About the Club

Welcome to Crumpin-Fox Club! We're a beautiful 18 hole Golf course located in Bernardston, MA.

Crumpin-Fox Club was conceived in 1969 as the β€œfield of dreams” of David Berelson, who engaged the services of Roger Rulewich of Robert Trent Jones, Inc to locate a site that would accommodate a Pine Valley type golf course.

Under the direction of Roger Rulewich, the front nine holes were built along with extensive renovations to the existing back nine holes, the driving range and the irrigation system. Bent grass fairways were planted and the course opened in June of 1990.

Our continuing goal is to provide an enjoyable and challenging golf experience and promote the values of the game of golf.

Course was in great condition, greens roll very true . Overall a great property that’ll test all parts of your golf game. Great value for a beautiful course . Will be back again . Definitely a top ten public track in the CT/MA area.

This course is a gem, every hole was phenomenal! It was overcast and a bit misty the entire round but it didn't dampen the experience! I would highly recommend this course to anybody wanting to play a woodlands type course. Very fair and plays to your handicap well.

An absolutely beautiful well kept course. If they managed the pace of play and groupings as well as the course this would be a 5/5. For what the price is the pace of play should have been managed, it was crowded and my group waited 10 minutes at every hole. We played on 8/09/25 and it took just shy of 6 hours. 5hr and 43min to be exact. Groups were backed up at every hole. Loved the course but the pace was unbearable.

Played here yesterday and was disappointed. Slow service for pre-round lunch, driving range was mats only and they were running out of balls, no GPS in the carts, no ranger…after 6 holes I called the pro shop to ask them to send someone to find the slow group. We then saw one teenage kid go whipping around in a cart. No idea what he did because our front 9 took 2:30 and our back 9 took 2:30. I liked the course, but the experience was awful. I drove quite a distance and paid a full weekend rate greens fee with high expectations, but definitely wouldn’t go back.

An interesting layout and above average conditions for a public course. Walked off after playing 13 holes in just over 4 hours yesterday. I would recommend only making the ride out here for a midweek round. I'm unsure of the management policies but its unacceptable to have 4 groups in each hole for an entire round (well, atleast 13 holes).

One of the nicest courses in New England. Cut through the forest with lakes all over. I got paired with a couple of really nice guys celebrating a birthday and we had a wonderful day. The natural beauty of the course is stunning. Very nice layout and a great challenge. Very nice staff as well. I live in the desert and loved all the tree lined holes.

This course will test you. There are plenty of narrow fairways and forced carries. If the green isn't protected by water, then it's elevated, or both. And once you get to the dance floor the journey has only just begun. You're whole bag better be in shape if you expect to score on this course.

It's a positional course. If you're out of position it will cost you a stroke. If you're out of position with a crappy lie then it will most likely be two. it's also the kind of course where no two holes are alike. And so you'll end up hitting most every club you have in your bag. However, this is the kind of course that won't fit everyone's eye. Some of those tee shots are downright scary.

Pictured is #8. See what I mean?

I use a golf watch, so I cannot confirm that the markers are wrong or not visible because I don't notice them anymore. Seriously, a lot of the reviews on this page sound like they're coming from babies. If GPS is all that important to you, then use an app or buy a watch or, at the very least, buy a yardage book. You have options other than relying on a course you've never played and then reamed because you shot high numbers. Please. Besides, cart GPS doesn't account for elevation changes, so your score still would have stunk because elevated greens are a thing here.

The course was in good shape, (mid May, '25), as were the greens. Putts rolled true. They were firm despite the rain, so I'm thinking that the greens will firm up even more as summer goes on. The good news is they were large, except the one's that weren't.

The sand traps were a little off. Hitting out of them felt like there was a layer of sand over a much more dense and impenetrable base. I'm going to blame the recent rainy spell. Anyway, don't expect to dig them out of the traps, the play is to lay that big bounce wedge wide open.

There wasn't a lot of scar tissue from previous golfers, and the rough was a reasonable length. That is, just short enough to make finding the ball easier, and just long enough so you probably shouldn't consider anything longer than a 7i out of it. Mileage from a lie in the rough will vary as some were good, most were buried.

The range does have unlimited balls. Which as someone noted is pretty standard w/ a 3 figure green fee. Or should be. But the "matt" is not soft, and it's been really wet so the grass isn't open. It's a compromise that we have to live with, like aerated greens.

I'm not sure what some of the other commenters are talking about with respect to the staff. I found them to be friendly and helpful. Dude even walked out to the range to make sure there were balls.

I didn't make it into the club house or the pub. The bathrooms are accessible from outside.

In conclusion, it's expensive to play but the course is worth it all by itself. You don't find this kind of design variety and aesthetic just anywhere.

Great place all around... prestine golfing conditions... exceptional staff... highly recommend it.
I must have run over a screw on my way in and got a flat as a result... I had a repair kit, took off the wheel, plugged it, and the General Manager himself brought over his personal vehicle, had an air pump, filled my tire, and I was on my way... Really great people... TY
Update: another visit another great experience... highly recommend it.

I was in New Hampshire for work last week. In my quest to golf in all 50 states, I decided to find a course in Northern Massachusetts. I was lucky enough to find Crumpin-Fox, a Robert Trent Jones design. I left Manchester at 5:15 AM to arrive for my 7:45 tee time. I needed an early tee time because I wanted to golf in Vermont in the afternoon. Upon arrival, the staff could not have been more welcoming. Brian, the GM talked to me before my round and met me on the 18th green to ask about my round and my thoughts on the course. The course was beautiful and challenging. Considering all the rainfall, the course was still in great shape. I hope to return one day to play again. I highly recommend this course.

We were in town for a lacrosse tournament and the boys wanted to play golf and stumbled on the course with dumb luck. We were glad we did as the course and grounds a very well maintained. We had lunch first then played and like the food at the restaurant that we invited a few other friends that were in town to come and have dinner at the course. I must say yes it is a pricey course but it was very well maintained. The food at the restaurant was not overpriced and was delicious. Almost all of the staff were great and very pleasurable and made us feel welcome. When back in the area we will be back.

All this course has is good marketing. Was very unimpressed by my entire experience. Wow free range balls!! First of all better be! The yardage markers were borderline impossible to see in the fairways. The golf staff were all horrible and acted like they were better than others as did the majority of the customer base. Carts didn’t even have gps, no map on the score card, nothing even on the tee box to show the hole layout. Golf was just a bad experience. Moving forward to the food the chef didn’t know if it was an Italian joint or a pub. The bolognese didn’t even have a pasta specified on the menu but it definitely wasn’t a made in house pappardelle. The only good experience I had was with the non snobby and genuinely kind front of the house restaurant staff. Go play the ranch, cold creek, wachusett, kettlebrook, blackstone, highfields, cyprian Keyes, the list could continue for just all around better golf experiences all over Massachusetts.

As overpriced as you can get. $300 for two on a Friday morning. No amenities.
For that price minimum requirements are: every cart needs 4 cold bottles of water, digital displays in each cart, an easily accessible place to get food at the turn, staff to clean your clubs at the end of your round, immaculate course maintenance.
What do they have? Different style seats in the carts, the course designers name and at best mediocre course maintenance.
Don't waste your money, go to your local municipal course it'll be a far better round of golf.

My favorite course in Massachusetts and probably one of my favorite courses ever. What I like most about this course is how much each hole forces you to think through every shot. The course is brilliantly designed to give the player many different options and there are no easy or straightforward shots. I think my favorite might be the par 5 17th (first pic), which makes you split a narrow gap off the tee if you’re trying to get home in two. The small undulating greens and narrow fairways make this course a challenge as it definitely feels like a US Open Qualifier.

Probably among the best conditioned public golf course I've played in years with an engaging, diverse and challenging layout. Rivals many private tracks. I played on May 12, 2021 with the Safari Club on a fantastic layout and superbly conditioned course. With a full course of players from the Safari club, we were treated like long lost guests by the staff in the pro shop as well as the servers in Zekes Restaurant. I love this course most of all for the layout through the woods with some open holes with water features. Bring your A game as this course is a real challenge. However, it is fair and not tricky. This course is worth a drive from anywhere to play.

Earlier this season, we played Crumpin Fox with the Safari Club of Massachusetts. It is one of the premier courses in Western Massachusetts. I have played this course quite a number of times over the last 30+ years and it is in better shape now than I can remember. Over the past few years, the ownership has done a lot of work on the course, especially in the heavily wooded sections surrounding all of the holes. By thinning out the thick woods, the fairways and greens get more air and light which helps the turf. The other benefit to this is we have a slightly better chance of finding an errant shot (or 5) that has strayed off the fairway. The course can be very challenging, but always a pleasure to play. I am looking forward to going back again next season.

The Safari Club played this course on May 12th. As always, our group was treated to a special golf course that seems to improve every year. The hard work down the past few years with tree cutting had a dramatic effect on the course conditions. I played the course this fall and was very impressed with the greens. The foliage was beautiful, and the large deck over looking the 18th hole adds a nice finishing touch to the day.

Played course last Wednesday, as part of the Safari Club's annual visit here. The course was in excellent shape due to the US Open regional qualifying held there the day before. Course is a challenge, and can be a bit difficult if you don't play well. Staff was great, and the facilities are being expanded and improved. I know the Head Pro from my home club, and he and the staff are first rate. A bit of a drive to get to, but well worth the effort. I look forward to playing this course at least once per year, and twice if I can.

(2021) I recently played it again this year, 2021, as I have each year for the past 10, and am still enthusiastic about the quality of the glof course, the staff, and the physical beauty of the place. Agreat track for golf, and worth the trip to Bernardston, particularly in the Fall.

The Safari Club of Golf enjoyed another spectacular day at one of our longtime favorite golf courses earlier this 2021 season back on May 12. It's been four years since my last review so I thought it high time to bring things current.

This was the 12th year in a row we took this opportunity to have one of the best golf courses and finest golfing facilities located anywhere throughout the entire northeast at our organizations full disposal.

Over 120 members and friends took full advantage of this opportunity and were even more impressed with everything at Crumpin Fox this year than they were ever before.

The continued changes and efforts to improve the golf course and facilities from what we previously thought couldn't possibly be improved upon becomes more apparent each year. Making one feel like we have a replica of sorts to Augusta itself.

I'm a little late in getting to this review up. But better late than never, as they like to say. I'm going to encourage our members to get their feelings about this fabulous layout and facilities known as well.

Beautiful course. Horrible. Snobby . Exclusive staff. I highly recommend no one plays here. It's one of those courses that only wants to see wealthy white people on there course. Payed close to 300 for my friend group to play and while there were three old white man in t shirts I'm view one. Of my friends was wearing an Adidas golf t-shirt a manager told us we couldn't play or get our money back While he went to club house to talk to someone we sped of on the course with our carts and started on hole two cuz we payed and forget them but this is not a course I'll play again.

Played the course last week. It was my first time there in a number of years and despite the great course conditions, beautiful weather, and free range balls, I was pretty disappointed in my experience because there was no way to navigate yourself around the course since they got rid of the GPS carts. There are several doglegs and numerous blind hazards. After my round I went to the pro shop and asked if there was a yardage book or some other means to know where to (or more importantly where not to) hit your shots. I was told "no" and that the GPS was too expensive. A yardage book or just a diagram of the course on the scorecard would be helpful. I will not be returning until this is remedied and I have told many of my friends who like me have been there before and they could not believe that a challenging course like this would leave it's players so unsupported.

We played 9/13/20 , 2 groups at 2 pm twilight rate. I explained to them I had EXPIRED Groupon worth $299. Each greens fee was approximately $60. I told them I wanted to pay for 8 @ $60. The manager at the pro shop stated they only receive a certain amount from Groupon & would ONLY honor $230 for their 4some rate ! I told him, it clearly states the Groupon is worth it's face value, not what Crumpin Fox charges for a 4some! I did not want to keep others waiting (as they are severely understaffed in the pro shop!) Crumpin claims they do this to ALL expired Groupons, and are therefore cheating the consumers ! I e-mailed both Crumpin & Groupon to complain ! Also, they have too many "young kids" that don't enforce slow play penalties. We got carts 2 minutes before tee time (they were not fully charged, & 2 of them died after 7 holes) 5 hour round ! Beautiful course but not managed well !
Never got a response from Crumpin Fox, guess they only respond to people that give them good reviews !
So the response from Crumpin Fox management is that it's OK to ONLY honor 77% of an EXPIRED Groupon, when Groupon EXPLICITLY says the value is what you PAID for the Groupon, which in my case was $299. Crumpin can change their 4some rates to $ 10, does that mean they would only give me $40 credit? The bottom line is Crumpin is CHEATING the consumer on expired groupons ! And we, as the customers are out of luck ! I won't do business with companies that don't adhere to the proper guidelines !

Carts were a pain in that you could be on the edge of the fairway and it would cut out and stall instructing you to get back you entered an area that you are not allowed... otherwise course was in immaculate condition.

One of the best courses I have ever played. Loved it! Beautiful setting, awesome golf layout and excellent conditions. You have to play well or it can be a bit of a challenge, but it is a super fun course. Worth the drive for sure!!!

Went golfing here last year early spring! The back nine was closed due to casual water! Nice course just a little to hilly! Ponds are beautiful!

Great place to golf. But was also wondering if fishing was allowed at the big pond? If we dont leave a mess and dont keep any fish? That would be awesome. Thanks!

Challenging course, always in pristine condition, carts are top of the line with phone charger ports and touchscreen course navigation system. Play there are least one or two times each year, absolutely one of my favorite courses. I have played this course in drizzle/light rain, course still held its integrity. Would be worth full price, but often you can find a deal for an unbeatable value. Staff is friendly and pace of play is good.

This is just a beautiful course nestled in the hills of northern Massachusetts. It has a mixture of difficult and easy holes and 5 different tee areas for players of all levels. But while it is beautiful, you might still expect to lose 2-3 or more balls here so be prepared.

Great course ruined by poor management. 2:00 pm tee time that we couldn’t finish due to darkness. 3 hour front nine! Group playing as 6 players on back nine. No rangers, marshals or oversight on course

I got a great price on golf, because there was light play and got a discount. The course was and is always in great shape. Zeke's is a great spot for drinks and food. They also have a fire pit and a musician playing. Only negative was the service staff in Zeke's are slow and seem disorganized., but not so bad as to ruin a great day.

Course was excellent staff was rude. Starter was downright siurly that they we were 10 minutes behind time after 9. Fomnd out after the round that there was nobody behind the group behind us and they never waited for us after the 4th hole

Love this place, best course that I have played in MA. My only gripe this year is that they did A LOT of tree removal (essentially clear cutting) along some holes and I don’t understand why. Part of what makes this place great is the natural beauty of the tree lined holes...which has now changed significantly. I don’t understand why they felt this was necessary, when the layout itself plays exactly the same. It’s a real shame. Anyway, still highly recommended for the golf πŸ˜€

Played Crumpin Fox for the first time this year in July. Enjoyed it so much that I came back in September. The layout is what you would expect from a Robert Trent Jones influenced design. The course plays beautifully with not one boring hole. Well worth the drive to get here. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. Highly recommend!
