Absolutely love this dojo! My son, 7, joined this summer and even though he usually has trouble staying engaged and following directions in summer camps, at FKC he's having fun, learning to pay attention by choice, and looks forward to his training sessions. The trainers are amazing at keeping the practices structured yet always different, always new in some way. There is a lot of support for anyone struggling or unsure of what to do, a very friendly and welcoming community of mentors and students alike. After watching my son's lessons and progress I decided to join myself and am finding it a very meaningful experience of personal growth and physical fitness, and am happy to enjoy it as a family journey. Highly recommend it, no matter the age!

FKC has been a wonderful experience for my 4 year old daughter. The confidence she has gained in a short period of time is amazing. In addition to the physical part of class, she loves that they take a couple of minutes to talk about things that kids are facing outside of class like bullying, safety, and what it means to be brave. It has helped her face her fears because she knows that it’s ok to be afraid, and doing something when you’re afraid (as long as it’s safe) is being brave.

Miss Mandi and the other teachers also have a way of complimenting the kids individually. I love seeing my daughter’s face when they say her name and tell her she’s doing a good job. It motivates her and gives her such an important boost of confidence.

I’m so glad we found FKC, I hope to be a part of this family for a long time to come.

FKC has been amazing for my kids (3 and 5y.o.) - helping them learn self control, respect, honesty, and so many more core values that we believe set the foundation for them to be happy successful adults who will contribute to society. The instructors are patient and kind and hold boundaries very nicely. Can’t say enough amazing things, if you’re looking to grow your kid’s self confidence, I’d say this is the place to start! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I have been attending Family Karate Center since I was 7 years old (I am currently 18 years old). I am part of the leadership team, meaning that I help to teach the children allowing me to take my knowledge and pass it to them, I help them with drills in the dojo and teach them different techniques based on the color of their belt. All of the instructors Miss Mandi, Miss Brielle and Miss Liz are so great; they really work with you to make sure you understand what is going on in class. I really love the dojo and I would recommend it to anyone who would be interested in doing karate.

My son loves karate at Family Karate Center. He is 5 so he is a Little Dragon and already has his purple belt. He looks forward to going every week to learn new moves and skills. All of the instructors are very helpful, encouraging and friendly. I love that the schedule is flexible each week just in case something comes up and we can’t make it to our specific class, we can make it up another day. My son is not only learning self defense, but he is also learning respect and focus. We are very happy with our experience!

My son has a hard time staying focused but they are so patient with him here. Every class there are at least four assistants walking around during class to help the kids and this is absolutely the only reason my son does so well. He would get lost in the back of class without such wonderful help. Family Karate makes the classes enjoyable and he loves going every week.

This is an awesome martial art school, incredible instructors with YEARS of experience under their belt, lol. A great school that is a apart of the community and has stood here for over 40 years! They FAITHFULLY teach Kenpo Karate and the science and logic behind it, along with many effective different drills and lessons that helps improve upon what is already taught in class, like how to be think on your feat and be creative to form your own techniques and moves to defend yourself effectively should the day ever arrive. There are other schools that try to copy us, but fail miserably and unable to capture the essence of what Kenpo Karate is all about.

I joined Family Karate Center at 6 years old and have attended karate classes at the studio for almost 10 years now. Keeping this in mind, I can say with certainty that this studio has the most accommodating and approachable environment that I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. Under the guidance of instructors Miss Mandi, Miss Brielle, Miss Liz, and Mr. Wilson (among many others), I have not only reached many of my long-term goals as a karate student, but also gained many life skills as an individual and made so many friendships; and I think that speaks to how that these teachers run such a phenomenal program. They always treat their students as people, in the same way that they would treat their daughters, sons, friends, relatives, and colleagues. They create so many opportunities for all ages. They create a family.

Over the years that I have attended, I have built these relationships and slowly become a part of this big family. And I am so happy to watch our family continue to grow! As the 6-year-old getting ready for first grade has grown to into the 16 year old who drives herself to high school, karate has always been there. For that reason, I will forever have a place in my heart for Family Karate Center.

We have been a part of the Family Karate Center Family for 14 years now. We have loved the professionalism, kindness, and absolute dedication of everyone here. They have helped both of my children through some tough bullying issues while maintaining that violence is not an answer. They have taught them confidence without arrogance, kindness with no boundaries, strength without dominance, patience without end, and love beyond measure. I am so very grateful and happy that they took a chance on a 3 year old little boy and a 9 year old girl and continue to love and support both even though only my son attends classes still. Hands down the best place in the world for your child to grow and learn!!!

I started at FKC 25 ish years ago at age 4, trained consistently until I was about 18, and then transitioned mostly to a teaching role while I attended college. I now am more of a social presence than a practicing martial artist, but my love for FKC and the people there is stronger than ever.

The commitment to the process of learning as well as personal and professional development by the instructors at FKC is second to none. Mandi, the head instructor, is the kindest and most genuine person you will ever meet. She lives her motto of "teach every class as if it was your last." Each student in class is special to her, and she will go above and beyond to provide a positive and worthwhile experience. Beyond that, she is a highly accomplished martial artist who's speed, strength, and technique are unmatched. Honestly, all of the staff and instructors at FKC are best in the business. You really do become family at this studio.

If you're a parent looking for a fun, confidence building experience for your child, this is the place. If you're looking for an activity to build your child's discipline and focus, this is it. If you're an adult looking to learn how to defend yourself in an unpredictable world, this is it. If you're someone who's just looking for an activity to stay in shape and get involved in a fantastic community, this is it! I could go on and on, but I promise you, FKC has only gotten better over the 40 years they've been in business. Try it out!

I had always wanted to learn a martial art, but as an adult, I figured the time had passed for me to learn. My children began taking classes at Family Karate Center a few months ago and really love it, so I decided I would begin in the teens/adults class too! I’m so glad I did. It’s fun, engaging, a great workout, and as a former college athlete, this gives me something to really train and work for again; it’s helped me find that competitive spirit to push myself beyond what I thought possible again! Beyond just the fun of it, I’ve been so thoroughly impressed with the instructors here at FKC. As an educator myself, I so value communication and an appreciation for students who ask questions and seek to better themselves; the instructors at FKC feel just the same way. Miss Mandi has answered every question that I’ve asked of her in such depth—even pointing me in the direction of movies to watch that feature Kenpo karate and literature to read on my own. I think, though, my favorite part of FKC is how my instructors—Miss Mandi, Miss Liz, and Miss Brielle—have made me feel so welcome and included despite the fact that my belt rank is five or six ranks below most of the people in my class (there are a handful of other white belt beginners too, so there’s no anxiety of really being “behind” or anything) and being one of the oldest in my class (I’m in my thirties). My fellow students embrace working with lower belts/beginners too, and they’ve all been so patient and kind. I was even blown away by Mr. Wilson, the owner and a well known and well respected martial artist, who took time out of his day to call me personally to welcome me to his dojo and to Kenpo. Really, this place is amazing, and my only regret is that I took so long to finally begin my martial arts journey!

I’ve been coming to Family Karate Center for about 8 months now, as a mid-30s adult, and I love it. Recently, though, I expressed to Miss Mandi, the Chief Instructor, that I was hoping to find a way to continue learning Kenpo, but at an even faster pace, while also finding a way to make the training more physically demanding and an even better workout. She was very receptive to the idea and the next day I got a call from Mr. Wilson, the FKC owner and 9th-degree black belt. Though his schedule was already full, Mr. Wilson offered to take me on as a private-session client where he could really push me the way I wanted to be pushed. I had my first private session with him yesterday and LOVED IT. He tailored my lesson to what I was asking for—a sweat-through-my-Gi workout and a focus on new techniques in a one-on-one setting with the focused precision of a martial artist of Mr. Wilson’s caliber. (Truth be told, I think I’d pay just to sit and listen to Mr. Wilson talk about Kenpo; his knowledge of and passion for Kenpo are boundless.) Needless to say, I am very-much looking forward to my next session with Mr. Wilson!

My son started attending classes at Family Karate Center when he was in 1st grade. I was very impressed with how kind and patient the teachers were with my young child. Under their training his confidence grew as well as his skill. Karate has become a positive part of his life. He is currently a junior black belt who is going into his 10th grade year of school and his 10th year of karate. The instructors are knowledgeable and encouraging to help students reach their goals. The staff embody a family atmosphere - students can be part of the Demonstration Team, who perform locally showing their karate skills; teen students can join the Leadership Team, which includes teaching the younger level classes. My son has had nothing but a positive experience at Family Karate for the last 9 years! We looked into several places when my son wanted to start karate, and after looking into various karate centers, and hearing so many other people recommend Family Karate, we signed him up here. We couldn't be happier. All of the staff are wonderful, particularly Miss Mandi and Miss Liz. The way they communicate with their students is amazing. Outside of teaching and guiding students through each belt and the interactions the kids have, they have great group conversations about respect, self-discipline, kindness etc. If you happen to have a specific issue with your own child, they are wonderfully receptive and will try to incorporate the issue into their group discussions in a natural and fluid way. They don't just work with their students, they work with families. Extra kudos to them for their skillful interactions with student with different needs. We couldn't be happier that we chose Family Karate. They've made a great impact on our son and on us.

They remember all the kids names and work with each one individually as needed. The kids love earning stripes and their next level belts. I must say... Family Karate Center is such a great place. Especially if you are looking for confidence, self discipline and a family orientated staff on top of learing from the best Kenpo instuctors around with no run arounds or questions unanswered. Never will you get " because thats the way it is" as an answer! when you ask a question you GET a real answer about this art and how it works for you as an Individual or your kids. Many students think base techniques are what you learn, but if one sticks with it they learn that NO... its just a base, and all the "what ifs" to those techniques are in the near future of learning this awesome system. A must for anyone looking to get in shape and learn self defence! A system that WORKS! Hope to see some new fellow students in the near future!

I’d been going to karate classes here for give or take 8 or 9 years. Everyone there is very supporting and friendly. It’s a great place to go in, learn something new, exercise and make some friends. I’d say it’s a good idea for anyone of any age to take karate, especially here.

Recently I haven’t been able to make it to classes, but that’s out of being in college. When I do come home with some free time, I do my best to come in- albeit sporadically. The people here make it very easy to catch up and make some more progress. A nearly seamless transition between not coming in for a while to getting back on the horse.

I’m not great at giving reviews and this is not as eloquent as I thought it’d look, but I truly believe that the instructors, helpers and students at the Family Karate Center are reason why I grew as a person. It’s not just a hobby or something to fill free time, it’s a way to meet good people and make new friends.

Family Karate Center is one of my absolute favorite places to be! Miss Mandi, Miss Brielle, Miss Liz, and Mr Wilson are amazing teachers and have such passion for karate and their students! I’ve learned karate for 13 years and I’ve also learned countless life lessons like self discipline, respect, and confidence. I couldn’t be more thankful for FKC and highly recommend it to people of all ages!
