I would sooner recommend doing calisthenics at a local park in the middle of January than signing up at this gym. I assume getting out of a deal with the devil would be more seamless and lees complicated than it is at this awful establishment. Twice now have I tried to get out to no avail. They will employ a variety of subterfuge to keep you enslaved to this gym. A variety of hidden fees, buyouts to get out of a contract even after giving 30 days notice and telling them you are not interested in renewing. Everything the customer says will fall on deaf ears. Never have I had a more unsavory experience at a gym in my life. This has to be intentionally manufactured to make someone capitulate and accept paying month and month again. I can imagine the day I’m finally free from such an unbearable greedy day will feel akin to when hostages are rescued by the swat team and freed from their captors. Absolutely dreadful.

Do not go to this gym unless you want to be charged a load of fees if you want to cancel. The management is horrendous. They do not get back to you until the fees are there. They wait until it racks up and the tell you about it just to not respond to you until the next set of fees are in. Cancelling the membership is the most difficult thing to do especially with the poor
Management and unreliable unresponsive team. My significant other also had the same problems they told her no fees will be added after the fact we went in and cancelled and come now they mail her a letter saying more than 5 months of fees are due. After the fact of cancelling and letting management know. Won’t be surprised if this gym does another rebranding in the next year. They do not care for you. All they care about is getting you to sign.

Didn’t get past the front desk without feeling my family and I were treated poorly. Front desk staff were so rude and when they didn’t want to entertain questions they would just go get someone else to do the same. No sense of communicating or working with people as they were too busy holding onto their cell phones to not miss whatever we stopped them from scrolling through. It is pretty sad when staff want to pound their chest like they are important in front of children and like their parents are worthless. Way to obtain business or maintain a good reputation. Highly recommend better training for staff on how to communicate and serve customers.

DO NOT JOIN THIS GYM!!! They are deceitful and expensive. I tried a “7 day free trial”. Or so I thought. I was asked to sign a contract and put in my routing number but was told I wouldn’t get charged. I then got charged for the month, called to cancel, and they said it was done. I thought i had just messed up and payed for a month. The guy on the phone never canceled it and I was then charged for the next two months PLUS an additional $80 annual fee for 60+ days. Then they charged me an additional $100 to cancel and I am still going to be charged the $65 monthly fee next week. They suck!!

Choice Fitness has always been one of my favorite places in the community. It’s a beautiful, spacious facility with everything — fitness, sports, swimming, and family activities all under one roof. For years I enjoyed being part of the energy there, and I still consider it one of the best clubs around. As the owner of ShanthalaMD Laser & Aesthetics Center, right next door for the past 11 years, I’m proud to share the neighborhood with such a strong and inspiring fitness landmark.

Everything is wonderful. Good cleaning in the locker room and sauna. Only two suggestions ; put the situp bench back near the blue mat area on the second floor, and please get the large towels back. The small towels are barely large enough for a 12 year old boy!

I’ve been going to this gym since before it became Choice Fitness. I truly love this gym—the atmosphere, the equipment, the community. That’s why what happened with a trainer named Gerry is so disappointing and honestly hurtful.

After a free session, Gerry pressured me into signing up for personal training.(after weeks of befriending me) I told him I couldn’t afford it, and he promised I wouldn’t be charged unless I actually started. He rushed me through the paperwork, didn’t explain anything, and said it was just routine. I trusted him.

A day and a half later, I left a sticky note at the front desk saying I wanted to cancel. Gerry never followed up. He avoided me completely after that—wouldn’t even look at me in the gym. If this was all done in good faith, why do I feel so used?

A month later, I was charged $570 for sessions I never did. Now they’re refusing to refund me, acting like I agreed to everything. I feel tricked.

I’ve been loyal to this gym for years. This situation has made me question everything. Please be careful—don’t sign anything unless it’s fully explained, and don’t rely on verbal promises. I never thought I’d be writing a review like this, but I don’t want this to happen to someone else.
And if it has I would
Love for you to comment.

I have been going to choice fitness Peabody since The building was built in 2004. It’s a great facility. I like what they have done since taking over for Boston sports clubs. They have great programming and outreach. The service is good and they are responsive. I really like being able to go to different clubs depending on the area that I’m in the Chelmsford club is really nice and clean too being able to lift do cardio and recover with the Jacuzzi steam room and sauna is really nice. It’s a little bit of peace during a crazy day.

Choice fitness has really improved since taking over from the prior owners! The staff like Carlos, Jacob, James, Alexis and all the rest… too many to name… are fantastic and go above and beyond. The staff is friendly and always make you feel welcome. Even the maintenance staff like Josie work hard to make the club a pleasant experience. The club is making improvements all the time. The only negative is one of the instructors who leads some spin classes. The instructor is rude, has no customer service skills, disrespectful and doesn’t know how to run a cycle class. Their presence is no asset to the club and they should be fired. Don’t let this negative deter you from joining … no business is perfect… but this one is close!!!!

I have been a member for approximately a year now primarily using the Peabody facility and occasionally the Danvers spot. It’s very spacious and well equipped. Plenty of treadmills and stairclimbers. I love the sauna and there are a lot of showers available with body wash and shampoo/conditioner. The staff has been very helpful especially Alexis and Alyssa. Alexis seems to know many of the members and is always very friendly with everyone. I’m always greeted with a smile. She has helped me on multiple occasions with how to use a machine and makes the best smoothies. I highly recommend this gym for all levels of fitness needs.

I honestly love going to this gym, I’ve recently started my workout journey and it’s been amazing. Having the choice of the soccer field or basketball court and also the separate woman’s room is awesome. Staff is usually awesome expect for a young girl named Alexis. She looks completely miserable everytime you walk in and not to mention she’s the person that greets you when walking in. Imagine going to the gym ready to kill your workout and you walk into a miserable greater…. Asking questions? Please don’t go to her it’s as if you’re are ruining her whole day and interrupting her to ask your question. I signed up online after visiting this gym and was told I get a free shirt, I went in to ask and with complete attitude told me I wasn’t eligible because I didn’t sign up in person and I would have to take it up with management… I spoke to a different team member days later who apologized for her rudeness and incorrect information and helped me out with my free t shirt. Hey I get it going to work isn’t always going to have happy days but wow every visit Alexis makes it unpleasant to start off.

Fixed all the facilities that were neglected by BSC, so it's a good gym now. You're getting what you're paying for. Choice really followed through on this.

Membership seems to have increased and the gym is much busier now, like in the Latitude days, a good thing! They added a new workout area with additional equipment, some of which we never had, so they've improved the gym as well.

The only drawback I can think of are the smoothies - they're just a sweetened mix. Even the healthy smoothies taste candy-like, so I never get them - one was enough. We had real smoothies back in the Latitude days - and the smoothie bar was booming. I'm still giving them 5 stars, as this is a minor issue.

I still go there only because they have racquetball courts as they are getting pretty limited in supply. Basic amenities are lacking, as bathrooms still look like they are from a low-level gym. Barely maintained with stall doors that don't close and seat liners empty most times.
Hot tub has been inoperable since COVID, with constant excuses of missing parts and permits.
Few amenities like towels don't justify the cost of membership. Was hoping for better club services and offerings with newer ownership, but sadly only interested in revenue opportunities and not necessarily current members.
Hoping changes are on the horizon, but not holding my breath.
Have reached out to management a few times, with little results and current front desk staff although friendly, not super knowledgeable about repair timelines etc.

Sept 2024 update: Great improvements! No longer running out of towels. FIX THE WIFI!!!!

1-year update in 2023: Great improvements all around. All the leather covers on gym equipments have been replaced. The steam room has been fixed. Some showers are still broken. The water filter in the men’s locker worked for like a few days. I guess they gave up on that. The towels are back, but at a limited level, which is fine. PLEASE FIX THE WIFI because it has never worked. It has a full bar, but it doesn’t work! I’m literally downstairs connected to Comcast WiFi to leave this review.

2022 review: I had been with Boston Sports Club since they first opened in Boston many years ago. The pandemic closed all of the locations I normally went to so I made this Peabody location my home gym. Choice Fitness took over in October of 2022. The gym is run down and was poorly managed by BSC. It’s been only a couple of weeks so things are still broken, which I understand. I’m sure the new company will fix or make improvements as time goes on since this is one of their elite locations. I think the locker room is slightly cleaner. The front desk employees have no chair so they’re all standing and paying attention unlike the previous company whose front desk employees sat around and stared at their phones their whole shifts. One complaint I have for the new company is the music. 9 out of 10 members walk around with their headphones, yet they blast rap music at max volume making it really hard for us to listen to our own stuff. Some of us actually listen podcasts or audio books. I’ll come back and revisit this review in the future if things change.

I've been a member of Choice Fitness for over 10 years now, and I can't say enough good things about this gym. The facility is always clean, the equipment is well-maintained, and the atmosphere is incredibly welcoming.

A huge shoutout to Damian Hamilton, the general manager, who has truly made this gym exceptional. Damian's commitment to creating a positive and motivating environment is evident in every aspect of the gym. He's always around, greeting members with a smile, addressing any concerns promptly, and ensuring everything runs smoothly. His dedication to member satisfaction sets Choice Fitness apart from other gyms.

The variety of classes offered, combined with the top-notch trainers, makes it easy to stay motivated and reach my fitness goals. If you're looking for a gym where you feel valued and supported, Choice Fitness is the place to be. Thanks to Damian and the entire team for making this gym great!

I've been coming to this location for the past 2 years. The former manager Steve was very nice. I'm glad that Erica is no longer apart of this location. I thought she some personal issue with me until one day I overheard other members complaining in the sauna about her. Then, I realized she was just unfit to be dealing with humans.
-The facility is progressively making adjustments !! I appreciate this.
-The new manager is really nice & professional. I feel comfortable enough to approach him if I have any concerns.
*Carlos is the perfect example of consistent & Excellent customer service. He is always there with a big smile, and positivity. He greets most of everyone by name. Once you get there you'll know exactly who he is!
-I feel my children are welcome & they never want to leave the (clean) child care.
-All of the staff members are always sure to greet & smile at you when you arrive and leave the facilty *(even if they're taking a call)
-This place is my sanctuary !!

Ive been at this location since they opened as latitude and I was there through all of the brand changes when choice fitness first bought the gym. I did not like any of the changes that were being made including the staff and the manager Steve. after hearing they got new staff and new management I was willing to give them another try and I could not be happier. The manger Damien is great, always willing to address issues and concerns super easy to talk to. Ive noticed at the front door staff not only greets me by name but also many other members coming and going and for me that shows they truly care to know their members. I attend the gym in the morning and that crew dnt miss a beat, Carlos is always there with a huge smile on his face ready to greet you, something so simple goes a long way and sets the day off right. All in all great job guys keep up the great service.

I belonged to this location for 10 years. My son enjoyed using the turf field to practice his golf swing and hit nerf golf balls. A new manager recently took over and told him he couldn't hit the nerf balls. I asked why and the manager said he no longer wants golf. No reason, just no golf. Baseball, lacrosse balls, etc are fine but nerf balls are not allowed. Safe to say this new manager is unreasonable, has too much leeway by upper management to make decisions regardless of commonsense!

So glad that my one year contract is almost over, I have put my account on hold because this place/location is not worth paying the 60 dollars per month and mind you, they don’t tell you that you that you have to pay 100 dollars for a cancellation fee, which was insane. My boyfriend was charged twice and they never refunded his money back. One of the workers claimed that they were a “manager” when they weren’t when we were trying to fix the issue. Also so glad that the assistant manager Erica I believe was her name got fired. She was disrespectful and had no intentions of helping others out when they had an issue instead she would have an attitude like girl bye. Couldn’t even stand looking at her face when I walked in. I decided to go to the danvers location and they are SO MUCH RESPECTFUL. But other than that this location is a no go. Save your money ppl. If you want a good experience with this company I suggest starting a membership at the Danvers location. Not peabody.

But it’s the next best option at the moment… Hoping new management keeps up the momentum.

BUT the the most disgusting stuff is an attempt to always cheat you on money 💵

As a newcomer to this country 🇺🇸 I am still learning and the staff did not explain to me the details of the agreement when I decided to join the gym for a couple months 🏷️

👆🏼Be careful and read your agreement thoroughly!!

I didn’t see any chargers on the website 🌐for being unable to attend the gym, thus willingly joined.

HOWEVER, it magically appeared in my contract ($100 for being unable to continue) as well as the fact one would have to you pay for extra month after you quit 🤯

Do your best to find another place of that kind, I am sure there are a lot more with the client oriented service.

This place sucks 👎🏼

Do not come here if you have a special needs child. Erica the assistant manager berated me in front of customers for advocating for the poor treatment of my autistic 1 year old in their child care room. The childcare room worker in the morning had abhorrent behavior, informing me that my disabled toddler just didn’t want to listen and was destructive. I made it extremely clear upon bringing him there for the first time that he is on the spectrum, nonverbal, very busy, and a climber. After my interaction with Erica where she told me that “on the spectrum is a new term that no one knows like gluten free” she told me that me and my disabled baby are not allowed there because he doesn’t listen and is destructive and I have a bad attitude. Once my husband called Steve the GM it turns out she doesn’t have the authority to do that and I am welcome back. How this gets dealt with will determine whether I return or make a report to the ADA. I love my autistic son and will fight for dignity and respect for him no matter what.

Editing to add that it has been brought to my attention that the assistant manager and childcare worker are mother and daughter. They ganged up and gaslit me to make me doubt the fact that I repeatedly told this worker about my sons disability. I will not let this go and I will update my review on whether or not management makes the right decision.

So let me say that firstly this is a good gym, and that it has a ton of amenities that many other places do not. Smoothie bar, pool, indoor football field area, spacious locker rooms etc. Then why the three star review you may ask? Because it simply doesn't have enough weight lifting equipment to justify how expensive the gym is. The two levels that contain all the weight equipment filled with dead space. Compare the football field area to the weight lifting areas of the first and second floor. The total square footage of the football field seems significantly higher than the two zones that would be used most. I've had to wait for machines several times at this gym, but never the one in Danvers. It seems like it should be worth 60 dollars a month, but when you break it down and compare it to the things you'd actually use in the gym it's just not worth the cost.

Pool lanes have been sold to swim classes so only 1 gym member can swim per hour from 5-6pm. Pool locker room is disgusting. Lights out, lockers are small, missing ceiling tiles, rusty hand dryers and just plain dirty. I have complained to staff/managers and they seemed bothered I was even speaking to them. Staff don’t even know how long the pool is. They restrict you on pool workouts and then won’t let you out of the contract. Definitely choose another gym because not much has changed from when Latitude and BSC owned it and failed. Myself and other military and first responders work out here. Although you have good amenities, we just go work out, use various cardio machines etc. Nothing else. Our choice of course.

We like others, were members of BSC but due to Covid and closing of various BSC clubs; we went to Peabody BSC. We were on a fee for first responders and military for just over 30.00 a month. We appreciated BSC's offer.

Just received notice from Choice that we are going up to 40.00. No problem. If you have something to offer us that is less than 40,00 as we all are either deployed, on duty and do not get to use the gym as often as we like to; that would be appreciated. We did not join the service etc. to get discounts; but the amount of use we have time for is not worth that money just to lift weights and use cardio machines. Yes, we know, there are other gyms to join and we will do that. That is the easy part.

Personal problem for us , but the increase is a bit much. Life is full of choices of course, and we are choosing to leave after many years.

Consider retention of our memberships as the amount of money you invested as indicated is great, but having steady payments from loyal, respectful of your gym members should be considered.

Thank you

If I could give less than one star, I would. The takeover has gone horribly from Boston sports club. They brought the feel of a Lowell planet fitness to the North Shore. Half of the equipment is broken and the locker rooms are 20 years old and aging. No hot tub or sauna. The pool needs a little bit more chlorine due to the number of kids that are they are for the rented lessons, which also makes it difficult to find a lane. Also, beware of the fine print that will not be disclosed in the contract. $100 cancellation fee.

The hot tub has been closed for over a year and there using Covid as an excuse but yet they have the sauna open where you are right up against other people in the heat. The indoor field is half the time taken up because they rent it out to people to make profit while we pay over 50 bucks a month and can’t even use what we pay for. They won’t even fix the mens sauna or steam room that’s been down for weeks. It’s a shame what’s happening to this place…

I was at this location while it was Latitude, and towards the end, things weren’t great, (clean), but I really loved what this gym had to offer in terms of the variety of classes, the pool, the track, tanning and many workout spaces including a women’s only area. I stayed on during the transfer to BSC, and having been a member years ago, I knew basically what to expect. I get a lot of workout options, don’t usually ever have to wait to use equipment, and the staff is always friendly. Best of all, it’s affordable. There may not be extra’s like hand towels, as there used to be, but that is not a dealbreaker for me. I really like it here; it’s a place to work out - and just happens to have a smoothie bar.

I’m suprised the rating is a 3.7 here. This gym has been going downhill since tsi bought it. The mens steam room was closed for months, then reopened for a few weeks and now been closed again, and staff informed me the closure is permanent. The sauna doesn’t work, half the showers have no controls (they have been taken apart and just left in stalls), toilets are backed up all over the building, there are leaks in many locations in the interior, and ventilation in the locker rooms hasn’t worked in years. I don’t know what the future plans are for this building or what the ownership stake is but there appears to be no intention of turning it into a functional facility or even having the amenities they advertise operational. It is questionable whether even basic board of health standards are met here.

This gym is huge, has the turf field, basketball court, track, raq ball and layout to be an excellent place to workout. It is a shame to seen basic maintenance been neglected for so long that it has gotten to this point. Every time I set foot in the gym it seems like something else is broken or has failed.

Would not recommend joining for people looking unless there is a huge change in the level of commitment. Seems like a place that is just trying to limit the monthly losses and only offer the bare minimum.

I went in the gym to cancel my membership in person. At the front desk I was told that they canceled my membership, I was all set. Later I realized I was still being charged so I went in again. I told them what happened and requested a refund. They canceled my membership (again) but the manager wasn’t available so I couldn’t talk to her. Later she called me, I told her what happened. She said there is no proof I canceled my membership at first time so she won’t give me a refund. She was rude and careless. She kept saying I had no proof and I can do whatever I want she doesn’t give a refund. She was unconcerned about what I was saying. Because front desk employees don’t do their jobs I have to pay? That’s how they run their business. This gym doesn’t care about its customers. What a shame! Don’t join them, go somewhere else, there are so many other fitness facilities where you can be appreciated!

Comments: Last night after i came back from my workout my locker was opened without lock and someone took my Tshirt, My pants, and my coat, my debit car was in one of my pants pocket. so i think you have a very professional person who to steal and knows how to open locks a lockers. i have been coming to this facility for a longgggggg time. i think this is really bad and unacceptable, i would like for the facility manager call me and tell what we can do about this. last night i said to the guy at the desk what happened and he really ignored me and he just said wow, then i ask for a manager email of phone number and he gave me a business car d from a swimming company called Solo North shore, Is this is also a joke?
and that's about it. i need a solutions to all of this. I am very disappointed and really upset.

I will be looking forward to hearing from Facility Manager

A great gym as far as variety of equipment & pretty ample space , been a member since it’s doors opened however I’m saddened to see the upkeep to both equipment , & cleanliness go down hill . It’s often a mess with equipment lying around everywhere, missing dumbbells , broken attachments. Perhaps if cleaning was kept up by both staff & patrons , & ppl had the decency to re rack their weights it would have more class / appeal like it once did. It’s sad to see & makes me consider joining elsewhere. Simple fixes could make a world a difference .

It has great offerings (pool, dance room, pilates, rock wall, lots of equipment, etc) and if not for some issues I'd probably give this a 4. As an ops manager I look at the facility as a whole as should their managers. I've asked for a few weeks now to put batteries in the clock and fill the sanitizer dispenser in the woman's gym but it still hasn't been done. This is not a difficult thing to do.
There has also been NUMEROUS billing mistakes and they always say the business manager will call me back but NEVER does.

Its starting to show it's age as it has work that needs to be addressed such as the bathrooms with missing and broken faucets, tiles etc. It seems to get sold from one company to another without issues being addressed.

Watch out for false advertisement!

Came in for the “free 5 day trial” plastered all over the website, excited for a nice workout with friends who are members. Told at the front desk it was magically “cancelled today” due to 25% capacity and that I could not accompany one of my friends as a guest either. Only option was to pay $15 to enter the facility.

Guess that 25% capacity doesn’t matter if you’re willing to pay! Although I think they made that up anyway 😂

I was looking forward to a free trial and possibly would have agreed to a membership at the end of the five days. But after witnessing the deceiving nature of the company, I wouldn’t trust them with my credit card information!

Boston Sports Club is a money hungry scam artist of a company. And not to mention the facility is half empty! Not worth one dime of your money

People at front desk seem annoyed when dealing with members. As I walked through the gym I saw many people very close to each other and not with their masks fully equipped. Corporate owned to serve the share holders, not the members. When Boston Sports Club bought this location, formerly Lattitudes of Peabody, they promised no changes but have since exposed those lies in deceptive billing practices. Overbilling members hundreds of dollars a month, invested only in a branded floor mat and new sign, cut the number of free classes by 40%, forced out popular instructors, and now after investing nothing wants to raise rates 20%. I personally was a member of this club for 10 years and while things were not perfect with the previous owners, it is clear that things are going to continue to get much worse. Don't waste your time even looking at this club. You would be better served at WOW next door, or even just going for a walk.

Just over a month ago I would no longer be a member of Peabody's BSC. The reason is obvious, it was impossible to use the sauna and the second floor bathroom which is the gym's main bathroom. But things have changed with the maintenance people. It was pleasant to attend because of the cleanliness and organization that the night-cleaning boy left the restrooms and the sauna. My wife, who attends the same time as me, said the same about the ladies' room, not to mention the friendliness and attentive way they direct to members. Today I certainly don't leave Peabody's BSC. General Manager congratulations on the change and the two professionals who are so dedicated.

Joke of a gym for weightlifting. Weights are never racked, can't find enough weights, they are spread out so sporadically you are lucky to find what you need. And when you do its because you walked around the entire floor. The machines are substandard as well. Using weights to level them off. The floor has huge bubbles in it that are so easily tripped on. No water bottle fill up stations that I saw, just bubblers. The only thing they have going for them is the multi floors of activities to do: racquetball, basketball, swimming, etc. Other than that it's very low standards for weight lifting and training. Would not recommend this gym if you're looking for serious body workouts. Internet is really really bad

Update: greatly improved since this post. Greatly improved since BSC bought it out. Employees are great! Never too crowded really. I enjoy going here a lot. Some equipment could use a few bolts tightened, but they seem to improve. Could also use another squat rack. And still could use better and more water fountains. But it's a great place to go
