Despite all the negative reviews I decided to press forward as I have been a member of gold's gym on and off for 20 years. I moved to the area hoping to tour the facility and or workout. The front desk did not know what to do with someone in this situation and had to call management, Management's answer was unless you have a pass it'll be $20 to workout. That tells me they do not want any new members that is insane in this day in age. I have been going to the gym for over 22 years and have never paid for a trial membership at least for a day sometimes up to a week. I am not looking for any freebies and literally wanted to sign up if the gym that met my needs. I went down the road to a.gym to sign up tonight. If you are like me and don't know if you should believe all the negative reviews just go in there and within seconds you'll know exactly what I mean. It's not about the $20 it's just a horrible taste in my mouth my suggestion is stay away

Went for a trial, the front desk assistant was really nice but didn’t liked it because the gym was dirty. It has the basic machines, weights, etc.

awful management, they are intentionally trying to screw your over. go to planet fitness down the road, nicer people and significantly cheaper or even just run outside, anything to avoid these people.

This gym is the best. The staff is very cool and friendly. The manager is amazing and does his job well. Very laid back not overly crowded. They make you feel comfortable. Good energy through that gym. Would definitely highly recommend it. I'm not a big fans of gyms but this one is the real deal.

Had the opportunity to take the Thursday morning 8:30 spin and workout class. At first I thought, 30 minutes of spin wouldn't be very much.... I was wrong.

The instructor Kristen walked in and I just knew she means business. She definitely has ridden professional but don't let that scare you, she works hard to keep everyone involved no matter their skill level.

Music fit perfectly and she took you along each step of the ride flawlessly. I was happy to be finished after 30 just dripping in sweat. I thought the 30 minute floor workout would be a nice recovery.... But she pushes you there too. I felt great leaving the class and felt even better the next day when I could feel the spots I pushed hard in the class.

This is a class you have to try, you'll come back I know I will.

Great gym! Spacious, clean and equipment is up to date! Staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. Julie, Danny and Billy really know how to run a gym.

I went in at two different times to ask about how much it cost to go to the gym and each time the person at the front desk said they could not tell me the price. They said they needed to contact a sales manager. When I asked about a free week special that I saw advertised they said their system was down and they couldn’t tell me anything about it at that moment. It would take some spectacular event to make me ever go in this place again.

Where do I even start??!
As a former personal trainer, I can be very picky when choosing the right gym to train in. I can honestly say this gym is the BEST! I already had a great feeling when arriving because the location is perfect and extremely close to my office. Julie greeted me upon my arrival with not only a big smile, but was very eager to assist me with all my questions!
She walked me over to the group exercise room, first. There are a wide variety of classes offered, challenging for every level athlete. The weight room is very clean and some of the Nautilus machines count your reps for you.........AWESOME!!!
Julie answered all the questions I had and assured me this facility would be the right fit for my fitness goals:)
Thank you Julie! Your warm smile and enthusiastic energy sold me and I am very happy I decided to join Golds Gym in Reading!

Not a great place to work out. Owner is shady and not pleasant to work with. The gym is dirty and has issues with a leaking roof. Would strongly recommend going to Boston sports club over this gym. Bsc is way more affordable, clean and comes with better amenities. Again, owner is not a nice guy. He def looking to take your money and give you nothing in return.

I wouldn't even give this place one star! Same horrible experience cancelling membership. I finally had to go to my bank to stop payment, cancel my debit card and order a new one. Ridiculous. Would NOT recommend.

GOLD GYM aka GOLD DIGGERS

Avoid this place!Once you sign ANY papers with them ..membership ,or even month to month they will tap your wallet and when you try to cancel your membership, they will make it next to impossible to get away. They have this certain type of contract that basically doesn’t give you any rights as a customer.I signed this paper with them, told them clearly that im here for 2 months only and then I move out of state. They took my credit card number and kept charging me even after I moved out of state. And now this agency is calling me every month saying I owe them monthly pay!Its been a year already and they still call me .
I read a review about this same issue.But went anyways,and now I regret !!
Please dont go to this place!!

DO NOT sign a contract with this gym. Employees at this gym blatantly lied and misrepresented the contract. Was told by employees that the contract was non binding and could be cancelled at any time. Nonetheless, the company has charged nearly $300 more than what was verbally agreed upon (it has only been 3-1/2 months!). When confronted, employees refuse to help and instead claim that this is an issue to be taken up with an outside billing company. Additionally, the location’s manager never seems to be working during normal business hours & thus cannot help to resolve the issue. Will make sure to dissuade everyone I know from signing up for this gym.

The personal training is some sort of scam. Signed up for a 3 month membership, never discussed any other length of time. They made it a 1 year membership with a huge down payment that was never mentioned. Scam, don't recommend.

A decent amount of machines, a really small space, poor weekend hours, and a dirty/grungy environment. If it wasnt for the fact that it has a bench press and squat rack you might as well go to planet fitness

Truly the worst customer experience I have ever experienced. I had to call multiple times to try and get incorrect charges refunded and I kept hearing the same excuses of how the manager was away or they would call me back later. I finally just called the Arlington store to speak to the district manager who offered no apology and just payed the ridiculous fee to cancel my memebership. I wouldn’t recommend this place to my worst enemy- the facility isn’t even that great and the staff are clueless! The entire time I was a member the steam room was broken and no matter how many times I mentioned it to the front desk it was never fixed. Go anywhere else!

Be careful of this place. Went in for a trial. They gave me a tour of the gym, which is very nice. Good equipment and access to sauna and steam room. However, they then tried to rope me into a 12 month contract then and there at a rate of $59.00 a month, with a $200 signing fee, a $49.00 processing fee and a one time annual subcharge of $38.00. There was also a clause in the contract that stipulated they were at liberty to change the monthly rate if they wanted to. If I had signed I would have had to pay $308.00 up front,. plus $59.00 for rent every month. After pushing back on the deal the salesman began knocking charges off. By the time he was finished, the only thing he was going to make me pay was the $49.00 processing fee, and first months membership fee, which he had knocked down to $49.00, $108 total. Obviously this was the usual rate and they had simply sized me up and were trying to gouge me early on. I ended up walking out. Overall. good equipment and rather empty because only cult followers of fitness will pay the sums of money necessary to become a member at Gold's.

Scam artists. They say they are signing you up for a month to month membership and sign you up for a 12 month. no option to opt-out and it auto renews. Disgusting gym and business practices to match.

Terrible experience dealing with the gym. My girls friend and I signed up under the understanding that we would be on a month to month membership, due to the fact that we would not be living in the area in 4-6 months.

Well it turns out they entered it in as a 12 month mombership anyway! Even after calling over a dozen times, leaving my name and phone number to be called back AND being told by management that it was all set and both memberships would be cancelled immediately, nothing has happened and I was charged AGAIN today.

On top of all that, because they supposedly couldn't charge my credit card, which they did, I got hit with an 80 dollar club charge. Even though I was told they were refunding it, 2 months later still no refund! Called again today and got the same "we'll call you back" response I've gotten every time.

Awful customer service and apparently just taking people's money is what they're all about at Golds.

I have moved to a new address far away from Reading. I've been trying to cancel my membership due to distance, but in order to do that I have to pay insanely large amounts of cancellation fee, that it's actually cheaper to run out my contract.

Never sign a contract. It's not like they have drastically improved the facility since Reading Athletic Club... it's the same place with different name.

Think twice before you sign that contract. Do yourselves a favor and just walk around the lake Quannapowitt.

College students beware. When you freeze your membership, the 12-month contract is reset. Now even if I cancel in January (13 months after I joined), I will have to pay an insanely large cancellation fee for breaking my contract, something the employees never explained when they offered their "college student special discount." READ THE FINE PRINT OF THOSE CONTRACTS. Trust me; the employees have never have.
