I'm a member at another studio with 350 classes under my belt. I am on vacation and decided to join my sister at her studio in Hanover for a little sister date. We took a level 1 since my sister is new to the practice and no matter the level you can get a great workout through your engagement. Unnecessary but I was pretty surprised having done drop ins at other studios I never got a call or text about the single class. Other studios have done that as a reminder, but also as a sales tactic wondering if maybe I'm moving to the area and checking them out.
I love that the studio has doors separating the front desk area with the reformer space. When we got back there I was very surprised that instructor Tricia was no where to be found. About 2 minutes past start time she came out of a door somewhere in the back and immediately dove in, no introductions - didn't seem like she even knew any of her clients. Class started off fine. I appreciated her tuning us into our breath work and explaining connecting breath to movement - my fav, but then she started counting way too fast that if you were trying to connect your breath and follow her counts you would practically be hyperventilating. At one point she had us do lunges on the reformer, fortunately I knew what she was talking about and was ready but then the way she described them sounded like scooters. Being new to her I paused and looked around and sure enough everyone was doing scooters. She said "beautiful perfect" so I'm like - ok guess we're doing scooters.. then once we finished that set she then described scooters again this time calling them scooters. More than once she got us into prep for a move then would stop and answer a question someone had answer them before getting people started so there was a lot of just laying around waiting for an instruction. We also did short box series with feet in safety strap and no one was told how to correctly use the strap with many people looking around confused. I have a correction to my sister and she immediately felt better. Tricia did no corrections to anyone's form or safety and just kept saying "perfect" "amazing" or "beautiful" even when so many people where doing the move incorrectly or unsafely. At one point she also added on movements to the one side that she did not do on the other feeling lopsided and messy. Looking around everyone was confused like wait did I miss this on the other side? Am I doing this correctly etc? After, class she immediately ran back into the little office again. At my home studio the instructors stay out and engage with their clients getting to know them and answering questions about their practice. Hopefully she's just new and overtime will hone her instruction.
Also, whatever you do don't look down into the well. The reformer tracks were filthy. I moved from one, looked down at another, went to move to a 3rd before I realized they all looked like this - hair, dust, etc. A quick Swiffer to the rails will take care of it but this looked like months of no cleaning. I know at my home studio the managers and sales associates have weekly cleaning checklists we all see them completing in between classes or at the beginning or start of the day and it's much.appreciated to workout in a clean facility.
However, I did notice Pia is on the schedule for instructors and she is one of the best I've ever had having worked out with her at the other studios she's also at.
Hopefully the manager can take this all to heart, maybe have Tricia shadow Pia or pass along feedback so she can improve and overall help Hanover shine - no pun intended. The studio is HUGE compared to others I've been in and in a great location. They also have a GREAT sock collection and cute gear for sale. Wish them the best. 💙

The intro class was a group of all first time people and it was informative and fun. I bought a membership right away and my first actual class was such a great workout! Low impact and effective. I’ll be a regular.

I like it! I’ve been going since August. I only go once a week, but I’ve definitely seen a difference in how tone and lean I am! I do most of my classes with Pia and really like her instructing style. Amanda teaches a great class too! There was definitely a little bit of trial and error for me at first, especially learning the names of some of the position/moves, but if you stick with it, it’s worth it!

I had my first class and instructor was very rude. She said she can’t interrupt classes to assist new members. Not a place for beginners or seniors.
