I was a long-time member of this gym until an uncomfortable and disrespectful incident during a yoga class. The instructor, an employee of the gym, referred to me as a cis woman during a conversation. I identify simply as a biological woman, and I was taken aback and offended. I later filed a complaint with management because the comment made me feel judged and unsafe in the space.

Instead of addressing the situation appropriately, the gym only offered to freeze my membership for two months. After the freeze, I decided I no longer felt comfortable returning and requested to cancel my membership without additional fees. Despite the circumstances, I was told I still had to follow the 30-day cancellation policy and pay the required charges. The manager I dealt with was dismissive, and there was no genuine concern for how their employee’s behavior affected me.

I repeatedly tried to contact the regional manager (Stephanie), but weeks passed without any follow-up. Each time I called, I felt brushed off or given excuses. At this point, it feels like they are avoiding taking responsibility.

If the roles were reversed, I’m certain I would’ve been accused of discrimination, yet as a paying customer, my feelings and rights were ignored. Because of their lack of accountability and respect, I have involved my lawyer and will be pursuing this further.

I’m extremely disappointed with how this gym handled the situation and would not recommend it to anyone who expects professionalism or basic respect.

Aside from the fact that this gym is a total zoo, they will not let you leave. If you move they ask for your new address which is bullshit and an invasion of privacy. They make it a pain in the ass on purpose. They charged me a cancellation fee despite the fact that I was there for over a year. They refused to cancel my membership, do not go to this predatory gym.

Overall a pretty average experience for paying so much for a membership, I’ve had issues with several things like courts not being available to members they in stead rent out for profit , then they introduced a 10$ fee to have a guest use the courts because the traffic in the area got to be so high, thinking it was a seasonal thing I did not think much of it but after essentially two years the policy is still in place and seems like a money grab , the policy for guest is also very flawed and illogical in many ways , you cannot bring someone as a guest if they have had a previous membership with choice fitness and the guest must be 18 years old, they have repeatedly told me this across various locations but they will accept your money for a membership or a day pass seems like a money grab , if it was strictly an age cut off it would not be an issue but the fact they try to essentially force you into getting a completely separate membership for a young person instead of allowing them to be guest also seems like a money grab

This gym has been a game changer for me as a vet. Most especially during times of cancellations and placing holds on my payment due to me being away for months or years. They keep the gym clean, it’s spacious, and it has a great variety of classes that keep things interesting.Their equipment are top-notch, their trainers are super friendly and knowledgeable, I remember the trainer I had on my first day stated that he also served, and the atmosphere is motivating. I always feel energized after my workouts here, I usually hoop right after. Highly recommend it to anyone looking to get fit and stay healthy!

Overall a pleasant place to work out. The equipment is good and is maintained. However areas for improvement are some of the front counter staff lack good customer service skills. You approach the counter for something and they look annoyed as if you are bothering them. The front counter staff need to clearly understand they are there to assist gym members .

I have been a Choice Fitness member for almost 10 years and was excited to use this location for the pool. It was good for about two years, and I enjoyed it. As of yesterday, there is so much brown, slimy grime on the inside pool tiles and floor that people have started to draw pictures in it (like you see on a dirty truck.) When you kick off the wall in a flip turn, it is FUZZY to the touch, and the bottom is full of unidentifiable floaters.

Two week ago when I saw this for the first time, I tried to talk to a manger in person, but no one was available at the front desk. I called the next day and got an alleged manager on the phone. After I explained the pool was so grimy that people were drawing pictures on the fuzzy slime, she said it was “awkward” that I called. “This is a big facility and we can’t always stay on top of everything.” Seriously?! How hard is it to make sure your pool has the right amount of chlorine in it? That’s like “elite” gym maintenance 101.

She promised she would “talk to our maintenance guy” and apologized, saying she hoped to see me back soon enjoying the pool. I came back yesterday (2 weeks after our conversation) and it’s exactly the same, if not worse. Clearly nothing has been done.

Methuen is having a city-wise hygiene problem right now (rats in the movie theatre and rodents in several schools,) so this should be taken way more seriously. I will not be coming back to this location.

I had a previous review that was 5 stars. However, I've been here a year now and I have a better experience of what CF is.

The amenities are good. It is more expensive than a normal gym membership, but you get access to a hot tub, pool, indoor court, indoor track, etc. I make sure to use them and get my moneys worth.

I'm lowering my score to three stars instead of 5 stars. For as much as I pay, I would like to see the amenities in better shape, namely the sauna and steam room.

The steam room door hasn't had an interior handle in...I can't even remember. If it doesn't have a handle, people aren't able to close it from the inside very well, and steam gets out. I asked for this to be fixed twice and it's been seemingly ignored.

The sauna looks and feels dated. Nails stick out of the wood in odd places and the nails get very hot so if you don't watch where you're sitting or laying your back you'll get burned on hot iron.

The locker room, a good chunk of the lockers don't close properly or at all.

Problems seem to only get fixed when enough people report them. For as much as people pay for a membership here ($65), the staff should be doing their own walkthroughs and making sure everything is top notch. And from my experience, I'm not getting what I pay for.

I was going to give two stars because a lot of these little issues have piled up for me over the last year, I've ignored them for a while but they've stayed the same for a while year and I'm just tired of it.

But there are some bright spots. Lisa (the older woman, not sure if her name is actually Lisa), one of the front desk staff, always has a smile on her face and an amazing attitude. She is the ideal customer facing person.

Most equipment is fixed promptly when it breaks and most of it looks pretty new and nice.

Others have mentioned how the court can be pretty busy with basketball games. I don't really use it except rarely so I won't factor that in.

After more than a year of coming here, it's a mixed bag for me.

EDIT: they fixed the steam room door. I had to keep pestering them. Some new equipment and offerings too but all in all still a 3 star gym imo.

Incredible unethical company. My kid signed up for a year. Did not sign anything to auto renew. They auto renewed it for a second year. When he didn't pay, they suspended access to the gym (which is fine) but continued to bill monthly even though they were at that point denying access to their services. They then sent the accrued balance to collections.. I would never sign a contract with these folks.

A nice gym but I would not recommended unless you're an avid gym goer. They are exclusive in what they offer in amenities and classes they offer and the equipment is better than other commercial gyms. However, they are greedy and make it impossible to cancel your me membership without paying a buy out. None of the staff seems to really care about you unless you're enthusiastic about staying at the gym and using more of their services.

Members are not allowed to bring guests who had previous memberships regardless of timeline. This includes military members who may be visiting family. I don't think Planet Fitness is as strict with this policy, though. Adds insult to injury, penalized for being a previous member and not a current one. Manager on duty made that clear that she will adhere to policy or expect a $20 payment for day use.

I recently upgraded my membership to use the Methuen location as I used to go there when it was Latitudes. I'm really disappointed so far. There's a ton of cardio and weight lifting equipment that's been there for at least 10-15 years and it very much shows. Half the equipment is either broken or certain components are broken. Other equipment like some of the incline treadmills are disgusting and so worn looking. I am happy to see that they removed the carpet from the locker room and I like the track. The staff at the front desk is also friendly. I just really hope that they start replacing equipment.

The gym is nice and good utilities. As for the child care parents please be advised their not babysitters we had a bad experience with the place and when we signed they failed to provide this information. Ask for the rules of the child care and before you signed also ask for the qualifications for the person watching the kids, we got told they only have CPR and AED. They use the policy to their advantage or they will make sure they come up with something and say it’s for safety. Once you signed the cancelation fee is $100 and you have to wait for 3 months as we were told by staff. They will not cancel your membership just be aware. Other parents said they also had problems with this behavior in regards to the childcare.

I do not have an issue with any of the employees of the facility, however, I feel the company policy towards Choice members of other facilities is disgusting! It is obvious that once you are a Choice Fitness member, they are done with you. They actually charge you MORE to use the facility as a guest than someone right off the street. It is $10 to use the basketball courts if you have never been a Choice member, but if you have been a loyal member for 20 years, you get to pay $20. That is so disrespectful! They also have special "sign up" offers.....but not if you have ever been a member. They are obviously looking for fresh meat and don't need to waste their time on members who have already paid. Again, I don't have an issue with employees enforcing the policies, I just think management needs to revisit and review these bias policies.

I am a small business owner myself,so I do not enjoy having to write this review. However, after signing myself & my two sons up in June of 2023 & in total spending over $2,400.00 in total for making the mistake of trusting this company. I had no intention of renewing in June of 2024. I called to notify the management, I was told & convinced by a woman in management, that my contract ended in October 2024 & if I ended it in June,I would pay an additional $300.00 for early termination.I had recites that were bleached out. So I took her word for it.But I knew something was not right,. I contacted my bank, and found out it was June 4th she lied in June,and She was aware of the correct date.
My contract ended June 4th they continued to bill me until until September and additional $654.00
I have been to the gym a total of 5 times during my contract.My sons went about five times each. I fully accept the dues I paid in the 12 months, and the ridiculous, gouging $450.00 cost up front??,but I cannot accept the fact that they felt the need to use fraudulent methods to extract an additional $654.00 out of my account.
And then accuse me falsly blaming one of their salespeople, which is what they are,when I went to confront them about it.
Stay away from this place, there's other gyms for much more reasonable price out there.When I spoke to the Manager to finally get them off my checking account,he was surprisingly Stone faced and acted as if this was a common occurance. I am quite sure it is..

This club has it all sauna indoor track all the machines you could want childcare and basketball court they also have a smoothie bar there are healthy meals snacks and drinks available for purchase my membership $65/month and I can bring someone with me who's never been before if you wana play basketball and not a member and come with a member is $10 . They have personal trainers you can purchase session packs they don't do by session type things but have payment plans also. I recommend Sophie she's so nice and has helped me alot with my fitness goals.

From Monday to Friday the hours of more traffic and use in the gym are from 3pm to 8pm, 25 hours a week, of those 25 hours, 40% 9 hours are rented to a basketball camp, the schedule of parents we work on the day is busy, but because in my subscription they did not tell me that that area is semi-restricted

One of the main reasons I upgraded my choice membership to Elite was the because the new facility had a basketball court, unlike Methuen Choice East and West. The membership for Elite is much higher than the price of the normal membership, despite having a smaller and more limited gym space, when compared to their other locations in Methuen. This was a price I was willing to pay for court access and my experience had been going well until the facility decided to prioritize renting the court out to non-members. It started with 2 days per week and has gradually increased to being rented 3 days (M,Wed,Fri) and Sundays for a league, making it difficult for normal members to use the court they pay for because of limited availability and overcrowding of members on the only days not being rented.

Giving 2 stars because staff are great and very friendly.

However, pretty disappointed with this decision.

Super sad to have to write this review. I’ve been coming to this establishment since it was still Latitude and I’m so sad to have to cancel my membership soon.

I was accosted in the WOMENS ONLY room by the MALE manager in the middle of my workout. I felt completely accosted and violated. When I tried to explain, he threatened my membership. So disappointed, yet not surprised, that men completely violate and disrespect women’s small privacies. The conversation ABSOLUTELY could have waited until I was out of the room and not mid squat in my sports bra.

I loved coming to this gym because of the confidence and privacy of the women’s room. I’m so sad that was ruined for me.

Love coming to the gym everyday! I’m saddened to see the couple negative reviews. I feel like there’s an abundance of equipment, even in peak hours, but that’s just my opinion. At times the ID thing for guest may be too much for some, but it’s not that big a deal. The staff is so kind and It always puts me in the best mood before a workout. Only thing I’d say is I wish people would be more considerate and pick up after themselves so the employees have less to do when it comes to closing time. If you plan on consistently going to choice Elite, the price is very well worth it!

Beware before you join that your guest can’t be a previous Choice member or they’ll be charged $20 every time they come in as guest. This information isn’t being shared at the time of enrollment; and it’s ridiculous at $59.99 a month, an annual fee of $79.99 (not adding the enrollment fee), plus great majority of Methuen residents at some point have been a member of Choice. The cancellation process is also costly.

Place has the potential and the room to be an “Elite Choice Fitness” but it is not there yet. I personally think that an Elite gym in 2023 must have the following:
- a large rig with plenty of squad rags
- lifting platforms
- bumper plates
- power lifting bars
- olympic weight lifting bars
- enough resistance bands
- more regular plates
- a much nicer studio cycling room
- more clases for those that like this style of training

Yes they do have a nice pool and basketball court but everything else needs to be updated to be able to reach the elite status.

Choice has really helped turn this place around. They fixed the hole in the pool and the pool is actually being used. The hot tub is now running correctly and is clean to use. I appreciate them touching up all around whether its the new TV's, the basketball court cleaner look or some of the equipment around the place. So kudos to choice for revamping things and shout out to the staff who all do a great job, special shoutout to Damien who from what I see ties the community together. That's why I give it a 4 today even though a 3 is probably more deserving. They clearly are going in the right direction I think they just need a bit more time.

Area's I think they should improve on. Mens locker room specifically the shower area needs a complete facelift. The steam room needs a quick scrub weekly. I'd send someone to the locker room every hour to clean up after people and make sure things are working. The lockers could use a facelift as a whole but that's just me knit picking. I also think they should weed out the grandfathered memberships as that will help drive a bigger overall respect for common area from everyone. It also feels that a majority of the traffic that clogs up the basketball court during peak hours are all on the grandfathered membership. Sometimes wait times for games are as long as 30 minutes which is unbearable. Non peak hour wait times are a lot more reasonable.
