Went early am and ALL FLOORS DIRTY , bathroom floors , floors around and under machines.
Same older lady walking around on phone while allegedly cleaning when seen.

I've been to smaller busier La Fitness and seen several employees constantly cleaning

Money spent on redo is going to be equivalent of rearranging deck chairs on the titanic or putting lipstick on a pig.

Pool and spa are not working for a very long time and now the don’t have hot water as well. Trying to call to see if hot water is back in order - the phone is not working 😂. Spa is not working, they lowered the temperature in Sauna to the point that you can barely feel it. Showers are dirty. 2/20/25. - big improvement. Everything is working so far.

Jacuzzi and sauna are closed again for repairs. I am sure for a long time again. It happens too often here . I don’t know what’s going on. It’s very good when it’s working ,though .Equipment is fine. But extras…🙄. As of today 6/17/25 SOUNA, SPA(HOT TUB) ARE NOT WORKING AGAIN. HOT TUB IS NOT WORKING FOR A LONG TIME. IF YOU ARE SIGNING UP TO USE IT, JUST KNOW- ITS NOT WORKING AND THEY ARE NOT IN THE HURRY TO FIX IT. So, 11/21/25. NEITHER SAUNA NOR HOT TUB ARE WORKING AGAIN. THEY BEEN CLOSED FOR A VERY LONG TIME. At one point they fixed the sauna but it’s broken again today. Hot tub is also closed for repairs again, it’s been probably a month, no signs of any repairs.

I just wanted to take a moment to say that I saw professionalism in the trainers at LA fitness with Jimmy and Ben, The both of them exemplify everything that is great in this world, your patience and thoroughness with each client is apparent, and I stopped them often late to tell them. These people are crooks and will take every penny that they can from you. It is not a coincidence that nationally this company is being sued for making it impossible to cancel your membership. I signed up and paid for a full year membership and a personal training membership which costs $240 a month in April 2025. I was excited and also signed up because I was told that the gym would be remodeled in mid to early June. I knew that if I didn’t use my PT credits then they would just be in my account for me to use. I had some personal issues and couldn’t make it in and schedule with a trainer as regularly as I wanted but also wanted to wait for the new remodeled gym. I will also mention that I was working with Mike the trainer and he was absolutely terrible to work with my first intro session he was 30 min late! The remodel never happened in June it happened in August and unfortunately I had a horrible injury to my knee and a month later learned that I had a fully torn ACL which would require surgery after months of PT to get my knee to a better place before surgery and if not then would need a separate surgery to remove any scar tissue.I was devastated. Not to mention I just had a gallbladder surgery last week. Once I learned of the full extent of my injury, I contacted LA fitness and told them that I needed to cancel my membership and needed them to stop charging me for PT. They said okay and mentioned that I needed to physically come in and show proof of my injury. I then contacted corporate which took over a month to get a reply that wasn’t helpful. I then walked in, in crutches and fully braced leg and showed documentation of my injury. I was told by a manager that my PT membership would be canceled and I would receive a full refund. That didn’t happen. I was charged shortly after and again this past week. I spoke to another manager Hazem and he said I needed proof of my messages to a manager showing that I needed to cancel and then said I needed to show when the injury occurred and that one thing they could do is charge me $15 to freeze my account so I don’t lose the PT credits. I also want to mention that anytime you ask to speak to a manager they will tell you that they aren’t there which is a complete lie they just try to avoid you. I got a call from Hazem yesterday and he said he can refund me from July on for both the personal training and my membership that was paid in full. I disagreed with the July date because I paid for 3 months totaling in $769 of nothing and would understand if I was just complaining and didn’t want the membership, but I paid for a service I never got and even though I want to be able to train I physically can’t! I agreed that I didn’t need to be refunded for the gym membership because I had popped in the gym and used the facility. He disagreed and said both are the same. Hazem doesn’t care about you or your needs. He truly made me feel cared for when I signed up but it’s all to get your money. Do not workout and get a membership at LA fitness this entire company is full of crooks. I just filed a complaint with the AGs office yesterday and plan on doing more!

Can’t believe they kept 4 pickle ball court and 3 empty rooms nobody uses but decide to replace the BASKETBALL court with squat racks that nobody uses. The basketball court was the only thing that made la different from any other gym. Now it’s just an overpriced normal gym.

LA Fitness gym in Stoneham is a pretty decent gym with Pros and Cons.

I recommend LA Fitness gym for the facility.

For the benefits… the gym is big and spacious, has nice amenities (sauna, pool, and hot tub), and recently got a big remodeling makeover. The facility looks much nicer.

For the downsides… the gym is not a very friendly and sociable place; and not a place to make new friends. And the staff at the gym is usually friendly when you’re signing up but after you’re a member they ignore you. Stoneham might be a geographical location of unfriendly people.

Before I joined LA Fitness gym, I went to BSC gym in Woburn for a good 7 years before the location closed down shortly after the pandemic. Boston Sports Club gym was awesome! A staff member would always say Hello when you walk in the gym when you scan your card. I used to say hi to dozens of people at the gym and chat briefly occasionally. Lots of staff, trainers, members and me were connected on social media Instagram and would view and click like each other’s posts and stories. BSC gym was the best gym I’ve been to!

LA Fitness gym has a very different atmosphere of people. Normally when you walk in during the evening hours after 6pm to scan your card, they ignore you. One staff member walks to the other side of the desk and turns around so he won’t see you, another staff member usually walks over to the customer service area when people walk in, and another staff member sits at the computer occupied on his cell phone. The only person that says hello to members that walk in is the Operations Manager Nicolas if he’s not overly busy, is the only friendly person there, and leaves at 6pm. When I used to go in after 6pm, I didn’t get a hello for at least 3-4 or 6 months and ignored daily by the front desk staff. Nowadays, I basically try to get in before 6pm while Nicolas is still there and it’s a pleasant atmosphere; and before the antisocial staff comes in to cover the check-in area for the night. Also, one day on the gym floor last year I said Hi to a staff member (Asst GM) and he walked right passed me and just ignored me. Maybe he was having a bad day, I’m not sure.

Also, a lot of LA Fitness staff are afraid to be connected to one another on social media Instagram. Most of them have 1,000+ Instagram followers, probably 100’s of people they don’t even know. But when a member sends a friend request to be connected and get to know one another, they get nervous with adding you.

It’s also not a friendly place with members. There are only a few people I say hi and chat briefly with and a majority of them are former BSC members that started going here too.

Most members try not to make eye contact when you walk by them and some are occupied on their cell phones. One day when I was working on chest workout for the day, the first machine I always use is the incline bench press machine and there’s only 2 of them. Both of them were occupied by members and both of them were using their cell phones while I was waiting behind them. I looked up at the clock and they were using their phone for a whole 5 minutes then finished their last set and left. I leave my cell phone in the locker when I workout so I’m not distracted and not delaying other member’s workouts.

Also, when another member left the bench press machine, he left his cell phone there. I used the bench press after him and thought he might come back to grab his phone but he didn’t. I brought it over to him when I finished working out and asked if it was his. He grabbed the phone and threw it in his bag and said it was his. Very rude and not even a thank you. I should have just left his phone on the floor and he could pick it up from lost and found if someone turns it in.

I’ve been trying to ask around people I know to join the gym as referrals so I have more familiar people there to say hi to. Unfortunately, most people are happy with their own gyms or it’s too far for them.

Aside from being a very unfriendly location, it’s a very nice facility.

Came here only to find the place under remodeling and temporarily closed—no email or text notice beforehand! First it was the swimming pool closed, then the hot tub, then a third of the treadmills not working… and now the entire gym is closed with no refund or notification. So frustrating!

I'm writing this from one of the unbroken-for-now treadmills. Wish me luck.

I count no less than 12 of the 25ish treadmills currently out of service. 2 of the 4 stair masters are also down. One of the bench presses has an uncomfortable wobble to it. And the men's room is usually filthy.

I've talked to the staff about the maintenance stuff, and I guess it's all getting replaced in August? We'll see. Still stuck paying full price to wait for now, though, which doesn't seem quite right.

Pros: membership is easy and decently priced, and my wife had no issue cancelling either. Play room is great for small kids. Staff are friendly, vibe is generally good, and equipment that works is fine.

Edited down to 1 star. Another stairmaster bit the dust.

The worst decision this club will ever make is getting rid of the basketball court. If management has any idea what the members actually wanted they would not make this move. This is a big disappointment from an LA Fitness that is already constantly behind on maintenance and needs so many other updates. They clearly have no understanding of how many customers they are going to lose. This is the only gym with a basketball court within a 25 minute radius.

Do you like cold showers? How about mice? Maybe you’re a fan of broken equipment, employees sitting on their phones, closed sauna and pool for extended periods of time, or a basketball court that leaks oil? What if I told you that you could pay a ridiculous price AND they would get rid of the basketball court for good? If that all sounds good to you then you’re in luck! The most disloyal gym around. Complete trash like the people that own it. Woke up at 6 AM on a daily basis for 3+ years to play basketball just for them to close it for a “fitness room” that they will 100% raise the price for. A gym obsessed with stealing money while they use that money to band aid problems and pretend to care. Goodbye LA Fitness Stoneham, I hope you go out of business and become a Starbucks or apartment space in a few years.

I joined this gym after a lot of trepidation, having not been in a gym otherwise since high school, and, honestly, I've been really surprised how much I haven't hated it, haha! I love that there is a pool, too, and the locker rooms and gym overall never really smell bad (to my surprise!). Jimmy has also been a great personal trainer. He pushes me but is also really nice about it. I've lost 30 pounds so far...and counting!

DO NOT EVER COME HERE! I cancelled my membership in person on July 30th, 2024 and was told my membership was cancelled, yet found out recently they have been charging me for the past year and misinformed me that my membership was cancelled when in actuality it was not.

On July 30th, 2024, the manager on the floor at that time was the one who helped me, though I did not catch his name. He sat me down by his desk and proceeded to try to convince me to stay, even offering a free personal training session. I declined, and the conversation lasted around 20-30 minutes as he told me he was processing my member cancellation. He clearly stated to me that he completed my membership cancellation and I was “all good to go” and would receive a confirmation of my cancellation via email. The email unfortunately never came, and I did not discover the recurring charges until June 15th of this year.

I went back to this location on June 25th, 2025 and wanted to speak with the club manager about the fraudulent charges over the past year. I spoke with Kay, who was the manager, and told him about the situation. Kay told me that he saw on his computer that I did attempt to close out my membership on July 30th, 2024 on his end. He told me to call the LA Fitness billing department, and I asked for a printout of what he was seeing on his desktop so I could present it as evidence when talking to the billing team. He denied me a printout of what he was seeing, and assured me that if he was able to see it on his end, then the LA fitness billing team would no doubt be able to see the attempted cancellation on July 30th, 2024 as they share the same system. I then left and called the billing department, and I spoke with Emily from member services.

I spoke to a representative Emily from Member Services at 3:37 EST on June 16th on a recorded line and she repeatedly denied seeing the attempted cancellation on July 30th 2024, though we confirmed with Kay, the club manager, that there was an attempted cancellation on that date just moments prior. Emily then tried to tell me that they had sent an email on July 30th, 2024 containing a form that I needed to print, fill out, and mail to confirm my cancellation and that it was not a receipt of my cancellation, but I never received the email. I was informed by the manager who cancelled my membership that this email would be a cancellation receipt. Nonetheless, the email never arrived and Emily repeatedly told me that this email should have arrived in my inbox, though I checked my spam and trash and confirmed my email with her.

I have repeatedly asked Emily to let me speak with a manager from the billing department and she kept denying me to speak with one, assuring me that although she was from the member services department, she was still the best person to talk to. After some back and forth, we did not reach any solution. She refused to refund me the nearly $300 they have been fraudulently charging me for. I then was informed by Emily that only operations managers at LA fitness have the authority to cancel memberships. Then she told me that “the manager [who I spoke to on July 30th, 2024] was not the operations manager and did not have the authority to close out [my] account.” If he did not have the authority to close out my account, he should have told me to wait for someone who had the authority to cancel my account and have them do it for me. Yet, instead of handling this issue responsibly, the person I spoke to on July 30th, 2024 erroneously told me that the membership was cancelled although it was not.

It is absolutely ridiculous that I was told by the manager on July 30th, 2024 that I would receive a confirmation email of my cancellation, and then being told by Emily that it was not a confirmation email of my cancellation and never receiving any sort of email from them. I find it unethical that I was repeatedly being charged a large sum of money ($300) for an employee from LA Fitness’s mistake. I will never join LA Fitness again and don't ever come here unless you want to lose hundreds of dollars.

I’ve just finished a 6month workout routine with Fahad, one of the trainers here at LA Fitness. He was exceptional. I’ve been dealing with knee, hamstring and shoulder issues and Fahad effectively developed routines and exercises, such that I could continue to build strength and size, while not further injuring these areas. Not sure who’s giving this place five stars… It’s gotta be a friends and family thing. Maybe the people that come to swim in the pool or play ball… Basically people not prioritizing the equipment out on the floor. Anyway, it’s just a rough location. Half the treadmills don’t work, the one I was on today had like an emergency break power down (no I wasn’t tethered to the emergency stop - yes I know treadmills - I’ve run for hundreds perhaps thousands of miles on these machines) This treadmill did a full emergency brake stop as I was in the middle of a full sprint… Not cool. Dangerous. Painful. I came from California with a membership there. Solid gym. I’ve been to two of the LA Fitness locations in the Boston area. They were both similar experiences, (bad) but this one is worse. As usual, it seems like the people are great, but whoever’s managing this place, the ownership, whoever… not good. I highly recommend you go somewhere else. I am not an LA fitness hater, you’re just gonna be better served going someplace else, that’s all.

SERIOUS SAFETY AND MAINTENANCE ISSUES

This is by far the worst gym I’ve ever been to, and it keeps deteriorating.
• Many pieces of equipment have been broken for months with no signs of repair.
• The facility is extremely dirty, showing a lack of proper hygiene and maintenance.
• Doors are broken, creating security and accessibility concerns.
• There aren’t enough weights, which makes it hard to complete a proper workout.
• No air conditioning, making it unbearable, especially in summer.
• Very poor lighting throughout the gym, making it dark and unsafe.

20 treadmills total, only 8 works. Unbelievable!!

Major Concerns:
On 09/18/24, the fire department shut down the gym again. This raises serious red flags about compliance with safety regulations.

This gym urgently needs proper management and investment in safety and equipment maintenance. I strongly recommend looking for other options.

I’ve been a member of LA Fitness for a while, and unfortunately, the cleanliness and maintenance of the facility are serious issues. The bathrooms, showers, and sauna are extremely dirty, disgusting ... almost never properly cleaned. It’s unacceptable for a gym of this size to neglect basic hygiene standards.

Additionally, many of the gym's machines are in poor condition. Some are rusted, while others are broken and left unrepaired for extended periods. Equipment maintenance should be a priority, but it seems like it’s being overlooked.

I recently joined LA Fitness. After visiting other nearby gyms, LA is by far the best! I felt welcomed during the tour. Mike, the Head Fitness trainer, is so friendly, always there to help. He matched me up with trainer, Julianna, who is superb in customizing my weight training program. She makes it so varied & is attentive to my form. She keeps my visits updated in the work-out log. It makes it easy for me to follow my program on other days.
I find the gym spacious, clean, sunny, great lay-out of machines, warm locker room and pool a great plus. I look forward to trying classes as well.
As someone who reluctantly went to the gym in the past, I am always motivated to go!
I am also rehabing a knee injury-Mike and my trainer regularly check in with my progress.
There will be an overhaul to update the gym this May.
I highly recommend joining LA Fitness in Stoneham!

The clientele is awful, and management does nothing to address the behavior. Weights are left lying around, often requiring a hunt. There’s so much scattered equipment as to be unsafe. The locker room is gross.

Would not recommend this location, machines are broken regularly and nobody racks their weights. Water fountains have been broken for the last two weeks as well with no plan for a fix. I’m usually a fan of LA fitness facilities but this one has fallen off in quality recently

The facility is spacious and has basic equipment for fitness. Some classes are available for sign up but hardly any available lessons on weekends. The swimming pool is shared with British Swim School occasionally so you will see kids swimming in the far lane but that doesn't bother me. I wish the bathrooms/shower rooms are a little more clean. It is clean but doesn't feel like it is cleaned enough. I was here when the fire alarm went off a few times. The staff knew the protocols. I say it's a good facility.

Come every weekend. Please go everywhere else but dont do membership with LA fitness. Its the 3rd time i give them another chance, but this people are cutting expenses as much as they can. Locker rooms and bathroom smell like subway public bathroom. Always. Always. Nasty place, competing with Saugus Location on which one is more disgusting….

Staff was pretty nice and the personal trainer I worked with was great. Although i’m only writing this review just so other people don’t have to go through this. I only had my membership for less than a month. I was getting creepy men come up to me and make weird comments about me and my body and this one man came up to me about 5 times and would not leave me alone. I tried to stick it out but was feeling so uncomfortable being there. I let management know about this and that I no longer felt safe coming here and they seemed helpful but wouldn’t even give me a refund for the $100 I spent on a membership there (which, like I said it wasn’t even a full month maybe like 2-3 weeks?) and the only reason I was leaving was from the harassment which occurred a concerning amount for the short time I was there. I’ve gone to a million gyms and never dealt with that to this extent. The gym was also always*** EXTREMELY hot (and smelled) and even if I wanted to try and wear baggy sweatpants and a sweatshirt (which I shouldn’t have to) I couldn’t because I would actually overheat. Regardless just be safe everyone. I know that was just my experience but if I can help someone else to not feel that way, it means something to me.

This is a nicer, cleaner, more friendly location. Currently living in South Boston, I think the drive is worth the better experience.

The large rooms and the punching bags in the studio are also great for my HIIT workouts. Thankfully, everyone is respectful and returns weights to the rack when they are done. Some equipment is old, so not a perfect experience.

The people that work here are awesome. Had a health issue and they were all over it!
But....the equipment is old (I do think they try hard to clean...) broken a lot, held together with tape, oh and rusty...very limited free weight for such a large gym. Let's not forget the AC breaking down...during summer heat...
Again great people who can't impact the equipment etc. Owner should be ashamed!

Nice big club. Pool is fine. 4 lanes except when being used for swim lessons or aqua aerobics. not so great during busy times.

A huge locker room. Lockers have a hanging bar and hook on one side. Bring hangers.

This club has kick boards and pull buoys. Thank you! It is very nice not having to bring your own. I hope the regulars appreciate this since most LA Fitness locations I’ve visited do not have any equipment.

I've been going to the gym since April of this year. My needs are met since I'm only interested in using exercise machines. I especially appreciate the children's room, which is a must-have for parents. The babysitters who work there are very nice. The gym is trendy, even on weekends, but you can always find available equipment. However, some treadmills do not work correctly, and I think it would be beneficial to sell some unnecessary TVs and hire a treadmill repairer 😆 And yes, sometimes you can see a lot of wipes around - because of many people. Please clean up after yourself! Also, it was boiling in the summer, and I would appreciate more effective cooling.
Overall, I recommend it - the staff is friendly and polite, and you have everything you need for efficient training.

Scumbags say the person who cancels you is never there. Been charging me for over a year without canceling me out. I've gone at least 5 times to do that. Left a note like they asked for still nothing. Just emailed corporate for them let's see if they do there job.
