MAGMA is a center for movement practices where people of all ages can discover, develop, and create in a broad curriculum of movement styles.
MAGMA’s dance classes focus on the actively evolving forms of dance as art. With an understanding of the past, and an eye to the future, we nurture students in the highest standards of dance education.
MAGMA also offers classes in somatics, martial arts, strength and conditioning, social dance forms, and more.
In addition to offering classes, workshops, and socials, we are a performance venue for dance, music, theater, and contemporary performance practices.

We reached out to Sarah at Magma to help plan our son’s third birthday party. The location was perfect for lots of little kid energy. The team at Magma was communicative and available in the lead up to our event, and the day itself was superb. A room full of toddlers were led in a series of creative activities that got them moving, cooperating, and using their imaginations. Sarah even had great sense of how to schedule our day to allow for free-play time, food breaks, and even made sure we had options for older siblings who joined our party. Every single kid was engaged and happy, and the grownups had a lovely time too; I can’t recommend them enough!

This is hands-down our favorite dance studio ever. We drive up from Salem every week because Miss Sarah is the best children’s dance teacher I have found. She is kind, firm, inclusive, excellent with my neurodivergent child, creative—just a top rate natural teacher and all of her staff are likewise! I cannot recommend MAGMA’s classes, programs, and events enough. Even if you aren’t looking for dance but still want to support the wonderful work they do, DONATE!!

I am an adult who started ballet here about a year ago and love every class that I can steal away to take! Sarah Swift teaches adult ballet not "recreationally" but technically correct ballet. This is what I love. Being taken seriously. I have taken floor barre, ballet basics, beginner ballet, and intermediate.

I have been studying with the gifted and talented Sarah Slifer Swift for almost a year. Gloucester is now a destination for so much more than beaches and dining - it's where every trained and aspiring dancer should go to learn about dance and to enjoy this gorgeous studio.

Just opened fall 2017. imo, this is on the verge of becoming the most exciting dance studio north of Boston/Cambridge. The atmosphere/space is incredible. There are many different classes for dance and movement to explore here. Don’t miss out!
