Large facility with plenty of equipment. But understaffed - front desk often unattended and pool lifeguard MIA. But the biggest dis-satisfier is the plumbing: showers are awful - unreliable hot water, low pressure and poor anti scalding valves. Terrible way to end a workout.
Update Mar 2023: A plumber was in recently and rebuilt all of the shower faucets with a huge improvement. Thanks !

No hot water in the showers in the past week. Wound bandage in shower stalls was still there next day, wonder how often they clean. Steam room (women) usually not working. Needs better management.

Staff is rude and unhelpful. Gym and other areas are usually disorganized with trash left behind. High price to pay for low quality, and given the limited options of gyms in area, they can have poor customer service but still operate.

This is a very bad sport club, most equipments are over used and worned without any maintenances, the treadmills have become very dangerous , suddenly stopped and they just gave the excuses , they do not spend any money to maintain their qualitys of sport equipments , sometimes it has become very dangerous for members, the part time manager Sharon occasionally shows up in Wellesley, She always warned people regularly to terminate their memberships without any sound reasons, She is disgusting and annoyed! BSC should file her!!!

Very disappointed at the service provided at BSC Wellesley that we have decided to terminate our membership. The manager (Tom) is one of the rudest people I have come across for a person as a leader of customer service for his branch (BSC Wellesley). He refused to answer a basic questions and has refused to refund the money that was debited ($380) from our accounts because they could not find a swim coach for my kids. The facility kept charging us knowing very well that there was no coach and we did not ask for a refund hoping they would adjust it when they do in fact find a coach. Speaking to the branch manager and asking if they could adjust towards another class was shockingly a very bad experience. We were told that they could not adjust for another sport since that is how the instructors are paid. So who got paid for the lessons my kids never got?!

Recommending this gym to anybody who is adamant about exercise, and socializing. The people at the club are lovely. To specify, the individuals that work the front desk are unbeatable. So friendly and are always one call away to assist with any issues questions or concerns one may have.

I tried this gym for a month. There appears to be no working AC, I found broken and heavily used gym equipment, including a recumbent bike missing multiple bolts in the seat, that should have been inspected and/or replaced, no one uses towels to clean off machines, the building is ugly on the inside, basketball courts weren't usable due to sports classes being held for non-members, no staff walking around to inspect areas and make sure people are safe. Also the free weight area is too small and crowded. One plus is there are very few people working out at the gym except mostly very old men who must be local and this guy who spends hours on the stair stepper using his arms to hold himself up so he can cheat (the weirdo even wears gloves to keep his grip or something), but there are reasons it's dead as I described above.
When I first got there, I was told they had no one who could process my membership, and they didn't know about a free trial or that I could just sign up online. I had to go online on my phone and do it on the spot. Since then, no one even bothers to check if I'm a member. It's terrible management to put a staffer in that position with no knowledge of what to do. They deserve to fail.
I've added some photos of broken and heavily damaged equipment, as well as the thermostat from today showing 86F inside when it was 62F outside around 5pm.

This club only survives because there is nowhere else nearby to go with basketball, tennis, swimming, etc... under one roof. The biggest miss is how badly they have mismanaged tennis. Even after the management change which seemed to go out of their way to ostracize existing members, the customer service somehow managed to get worse. It went from incompetent to non-responsive, rude and incompetent. The only redeeming factor about this club is its location, situated between Needham and Wellesley.

Truly unfortunate what the Boston Sports Club has become. What used to be a local gem in the summers and prominent business run under competent management - slowly spiraled out of control due to corporate turmoil and class action lawsuits regarding fraudulent membership charges. If you don't believe me just scroll through the review section for yourself. It is filled with people talking about how they were fleeced out of money through reoccurring fraudulent charges, or grossly mistreated by management. I personally was charged about $50 to take my membership off freeze for a couple days because management told me it would be a pro rated monthly charge (which it was not). When I confronted management about this they told me they did not care that I was lied to. Among other things they frequently rent out amenities they advertise on their website - meaning you could show up on any given day and more often than not you cannot use the pool or basketball courts. The reason being is despite the fact that you might pay to belong to their club, they want to make a quick buck and do not care if that means you will not have access to the things you pay for. Overall if you are considering the BSC in Wellesley I would definitely recommend going elsewhere . If you take into account the fact that you are not able to use any of the advertised amenities but will be charged for them, a gym that might seem to be equipped with less to offer will probably end up giving you the same benefits for a fraction of the price. Likewise if you are not wanting to spend more for a gym, take into account the inevitable fraudulent charges you will receive on your account at BSC and spend the extra money each month to belong to a club that will not steal from you. Hopefully one day they will do a corporate purge and restore the culture and integrity they once had.

Without a doubt the worst indoor tennis playing conditions I've experienced. The lighting is so poor that it felt like playing outside at dusk with no lighting. Must be the only place around. That's the only plausible explanation I can come up with for why anyone plays tennis there. Just awful.

Patrick Doyle's review was exactly what happened to us, attempting to reserve a court for a season of Ultimate Frisee. Even though we had been users -- paying $4000/year for 8 years pre-pandemic -- we were very poorly treated. (Longfellow Sports Club was just the opposite, and welcomed us with open arms.)
Deals were offered and withdrawn even after we had verbally agreed, each time they moved the goalposts, changing the night, and then the time, and then "oh, by the way, we need insurance." (No one else did.)
Finally, we were told someone had already signed a contract for our spot, so we couldn't play at all.
Then when we complained, instead of effusively apologizing or apologizing at all, we were told "this is not a priority for us" and a couple of other blame-the-victim excuses.
We are never, ever going back there again!

I reserve courts to play tennis here a lot. I do hour slots, sometimes I leave after 45 mins but I never go over the hour to be courteous to the people who have the court after me. Most of the time, if I have a reserved court that someone is playing on (ex; if I have 11am-12pm, they have 10am-11am), they always go into my playing time by 5-10 minutes. BSC doesn't care to do anything about it or enforce the slot times. I went on Sunday (10/10/21), the people in the court before me were still playing a serious game into my reserved slot time, so they offered us a different court next to them. That court had kids on it, their parents were playing on a different court nearby, and the kids were just running around on it & doing cartwheels. They put us on a court with no one near it which was great (hence the two starts instead of just one). Prior to leaving, we made our tennis slot time for tonight (10/12/21) at 5:30pm. I was just called to be told that they double booked & would be giving me a free court for whenever I wanted it. After giving them numerous time slots that worked, we settled for this weekend. But seriously? I've been a member here for two years, and have played tennis here quite often over the summer-now. That's quite irresponsible to "double book." Especially when they're so disorganized.

I "was" a member until this week. They have had their issues in the past with questionable business practices and a poorly run club but I was hopeful with a new owner/management. Tried to renew my tennis contract for this winter. Was issued a contract, by Zach, that specifically stated I had until September 3 to commit. The contract detailed the day and time I had requested. We went back and forth during that week as some of the terms they were proposing were not the same as they used to be. Fair enough, things change but I certainly felt I had the right to question some of their new policies and terms. I was trying to organize a consensus of the 4 other guys that would be on the contract. Takes a little time to do that. Reached out to Zach on September 2 to tell him I would be in the next day (the date specified in the contract to commit) with the signed contract and payment. I was informed that the day and time slot was no longer available. Excuse me? Do you not honor the contracts you issue and the terms stated in the contract? Could you not even call me to let me know I was in danger of losing my slot? Apparently not. Turns out they kept the slot for their own use. Wow, talk about the same old, same old questionable business practices. Great way to run business. I went to Zach's boss to see if he could help. Nothing. They won't even acknowledge the fact that they ignored the terms of their own contract. Cancelled my membership, as well as I'll go to another club to play. I know of at least 6 other guys that are going elsewhere as well. Convenient location but I'd rather travel an extra 15 minutes to deal with a business that respects their members.

Nice and pleasant personnel but the gym needs a good refresh. Not too many equipments to choose from. Has a pool that one can use, good basketball court. But the shower rooms need to improve on cleanness. More regular bleaching/sanitizing could help removing the stinky smell from urination.

i started at Boston Sports Club on Wells Avenue in Newton, about a mile from my house. Very convenient, a 2 minute drive, if the two stop lights were green. I was sad when the Club closed during the Covid lockdown.
However, I found the BSC in Wellesley and that is where I go now. It is not a bad drive, only 10-15 minutes, 7 lights, and usually very little traffic. Plenty of parking!
When I joined the 1st club about 8-10 years ago, I had been running for about 50 years, including several marathons and half-marathons, and as I slowed down, way down, I felt the need for more total body training, and not just stretching and running, plus the commitment of joining a club, and finding a trainer. I worked with the first trainer for a year or so, and then he moved. Luckily I found another trainer, a wonderful trainer and person, and we have been working together for 7-8 years. My core and extremity strength improved and have been maintained.
I started doing a "plank "at the beginning of each workout, and my longest was 17 minutes. I have now settled down to a more reasonable time of 10 minutes to start each session.
Both my trainer and I moved to the Wellesley Club, and so luckily we have continued our sessions in the new location. It is much bigger than the prior one, and has many options, although I am there only for workouts and not tennis, swimming, or basketball.
The club has been very good about Covid safeguards and Purell dispensers are everywhere, and signs abound about social distancing.
My advice to someone who is considering joining a Health Club would be to find a trainer with whom he or she is sympatico, and to establish a regular schedule, and stick to it.

I've had my membership for probably close to a year at this point, but I wish I had taken advantage of it more before all the changes due to COVID. Either way, I have had nothing but great experiences and all the staff are extremely nice and very helpful. I've been seeing one of their elite trainers, Joe Clark, for around two months, and I can't explain in words how much I've learned from him and how much better I feel. My biggest concern coming back once they reopened was the cleanliness, but they do an exceptional job cleaning, enforcing the rules, and keeping everyone safe. No doubt I'll keep coming back to use the facilities myself or to see Joe.

I cannot say enough amazing things about the BSC Wellesley and its staff. I switched over to this gym post Covid and it has far surpassed my expectations. While I was slightly nervous to return to the gym, I have found BSC Wellesley to be extremely welcoming and safe. The entire gym is super clean, all equipment is clearly marked and spread out & there is a private area for training only. Where do I begin with my trainer Joe Clark? I have been a client of Joeβs for 6 1/2 years now and I couldnβt be happier. He is incredibly knowledgable, makes me feel comfortable no matter what we are doing & pushes me to my limits every session. At 35 years old, I am in the best shape of my life thanks to Joe. Would highly recommend him & the BSC Wellesley to anyone thinking of joining a gym!

Unethical, incompetent and now bankrupt. BSC continues to charge my credit card after I have repeatedly canceled my membership with confirmation from the gym. I thought it was resolved 6 months ago after successfully disputing credit card charges and new charges just showed up. Front desk staff basically admits that BSC HQ is overriding cancelations and continuing to bill members who have canceled. Nice guy I talked to today in Wellesley said he's leaving his job this week because they treat their employees terribly too. This place is owned by a bunch of pirates who couldn't care less about doing business with any integrity or honesty.

Great facilities. In the old gym from Babson next to the Ice rink. Plenty of weights, bikes treadmills....a pool and a big hot tub out by the pool...you don't find this often. We have Fitness Fridays there for clients generally 3-4 times a year. Have been training with Albert Samano for say 10+ years. Definitely have made progress and have more muscle than at 40 or even perhaps 30.....passed 50 in 2019. Keep it up. I would never use them again due to their fraudulent business practices. We had frozen our account when our son went off to college with the understanding that we could resume the membership when he was back over the summer. He ended up not coming home last summer and thus never contacted BSC to resume the membership. Without notifying us, BSC automatically resumed charging our credit card and now they won't refund the money. I have cancelled our membership and will never go there again.

Boston Sports Clubs (owned by Town Sports International Holdings) is in many ways a professional scam business. When you sign up for membership, they enforce a 45-day contract which means in effect that after you cancel your membership, you pay a full extra month's membership. The utter senselessness of this is built around extracting every last drop of profit from customers that the corporation cares nothing about.
BSC requires payment by credit card and if you try to remove your credit card information from the online portal ... you can't. You can't choose to remove your credit card for any reason, and they expressly disallow any other form of payment. What kind of business requires your bank information and refuses to give it up at your request? What kind of businesses refuses to take any other form of payment, and claims that it literally cannot take other payment? BSC is practicing bold-faced corporate thievery.
When confronted with these issues, the local management blames everything on corporate management, and says that they have no power or responsibility. The corporate management blames everything on the customer. When you have a customer issue, like the time that the pool was closed, and they put up no signage and provided no notification, then you are the one at fault, as explicitly told to you by the staff. When you report the customer issue on their website, you receive no response.
The head manager of this place seemed like a nice and level-headed guy, but he works for a corporation that is intent on scamming you out of your money. I also spoke with an entirely different person, Ashley, who also claimed to be the head manager. I wasn't surprised. BSC is hell for customer complaints and interactions.
By the way, in case you like e-mails, you'll love the sales staff for BSC Wellesley. Even after you join, you'll get constant daily text and e-mail notifications for membership offers. Once you unsubscribe from the offers, then you'll be resubscribed at no charge.

Do not join this gym This place is a nightmare to deal with. I had some money to spend from my company's fitness program so I joined them and asked them to cancel after my prepaid membership expired. I also was very specific about them not to keep credit card on file but after they reassured me guess what? They kept it and kept changing. After I called, they agreed to reimburse me. 6 months later, I am getting calls from collection agency. They appear to have high turn over with membership and people are there to just sign people up and say anything. I am sending all my friends to other gyms in the area with better service.
Update: Bumping up to 2 stars as they did refund all those unused months and calls from collection agency stopped.

Bad service. I got the free membership trial, only to be charged for the yearly fee up front (which is a full months membership fee). When we tried to cancel we were told we need to give 6 weeks notice, and were billed for the additional 6 weeks AND a $10 cancellation fee. Save your money and go to planet fitness or a local gym that won't have such a bureaucratic fee structure.

DO NOT PAY THESE PEOPLE ANY MONEY. THEY ARE NOT HONEST. I belonged to this club for more than 10 years. On multiple occasions, I hired trainers for my children. One of these times, my son did not complete the program, and I was comfortable forfeiting the money I'd paid for the unused sessions. The second time, the trainer was largely unavailable and made little effort to get the final sessions scheduled with my son. I let that go - it was 2 sessions and I did not want to make a big deal of it. The third time, we sat down with the trainer and were very clear that we wanted to do one month and then review whether or not we continued. They had us sign an agreement which they said just formalized what we'd discussed. It was my mistake not to read it. My son and I both left the meeting thinking we'd only signed up for 4 sessions - and we only paid for 4 sessions. After those 4 sessions, my son stopped going, and I was fine with that because I was certain that was all we had paid for. However, I proceeded to get another charge for 4 sessions, then another. They said that I had agreed to 12 sessions in 3 months. I had not. I argued and explained and they insisted that this was not the case - they even told me my son had come in 8 times - which he had not. The trainer texted my son and told him to tell me to stop and that he had put him down for more sessions because he "knew he wanted to come in." These people kept my money and even showed American Express the false record of my son's "sessions" (which the trainer had lied about). These are not good people. DO NOT PAY THEM ANY MONEY.

For parents considering registering your kids for a "school's out" day to cover when after school programs are out but you still have to work, be aware. BSC of Wellesley have a so called "all sales are final" policy, which means that once you click submit, your money is theirs no matter what.
BSC reserves the right to cancel the "school's out" day if there are not enough kids registering. When are they taking this decision? When are they notifying parents? Its not clear when I inquired. So if you were counting on this to cover while at work, you may end up being stock with no options at the last minute.
But I keep the best part for last. No matter what, even if they bail on you at the last minute, you miss work, waste a vacation day or any other types of inconvenience caused by their policy, they keep your money. Even if they cancel the day altogether. So you pay for a service, they can decide to not provide that service, and keep your money. You know, for good measure.
So we're 160$ short because they could not confirm whether there would be a day at all, so we had to rely on somebody else. And they wont reimburse us. But fear not. To avoid giving the impression that they ignore Massachusetts laws, they say you have a 1 year credit to your account. There you go... I asked about the next parents night out thing. "Well, we don't know if we will have another one soon. There may not be enough kids."
Thanks, BSC of Wellesley staff, for your candid honesty and apparent lack of self-awareness...
Update (10/22/2018):
Called BSC again. Could never reach the family program responsible. Always away from her desk, apparently. Left phone number: no call back.
Filed a BBB complaint. Not binding, but at least this will be documented. What would it be to them to refund 160$ out of a misleading policy? Says a lot..

This place has totally gone down hill since I joined may years ago. The management is chaotic, and full of promises they canβt keep. For instance about 6 mos ago promise new spin bikes.... still not here. Speaking of.... more then half of the bikes donβt work, and the ones that do are not a smooth ride. Also the bikes are filthy. I had to join a cycle studio just to supplement spin into my work outs. The bikes are about 7-8 years old and the ventilation in that room is terrible by the way. The gym itself is filthy. The TVs on the machines, many of those donβt work and are not user friendly when trying to change a channel. The club canβt seem to keep instructors. Many of the wonderful class instructors... and spin instructors have left and gone else ware. ( there are still a few left that are good). Itβs almost like they hire people just to fill a position.... ( trying to replace the ones that left)
The bathrooms are absolutely gross!!!!
They smell and are filthy. The showers are dirty
The womanβs dressing room is disgusting
They keep talking about all of these fabulous up grades....????????
I only stay there because it is convienent to my house, I would leave that place if there was another option close by. BSC please clean up your act... please clean up your club... hire some new motivating instructors including spin.... get those new bikes... get new TVs... get with the program!!!!!!
You have lost a lot of people.... everyone is complains about the place.....
I would honestly rate this place with negative stars if they had this option !!!!
One more thing. The personal trainers and the extra classes you have to pay out of pocket for are great. So if you are into that then the club is a good place for you!!

This was once a decent club. It isn't anymore. Management is inconsistent . And, at least for people who spin, the quality of the equipment is terrible . As a result, most (not all) of the good spin coaches have left for better clubs. Today was a typical morning, with at least a half dozen of the bikes in such poor repair that they couldn't be used. I've put my membership on hold until further notice -- there are much better choices available.

Bob Glowacy is fantastic in every way--skilled, intelligent, well-organized and an all-around fine human being!
My only complaint is about the rigid 4-meetings-per-month requirement, which becomes very complicated to achieve at many points throughout the year. It would be far easier if there were just a flat rate, perhaps one graduated for those who are "regulars." And there are way too many reminders of sessions. I wish that people could manage their calendars without needing to depend on someone else... but, then, I'm old. :-)

Excellent gym environment. Can get really busy at certain times, and really empty at other times. Very expensive.

This could be such a great gym if it had even halfway decent managers.
The space is good; the locker rooms have been redone (again;) the machines etc. are okay. But the ever-rotating, 20-something 'managers' are totally unhelpful, indifferent to members, don't manage the clowns who run the desk nor the sloth-like housekeepers. Staff morale is lower than whale poop. They aren't motivated so they don't care. And this is a 'Premium' BSC club.

I don't agree with many of these reviewers. yes, there are less expensive options but the club is quite well-equipped and has lots of new gadgetry. Everything is well-maintained and clean. I don't ever wait to use anything. The staff is quite friendly and available and helpful. I've scheduled weekly use of one baskeball court 3 winters in a row and it's worked out very well, though $110 for a small court for an off-peak hour seems excessive.

Nothing special, but priced like it is. For example, outdoor pool costs over $600 per person for a three month summer pass.
