I was suprized in my first time in the pool. In the locker room there were some naked old people coming around like to demonstrate their nuditiy. It was so ugly to see them in a public pool. Trust me and don't allow that.
Thank you Jim

I have been going to the YMCA for a long time, though recently reactivated my account after finishing school. There has been no AC all summer, which seems like a safety concern. When I called and asked when the AC would be back, I was told “in a few months”, or essentially when the hottest months of the year are over. Also in the summertime, there is far too many children in the gym. I nearly hit a kid with a very heavy weight because they were fooling around on equipment next to me. The staff watching the children was talking to other people and not watching the kids. Lastly, the power went out (7/31), while I was on the stairmaster. While YMCA can not control the electricity, they did not even check to see if everyone was ok (this was the same staff member who wasn’t watching the kids) I (along with others) could have gotten injured on the machine and it was not a thought in the staffs mind.

They offer great rates for seniors!! There is a cold pool and a warm pool. Swim time is limited in summer because of camps. ALWAYS Lots of long hair strands in the pool and women's shower floor. There is no requirement for people to put up their hair. They don't use the nets throughout the day to clear the hair. Maybe too Kid friendly! When I go to swim laps, kids play in the lap lanes. The parents, nor the lifeguards tell them to go to the family swim side. I told the lifeguard about the kids and they told me that I could tell the kids to move. The kids argued with me 3 times and stayed in the lap anyway. How is this my job? The Shrewsbury YMCA has a sign by their pool that clearly states the swimming rules. Maybe Greendale YMCA could put a sign at the Alden pool. The kids don't go over in the cold pool. The Shrewsbury YMCA is also immaculate. There were people cleaning the women's locker room while I was there. I have to give the Greendale YMCA commendations because they cleaned the shower curtains or brought new ones right after I posted my review about the black mold. However, they didn't see them all right next to the shower curtain. I guess I should have showed a picture of that too. On the upside I had a really nice calm swim on a Saturday afternoon!!! 🤩

WARNING!! They won’t cancel your membership when you ask them and will continue charging you. I called and asked them to cancel my membership and I was told I was all set. Then a couple months later I noticed i was still being charged. I then called again and was told that they don’t let people cancel with out them filling out paper work so then I had to jump through hoops and fill out paperwork to finally get my membership canceled.

Huge facility in decent condition with lots of great programs, features, and resources. YMMV depending on what you use it for, but my experience with private swim instructors, life guards, and pool facility (Alden family pool and changing rooms) has been excellent. Everyone I've interacted with has been great.

Ive gone here for years, its a very good gym. They provide tons of classes, the pool and hot tubs are taken care of , etc. I noticed a lot of negative reviews based off of WHO attends the gym… thats not in the staffs control and you cant expect an overarching amount in a fitness center that people tend to use recreationally. Whats also not in the staffs control is wait time on machines… its a gym. Its gonna happen at Crunch or Planet or any place. Sometimes waits happen. Overall everyones super friendly and its great for what it is, which is an establishment where people can exercise. Thank you :)

If you are joining this gym for the sauna, don’t bother. It’s constantly down. And when it is working it is little more than a warm room. They need to turn the temperature up.

The young girl in front was so mean and rude. I came in with my family for swimming day on August 13 at around 6:15pm. I came to her asking how to cancel my swim lessons and she is immediately gave me an attitude. The whole conversation she was so rude and disrespectful, to be honest i really dont know what did i do wrong to be treated like this ? Why is she so rude? She making me feel so uncomfortable and not welcome. The owner please watch the footage you will understand. For someone who is work at the front desk and deal with customers this behavior of her really unacceptable and no wonder why you losing customers .

This is the first month attending the Greendale branch. We love the pool as it is very convenient for the kids. Today, I visited the kid gym and i was very sad to see very damaged and old floor foam carpets , gymnastic equipment and toys , etc. Its very important for children to exercise specially in states with very cold winters. Kids deserve a nice place to enjoy. I have been in other countries and kids areas are new, clean and innovative. I undestand that it may be a matter of funding but even parents can volunteer to participate in cleaning and restorations campains or fundraising. We could also donate toys ,etc. I am sure management is doing their best, I hope they have in mind this problem.

I started to come to this branch for 2 months already, and here are my initial thoughts:
PROS:
1. Unlimited access to classes
2. New equipment spin bikes just came in
3. Never had issues with parking, although it is always teetering on being full towards the evening
4. Staff has been helpful
5. Prices are fair, if you attend couple of group classes a week
6. Lots of people in the gym (if you are a socialite, this might be a good thing)
CONS:
1. Locker rooms can be more clean
2. Lots of people on equipment and crowded at times (if you are introvert, this can get overwhelming).
3. Price starts to not be worth it, if you don't attend a couple of group classes a week.
VERDICT:
For the price and the amount of times I go for group classes, going to the Y is worth it for me. The place can get nutty at times, but if you just go straight to the locker room and to the group class, it isn't that bad.
The lockers do feel pretty dirty and the pools have been closed down because of it being dirty. I haven't tried the pool yet (and don't intend to!), so your mileage may vary.
Coming here isn't some luxury gym (nor should it be), but for the price and ease of parking, helpful staff, and unlimited classes, I think this is worth it.
TIPS:
* You can sign-up for 1 week FREE trial to test the waters. You can try any classes and see if it fits. If you do decide to signup as a member, they waive the joining fee!
* If you have a spouse, they can be added to your plan and it would be a discounted price.
* Make sure to download their app. It is very easy to use and you can signup for classes in seconds.
* Depending on your insurance and financial situation, you can get discounted (or free!) membership. Make sure to ask for that in the front desk. They will guide you through it.
Good luck!

I've been going here for two months. They don't do a good job cleaning at all, and you're going to be surrounded by sick children and teens who don't clean up after themselves.
All could be forgiven if it wasn't so OVER CROWDED. I am not sure how it is legal to sell me a membership when you are already 200 people over capacity.
This membership is not worth the money. You will be sick every other week and you will never get to use the equipment you want to use.

It’s fairly good.. the weight area is always CROWDED (they should have a women’s section) & the basketball gym hours are so odd and don’t have times for older teens 18-21 adult gym is very early. It be nice to have evening hours and weekend hours - it’s more pickleball focused.

I cannot say enough about the Greendale YMCA and their staff that I have, throughout the years, had the pleasure of interacting with and trusting with not just my health as a two-time triple negative breast cancer survivor, but my overall well-being as a person. They continue to maintain a safe, inclusive, and comfortable environment for everyone, and have, even if unbeknownst to them, given me the faith to believe the world is changing, and in the right direction. It is hard to stand up for what you believe in and for yourself in general, but the Y and the pillars of strength that are the wellness staff, that make this place what it is — not only, but especially Jill, John, Heather and Geoff — that ensure accountability, uphold the policies that necessitate a safe environment, work tirelessly to support their members and ensure they are heard and validated, has changed not only the world at large, but my own, and thus, my outlook upon it. I love you guys.

I came into get a 1 person adult membership and found this fantastic place. They have an indoor track a ton of machines an area for old school strength training that has squat racks kettle bells pulling ropes free weights stretch pads yoga mats punching bags sledge hammers ECT... Also huge fitness rooms for classes that are clearly scheduled outside of the doors. An Olympic sized pool well a really big pool if not Olympic, Lookerooms with a sauna and showers plus showers next to the pool that you are required to use prior to entering the pool which is "nice". A full sized basketball court with leagues. They are all about family fitness and fun and every employee I had interaction with was helpful with excellent customer service skills. I think Tony was the Manager on duty and he helped me to sign up for a discounted price he was great. I wish I had got the young lady's name as I was leaving because she was extremely helpful and Finished the sign up process with me ( I didn't know I hadn't ) inorder to get a pass for the next few days while I wait for my review to be over. It's a little pricey for 1 adult but I think a great deal for families especially large ones.

A good will shout out to this YMCA. They have been plagued by a series of circumstances that have left many members grumbling in dissatisfaction for many months. Today marked a comeback with all amenities up and running. If it weren’t for the fantastic staff I would have left long ago. They deserve a Y they can be proud of. Today , you got that! Rude staff! Most of the staff are always looking for things to complain about, I been given snide remarks many times, I Been told I need meetings to address certain topics when all I’m trying to do is Work out ! Makes for an uncomfortable and hostile environment for no reason . Been told two different things by different staff about basic policies and procedures. This place has potential but some of the staff and their processes need to change . The unprofessionalism here is unreal, I never seen a gym operate like this before . This place is like high school , very clicky and if someone doesn’t like U for whatever reason they try to make your experience bad here . I see other reviews that share my same concerns. who ever looks over these reviews should re look at their staff approach to people who just want to go to the gym and relax ! Also the child watch is so /so. My oldest son isn’t very well liked by staff in there and gets kicked out within minutes of starting and this has happened too many times to count yet I’m supposed to pay an extra fee for a service we can’t even use. I been to other child watches before and they never complained once , so it’s this particular gym . A staff named John brown is Rude and demanded on more than 1 occasion in order for my son to go back to child watch I need to meet with him first in person even against my comfort ! Mean while There’s nothing that can’t be addressed by phone or email. before John brown came into the picture sending my child to child watch was never like this . Again , makes for a very hostile , stressful environment! Sad because the gym is supposed to be a place u go to destress not cause u stress! The processes and certain staff in place make this gym not even worth it. I don’t want to be contacted by a staff who works here again , I’m a member not an employee! no one helps or changes anyways just looks for ways to benefit themselves . I wrote plenty of details in this review . Do not call me !!

I took my kids to Shore Park Beach today, and we had a great time! But I was also disappointed. At around 4 o'clock today it seemed like one of the lifeguards was left alone, with what seemed like over 100 people in the water and much more than that in the grass! The poor lifeguard was trying to maintain the beach, but everyone's life was at risk! The lack of support and consideration for safety of patrons AND staff, from whoever the supervisor is here, is disappointing and unacceptable. Kudos to that lifeguard for doing her best to manage the awful situation she was put in by management.

I Like this YMCA. The staff is friendly and the management staff are very helpful. Just one thing u should have the family time for the gym. It should be a age limit for the more smaller kids that almost get run over by the teenagers and even older gentlemen. 🙏 Besides fighting for a corner at the gym this facility is Awsome. Thank You Staff 🎉

With respect to all negative reviews, I joined this branch in 2008 and coming here since, if we all agree with this fact: "a perfect place(Gym) does not exist" then we can have a better judgment. I strongly believe 90% of the staff are good people, members are friendly and The Y is place I can go with my family and enjoy working out. I will give them five star because they are trying hard to be five star. Hopefully in near future.
Thanks and happy working out.

The summer camp here are a scam. I went to the camp there when I was 14. They don’t have any age appropriate activities for teenagers. When u arrive at the camp the kids are put into groups based on football teams. Throughout the day you’re outside doing activities unless it’s ur day to swim or go to the water park. Us teens don’t do ANYTHING I’m being fr. Basically the staff sit outside on their phones not even paying attention to us. I was so bored there they don’t care about the children there they’re there for the money.
The after school program is corrupt. There’s a bus that will pick elementary and middle schoolers up from the school each afternoon they go to Bancroft middle to pick up another set they they would go to the Y. When u arrive there they offer the kids snack and then after that there no real schedule. The older kids are off doing their homework while the younger kids just misbehave. Us older kids have homework and they can’t provide teens with their own room. Teens are either middle schoolers and the elementary children are somewhere else. After an hour goes by we all head upstairs for activities and they are petty. The YMCA is scam for parents. PERIODTTT

The worst YMCA I’ve been to yet. It’s not very clean, couple of staff members seemed rude. I was at first happy to see a few tennis courts at the YMCA. You have to reserve and pay for it. Most of the time it’s just lessons being done, not much of a demand for it. However, the hourly rate varies and in my opinion heavily overpriced. At some point of the day if you would like to play for an hour, you would pay $36.

We have been going to this particular YMCA as non-members for the past four years for the children's aquatics classes for both of my children. Well this year has been the biggest waste of money yet and the costs keep rising? My sons instructor was great when she was there…she ended up leaving as the instructor and every week a new instructor was starting from the beginning. Can you wet your face, blow bubbles, bob under the water? I have never been so disappointed, as his progress had completely stopped and he has lost his confidence that was building? Then at the end of the 12 week class he gets a report card, that does not even describe his abilities as a swimmer?

Tried first time, just wanted to swim couple of lanes and enjoy a little the Sauna. For 15$ for non-members. Just for swimming? Crazy. The pool was ok, but everything seemed to be little old like in the 60s. The Sauna is a joke. In the middle between locker and shower, dirty, the heater must be manually turned on. People coming in with wet swim suits and shaving cream in the face and sweating on the woods. Crazy non-existing Sauna culture here. No relaxing zone for after Sauna. Nobody cleaned the locker or shower area. All over dirt. First and last time here. Gonna have to look further for decent sauna & swimming facilities.
