Love this place! I do the Monday night Balance and Agility class which stretches us all out. I love the strength training. Mostly I love that it’s a friendly place with good humored participants and funny, gifted teachers. I’ve had a rotator cuff issue and Kim (owner) always knows how to modify exercises for me!

Human Movement Lab is a fantastic gym and community to come back to strength training after years away. Kim and the whole coaching staff design challenging but fun and engaging programs to fit every age, shape and level. Couldn’t recommend trying out HML more.

Human Movement Lab is literally one of the best places I've decided to come to work out. The community is so welcoming and inviting--regardless if you're a fitness guru or a beginner (like me). There's never any pressure to push beyond your comfort zone and it's truly one of the most diverse gyms (both age, fitness level, ethnic background, etc. that I've been to). Highly recommend checking out the community! You won't be disappointed.

I've been coming here for about a year and a half.
I have had Mobility issues in the past and she is great at giving alternative movements to do if necessary.

I leave this review after shoveling the driveway and the sidewalk. Normally my back and legs would be writhing in pain and I can say that the last few times I have shoveled have been much easier than they had been in years past and I know it wouldn't be possible without going to Kim's classes.

The Lab is my favorite place for group classes and personal training. Kim has created a workout community that is authentic, inclusive, nurturing, and fun. She is also just an enjoyable human to spend an hour with. The workouts are varied and challenging while being accessible for all ages, sizes, and abilities. In personal training, Kim has created a program that works for both me and my wife, even though we have wildly different fitness preferences and goals. Kim seeks out feedback to make sure that the lab programming, scheduling, and equipment continue to meet the needs of the community. All instructors are qualified and committed to the inclusive mission–Amy’s Rise and Grind is a great way to start the workday.

Unfortunately, no one can be told what HML is. You have to see it for yourself... Kim has successfully created this environment where everyone feels welcomed no matter what fitness level you are at. You feel challenged and proud of yourself after each class with guaranteed laughs and funny moments. I was barely able to manage 8lbsdoing bicep curls when I first started and now up to 15lbs. May be a tiny step for most, but a big one for me for sure :) Thanks Kim!

I started taking classes at HML last fall and I can't recommend it enough! Kim creates such a welcoming and inclusive environment. As someone in a larger body, I've often felt out of place in fitness spaces, but here I feel empowered and motivated. Kim’s support and encouragement makes all the difference. If you're looking for a gym where you can truly be yourself and thrive, sign up for a class!!

I have been going here for 3 months now and all I can say is wow. I have never been more motivated to get up and move. I am constantly learning new ways to get strong. Kim always pays close attention to everyone in the class to make sure we understand how to do each exercise the correct way or how we can modify if we aren't quite there yet. She has a variety of classes - strength training, cardio, and body wellness. Joining her lab is one of the best things I have done for myself. THANK YOU KIM!

Movement, fitness, health, community and care are things that enrich my life. Being a mindful movement teacher, I look for others in the world that I respect and can learn from - that create spaces that I want to learn in. Kim has definitely created that! I love what she has built - a small gym, with group classes (and private training) that are fun, diverse, thoughtful and inclusive. Kim makes workouts challenging, but is never pushy and always has the best attitude. Thanks for being such a superstar Kim.

I cannot recommend HML more! Kim is a super knowledgeable trainer who will help you achieve all your fitness goals. She is chill, laidback, and supportive; she is NOT one of those get-in-your-face and yell-at-you-till-you-puke trainers. She calmly encourages you to push your potential and before you know it, you feel stronger and healthier.

HML is welcoming and supportive of ALL folks, body types, and fitness levels. Plenty of gyms claim to do the same but this is the first gym I have seen that actually walks the walk and everyone feels like they can find success here. I have shoulder and hip issues and Kim is very mindful of my limitations and offers me modifications in group classes as well as researches my issues so she can stay informed and plan appropriate personal training workouts for me. Despite being unable to do certain movements, I don't think I have ever felt stronger and prouder of my body.

Okay full disclosure, I am only writing this review because we currently have a September Bingo challenge happening at HML and I am weirdly competitive. BUT this is exactly the kind of wizardry I'm talking about! Kim has somehow created an amazing community of humans who come to HML to exercise and stay for the camaraderie, support, laughs, and post workout cheer. I am so grateful to have found Kim and HML!

I first met Kim when she was my son's boxing coach. I was so excited when she opened the Human Movement Lab in Hyde Park. Kim is excellent—knowledgeable, attentive, fun, and truly invested in helping you reach your goals. The gym itself is spacious and well-equipped, creating a great atmosphere for workouts.

The classes are not only fun but also challenging, and they cater to a range of fitness levels. What I really appreciate is how personalized the sessions are—everything is tailored to meet your specific needs and fitness goals. Whether you're a beginner or experienced, you'll feel supported and motivated here. I’ve had a fantastic experience at the Human Movement Lab! Highly recommend!

I’ve had the pleasure of taking classes at the lab and personal training with Kim. Kim has created an amazing community for all fitness levels. She has helped me to accomplish my goals and pushes me to be the best version of myself. I would recommend all programming at the lab. They even have a walk/run club out of Roundhead Brewery!

As someone who has worked and trained at all types of gyms and spaces, I won't even hesitate to put Human Movement Lab on top of the list. You won't find anything as comprehensive as the Lab. From functional training that's actually good for your body, to personalized nutrition built for you by a certified professional (because there is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all plan or following tips from an influencer), to expanding your fitness palette with other options like the run/walk club, yoga, boxing mitt work (again, with a certified USA boxing coach), mobility and much more - it is essentially a one-stop-shop. Kim understands movement like no other and is well-versed in so many physical fitness and training areas. She is also approachable, professional, and your best cheerleader. Kim does not see you as a business transaction - she's invested in your goals just as much as you are.

This place is a gem and much needed especially in a fitness world filled with differing messages, knowledge and "experts." You'll see a variety of ages, identities, and abilities - all working on various goals. If you're ready for something new, motivating, empowering, filled with community and focused on YOU, the Lab is where it's at. Try a class or drop-in to run/walk on Fridays to get started- you won't regret it!

Discovering Human Movement Lab is one of the best things that has happened to me! Kim has created a space that inspires you to hustle without being pushy and a community that attracts the most encouraging people who have been so welcoming from the first moment I walked through the door. I have been attending Kim's group fitness classes for almost 6 months and I haven't felt this strong and energized in a long time. She makes it easy to stay consistent.

Amy's 6:30AM Wednesday class rocks when my schedule demands a morning workout. She brings the energy and encouragement needed to get the work done, especially if you're not a morning person. I know I will never regret forcing myself out of bed to make her class.

Kim, Amy, and everyone at HML make it fun to get active!

Kim's classes have a great flow and I appreciate that she offers different modifications for different bodies! I also love taking classes that incorporate/provide education around the different workout equipment you find in a gym.
And the warm-ups and after class guided stretches are on-point.
I also work with Kim in 1:1 sessions and those are absolutely fantastic-- Kim listened to my goals and helped me to develop a workout plan for home. Kim walked me through each exersize to ensure that I had correct alligment and also helped me understand how each exercise connected back to my goal. I am really excited go continue to work with Kim at Human Movement Lab for my next goal of becoming more comfortable and confident around lifting and using the different gym equipment.
I also worked with Ashlyn, HML's Registered Dietician, to develop a balanced nutrition plan to support my fitness/health goals. Ashlyn's approach is kind, patient, and understanding (I came with a lot of not-so-healthy diet baggage, lol).
Ashlyn helped me develop a plan that feels good, sustainable, and realistic for a happy/balanced/badass lifestyle.

Had a fantastic experience at the Human Movement Lab's first group fitness class (strength and conditioning)!! The space is clean and wide open - makes you feel like a kid who wants to just run around and play. I loved the variety of equipment options Kim has and she was super creative in her use of it all. It was a fantastic workout and the hour flew by. Will definitely be going back for more classes!

I've been a personal training client of Kim's for 6 months now, and it's been one of the best things I've ever done. Kim is fantastic to work with - she listens to your goals and is thoughtful about putting together a program to help you reach them. She is great at encouraging you to get out of your comfort zone without pushing you past what you are ready for or capable of. Kim has helped me be more confident in my fitness journey, and I always look forward to our sessions. Highly recommended!
