I recently started going to Lifetime at Chestnut Hill and I've had a positive experience so far. All of the instructors have been great and the facilities are clean.

One major downside (minus one star): the cold plunge is only in the men’s locker room. There’s more than enough space in the women’s locker room too, so it’s disappointing (and pretty outdated) that they assumed only men would care about recovery features like this. Big miss for an otherwise solid gym.

Just did a personal training session with Mia, she is amazing! She taught me I could be lifting almost 2x as heavy as I’ve ever lifted before. I had no idea! It’s clear she’s an expert on Women’s strength and I’m so glad I get the opportunity to work with her. Highly recommend both her and this beautiful club.

This gym has a lot of potential but is being held back by management. Basic items are always missing: Q-tips, razors, and shaving cream are routinely in limited supply; the cold-plunge hasn’t had its thermostat replaced in months, and managers never take an interest in customer comfort.

However, one thing you can count on finding is the manager hounding customers to leave at 11:00 sharp and “writing up” people who pay $260/month or more for these facilities. So if you’re someone working 12+ hours/day, I would suggest another gym.

Aside from that, the towels are nice and gym area is pretty good.

To whom it may concern:

I have been a member of lifetime chestnut hill over 10 years. During the first 8 years this was the best gym in MA. Two years ago, things started to get worse. Your management team in Chestnuthill cannot handle the easiest requests such as to send the updates if the spa area is closed for some reasons, or the showers are off or the steam or sauna is not working properly.
Last year a man started to come in the only woman’s locker room and we were told that he is in transition but the problem is that Lifetime Chestnut hill has only one locker room for women and children. This man has man’s private parts.
A group of moms have complained about our privacy and safety and Chestnuthill management did not even respond to that.
Yesterday, a woman came with the huge dog to the women’s Locker room it was Nora service dog, because there was no vest and no paperwork on it. And the dog has started sniffing, barking and leaking towels. There was a senior who is allergic to dogs. Also, another member expressed the concern about it to the manager Natalie, and she just does not care.
It is a health concern for us and allergies since the women’s locker room is the only room for everyone to share, and none of us want to take a shower after the dog hair or saliva.
We were hoping you could please help us to resolve this by making it comfortable for everyone to enjoy your wonderful club.
Thank you very much!

Customer support is lacking heavily on the support at this gym. Been a member for awhile and I was involved in a bad car accident that left me with a very serious Injury. I was not able to use the gym for a year while I focused on rehabilitation. I didn't realize that I was being charged the membership until my card declined on the last charge. My fault for not putting a medical freeze, but honestly the gym was the last thing on my mind with this injury and possible life changing surgery.

I emailed support and Lisa M. says the injury happened a year ago so they are "unable" to help me with reimbursement even with documentation that THEY asked me for. Won't be wasting anymore time and money at Lifetime Fitness at Chestnut Hill 👎👎

Overall the gym has great equipment and lots of squat racks (unlike equinox) although it tends to get crowded at 4:30 am and 5pm.
It's very hot in the summer and tends to be around 75 to 77 which is insane for a gym - turns out their AC is still broken (been broken for months).
My only issue is the complete lack of quad and hamstring isolation machines. They exist but they are awful. I've never seen such a bad hamstring machine in my life(image attached). Even Plant Fitness has better machines for quads.
Overall one of the best gyms in the area!

Sean at the front desk had a terrible unprofessional attitude. It’s a pity because the gym is nice, but the service experience makes you not want to come back. I’m a member in NY, and stopped by on my drive back. I can’t say everyone has such a disdain for their work as Sean did.

Loved the locker rooms (hot tub, sauna, steam room) and exercise classes (Ronan’s yoga classes were the best!) but it just got too expensive. I also had a negative experience with a personal trainer where they said I’d look much better if I lost 20lbs. I get it, I was at a gym to get healthy, but that was not motivating to hear. It definitely is a bit of a bro/barbie culture. It was wonderful to use the facilities but the culture is not very welcoming.

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly: My Lifetime Chestnut Hill Experience

The Good:
🎉 The staff is super friendly—always ready with a smile!
🎯 The location is so convenient.
🥪 Love the cafeteria area—great place to chill or grab a bite and to work from.
🎶 The music? It’s always on point—really gets me in the zone!
😎 And best of all, it’s usually not too crowded, so I can actually enjoy my workout.

The Bad:
🚽 The bathrooms… especially on the exercise floor… let’s just say they need a little TLC.
🚗 And the parking garage? It’s busy, and sometimes feels like a game of Tetris to find a spot.

The Ugly:
🍽️ Some of the cafeteria crew could use a little more hustle—tables and trash areas sometimes get a little too cozy.
💦 And the water refill station? Definitely needs a refill... often!

A Little Suggestion:
🏋️‍♂️ Can we please post gym floor rules? With limited space and busy hours, it’s pretty frustrating when people sit on machines, staring into their phones, while others are waiting for a turn. Let’s keep the flow going!

Even with a few hiccups, I still enjoy my time at Lifetime Chestnut Hill. Let’s just say it’s got potential for even more fun if those little things get sorted out!

This is five star gym facility and I will explain why it worth your money. Firstly place is extremely clean , it makes you feel better than other local gyms available. Secondly, super professional and attentive lifetime staff to help you and guide you in your sport journey, thirdly, newly renovated men’s sauna makes experience better than other lifetime locations in Massachusetts , it might not be the biggest lifetime but how compact and comfortable it is cannot match other locations I have been and lastly Pilates coach Farrah is a extremely knowledgeable and professional , I had shoulder injury and she helped out to strengthen it and I got stronger in lifting because my core got extra strength.

I joined this gym expecting equal access to all its amenities, but I was extremely disappointed to learn that the cold plunge, a highly beneficial recovery tool, is only available in the men’s locker room. This means that as a woman, I have no access to it, while men can use it freely.

It’s unacceptable for a modern fitness facility to provide certain recovery options exclusively to one gender. If you’re going to offer premium amenities, they should be accessible to all members, not just half. I brought this concern up with the staff, but no solution was offered.

Until this issue is addressed, I can’t recommend this gym to women looking for equal treatment. If you’re paying the same membership fees, you should get the same benefits.

Great gym! Worth every penny! 10/10

Huge shout-out to Donny! He's an incredible personal trainer! This man exceeds expectations. He not only knows his stuff but is very personable and fun to work with. He has taught me a ton, I'm looking forward to more sessions with him.

Also I have to mention Jenifer for GTX and Nutritional consultations. She goes above and beyond in her work and really helps me keep to and accomplish my goals.

And of course Despina for Yoga. I look forward to her class every week!

They all keep me motivated and working hard each class while helping me keep my form correct. Amazing instructors and trainers!

Everyone together is helping me get in the best shape of my life, everyone's been amazing here

Went into lifetime today after driving 35 minutes with one of my friends who I was going to use a guest pass. When I tried to get my friend inside the worker at the front wouldn’t let my friend in as they stop taking guests at 9 when it was 9:03. I tried asking the worker nicely that I was not aware of this and that we just wanted to use the sauna and leave and was still denied entry. I’m sure this wouldn’t be the case with other locations as workers are generally very nice. Very disappointed in this as a proud member who pays $260 a month.

Today I decided to check out the gym with one of my friends that has been a member there for years, when we got inside the women working at the front desk said he couldn't have any guest there after 8pm. At the time it was 9pm, all tho I drove 1 hour to meet him there I understood that rules are rules and i respect it. So since he told me so many good things about the gym I decided that this was time for me to just get my member ship. When I asked to be signed up she told me that the only computer they use to sign up was being used by a personal trainer, there was an additional 2 computers but a apparently they weren't functional, I politely asked the personal trainer if she had an idea of how long she would take to finish so I could simply sign up, my words were "sorry to bother you. Do you have an idea of how long this is going to take?" Her response was "It will take as long as it takes" on a very rude tone. I was shocked of how I was being treated by the LifeTime staff so just decided to go home. WONT RECOMMEND THIS gym

Disappointed to find out this location only has a cold plunge in the men’s locker room. When I asked I was told women were given more vanity space instead. Women deserve the same wellness amenities as men, not outdated ideas about what women need.

Additionally, access at this location for the normatec sleeves is only allowed under the supervision of a paid trainer but this makes no sense as other locations have them out and available for everyone’s use.

Although this location is smaller than some others and doesn't have a swimming pool, it's one of my favorite Lifetime locations! I really enjoy most of the class coaches here, especially Kenneth, who teaches Alpha classes, Hania, who teaches yoga, and Jennifer, who leads GTX classes. They are always attentive and genuinely care about helping you reach your fitness goals.

Kenny is probably the best group class coach I've ever had. He pays attention to each individual and encourages me to strive for improvement. He'll come over to demonstrate the correct posture if he notices I've made a mistake or push me to use heavier dumbbells when he knows I can handle more.

I highly recommend joining this gym for its fantastic classes and instructors! Classrooms are larger than normal studio classes, and the workout space upstairs is always super clean and aesthetically pleasant, especially with the natural lighting comes from the skylight windows above.

My only suggestion is that the gym could improve maintenance of the equipments and facilities. The sauna room was closed a couple of times this year, and the Apple Watch connection isn't working with some of the cardio machines. I believe the management team is already working on these and I'm looking forward to coming in everyday!

Not worth the high price tag. Cafe is VERY expensive ($12+ for a protein shake) does not have enough allergy friendly food and has been restricting bringing in outside food. Equipment is sub par and not in good shape. The bumper plates have huge chunks missing out of them. The alpha space is brand new but cannot be used the majority of the time due to the alpha classes. Equipment breaks constantly, the sauna is always broken and being repaired. No one, including the trainers clean up after themselves or share equipment during peak times. In the evening, the gym is crowded with children/teenagers being obnoxious and not cleaning up after themselves. They hang out with the employees behind the front desk, who themselves aren't professional at all. Trainers will take a whole power rack, preventing other members from using it, and only spend 10% of the time with their clients on the rack. They will then subsequently not clean up after themselves. The trainers also seem to be spending more time on their phones than paying attention to their clients.

I’ve been a member of Lifetime since February of 2017. This gym has seriously declined over the years. Women’s sauna is constantly out of service for long periods of time. I recently had to hop around to 3 different treadmills before I found one that worked! Which has NEVER happened. Membership cost is constantly increasing with no improvement to equipment. And this gym has totally forgotten about their core members who come to workout and relax. Classes over crowd all the spaces

Recently, the Lifetime Cafe issued a statement prohibiting members from bringing their own food or snacks to enjoy after working out and relaxing. Additionally, they restrict members' usage of utensils. This policy diminishes the quality of the gym experience. The essence of a gym is to support members' health, yet this rule hinders that goal. It restricts access to comfort foods and may pose challenges for those with food allergies who cannot consume the cafe's offerings. Consequently, it feels like working out at a subpar establishment rather than a top-notch gym.

I want to preface by saying this is a great gym aesthetically and the instructors are (for the most part) excellent and seem to genuinely care about helping you reach your fitness goals.

My issue is with a choice management recently decided to make. I’m an avid goer of the barre and mat Pilates group fitness classes and the spot placement has always been pretty snug to the point where you can’t do certain movements if a class is full. Starting in March 2024 they decided to put the spots even closer together. The new spot placement is not only unsafe but also unsanitary considering we are still living in a post-covid world. This is supposed to be a luxury gym and yet they cram you into the rooms like cattle.

I’m keeping my membership because I would hate to miss out on the wonderful instructors I can only see at this club, but most days I go to Westwood since it’s not as crowded.

I love this gym so much. The classes are fantastic- the heated yoga- specifically flow and warrior sculpt as well as the cycle classes are my favorite. Alpha and gtx are also favorites and are like small group training. All instructors have been wonderful. The kids academy is where I feel this is really worth it for me. I am able to get a workout in, tutor from the cafe, and take a shower knowing that my kids are happy and doing fun classes. They are always excited to go and I am never bothered during my workout. The parents night out events are also fantastic and I get built in baby sitting to go to dinner or see friends. The staff at the kids academy, especially Danielle, are truly a godsend. Is this place expensive, yes, but I feel like I use it and it is worth it. My only suggestion would be softer towels.

Beautiful place, there are an array of equipment to use. However I would like to point out, that there are "Karen" members that think they run the club. Some members have close relations with employees, and, as a member, will feel entitled enough to threaten other members / employees to have them kicked out of this club. No appropriate action has been taken to deal with them. I have seen members, and employees be let go because of a "Karen" getting their way. Employees are biased and favor certain members over others. It is causing an unfair, and unsafe environment, and not worth spending $250 a month. Also, children run around in the locker rooms screaming and nothing is done about it. Overall, only the rich, petty, naive members are favored, and cause more stress.

Alex Chery, one of many great trainers at Lifetime in Chestnut Hill, MA, is my Personal Trainer there. He worked with me initially, pre Covid and when I rejoined a month ago, I received an hour training again with Alex.
Alex is a very genuine person who cares about every client. He listened to my concerns and goals, then advised me on diet, hydration, sleep, stress reduction techniques and exercises geared toward this 67 year old who’s a 37 year old wannabe. He recommended Lifetime classes including one that he teaches called Alpha Strength. Though totally out of my comfort zone, I tried it and love it. Alex is a tremendous teacher. Though a popular class, he manages to circulate during the entire 60 minutes to help each individual with proper form and encouragement. From novices to bodybuilders, Alex is consistent in his approach to everyone. I can strongly endorse Alex as a great Personal Trainer!

I really appreciate what Life Time Newton location kids academy staff doing for my son. My son has autism and it was really hard for him to go to a new place. The first time we brought him to kids academy, he only stays for 10 mins and he can't stop crying and screaming. At the second time, Chrissey assigned Ben who has ABA experience to take care of my son. Guess what, my son stays around 2 hours there(he cried at the first 10 mins)!! When I came to pick him up, I can tell he had so much fun over there. At the third time, another staff (sorry, I didn't know his name) even brought cups to welcome my son.(My son is obsessed with cups) Because of those lovely and professional staff at kids academy, my husband and I are able to take a moment to enjoy workout. And we have tried so many fitness before, Life Time is the only one we decided to keep using it because of the kids academy.

I worked for life time in Illinois for two years, so I feel sad writing a sub-par review. Unfortunately, this location is just that. I joined in December of 2022 at a rate of $219/mth for a single person. I convinced my partner to join too, as he wanted to lift in the mornings and Life Time was one of the few places open before 6am. He joined a month later, but was clear this was a trial basis for him, and we changed the membership to $319/mth for two people.

During our time there, there were machines that weren’t functioning correctly. My partner reported one to at least seven members of the staff, and it still hadn’t been fixed after several weeks (both under old management and the current new management). My partner wasn’t for the fluff of towels, provided toiletries, etc and decided mid-May he was going to cancel his membership and switch to a cheaper option with better equipment maintenance. I emailed through the app to notify LTF that I’d be returning to my single member and was aware my price would be $219/mth for just me.

I received a response where they informed me it would be a $10 charge to remove him, and my new membership price would be $229/mth. When I inquired about why it would go up, the response was essentially I should feel lucky that it’s $229 and not the current rate of $259 (!!!), and that they do not guarantee rate lock-in. Just for some perspective, Burlington costs $259/mth and they have tennis and pickle ball courts, as well as option for indoor and outdoor swimming, which chestnut hill does not.

I was already annoyed that I had to pay the same rate as men after finding out from my partner men have access to a cold plunge pool in their locker room (I was told by the previous GM that they could only put it in one locker room due to space and they chose the men’s to trial it). Considering the high level evidence to support longevity and health, it is a complete disservice to women and absurd to charge the same amount without equitable access to amenities (google Peter Attia or Huberman Lab and cold exposure). This is literally called the healthy way of life company and they’re providing superior health and longevity benefits to ONLY men.

Anyway, long story longer, between that and the complete lapse in customer service. They had to try to squeeze out that last little bit, sticking to their guns on an increase of $10/mth, from a company that was sold for $4 billion in the middle of the pandemic after I brought them in an extra $500 worth of revenue over 5 mths on having my partner on my membership. I’m still getting emails asking me if I’d reconsider and come back.

There are other things such as not being able to use a majority of the racks in the mornings due to alpha classes, the lack of cleaning that is done, consistently empty cleaning wipes/tissues/etc, signing up for spaces for yoga classes and people being in them who never signed up because there is no one checking people in.

That being said, it was nice to have all my toiletries, towels, etc provided. Day lockers. Sauna and steam room. The yoga instructors were phenomenal (particularly Jodie, Danielle, Mary and Meredith). Which is why they get two stars instead of one.

I've been a LT member for many years and enjoy my personal body training sessions with Jen so much! Words can't say enough how amazing Jen is in spirit and in her work. I was very impressed with her passion, knowledge and professionalism. She made sure to consult with me about my life style, work/parenting schedule, goals, big why, workout routine and eating habits. She also asked about any body injury to ensure that she is aware of everything necessary for a successful outcome. Not only did I have a much better workout program, I came away from the sessions with a better understanding of how to take better care of myself. Jen understands the importance of details when it comes to body training and nutrition, which is why she is so effective at her job. She also enjoys acting as a resource to me for areas in which she is considered an expert. Her professionalism and desire to get the job done right make her the kind of asset that makes everyone around her better at what they do. I wholeheartedly would recommend Jen for any body training or nutrition coaching. She's that good!

Wanted to try before buying, but they don't allow a trial day and ask for an absurd $50 to give them a shot for one day. Not one week; one day.

This tells me the company views fitness and health as elitist and exclusive. For a strong and healthy society, these things should be accessible and inclusive.

You can find better gyms for the price (and for much less) that will actually let you give them a shot before asking for this much in membership fees.

I am pleased with my overall experience at Lifetime Chestnut Hill gym, but unfortunately, I cannot say the same about their Kids Academy. The staff there seems to be untrained in dealing with children and their needs, leaving me disappointed with their service.

My kid was left to cry without any effort to soothe them, and the staff would only call me after waiting for more than 5 minutes of crying. On one occasion, I was told to pick up my crying child, and when I arrived, I witnessed the staff just watching him cry without any attempt to comfort him. It was heartbreaking to see my child treated with such indifference.

To add to the problem, the director of Kids Academy, Daniel, was extremely rude when I asked if they could watch my child after he had calmed down. I later learned that other parents had also complained about her rudeness, and it was disappointing to see someone in a leadership position behave so unprofessionally.

In comparison, the Kids Academy at Framingham Lifetime has taken excellent care of kids. They try to calm kids down when they cry, and it works most of the time.

While it's challenging to find the perfect person for a job, it's crucial for Chestnut Hill Lifetime to improve their Kids Academy's service by providing proper training to their staff and ensuring their leadership is professional and courteous. Until then, I will have to take my business elsewhere

While this is a large gym, it failed to meet my expectations. Their staff is so stuck up and arrogant. I am paying over $200, whilst y’all raised rates and cut hours. Might as well cut the membership prices. The audacity for your locker room staff to yell at me as I am zipping up my coat to head out the door by 11:02 PM is intolerable and so unprofessional!! This gym is not welcoming at all compared to other local clubs. Sanitation wipes are always empty, and it is always humid in the gym. For the price I am paying for, do better, LifeTime.

Confused why the women’s hot tub doesn’t work considering how much people pay to go here. It’s a cool place but for $240 a month, everything should be super clean and functional.

I have really liked this gym. However they have shorten their hours and increasing rates. Lot of people have complained but they no actions has been taken to make a change. All lifetime fitness locations in the area close at 12pm. But for some reason this location has just changed to 11pm. Frustrated

Great gym with super friendly and accommodating staff. They have tons of options for classes and stuff and lots of different rooms for things like hot yoga and spin classes. They also have free wifi and a cafe so they really are striving to provide the whole experience. Their equipment is nice and well-kept and people are generally very courteous. Parking is free. I really miss the atrium mall but this place doesn't suck

This is just a beautiful place. From the three (or is it four?) story atrium in the main workout space to the pleasantness of all of the staff, it's really my wellness haven every morning.

I stop in just to stretch and drink my tea, it's such a nice experience. Plenty of space from a sit and catch up on emails, etc. and it's not weird (but rather encouraged) to do so.

Probably will get the fam to join here in short order too bc they have classes that appeal to everyone (including my six year old) along with a place for her to hang if the wife and I go together.

Six stars!

I have been a member of this gym for a couple of years now. The staff keeps changing, the gym is nice but not any better than any other high end gym. Also for the price you pay, you would hope they would have a women’s only area but they don’t, definitely not worth $191 per month for the type of costumer service you receive. You could call 5 times and 5 times you will get a different answer. A lot of he said she said and zero accountability. Not worth the money at all. Regret joining, customer service has highly declined since Covid. Staff is extremely arrogant And rude.

This is the most expensive gym I have ever been a member of. Great instructors, amenities and instructors. I appreciated they were often with some restrictions during Covid. Pre pandemic I paid $176 a month. Post Covid it went to $194 and they just announced another increase. I may have paid it had the tone of the communication been different. The notice I received informed me of the increase and suggested how I should understand I am very lucky since it is $20 less than new members. Are you kidding me? Be thankful I am paying over $200 a month with this increase? They also started issuing surcharges for weekend spa services which, post Covid, is the only time they are open. I just feel line item charged to death. This doesn’t feel like how I should treated after being a member for several years and spending so much on monthly membership, private instructors, spa, cafe and other services.

This place has been overcrowded and is going downhill.

A bunch of entitled and disrespectful teens that do not know how to use equipment or put the weights back. You will see 3-5 groups of people per bench making it impossible to use or get your workouts in timely and effectively. It does not matter what time of day you go.

Weights are constantly being slammed and on 7/18 it felt like the air conditioning was not working. It was so muggy and humid I felt like I was going to pass out. Reduce your capacity. Set capacity limits. This is RIDICULOUS. The sanitation wipes on the weight floor were empty and I was needing to go to the station by the elevators to get cleaning supplies.

The equipment overall needs a deep clean. Everything is sticky - especially all the peripherals for the cable machines.

The locker rooms are a mess, men having conversations and standing fully naked. Towels are everywhere and it is in need of a deep clean. It’s really gross seeing hair just stacking in corners of the showers.

This is not the Life Time I know and love. Memberships need to be reviewed and need to be capped. It’s not worth paying $200 a month for this kind of experience.

I’ve brought up the issue to the front desk and nothing has been done. Your younger members need to either be either removed for bad etiquette or taught. This is not okay for a luxury gym. It’s looking very similar to a Crunch or Anytime Fitness.

You need to have your staff walking the floors and flagging things down.

Will will be leaving to Equinox soon.

I cannot say enough good things about Lifetime in Chestnut Hill. LOVE THIS CLUB! Lifetime has given me a sense of community, which has been nonexistent for me since the pandemic began. I used to be an equinox member pre-COVID bc they had gyms in the city, but you don’t get the outdoor amenities that Lifetime offers. Lifetime lives up to its price for everything they provide. You get full state access to all of their gyms which is a huge plus during the summertime, which is when I go to the Framingham one for its outdoor pool, jaccuzi, and slides. But for indoor amenities, the Chestnut Hill one’s better for 2 main reasons:
1. The lockers are full length with compartments so you don’t have to cram everything in.
2. Indoor bar/restaurant with the largest cafe!

I do wish they had another location within Boston itself, but all in all great gym!

been a member of this gym ever since it was opened. (had a Life Time membership at another location, this location is closer to home). I mostly only used the free weights area so this review doesnt apply to their many other services.

for the most part all machines and equipment are kept in good condition, sometimes it may take a while for a broken machine to get fixed, but they have enough variety to not cause a problem.

knocked off 1 star for 2 reasons:
1. membership is very expensive at $150+, you really gotta be serious about fitness to make it worth here. if you are just coming here to use a treadmill three times a week maybe look for cheaper alternatives.
2. they replaced all the power rack platforms after the initial set got too worn out, I felt like they really cheaped out on the replacement, not a fan of the new platforms at all, made me give up powerlifting for a while.

most 1 star reviews on here have to do with cancellations, honestly just ask them and read the details before you sign up and all that can be avoided. I cancelled my membership with no problem because I'm moving to a different town.

The feeling I get after a workout is the motivation I do it everyday. The days when I feel lazy and I want to cancel class, I remember the energy, the community, and happiness I feel. When COVID started, I got very isolated. No community, no support, no activities, everything completely shut. Lifetime saved me, they welcomed me into a community, provided me with a luxurious, energetic, and supportive experience. Walking into a place that greets you with smiling faces happy to see you at the front desk, kind staff, supportive instructor, and respectful colleagues.
