Machines are great if you want to get a workout and not looking forward to classes or the extras, price is reasonable and doable, my biggest complaint about this gym has to be the stench in the bathroom and lack of cleanliness, this gym has so much potential but it seems the owners just stop caring and only looking to get it filled up with members.

This was the kind of review I gave to the Stoneham gym before they renovated. Equipment will stay broken for weeks. Weights are never properly replaced. Staff seems inattentive. Cleanliness leaves much to be desired (and yes, it’s a gym, but still.)

Overall, it’s nothing to write home about. The location is good for people in Malden and Saugus, who don’t wanna schlep all the way to Stoneham. And the pool and hot tub are maintained… fine. But at the end of the day, the facility has a somewhat depressing vibe. Whether that’s due to the dim lighting or the general rundown state, I don’t know. But I used to prefer this gym to Stoneham (by a hair.) That is no longer the case.

Also, whoever runs the spin class keeps the door wide open and blasts the music from the speaker. Either turn the volume down or close the door. When I’m using the treadmills upstairs with my noise canceling headphones on, I shouldn’t feel like I’m inside the room with all the bikes.

I will say that the gym is clean, Theodora does a very good job at making sure the gym floor and the bathrooms are clean! However many of the machines are broken and seem to not get fixed in a timely manner.

It’s a big meh. You can get a good workout in if you avoid the busy hours.

The gym has a serious etiquette problem (people don’t rack weights). The dumbbell area stinks.

There are about 5 spaces for squats, 4-5 hack squat areas. Overall it’s ok. Nothing here well wow you, a decent price for ok weights.

Sauna is mostly broken and equipment needs updating. Most treadmills broken, everything outdated and not working. If you're coming in just for heat therapy, you must call ahead of time to see if the sauna is even working which is disappointing. Other than that, it's a good gym, large space, childcare and swimming which are nice, however there is a gap in the schedule with child care, closed from 12-4pm which is inconvenient for the money that you are paying and the fact that the gym equipment is mostly broken, the least they can do is keep the kids club running for parents who need the flexibility and are paying extra a month for their children. Absolutely ridiculous.

I have been a member at Planet Fitness, Crunch Fitness, and now LA Fitness in the same local area. LA Fitness is the most expensive of the three, yet it consistently provides the worst overall experience when compared to the other gyms around.

Equipment and Maintenance Issues

- ​Outdated Glute Machine: The glute machine is an old model, which makes lifting heavy weights feel unsafe and potentially dangerous. Curl weight station are broken. The incline barbell bench shake when you add a extra weight. It is totally loose. And others...
- ​Broken Hip Abduction Machine: The machine is old and broken (missing a hand holder). Crucially, the seat cannot be adjusted.
- ​Missing Free Bars: Several machines, such as the bench press, are missing their corresponding free bars. This forces members to wait for others to finish using a bar before they can begin their set.
- ​Non-Adjustable Benches: The standard benches in the dumbbell area are old and cannot be adjusted, limiting their utility. (Be sure to include photos to show this issue.)
- ​No Hip Thrust Machine: The gym lacks a dedicated hip thrust machine.

​Cleanliness and Facility Condition

- ​Poor Overall Cleanliness: The gym is generally dirty, especially when compared to other, less expensive fitness centers in the area.
- ​Unsanitary Men's Bathroom: The men's bathroom appears to not be cleaned daily. Urinals have been visibly dirty for extended periods, and poor airflow contributes to a persistent, unpleasant odor.

​Staff and Management Observation

- ​Personal Trainers vs. Essential Staff: I frequently observe 4 to 5 "personal trainers" sitting idle for hours, seemingly doing nothing constructive. I question the management priority of having so many trainers versus investing in additional cleaning and organization staff to address the gym's significant issues, such as the messy dumbbell area.

I’ve been attending LA Fitness for 8 years, and have gained the most results than any gym that I’ve experienced in the past. My daughter has also been attending the daycare here for the past 2 years. Their staffs are attentive to all the kids there. The management and staffs as a whole are great here in Saugus.

I love the spinning classes, but almost half of the bikes are broken, the sound system isn’t good and it’s so loud that you leave the class with a headache. The Sunday instructor (Lyn) ALWAYS arrives late, usually between 15 and 20 minutes, and that’s not fair because the classes get delayed, and if you have things to do, either your schedule gets pushed back or you can’t enjoy the full class — which I find very disrespectful. The Saturday Zumba class is always empty; they should consider having the same instructor from the weekday classes teach on Saturdays. I love Zumba, but the Saturday class is simply not good. There are many reasons why I don’t think this is really a good gym, especially considering how much they charge. It’s sad that instead of making improvements, you just have to get used to the way things are.

This is the dirtiest la fitness I’ve ever been in! Poorly managed and stinks! The equipments here might have the deadliest bacterias! The only reason I’m giving 2 stars is because the monthly price is affordable. Unfortunately, that’s where the positives end. The gym is poorly managed — broken machines stay out of service for weeks, and there’s often a 30-minute wait (or longer) just to use basic equipment. Cleanliness is also a big issue; it’s clear they don’t stay on top of regular maintenance and cleaning. Was there on Saturday morning (4/5) at around 10:15 and left probably at around 12:30. A couple hours later I realized I left my water bottle. I called them and described it to them and asked if they had it, they said they did it was in the lost and found. I told them okay, my name is Mikayla and I will be there Monday night to get it, they assured me it would be there. At the same time some of my friends were at the gym, they happen to need to look in the lost and found for something and they saw my water bottle. They wanted to take it but someone told them "we talked to her we are keeping it she's going to come and get it." So today, Monday (4/7) I get to the gym at about 5:45 pm and when I scan in I tell the manager about the water bottle and he says "we just cleaned out our lost and found today" I said "okay well I called and gave my name and when I'd be here and was told that you guys would hold it for me." He goes and checks and he says that they threw it away. He said "we usually keep stuff for a week and when this fills up we throw everything away." First of all it was there for 2 days, and second of all I called and CLAIMED IT, gave my name, and said I would be there to get it at a specific time. He told me there was nothing he could do about it. So glad their main concern is cleaning out their lost and found when the gym is disgustingly dirty at all times, maybe they should focus on that instead of throwing away peoples belongings!

Don’t sign up if you know what’s good for you. Gym is a mess. Can never find dumbbells because they are scattered everywhere! Hot tub/sauna are constantly out of order. Also, no one ever answers their phone and trying to cancel a membership with them is like pulling teeth. They told me I would have to come in when the manager is there 9-5 M-F if I wanted to cancel. So I go in the next day and the manager is not even there so I was told to write my info down to cancel and call back in an hour to confirm. So that’s what I do. I call back 20 times and no one answers for hours until they finally answer after 5 where I’m told the membership was not cancelled and I would have to come in again tomorrow!!! It’s like they do this on purpose and hope people hold off? Just an overall bad experience.

This gym has just gotten far worse in terms of maintenance and management since I joined 5 years ago. The basketball court has been closed for a few weeks now and hasn’t been fixed, the sauna is also broken, it takes them forever to fix anything and god forbid you ask the front desk staff for information or assistance, it’s always above their heads and in “corporates hands”. Exceptional Kickboxing Class Experience!!

Today, my wife and I had the opportunity to participate in the 9:45 AM Saturday Kickboxing class for the first time. Although we have been members of this gym for a couple of years, we had never joined a group class before.

From the moment we stepped into the studio, we felt welcomed and at ease. The class exceeded our expectations—it was dynamic, engaging, and well-structured. The instructor Andreia S. was outstanding, demonstrating great energy, professionalism, and clear guidance throughout the session.

We highly recommend this class and the instructor. We are already looking forward to joining again soon!

An extremely awful experience and mediocre customer service from the front desk person named Jennifer. No one should be humiliated and disrespected that way especially if their request is only their legal right. Some staff need training in customer service, professionalism and above all not misleading clients with false promises. Management was not available to resolve the issue but the corporate side was much more pleasant and promised to take an action.

I had a great experience at the gym. It was a clean, organized, and very spacious facility. It includes a sauna, pool, and steam room. The membership is worth is. The staff are friendly and and helpful. I had a great experience with Camilla in sales, she was helpful getting me on board.

Camilla and Jen were great. She did an amazing job showing me the gym and getting set up. She was very helpful and detailed and got me everything I needed. Looking forward to using the gym on a regular basis
