Where to begin? The owner of CrossFit Newton, Gil, is a true gem. His ability to curate and craft workouts that meet the needs of his athletes matches perfectly. CrossFit is for everyone, and you will feel that when you walk into the doors of this gym. The coaches are kind, caring, and always willing to help. They will level you up skill wise, or meet you where you are at with ability, injury, etc. Gil is so genuine and open, there’s no gimmicks here. It’s just a love for movement and being your best self…however that looks for you. In addition, building a community with likeminded individuals is a gift. I’m so grateful I made the switch to this gym!

Dropped into CFN twice this week and have nothing but positive feelings about this place. Classic CrossFit class format with stretching, strength, and a metcon. Worked with coaches Alayna and Jack. Both couldn’t be more friendly and attentive to the athletes/community. Witnessed them assist adapt the workouts for newer athletes as well as critique the more seasoned gym-goers. CFN also has a very welcoming community which always enhances the overall fitness experience. Plenty of room, clean facility, and amazing people. Would strongly recommend for anyone living in the area looking for fun yet challenging workouts or dropping in for a couple of days. Thanks for having me, I’ll be back.

This place is my happy place. It's the hour of my day that makes all the other hours better. I've been going for ten years, and love it so much that I've become a coach! Everyone is so kind and supportive, and we all are chasing our own goals, in community -- some people want to be a badass; others want to stay active into old age; some want to lift heavy weights; others want to run marathons; some want to look good nekked; others want to celebrate their bodies as they are. And some of us want to do it all. Whatever your goals, whoever you are, there is a place for you at CFN. Take it from this 51-year-old suburban mom!
Update, two(ish) years later (Jan. 2024) - I've now been going for nearly 12 years and cannot imagine my life without it. I have so. much. fun. when I'm there, and everything I do there carries over into the rest of my life - physically, emotionally, and mentally. I am a stronger, better, healthier person because of the time I spend at CFN, making friends, working out, and just generally having fun. Try it; you won't regret it!

CFN has become an integral part of my life. Owner/Coach Gil programs tough workouts but is also so knowledgeable and is always providing scaling options for everyone’s individual fitness levels and needs. The warm atmosphere at the gym makes me eager to show up and my fellow workout buddies push me but just in an encouraging and friendly way.
Gil helped me safely work out through two pregnancies and even held my babies so I could work out!
CFN is perfect for beginners, fitness buffs, everything in between.

This is the 3rd Crossfit gym I have been a member at. What sets Crossfit Newton apart from the others, is the sense of community, combined with the knowledge and compassion from ownership. Over the six years that I have been a member, I reached goals, both at a skill and strength level, I never thought I could accomplish in my life. For this reason, I continue to set higher goals as I progress.
Not only do I feel accomplished physically when leaving the gym, more importantly, my state of mind is in a better place then when I first arrived. Long way of saying, I highly recommend the gym! Member tip (if possible) - try having your first class with Gil. That is not saying there is anything wrong with the other coaches, as all coaches at the gym are great!

I went to 3 drop-in classes with Gil and loved all of them. It was a great workout and a welcoming, supportive, fun community. As a young woman I felt comfortable. Gil was FANTASTIC, spending personalized time understanding my situation, giving helpful advice on ways I could eliminate pain, and guiding me through proper form. Gil's expansive physiological knowledge applied practically made me question the credentials of my physical therapist!

Response to owner comments: I had stopped in at the gym and explained what happened in person to you, it's been a long while, so I don't blame you for not remembering. At the time, you did not seem to be making any other accommodations beyond helping me cancel my membership. I did not respond to your emails earlier because I felt it was inappropriate for you to reach out to my work email, which I never provided you with, without giving me even a couple hours to get back to the email you sent to my personal address.

CFN is the best! Solid, supportive community, super friendly and high energy, led by the incomparable Gil Cohen. Everyone pushes each other to be their best, but there is no real pressure, and there are no hardos. All age groups and abilities are welcome. The coaches are committed and knowledgeable and take time to work with everyone individually. The focus is on form and flexibility and mobility and, above all, safety. I've been going for five years and I've never gotten injured. Give me another five years with CFN and I am confident that I will win Olympic gold in virtually every category, summer and winter.

New member here, joined in Sept. '22. As a 40-something jumping into CrossFit coming back from some health issues and downtime post-Covid I had my doubts about how it might work out, despite having CrossFit and CFN recommended to me.
I can tell you that it has been a great experience so far. The coaches and community have been very supportive and helpful. I am enjoying the workouts and results are starting to take shape. Most importantly I have been encouraged to advance my skills and fitness while never feeling pressured to go too hard.
CFN is fun and the people that go there are universally positive. Looking forward to additional fun and progress in '23!

Gret community, great coach - Gil is awesome and made me feel very welcome from day one. I appreciate the low key come as you are, unpretentious vibe this little hidden gym has. Good programming with accommodation and pace for all levels. Gil is definitely focused on building skills and strength at your own pace and is very encouraging which has helped me build more confidence in my ability to execute many of the lifts.

I've been attending since early September. When I had my initial convo with Coach Gil, I came in with a few injuries that were rehabbed and a lot of fear that I would not cut it in a CrossFit program. (I was super into indoor cycling and pilates which were great but CrossFit Newton gives me all that and strength.) I still have so much to learn but I have learned that I am stronger than I think I am. They provide modifications for everything and always push you to be your strongest. If you think a WOD looks easy, it probably isn't and if you think a modification seems like they are going easy on you, they probably aren't. Plus, if you let yourself get to know other people, you might find you have a new community of people who cheer you on when the going gets rough, who laugh with you, and who give you fist bumps at the end of each workout.

I was reluctantly looking for a place to supplement my climbing with some cross training, because I was struggling to
improve due to various climbing injuries. I'm someone who's always disliked group programming but this place has changed me totally. If you are reading this review, then you must be thinking about checking out CrossFit Newton (CFN). All I can say is, don't hesitate and let fear get in the way of your fitness. You will not be disappointed at CFN! Whether incorporating fitness into your life is a new journey for you, or you have always been active and are just looking for a new gym, CFN is worth checking out!
I joined CFN five years ago because I was looking for a new way to stay fit. I knew going to a big box gym and leaving the workout plan to myself, would not work for me. I knew I would likely just get on the elliptical for 15 minutes, and then figure out a reason why it was time for me to stop.
I had never done CrossFit; or really lifted the barbell very much, so I was nervous going in. But one day, I just decided to stop stalling and reached out about the OnRamp, and I have not looked back since.
The coaches and the programming at CFN are great! I love knowing that I'll be there for an hour and that someone has a workout planned for me. The workouts are completely scalable for all levels, which means, whether this is your first time doing CrossFit, or you have been doing it for years, the workout will push you.
I have never been to another CrossFit gym, so I can't provide a first-hand comparison. I have heard that other gyms emphasize leader boards and posting times and weights. CFN does not do that. The only person you are competing against is yourself. The coaches are there to guide you, and maybe "suggest" that you add some weight, 😊. But in the end, adding more way is completely up to you .
CFN is a great community. The coaches and athletes are welcoming and supportive of everyone.

I’ve been coming to CrossFit Newton for about 10 years now. This is hands down the best gym in the area. Whether you have been doing CrossFit for a decade or haven’t taken your first class yet, you should give CFN a try. The program is tailored to your skill level and the coaches always are happy to give tips and tricks of the trade. I am grateful to have met this wonderful community. The owner Gil is a vault of exercise knowledge. Any possible question you could ask, he will have an answer. The program itself is always varied which is unlike some gyms in the area. There is a good mix of weightlifting, cardio, bodybuilding, and of course- classic CrossFit workouts. There is really something for everyone. 10/10!!

Joining the gym 5 years ago was one of the best decisions that I’ve ever made. Being older, I was pretty intimidated by all of the different weight lifting and exercise moves even though I’ve been an active person my whole life, but Gil always includes modifications so that anyone at any level can get a great workout without feeling shamed or less than. The environment is very friendly and casual and everyone feels accepted and supported. Even though I am pushing 60, I feel like I’m in the best shape of my life. Drop in for a class and see for yourself! You won’t regret it.

I joined CrossFit Newton about 1.5 years ago.
What I enjoy most is how the owner (Gil) and the team of coaches have a genuine care for you as an athlete and a human.
They meet athletes where they are in their fitness journey and always keep a positive environment. I have seen them scale workouts as appropriate to challenge athletes, but in way they feel comfortable. They have done the same for me. I respect how they practice what they preach and the class sizes are always manageable and never overcrowded.
Very happy I found this facility for the workout and the community. I would certainly recommend to athletes of all levels.

I highly recommend this gym for all fitness levels. Gil and the coaches are fantastic with regards to structuring workouts. The coaches will help you with the movements and motivate you regardless of your level. In addition: nice people at this gym and the workouts are programmed for 1 hour. Like many others, I saw my fitness take a nosedive during quarantine and decided to do something about it. Not only did CFN help me get in the best shape of my life, it provided me with a welcoming and inclusive community, a cohort of amazing coaches and connected me with like-minded friends.
As I found my footing on my fitness journey, CFN helped me along with scaled workouts and personalized feedback from top-tier coaches. As I progressed, the CFN community at-large helped push me to improve and cheered me on in my first competitions.

If you are new to CrossFit or an experienced athlete looking for a new home, CFN has something for everyone. I have been a member for years and it is the only exercise that I have stuck with. The coaches are knowledgable, friendly and are really focused on making sure athletes move well and safely.
There is no minimum fitness requirement for showing up and no one is there to judge anyone else's journey. The vibe is more " be a better version of yourself today than you were yesterday" rather than comparing yourself to others.
The classes aren't over-crowded, there is plenty of parking, and the people are really welcoming. There are lots of CrossFit boxes in the area, and hundreds of gyms, but CFN is special. Stop by and see why!

I've been coming to CrossFit Newton for 6 years and it's been an indispensable part of my fitness approach. The owner Gil does a stellar job of creating a fun, supportive environment around strong programing and encouragement. The owner makes or breaks each CrossFit. The age of attendees is 20-50 and is not just 20s doing max lifts all the time. Despite no advertising (and no sign ;) ), it's an absolutely fabulous option if you are looking for CrossFit. Stopped by here because they offer a free drop-in. I'm a moderately experienced crossfitter and have been to a few different gyms. Equipment was good, staff was friendly and it was not too crowded for a Saturday morning. KID FRIENDLY they have a playroom for a kid and there was a baby in a stroller in the gym. When the baby got fussy, the crossfit instructor held the baby so momma could finish her WOD!!! I recommended anyone of any fitness level to check this gym out.

I came to CFN after having met Gil and Jodie over a year ago. As a chiropractor I am always concerned about spinal balance, strength, and stability. To achieve this, I teach my patients that it takes more than chiropractic care; it takes complex movement on a daily basis and investing yourself in a great functional training program to realize your health potential. I was blessed to have found CFN at that time because I have found that Gil and Jodie provide the atmosphere, resources, and programming to get this done. I am continuously blown away by the thought and detail that Gil puts into the programming to get the most out of his members and to ensure real compounding results. When you couple this with the strong attention to technique and the supportive and friendly atmosphere of CFN members, anyone will be reassured that they have found a place to grow in strength and community!
On a personal level, I have the found that my strength, speed, and endurance are tested and increase on a weekly basis, which is important to keep me adjusting patients all day long and allows me to maintain a high level of fitness and meet my own health expectations. My wife, Lea, trains with me here and after only a couple of months I began to see drastic changes in her strength and coordination. Now pregnant with our first, Lea continues to train with the other pregnant and post-partum women at CFN on a modified program that Gil designs to keep her and the others in top shape for the physically and emotionally intense period of life and motherhood. Lea, and baby, absolutely love their workouts and she has found a new group of women (she calls it CrossFit Mom’s Club) just as committed to their and their baby’s natural health!
Professionally, I highly recommend CFN to my patients, because the functional movement and strength programming that is found here is like no where else I’ve seen and is one of the key elements missing from realizing a new higher level of health and fitness.
People ask me my thoughts about the intensity of CrossFit training all the time. I tell them, that when it is done safely and with sound attention to technique and detail, there is virtually no other training method that comes close to the strength and stability benefits that CrossFit provides. CrossFit Newton does just that.
