The place is not terrible. It has potential. There are lots of options, but most of the equipment is not just outdated but so old it's rusty and quite difficult to use.

Northampton Athletic Club is an outstanding choice with a wide variety of equipment (freeweights, Cybex, TRX, Peloton, rock climbing wall, pickleball, basketball) and a wealth of regular classes (Zumba, Pilates, yoga, spin, boot camp, strength). Personal trainers are also available. Locally owned and managed, the NAC staff is friendly and helpful, and the facility is kept in great condition. It's easy to make friends here, so you can integrate your social and physical fitness. If you're looking for a pool, get the gold membership so that you can also work out at the Hampshire Athletic Club, too. I've been a member for three years so far and love it here!

Allowing me to park in the lot overnight and having a friendly community feeling and inviting place to join a group class and have a shower after was such a delight and I have appreciation and joy. Thanks all.

This gym is pretty good. I like it because it has a basketball court and rock climbing wall which most gyms don't have. It also has cheap babysitting for kids 8 and younger and an amazing Cafe with sandwiches and coffee. The equipment is also well maintained and it's never too crowded.

This gym is good. The main reason I joined was because Anytime Fitness got kicked out of their location and so NAC is the only gym near downtown Northampton and accessible by bike. I really can't bring myself to drive to a gym (there's just something too ironic about that), so I love that it's close to where I live and I can get exercise getting there. It cuts down on the amount of time I have to spend at the gym. The facility is a bit dated but almost in a charming way. Everything about the place seems like it has not been updated since the 90s except some of the newer machines. The photos and inspirational posters on the wall all seem like from another era, the same era as the kind owner sitting at the front desk. Makes me nostalgic for my hometown fitness club that I grew up with in the 90s. I don't really need the basketball court, the climbing wall, or the steam room, but I would rather go here than Planet Fitness. There's plenty of room to spread out and it's usually not too crowded. I wish they had more stretch areas with mats. There is only one small room for floor exercises. I wish they had some bike parking that was easier to access and didn't seem like an afterthought. It's kind of blocked by parked cars and in the winter they plow the snow into it. They have way more car parking than they need so it wouldn't hurt to put in some more bike parking! In fact, the whole front of the parking lot is barely used; it would be cool if they turned that into an outdoor patio space that the cafe could use.

NAC is a great gym! The equipment is plentiful and well maintained. The staff is extremely friendly. Even at itβs busiest, itβs never too busy that you have to wait. Very cool that they have a rock climbing wall.
My greatest compliment is with the class instructors; especially the bootcamp and spin classes.
Would highly recommend this gym!

Great gym with clean saunas and showers. They lost the paperwork on my cancellation and ended up charging me an extra month, which was annoying, but otherwise a good uncomplicated experience.

The gym is really nice and the range of equipment is great but some of the men that workout here are creepy, and will harass you when youβre trying to workout. If youβre a woman, you might get bothered by older men.

The gym overall has a very wide range of options to enhance your fitness & health but be aware of a lot of entitled seniors that donβt understand it. LADIES! LADIES! LADIES! Please be mindful of the men at the gym that will make you uncomfortable because the men at this gym have and will not be shy. Speak up for yourself or tell the front desk.

Northampton Athletic Club is a decent, smaller gym. Itβs in a good area and very accessible from many different directions. NAC does have a basketball court, but it is very, very small. There are often other activities occurring on the basketball court or the court is very slippery - so if youβre looking for a place to hoop DO NOT come here! In terms of the actual weights/machines - most are very old or rusty. Some machines do not have the proper equipment to adjust according to different peoples needs. Staff are mostly friendly and receptive to feedback. Thereβs a rock wall for bouldering and top-roping. Many different classes (i.e. yoga, pilates) going on throughout the week. All in all, I think the membership is over priced when considering the overall quality of equipment and workout spaces. The hours ARE NOT friendly for late-night exercisers! Hope this helps!

It's a nice gym with some good equipment but it could use some updates and more space in the weight areas. Hours are limited. Early closing and night and on the weekends makes it tough to get in there at times.

I Was about to re-up my membership until I read their covid19 protocols. Why is Northampton the only place to have these ridiculous protocols? I hope this changes soon. It won't be the first or last business I boycott.

Great gym with everything you need to get in shape. I love the class offerings (not available during the pandemic). They are doing a great job right now of organizing the space to ensure social distancing. I love that they offer private bottles of sanitizer and towels to wipe down machines. People are finally wiping down their machines after use! It only took a pandemic for people to learn to be courteous! Lol

Every Gym has its time of the day crowds. That people dont like so they think the gym. Sucks.. No you suck change your time for the gym or Shut up and lift.. you dont go to the gym for other you go for yourself. If you cant change your time. Put on headphones do what you came for if someone is on your next exercise go to another exercise. You dont have to do the samething the same way all the time... This is a Good gym I had no issues then in the same building you have 2 more options one is a Rock wall.. I have traveled a lot seen a bunch of gyms. A rock wall in a gym is impressive not the norm. Its another cardio option hand straightening last something to mix it up.. I believe its the best gym this area. If you are intimidated by it go to the shoe box down the street.

As a person who's been a gym member (at different gyms in California, in San Francisco & Newport Beach) for the past 10 yrs, active outdoors, & has a need for self-care through physical exercise + exercise community, I love NAC.
**Note: I've only attended classes, i.e. not used the machines, & only been a member for 6 mos. Check back again in 6 mos. for the update.
**Classes: P90X & P90X Tabata, Step, Hatha Yoga, Boot Camp, Vinyasa Yoga, Flexible Strength, HIIT & Sculpt!
P90X + P90X & Step: my mainstays. As my body changes & the seasons heat up/cool down, the classes warm-ups, cool downs, teacher knowledge & attention to modifications (for the many different body types in class), transitions to the different movements/combo's keep me flexible & strong! Same for Hatha! The body needs to be worked in different ways, for health maint., so I play around w/ Boot Camp, HIIT & Sculpt, Flexible Strength, & Vinyasa Yoga. Health maintenance is easier with this circuit!
**Instructors: will go above & beyond; helpful, knowledgeable, considerate, fun, & encouraging. It's hard to go wrong when most of the teachers take an evident pride in doing what they do -well- keeping the range of students in mind.
**Bathrooms: in comparison to other gyms I've seen, are *clean*
**Staff: the staff I encounter regularly are friendly & helpful.
**Amenities: sauna & steam rooms in each of their 2 locker rooms, water bottle filling station, towels & lockers for members. Indoor pool @ Amherst location only.
**Members: other class attendees are incredibly supportive & encouraging! You can find a health community here if that is a priority.
**DO: arrive early to class if you're a first timer. The teachers'll have time to orient you!!!
I have a bias towards the Pioneer Valley & am in love with Northampton. There is an amazing variety of classes at NAC!

This is a really great gym with an awesome staff. Always super clean. They provide towels to shower and locks for lockers which makes it so easy to use. Equipment is always well taken care of too and their children's play area is an AMAZING deal (plus the play area is superb and your kids will love to play in the tubes, tunnels and slide). The membership cost is definitely worth it.

Great gym has everything we needed for a full body workout during our week here for vacation. Pre-workout if you forgot too. Gym staff very friendly and helpful. 5-day pass is $60, a little expensive for my taste but that's expected with any gym as a guest

Northampton Athletic Club has a nice classes, good exercise equipment, and a generally nice staff. There is one exception, Judy Messer. One time I was running on a treadmill at 6.0 miles per hour and Judy very rudely came up to me and said "You need to be wearing a safety pin if you are going to run that fast!" as, if I was a 8 year old child. That is not the way to treat an adult member of a health club.

I love the Northampton Athletic Club. Great staff. There are two floors of weights, a basketball court, a cycling room, a cross fit setup, a whole bunch of treadmills, a yoga room, a kid's area, a rock climbing wall, plenty of weight machines, and a large variety of classes. The locker rooms also have a sauna and a steam room. The men's locker room has 6 showers, including 1 accessible shower, not sure about the women's locker room. My only criticism is the men's locker room privacy wall doesn't fully block the view if you walk by while the door is being opened. Most of the guys unlucky enough to get the lockers in view of the open door move down the bench a bit, but some don't seem to mind putting on a show. The ladies locker room does not have this problem.
