it is connected to the Might Squirrel brewery. Full glass wall allows beer drinkers spectate climbers and vice versa. Great collaboration.

I love the Central Rock Gym climbing gyms, and this one is just as good! It is attached to a brewery that flows right into the gym, which creates a really cool atmosphere. It is only bouldering here, but it doesn't leave you wanting. The setters have really made good use of the space, and have created a great spot to climb!

Pretty small. Bouldering only. Some really good boulders in the v7-v9 range. Every v5/6 had the same hold set which was kind of weird but the movement was still good.

Didn't visit the Mighty Squirrel next door but I'm guessing that's a good perk. There's only one staff member that can approve the Saturday Send for the beer ticket and of they're not there, you're out of luck so that's kind of a bummer too. Anyway, a good gym to hit on an off weekend

Great bouldering facility. Direclty adjacent to a great brewery, a match made in heaven! Buying a membership is absolutely worth it because it gives you access to all of their locations, and even though my 'home gym' is the facility in the North End of Boston proper, we love driving out to Waltham to climb and grab a great brew at mighty squirrel (their mango lassi American IPA is the bomb.)
Staff at all locations have been very kind and supportive, and there is a very relaxed non-competitive, supportive atmosphere in all of the gyms.

Bouldering with a brewery next door. A match made in heaven.

This is a worthy reliever facility for CRG Watertown when you want a quick bouldering burn. The terrain and boulders are decent. The staff is friendly. The facility is clean (as with all CRG facilities). Overall it’s a nice benefit for members to be able to go here.
