I have only gone here once, but it was one of the best experiences! I felt so welcomed and I loved the wooden floors and the amount of natural light within the rooms.

There’s truly nothing like starting the day with a sunrise class at Down Under Yoga in Porter Square. The studio has this serene, open feel, with tall windows that frame the most exquisite view of a nearby chapel. Practicing here feels like a little piece of magic every time.
One of my favorite classes is Gregor’s 90-minute Hot Power Flow on Saturday mornings. His teaching is absolutely unparalleled—thoughtful, challenging, and grounding all at once. The combination of his guidance, the spacious room, and the calming morning light makes for the most rejuvenating practice imaginable.
Down Under Yoga doesn’t just have amazing teachers—it has the best teachers on the East Coast, hands down. Every class I’ve taken here is full of intentionality and expertise, making it a place where I can truly grow my practice. Whether you’re new to yoga or have been practicing for years, Porter Square is a must-visit for any yogi.

As someone who applied to teach at this yoga studio, my experience was deeply disappointing. While they present themselves as a studio with high standards, my experience revealed a different story. The audition process seemed less about assessing genuine teaching abilities and more about funneling teachers into their paid 300-hour training program. After my audition, I received feedback suggesting I wasn’t the right fit—which is fine—but it was immediately followed by a recommendation to join their costly training (with additional discounts) as a way to improve and “align” with their expectations.
This isn’t mentorship or genuine support; it’s a sales strategy disguised as an opportunity. The emphasis on pushing their programs makes it clear that the focus is on monetizing teachers rather than fostering authentic growth or maintaining quality.
Adding to the disappointment was the unprofessional handling of minor details. I arrived two minutes late due to an unavoidable situation and was told I missed critical context about the process—a poor excuse to shift blame and invalidate legitimate concerns about their approach.
If you’re considering this studio, be aware that their priority seems to be selling courses, not providing opportunities. I strongly recommend exploring other studios with a genuine commitment to supporting and growing their community, rather than monetizing it.
Edit: Shocked after seeing this reply. I’ve already made it clear that I have no issue with receiving feedback or not being selected. They can continue pointing out my shortcomings if needed. However, the email (attached in the photo) serves as evidence that their approach is primarily a sales pitch. When I already have a 500 hour of training from the most renowned places in India, and I have come for a job audition, why would you want to persuade me to take your 300 hour course? I gracefully accept the verdict for whatever it be, and I am ready to move on, but they want me to do another 300 hour course with them, because they want to fill their seat. They fail to understand that inviting a large number of people for auditions and then forcing them to join their 300-hour course is not an effective way to fill their seats.

Came here for a workshop a few weeks ago and had the most enlightening experience! Only at Down Under can you flow with a group of passionate yogis followed by a conversation with a Tibetan Lama. Not only was this a rare opportunity for asana but the experience was highlighted by the gorgeous studio and lobby area, vibrant community, and warm desk staff. Erran was at the front desk and appeared so serene even with a huge crowd. In fact even though it was so busy everyone there appeared joyful and happy to go with the flow. Would definitely come back!!!

Update: Down Under Yoga, contacted me to listen to my feed back, and explained more about how teachers are compensated which helped explain the situation.
I went to workshop here. It would have been ok, but they over filled the room to the point where people’s mats were over lapping. (Edit- I attended virtually but I had friends in the class in person, and I could see from the zoom it was over crowded.)

Okay not sure how this place has such high ratings. I tried their beginner monthly pack because I have friends who go often and I’m disappointed because I really wanted to like this place. I can only assume there aren’t that many other local options for this type of yoga? Anyway, the biggest issue is that they overfill the classes - it feels like the whole of Cambridge crammed into one room - to the point where sometimes, people have to put their mats in marked out spots so we’re all tessellated and packed together like sardines. It’s really quite shocking.
This wouldn’t be so bad in an outdoors environment but it’s not. This wouldn’t be so bad if they had more than one teacher per class but they don’t. It wouldn’t be so bad if everyone in the class was experienced - but that’s also not the case. What results is a really chaotic, sweaty situation where you don’t get any personal supervision or correction. You’re entirely at the mercy of the instructor’s cueing (since you often can’t see the instructor with how packed the room is) - and I’m sure some instructors are good at this, and some are also not.
It’s also potentially dangerous. People go into shoulder/head/hand stand positions and there’s no way the instructor can physically get to a student if they for some reason lost balance or fell sideways - and because everyone is so crammed together, I imagine a domino effect and serious injuries waiting to happen.
On top of all this, the place is kinda gross. I say “kinda” because it’s not bad or particularly unclean, but it can’t NOT be gross with how many people there are and considering the limited bathroom supply (I only saw one toilet, and no showers). It feels like a school locker room, and everyone’s running late for the bus.
I feel like this place charges an exorbitant amount for what it is. Maybe the high Cambridge rent means they can’t make a profit or something? Maybe they are paying their yoga instructors so much that it’s bankrupting them? I hope it’s one of those two, otherwise there’s really no excuse. What they’re doing is unfair on the instructor, unfair on the paying members/students, and just really plain greedy.
I was gave two stars because everyone has been friendly and nice.

Are you seeking a space to care for your whole self? In the age of self-care, it’s optimal to follow you heart. May it lead you to the warm, inviting community of Down Under Yoga.
The wide array of classes develops deep, profound grounding that may seem elusive in a busy city. Teachers and studio managers give fully of themselves to ensure yogis feel uplifted and supported along life’s path. It’s an honor being part of this community.

I found this studio walking by one day and have been to three of its locations and I have to say it has made my stays in boston so very nourished. Great challenging but meditative at the same time, classes, nice folks, beautiful spaces, lovely teachers, I have done yoga for 26 years and have been exposed to a lot, and this place is great!

Good first experience but a few things were suboptimal in my opinion:
-Studio: No showers [ nice to have but not a big deal especially if it's 20F outside and you're sweaty]
-Class: heated flow with G. Singleton. I had trouble hearing the instructor who did a lot of work for the camera but seemed like students physically present in the studio had no attention. The class felt extremely rushed - like cramming a yoga class on the way to the appointment for which you're already late. No time to catch a breath, to do the flow properly, feel your body. I am hopeful to try enough classes/instructors to find a good flow.

Down Under is my happy place! its where I go to challenge my mind, my body and to find inner peace. The environment at down under is what you aim for at any studio, there is a strong sense of community but an immense respect for each individual. come as a novice or an expert and you will find that every teacher can meet you where you are at in your practice. Shout-out to Erran, who is running the Cambridge studio, she makes sure that every person walking in the doors feels welcome and comfortable. I am so happy I found my place here at Down Under!

This yoga studio has been my home-away-from-home for almost 21 years now. It has changed management few times but the magical spirit has stayed the same -- it is a true mothership of Boston yoga. Excellent teachers who possess great knowledge, respect and compassion. They know when to turn it up but also when to dial it down. Namaste!

Where’s the WELLNESS ? ☹️
My first experience at Down Under Yoga was a BAD one. I was given a monthly pass as a birthday gift and was excited to try this studio, which is close to my home. Unfortunately, in the immediate weeks following my birthday I became ill with a nasty upper respiratory infection and was unable to utilize my monthly pass - but once ( before falling ill ). By the time I was well enough to practice again my monthly pass was about to expire, so I decided to reach out to the studio to let them know my situation, - in hopes of reconciling a fraction of the missed gift pass in the form of a future visit / class. I later received a voicemail & subsequently spoke with Holly from the Brookline studio, who informed me that I was welcomed to purchase more passes, if I’d like to return to the studios. The conversation felt transactional and I was put off. I expressed my disappointment at the way the situation was handled and wished her a good day.
I expected more from a WELLNESS based business and it’s unfortunate that they were so focused on the latter.
