I have come here for AI massages and I really appreciated Jeff's help. The massage is next level and I plan to continue having these. If you purchase a 30 minute massage [or longer], you receive access to the rest of the gym--and the price is less than $50 for a 30 minute session. Jeff was very warm and I am perplexed that he is in the back of the gym. That welcoming &genuine pleasantry really should greet people upon 1st step into the gym.
**Non sequitir-There is ZERO direction! You enter the building and there was no signage. I stepped in the elevator, assuming the buttons would be labeled...nope. I came out to the wrong floor, where two members were displeased that their yoga instructor was late and the door was locked. That was my 2nd impression after guessing where to go....

My experience at Equinox Boston was nothing short of excellent. The gym is always clean, with top-of-the-line equipment, and the atmosphere is incredibly motivating. The staff was always friendly and supportive, making it a great place to work out.

A special shoutout to my personal trainer, Kevin Roache, who has been an absolute game-changer in my fitness era. Kevin has a unique ability to tailor workouts to my goals, pushing me to work harder while ensuring proper form and injury prevention. His knowledge and expertise have not only helped me see physical results but also given me the confidence to tackle challenges I never thought I could. Kevin’s approach is personal, professional, and motivating; I always looked forward to our sessions. Not only is Kevin an incredible personal trainer, but he also has some seriously impressive talents. I’ve seen him smash a watermelon between his thighs; yes, you read that right! His strength and control are truly at the next level. If that’s any indication of his dedication and power, it’s clear that Kevin can handle any challenge, both in the gym and beyond.

Overall, I highly recommend Equinox Boston for anyone looking for a premium gym experience, and if you're in need of a personal trainer, Kevin Roache is the one to go to. Especially if you need that extra push in 2025. His dedication and passion for helping clients succeed are truly unmatched!

The steam room here barely gets hot and I’ve explained to them since October compared to the other locations something is wrong. But it’s still not right and it smells like a mop bucket in there. Not what I expect for this location which is the closest to my apartment. The Franklin St location has the BEST temperature steam compared to Seaport, Chestnuthill, and Avery St. they all differ

It is sad for me to write this review because I have been a member of this club for many years and loved it. I built friendships through the programming and believed this gym would always be a part of my life. However, recent decisions and changes from the corporate side, attempting to make this club like the other clubs around the world, have taken away many of the programs that made this gym special.

These decisions are not made consulting the current members. Instead of seeing the great asset this club is, corporate staff, who don’t live in Boston, are trying to make this club more in line with “the brand.” I do not fit “the brand” they are trying to sell and they don’t care if they lose my membership in the process.

Recently members who sent their kids to a very popular and dearly loved Kids Club program at this gym received an email that in 7 days the pre-school would be ending and there will be no summer camp programing.

Justification was given that the Kids Club is not part of the Equinox "brand."

Now a group of 50 parents are scrambling trying to find pre-school and summer camps.

No amount of "luxury" amenities makes up for this type of behavior. It is morally and ethically wrong.

Found a wedding band while I was working out and attempted to give it to a “coach.” He apathetically told me to bring it to the front. I explained I was in the middle of a workout and he just said “I’m going to be on the floor for another four hours.”

If I left something behind I would hope that an equinox employee would take some ownership and help to get it to the right spot.

I’m extremely happy with Equinox—the services they provide, the spacious workout environment, and the unmatched variety of equipment and classes. More than just a gym, it’s a place where I can focus on both my physical and mental well-being in a healthy way. 2025 is already off to a great start, and Equinox has also played a positive role. I’m truly grateful for everyone involved! 💕

I hope this review won’t be hidden again for any reason. As a member of 3 years, I’ve experienced both positives and negatives at Equinox. On the positive side, their well-constructed athletic training classes and excellent trainers offer rewarding experiences.

On the other hand, I recently raised a hygiene concern about outdoor shoes being worn in barre classes and was told to "mind my business." While I understand that Equinox may have limitations in addressing member-related issues, I found their communication style misaligned with what I prioritize as a member.

When I shared my experience on a relevant platform, I encountered mob-like hostility from individuals who were defensive about such concerns. I was labeled a "Karen" and an "insufferable complainer," which I believe reflects more about their behavior than my feedback.

Despite this, I stand by my words and believe this level of defensiveness and brand loyalty is worth noting. It says a lot about the culture within certain segments of the community.

I recently cancelled my membership at Equinox Sports Club Boston due to relocation, but I couldn’t leave without sharing my wonderful experience! I first joined Equinox in November 2022, and after a brief stint as an employee at Equinox Bethesda, I returned to Boston and rejoined as a member on June 1, 2024. Every moment spent at this club has been truly exceptional!

First, I want to express my gratitude to Matt Strutt, the General Manager, for creating such a welcoming and inspiring atmosphere. Second, a special shoutout to Michael Mlambo, my membership advisor, who was always there to help and make the process smooth and enjoyable.

One of the most impressive changes I noticed upon my return was the upgraded equipment and furniture throughout the club. It really enhances the workout experience and makes the environment feel fresh and inviting.

Since I rejoined, I participated in over 100 group fitness classes, and the instructors are simply top-notch! Emily Comerford’s Playground Experience class was a standout; her energy and creativity made every session a joy. Paula Fonseca’s Pilates classes were fantastic for building strength and flexibility, and I always left feeling revitalized. And Maryanne Blake’s Ropes & Rowers class was an exhilarating challenge that kept me engaged and motivated!

As I relocate to the Midwest, I’ll truly miss this incredible community. I made a ton of friends at this fitness club. Thank you, Equinox Boston, for the amazing memories and the fantastic fitness foundation you’ve helped me build. I’ll carry these experiences with me wherever I go!

Enormous equinox. So much space and so well laid out. I wish I took pictures of the yoga studio but I didn’t bring my phone to class. It was the most beautiful studio. Flooded with light. Tall ceilings and curved windows. This facility is just so enormous and they really do such an incredible job keeping it so clean. Thank you for having me!

Possibly the worst massage I’ve ever had. I explained to the therapist that I was looking for a massage addressing sore muscles from a renovation project. She attacked every muscle like it was a threat- with pressure that was severe. She would make comments about my fitness, and even asked if I had wrist pain because “you should”. I was sore for days after.

Equinox staff undermine the gym by abusing the customers. Gratuitous, hard to reverse charges are made at every exchange, sometimes without notification. When there is error, or impropriety, staff is unavailable, unempowered, or simply fails to address the issue.

You may expect to have a luxurious experience, and in good faith, pay the extravagent membership and fees, only to find that your experience is ordinary, tediously distracting, and in those ways just abysmal.

You may want to cancel within the first 12 months, but there is also a fee to cancel in the first 12 months. There is a monthly fee to freeze your account. You may only freeze your account for three months at a time.

Unfortunately, I had the worst massage of my life here. She had poor technique, and communicated very poorly (especially listening). She also showed up late and was rude throughout.

This is the first time I’ve ever left a massage feeling worse than when I arrived.

Do not book a massage here unless you are sure the individual massage therapist is at least passable… otherwise you’re likely to get the woman who worked on me!

(Worth noting: The spa desk staff were both awesome, extremely helpful, and on the ball. Thank you to them both!)

One of the BEST facials ever! We booked 2 facials for a birthday wknd. Arrival was great and we had a day pass from just the spa booking. So we showed up an hour early to relax in the sauna. We did so solo, they are divided by gender. I had the Hydra Facial with a Brighten add-on and my esthetician was excellent. The texture of my skin today is butter soft and her extractions were thorough. My guy had a renew facial with an LED enhancement, he says he fell asleep lol...anyway. great facility, pretty large. Great experience. If we lived here it would be our place for facials. Worth a booking!!

It's fine. Just fine. Standard equipment, great instructors but a terrible layout to the space. Why is there a little weight area under the stairs near the cardio equipment? You can't even stand up without hitting your head. The testosterone pit weight area is also not very well laid out. A place that big and they can't make decent use of space where people aren't constantly working out on top of each other as if we were crammed in. The upstairs is really hot. The place needs a fan everywhere. The showers are a hit or miss. It's like no one maintains any of the showerheads. I would say 70% of showers have poor water flow. Steam room has no steam. Lockers are really smushed together. And bringing a visitor is a non starter. It's way overpriced and for what? just so they can sell you more useless services. I still go sometimes but the weather has to be really bad for me to show up there.

Went for a one day trial. Found the place very pretentious, everyone working out seemed very self involved, the front desk staff was unhelpful, didn't even point out where the locker room was, no tour or information whatsoever, classes were absolutely huge with people, steam room was packed to the gills with men in towels, very uncomfortable to sit in, place overall didn't really seem that clean, I think you would find most of the same equipment at a planet fitness for 50 cents a day, there were good looking people so there's that, currently quoting $257 a month and $150 enrollment fee if you don't have a corporate or school affiliation.

I was invited to the gym for the first visit. When I arrived the person who was supposed to do the tour was not there, he did not pick up the phone. The person who did it instead was nice but just did not have the time. I was left alone without any kind of intro to the gym, body analysis, discussions about goals etc. If something like this is advertised and co workers call me for making such explicit arrangements/appointment, I would expect it to happen for the amount of money this gym costs. In total, a lot of empty promises for a lot of money.

I wish would have read the reviews before booking a service at what I believed was the Ritz Carlton's Spa. I have always had world class treatment from any Ritz Carlton that we've stayed at. What mistake they made by endorsing the Equinox Sport Club as the spa to represent the Ritz. Terrible, terrible experience at this spa. I called and asked about services that they offered online and they were unaware of all that was online. Poor service from the first phone call to the actual massage. We had to find our own way to the locker room and "waiting area". This was the first time we had ever been there. Again we are used to world class Ritz Carlton service, this was the opposite. When it came time for our couples massage two people came out and took us into different rooms. When I told them I booked a couples massage the response was we can't accommodate a couples massage....just matter of fact, no apology. WHY DIDN'T THEY TELL ME THAT ON THE PHONE! If I wanted a massage I can get that at home. We have busy lives and don't always find the time to relax together, this was time we set aside for each other. When I asked to talk to the club manager they said they would call me. I am still waiting for the call.

Overwhelmingly underwhelmed with my experience visiting equinox as part of my stay at the adjacent hotel. The front desk staff were rude and unhelpful, and the morning manager Matt had a bad attitude when asked for standard information. I was told by the staff that they only accepted cash and were unable to process credit card payments to book a squash court, which is insane in 2022 at a supposedly state of the art fitness company. The racquets they had on loan were pretty beat up so I would recommend packing your own if you want to play squash

It’s a well built gym with tons of different machines for everyone and the staff are friendly. However, they are very bait when it comes to anything related to money. They have initiation fees, pause fees, and even require a 30 day prior notice before cancellation without any notice. The first problem I experienced was when it was during the month of Ramadan, where I had to fast and with work as a student, going to the gym would be impossible. When I requested to have it paused, my account manager said that it wouldn’t be a problem. But without any notice, they just charged me with some amount. After talking to the manager they had it refunded. The second problem I experienced was when I had to focus on my education and wanted to cancel the subscription. I requested the cancellation a week prior and my account manager kept stalling and asking me random questions and when it was finally time for the next month transaction, I was connected to the general manager and was informed that my last day is a month from then. After asking my manager about why there was a transaction even though I asked for it be canceled, I never got a response again. My third problem was when I contacted customer support after 3 weeks because I’ve had midterms and was unable to follow up. I was told over and over again that the club did me a “favor” since cancellation cannot happen until after a year of being a regular. What???? Keep in mind I sent over 4 text messages and 3 emails regarding the situation and the only response I received was “it’ll be affected until __ because there’s 30 day cancellation policy” which was 3 weeks after my first request. As mentioned, very money-grabbing attitudes by the staff, which wasn’t visible in the beginning. As much as I enjoyed the gym atmosphere and my workout routine there, I will not be coming back again due to these problems.

They decided to cancel spa appointments we had make weeks in advance last minute (literally within the hour, as we were going to said appointment), then promptly hang up. That is the quality of treatment and service you can expect from this alleged “luxury” facility. Unacceptable employee and management performance for the cost of membership. I feel like I was cheated out of my money. I received a wax from the spa at there sports club location in Boston and the woman was great but had missed some spots leaving hair patches. I didn’t notice right away but called to speak with the manger to ask for a refund since I couldn’t make it in-person for them to fix and she rudely declined and said she wouldn’t refund me. I offered to send her pictures as proof but again she declined. I emailed the general manager, Curtis Duffy, to express his coworker‘s lack of professionalism and he chose to be condescending and take her side without contacting me to hear my complaint. He also continued to insinuate that it was my fault for the situation, suggesting that I go somewhere else to get my services done. As a paying customer that is beyond unprofessional. Curtis the GM was unethical the way he handled the situation that I wouldn’t even bother joining there gym.

Hands down the BEST Equinox in Boston for too many reasons to name. I frequent other Boston locations and none come close to the Avery St. location. The best part is the spaciousness -- the lobby, the locker rooms, the weights area, the cardio area, the stretching areas, the roof deck... It's amazing how much space there is compared to other locations. The towels are soft and absorbent, nothing is every broken down or in need of repair, all the equipment is in the best shape, and the instructors are very personable and motivating. For all the amenities you receive as a member, it is VERY easy to justify the price of a membership.

Certainly has everything you could want in a sports club. It’s got a ton of space and a great deal of amenities...but MAN, does this location need updating. It’s dirty, dated, and smells(!). One of the reasons you become an equinox member is for pristine condition of your club. That is just not the case here. I’m sure they know it’s time. Equinox is good about keeping these clubs on a renovation rotation. But it’s way overdue here. If they update it out of the early 2000s smelly vibe, it will be one of the best clubs I’ve ever been to. The location and space is really spectacular.

Spa reception staff is terrible. Not well trained, not polite and always unable to find booked and confirmed appts ( appts confirmed by Equinox Spa themselves!) on day of service. Also some of the trainers had an attitude that left me speechless when I asked if there was a chance to stock up the kettle bells (there was only one 14 pound and I needed two).

I recommend the David Barton as it has much better pricing, a better number of members to space ratio and very nice, helpful staff.

I've frequented the other locations in the Boston area (Franklin St, Dartmouth St, and Chestnut Hill) and this one just seems to fall short. I've provided feedback to the club, but alas nothing has come of it. While the location is convenient for getting a workout in before heading to the office, I am not sure that this particular site is worth the cost - it just doesn't seem to live up to the Equinox standard which I have grown to know and love.

I visited Equinox gym last night with my husband as a guest from The Ritz Carlton which is connected to the gym. My husband and I were encouraged to take a walk through the gym as I am a competitive athlete and was very excited to see what this gym had to offer. Unaware of their no camera policy (again we were visitors not members so we were unaware of any policies) I had my phone out to take short video clips of the gym equipment to showcase how nice the facility happened to be. As we were on our way out an employee stops us and kindly informed us that there is a no camera policy, we apologized, I put my phone away and we continued towards the door to leave. As we approached the door an angry member by the name of Joe angrily approached us and looks at me and says "you can't be taking f***ing pictures in here" then turns to my husband and says "you a**hole I know two Boston police officers and I will have you two arrested". My husband says excuse me and who are you? Joe replies "I'm the owner". BIG lie. Joe was literally Joe blow the average member at his local gym who apparently was highly bothered by an Italian man with his Black American wife taking a tour through the gym he belongs to. His disrespectful vulgarity, insults, and threats were not taken lightly. I was in fear as now days you don't know who has a gun and will use it. I ask the Equinox staff to call the police and NOT ONE STAFF MEMBER CALLED THE POLICE! After several requests for the police to be called I finally called them myself and filed a report against Joe. Thankfully EVERYTHING was captured on video. A female manager of Equinox actually reviews the video and confirmed that Joe approached us and incited this situation. Equinox did not do one thing to make me feel at ease and I do NOT recommend this gym to anyone. STAY AWAY FROM EQUINOX IF YOU ARE HARASSED OR THREATENED THEY DO NOT CARE. Extremely poor service.
**By the way there are all kinds of videos taken at this very location on Instagram.**

Really enjoyed going to this gym last summer but I can't recommend it due to a terrible experience with the management. Bassma told me I could join for 10 weeks and then pause my membership at the end of the summer. I told her up front that I would be moving back to New Hampshire to finish school. Turns out they don't do that. Total bait and switch. They will tell you anything to get you to sign up and then change the rules on you. The gym itself is nice - clean, friendly staff, all the equipment you could want. Overall good experience, until the end. I tried to work with them but they charged me a whole extra months membership even though I had moved out of state. They claimed I hadn't given them 30 days notice... You can't do business with people you can't trust. Check out Boston Sports Clubs instead.

It's a nice gym, and I liked everything about it when it used to be Sports Club LA. The Equinox people have put their own imprimatur on things, and it doesn't feel as customer-friendly as it did. I expect to cancel my membership as soon as I can figure out a good alternative.

If you want a luxurious place to work out, you arrived at the right place.
This gym has anything and everything.
Also, everybody is nice and helpful.
And the members are clean and organized.
It is just the perfect gym.

After speaking to more than four people from this gym asking about referral bonus, I just checked my account today, and there is still nothing. It has been over half a year and I'm extremely disturbed by how the management of this club misleads the members and falsely promises referral bonuses. If you are not going to give out referral bonus, please don't LIE and say you will!!!

The one star is just for some of the instructors, who are actually great

I was a member at SCLA for five years and loved every second of my membership. The place is immaculate, classes are TOP notch, and locker rooms you can actually get ready in an feel clean and presentable. While it's one of the more expensive gyms in the city, you get what you pay for, and I can basically assure you that you'll go to the gym more than you would a place that's not as nice/great classes/convenient... it's totally worth your money.

I highly suggest any classes with Alexa, Karly, and Dennis! And absolutely, drink at Blu after a workout to make up for all the calories you lost :)
