Special place. In a great spot on the corner of Hanover. The instructors are so caring and welcoming. Came as a guest and the owner asked me what my name was and if I had any injuries. Has remembered my name every time I’ve come back.

As a former collegiate athlete, I really struggled to find a workout routine that gave me the same drive and purpose I felt from my sport. After some time away from consistent fitness, I found Format—and to be honest, I was nervous to start. But I pushed myself to show up, and I’m so glad I did.

I’ve fallen in love with everything about this place—the energy, the sweat, the instructors, and most importantly, the personal growth I’ve seen and felt since walking through the doors. As someone who's very tall and sometimes uncoordinated, I never imagined I’d be signing up for multiple barre classes a week… but here I am, and I love it.

The HIIT, strength, and mobility classes bring me back to my athlete days in the best way. The variety keeps me engaged, the instructors push you with kindness and purpose, and the commitment to excellence is real. Format gave me back a part of myself I didn’t realize I was missing—and that’s why I’ll keep coming back.

I absolutely love Format! The combination of barre, strength, and HIIT classes has pushed me to new levels, and I’ve noticed that success here translates to crushing other gym classes. The trainers are incredible—they don’t just guide you, they coach, motivate, and genuinely care about your progress. With their support and a solid diet, I’ve seen major improvements in my life. Format isn’t just a gym; it’s a game-changer!

Talia is what makes group exercise truly amazing! She has an incredible talent for making every class feel personal and engaging. She remembers everyone’s name, offers thoughtful adjustments to keep your body safe, and cheers you on every step of the way. Her positive energy is infectious, and her hilarious stories always keep the vibe light and fun. Talia knows how to push you just enough to help you grow while making sure you feel supported and confident. If you’re looking for motivation and a community vibe, her classes are where it’s at. Highly recommend! *every teacher here is amazing, and you can expect the same high-quality experience with all of them!

It's been a month since I joined FORMAT and it has been nothing but a fabulous experience so far! The HIIT & Strength classes are amazing but the Barre classes are my favorite. All the instructors are very well trained and help you keep momentum going throughout the class. I don't see myself going to any other gym as long as I'm in Boston!!

Best place to workout in Boston hands down. I started going with class pass and ended up becoming a member I loved it so much. Every instructor is amazing. Great variety of HIIT, strength and barre classes. Super challenging but still manageable for all fitness levels. You really get to see progress too which I love

The greatest girl gang led gym in Boston! I’ve been coming to format for almost 2 years now and I can’t say enough good things about all of the instructors, staff and class styles. The instructors are hands on and so motivating, I leave every class feeling so confident and strong. By far the best way to start or end your day. So thankful for the sense of community this gym brings to Boston!

Obsessed with Format!!! It is such a special place, the instructors make you feel totally welcome and are super inspiring! They also make me laugh at least once a class 😆

I love how challenging the classes are. They are low impact and high intensity and I don’t see myself ever going anywhere else! Definitely give it a try, and then keep going. They will whip you into shape!

Amazing! My happy place!
I joined this studio a few months ago and I am still in love with it.
I tried different studios in the neighborhood and there’s nothing that feels more challenging, more complete and more satisfying. Classes are great and ALL teachers are amazing.

I’ve been coming for almost 2 years and this gym has always felt like a second home — even after moving away from Boston and being virtual! My first class was HIIT with Caitlin and I’ve been hooked since. I love all the difference style classes they offer (strength, barre, HIIT, HIITBarre) and that each instructor has their own unique style of teaching but always make you feel comfortable, strong, and motivated. Every class I join (in person or virtually) the instructors always cheer you on, encourage you to push yourself, keep you accountable and always have you smiling or laughing. Joining format was one of the greatest things I’ve ever done!! 💛

Format is a simply the best fitness studio in Boston! It’s the perfect balance of challenging workouts and supportive community. The Strength and HIIT Barre classes are my go-to favorites, thanks to Thalia and Caitlin who motivate me throughout to get my best workout possible. The studio is always clean and well-equipped, and I live for the amazing playlists during workouts. What truly sets Format apart is the sense of community among classmates and instructors, making every session uplifting and motivating. Format is also super fun and I’m often laughing throughout my workout because Thalia is hilarious. Look no further, Format is it.

Amazing local gym in North End. Classes are a 10/10, and the staff (and community) are super friendly and welcoming. Classes are 50min and definitely jammed packed, so I always feel stronger in a way I haven't found at other places.

If I could give Studio FORMAT a Tony Award I would and for me that is the highest compliment I can give to anything. FORMAT is not just a place to go and workout. It is a place of belonging, acceptance, laughter, friendship, and one of the best communities I have ever been a part of. And you get stronger each time you go. Do not walk, run to format. You won't regret it.

It’s just not true that the studio is soundproof, we can clearly hear the words you’re saying while inside a different building across a busy street with the windows closed. I can sometimes still hear it through earplugs. Would love to know how you’ve responded “as best you can” to the many noise complaints you’ve received as the noise level has not changed the entire time you’ve been in business. You would easily run a gym and be a good neighbor if you turned down the volume of your stereo, we can’t understand why you won’t do it after all the complaints you’ve gotten. You’re not respecting our neighborhood, you’re making many people miserable and you just don’t care.

I love my workouts at format. The instructors all have their own style, which makes it fun to take any of their classes. The thought of being in a full class is intimidating, but it never feel that way: Rather; motivated and supported to do my best. I appreciate that the instructors provide guidance on how to actually do the workouts properly so you can be successful. No matter your level, it’s a really fun and tough workout.

I loved everything about my first Strength class. The energy Thalia brought was exactly what I needed in the morning and I was pushed to try my best. Not only was she motivating but funny as well. Will definitely be coming back and trying out the different types of classes they offer. Really glad I found this place.

This place has ruined my living situation in Boston. Ever since they opened, I am forced to wear noise cancelling headphones during their hours of operations. I wake up and immediately hear their stereo blasting + instructor repeatedly counting down on their headset at 7AM! This noise comes through my closed windows (over the sound of traffic and construction) and I can often feel the bass in the floor. I do not get any peace or quiet until 7PM when their last class ends. It is mind blowing that this business chose to set up on the quietest part of the street and blast their music from an old building without making any soundproofing upgrades. There is absolutely no need for you to make this much noise. I can only expect the problem to escalate during when the summer when you believe you can open your doors/windows for ventilation.

Format offers the best high touch/high quality barre, HIT and strength classes in Boston (and yes maybe the universe). I love the HIT/barre combo as I find it a well rounded workout. The owners care so much (they are also teachers) and are building a community within the studio. All of the instructors are top notch and are true "teachers" which is very important especially when it comes to barre. If you are ready to change your body and life go try it! Hint, if you have never done barre give it at least 5 classes...trust me you will be hooked.

The best and most rewarding workout studio I have found in the city. The instructors here take the time to get to know you on a personal level, and challenge you in a way that feels empowering. Also — don’t discount barre as an easy workout! Format Barre is athletic; high intensity and low impact movements. Book a class here ASAP!

I started doing FORMAT's strength & HIIT classes 3-4 times a week over a month ago, and I actually come home from each class so pumped and excited! Thalia, Jess, and Caitlin are all so positive, empowering, and encouraging. I have pushed myself harder than I ever have before and I am already seeing awesome progress. I highly recommend this studio if you want an energized, fun class with instructors who really believe in your full potential!!
