My family and I went t the YMCA for years when i was a kid. It was so different then. So family oriented. It's def no longer like that. Staff is no where as nice as they use to be. I went there specifically for spin class and it's def not what i am use to at all. The instructor i had was so not friendly. Normally when i go to a new spin class the instructor really acknowledges you. Will introduce her or himself to you and just make you feel welcomed This specific instructor was real different. I will stop here because i have nothing good to say. Skimming through the responses i can see others felt unwelcomed also specifically by the front desk. I definitely need to find a new place. The hours are also horrible. Wish i had a different experience.

The woman at the front desk was very unwelcoming and rude on Sunday. Tried to get in after buying a membership and was told to leave because the membership would not be active until after 24 hrs if done online. Went back he second time and after pursuing it again, the card worked and I was let in. Had the same thing happen to an old man before me. He paid, but since there was nothing in the computer, he was told that he's lying. Once I was done with my workout, the lady was adjusting the doors and holding one of them and as I was leaving, she let go of the door and the door slammed into my hand with its metal protrusion. Please work on training the staff to be more welcoming and willing to help or at least not be rude and hold grudges

I was there many years ago and I remember the place being unclean and unkept with even some bedbugs! I hope they have changed to to be better and clean.

I stopped in a few times while visiting family in Boston. The facilities are great and include plenty of options for everyone including some powerlifting and boxing equipment. The staff are also very friendly. I stopped in today around 10:30AM and the staff at the front desk were very helpful and incredibly nice and professional. This gym experience is just another example of why the YMCA is such a great membership!

They need to update their hours. It says opened at 6am I show up at 6:00am and it was about 20 other people standing outside waiting for the gym to open. The gym didnβt open until 20 mins later. If they canβt honor their hours what am I paying so much money for?

It's right next to where I stay, so it's easy access to a good gym. They have a pool, workout classes, and a variety of fitness equipment for all levels. Sign up is a breeze, then get started right away. Pick up their monthly activities calendar to stay in the loop.

The place has many activities for families like swimming, karate, basketball, great gym area and more. Some staff members are rude and entitled. Had one of the staff tell me to go get my child and mumbled that I'm too lazy to walk down the hall and go get my kid. She also continued and stated that one should not have kids if they can not take care of them. When I told her she was disrespectful, she told me she was the supervisor. I guess supervisor status gave her the right to disrespect people, especially parents, in front of their kids. Some employees are very disrespectful and entitled, and the worst part is that they don't see anything wrong with such behaviors. Stay away, not good for kids to hear and observe such tolerated behavior in this place.

My child was assaulted by another child with a rock, needed his wound glued shut and currently has a concussion due to neglect and lack is supervision on their behalf!
No one even bothered to call an ambulance my child was self diagnosed by a director who stated she checked him and he said his abcs Fine and he stated he was okay!
I have been out of work, my child doesnβt know his colors right now and has been in and out of doctor offices and the ER!
And the same director stated only thing they did wrong was not have an incident report ready for me! And in our meeting brings up my Facebook post talking about the situation and how they failed my son. Beyond unprofessional!!!!
The person above her also had to have a DCF report on themselves for neglect and place a staff member on leave!! ( I thought the only thing done wrong was the missing incident report!? )
My child was failed !! And they do not even care I have heard nothing but excuses ! I can not press charges on the little boy because of his age, the little boy also admitted to smacking my son in the head with the rock because my son said he had a girlfriend!!
Dorchester YMCA only cares about the money and not these children and now my son is left to suffer and Iβm stuck trying to find new locations for all my children !! They call themselves the best but yet are lying and trying to protect themselves !!

I just walked there to get some information the lady at the front desk does not look like she wants to be there, she has no energy no desire she is not answering any questions. She told me to wait while she deals with someone else who walked in after me(one of her friends.) I walked away because that is not how you are supposed to treat people.

The Dorchester YMCA has been a great experience. I joined for many reasons and from the receptionist Shante, to the spin instructor Marilyn and my swim instructor Robert all have made this journey such great experience. I went into swim with no expectations because drowning was always my fear. Robert guided me and was patient with me every class. He showed me the basics to lead me to feeling comfortable to doing all that we practiced on my own. He is really a great teacher /instructor, very positive attitude, and hands on. I continue to use his guidance whenever I'm there. Its been a joy being apart of the Y experience.

The staff are extremely knowledgeable and have years of experience in their Individual fields of expertise. Most importantly, they are dedicated, loyal, and lifelong members of our community. Thus, they understand the struggles that children must overcome in order to be successful in life. They work extremely well as a team and they have a shared vision of success for the organization as well as the community as a whole. Coach Trey, Coach D, Sensei Marvin Harris, Sensei Jerome Harris, Sensei Jerome and all of the staff work hard to create a safe and nurturing environment that is centered around teaching the whole child. They constantly go beyond the call of duty in order to meet the needs of the children in their care. It is truly reassuring and inspirational to witness this level of compassion and empathy from the teachers at the YMCA. It truly does take a village to raise a child and the YMCA has always been an integral component of this village in our community.

Saturday adult swimming lessons at the Dorchester YMCA have been a godsend for me. I was so excited to learn anything that improved my time spent in the water and have been blessed by both the challenging nature of the instruction and the peace that comes from exercising and completing the different steps. Our instructor is fabulous and I am contemplating going through an additional series once this course is done so that I can get good practice. Thank you for extending this opportunity to the community!

The best YMCA in the Boston area. Prices are affordable. The place is clean, Personal trainers are experienced and certified. They have good equipment, Zumba classes are fantastic, and it is a safe space for everyone. The staff are always in a good mood and willing to help you meet your needs. Oh, did I forget to mention there is parking available? So, if you are planning to join, please don't hesitate to do so. You won't regret it :)

This is an updated review, based on my most current experience.
The pool schedule has become extremely limited, and even on days the pool is scheduled to be open, it's not. There is no coverage if one of the guards is sick - the pool is just closed. Twice in the past two weeks, I have arrived ready to swim, only to learn that the pool is closed.
Swimming is a huge part of my pain management, and over half of my YMCA usage. There is no communication as to what is happening, or what the plan is to correct the situation. Frustrating.

The facility has updated equipment, in the weight room, a nice full size pool, basketball court, aerobic classes and has a daycare. As it pertains to the weight room, other than the previously mentioned equipment, it's terrible. The weights are frequently left out and on multiple occasions there have been face masked just thrown on the floor. The facilty is at least 4 stars, as for the weight room supervision, 1 star, 2 stars at best.
