My home gym shut down for the weekend for maintenance (Downtown). I went to this location on Saturday and the associate let me use the gym. Went on Sunday and was told I can’t use the gym and needed to pay $5 to get in.

Not only is the lack of consistency frustrating, but it’s embarrassing for PF to say that they see other PF gyms temporarily shutting down as a money-making opportunity. That’s disgusting considering how Boston is sky-high expensive as it is and that most PF members don’t have an extra $5 to spend on a gym membership they already paid for.

Title: Abused and Humiliated by Staff — Completely Unacceptable
I’ve been a loyal member here for over 3 years, but my recent experience was beyond shocking. After being diagnosed with cancer, I’ve only been attending occasionally with my husband. On a recent visit, I wasn’t feeling well and went for a massage while he worked out.
The front desk employee became hostile when I explained I was there with my husband, calling me “entitled,” shouting, throwing papers, and even insulting me in front of other clients — all while knowing I’m undergoing cancer treatment. I was humiliated, disrespected, and made to feel unsafe.
The stress from this incident caused a setback in my treatment, and management has ignored my complaints while continuing to charge me. The lack of professionalism, compassion, and basic human decency is appalling.
Given the abuse and the harm it caused to my health, I am considering taking legal action. No one should ever be treated this way.

If I could I would give no star.
Planet fitness, kept overcharging me for the last 4 months which was $45 a month instead of $25 per month and when I call them to find out why this is happening, they told me I need to put in my checking account instead of my credit card. I went and I put my checking account, two days later they took $90 as if I haven't been paying. Total for 2 months I paid $180.00 buyers beware! I'll cancel it later today.

I’ve been a Planet Fitness member for about 6 years and have always appreciated the flexibility of being able to freeze my membership when I travel for long periods of time. In the past, managers have been understanding and willing to put my membership on hold as a courtesy, even though the official policy requires a doctor’s note.

Unfortunately, the new manager is extremely rude and inflexible. I requested a 3-month freeze, and instead of showing the same level of courtesy I’ve always experienced, she insisted on a doctor’s letter. This left me with no choice but to cancel my membership out of frustration.

It’s disappointing to see customer service go downhill like this. I hope Planet Fitness reconsiders who they put in charge, because with this attitude, I doubt she’ll last long in this role.

As a visitor to Boston from Barbados and very unfit at coming 63 Years of age.
My new Son in law persuaded me to go with him.
Although hesitant to start, I was shocked and overwhelmed with layout and varied equipment sited.
I have every other day or so used various equiment and now feel I have tovcontinue when I return back to Barbados as I feel much better and feel the improvenent made to my body.
Only wish PLANET can be exported so as I can continue and further improve my fitness and health.
A big thumbs up to PLANET.

This is a follow up review because I can't find my old one.this place is still one of the most lackluster Planet Fitness I've been too but it's hard to blame the staff for it. Some of the clientele here aren't accommodating of the people around them or of general unsaid gym rules and the staff don't seem to enforce rules unless asked so you will have frequently broken machines that already need an update, same with paper towel machines. You have groups of ego lifters shouting at each other, no racking weights and leaving things everywhere, also the facility is small in comparison to all the other Planet Fitness I've been too. If this place actively enforced some of the core rules the business model was based on this place would improve a lot.

Not the best PF. The equipment is old and frequently broken, there are not enough dumbbells, and the dumbbells they do have go up in 5 lb increments which is too much (other PFs dumbbells go up in 2.5 lb increments). It’s small, often overly crowded, and not well regulated. I wish staff did anything about people who leave weights all around, hoard weights, and leave trash on the equipment. Very small. Only 4 stair steppers but tons of treadmills and ellipticals. 3/4 of the stair steppers have something wrong with them - for example the handles are broken so you can’t control speed or stop the machine from the handles. Machines are old and don’t allow you to input weight so good luck guesstimating calories burned. Only one cable machine and it’s always 100% full. There are also somehow never enough filled bottles to clean up after yourself? Other PFs I’ve gone to have multiple at each station, this one doesn’t even have one bottle at every paper towel dispenser for some reason. Even the lockers are outdated compared to other PFs — you need your own manual lock whereas other gyms have combination codes you can put in, no need to bring a lock yourself. Bathroom is frequently out of soap. Wish there were more kettlebells, wish they had yoga blocks (you’re not allowed to bring your own equipment so if you want a block, too bad)…

Overall a pretty low quality gym, even for Planet Fitness’s standards. I would love to see the stairstepper machines replaced with new ones, ideally MORE but I do understand space is a concern. There are a lot of machines that I never see used though that take up so much space. I would also really appreciate addressing the dumbbell issue. There are small weights ranging from 5 - 20lbs but there’s only one tower for this. The rest are larger weights that go up in larger increments which is an issue for me to safely progressively overload. I would Love to see a second or even third dumbbell tower like the one that is currently there. I have been to several PF locations that had this, and space is not an issue as this is small. It would go well in the 30 minute circuit area.

If i can give it one star I would. First of all the manager is never there when i go, and when i call i’m told he’s not there. When I finally got in touch with management, he gave me attitude right away. The machines are always broken and it is always filthy. The floors and bathroom are always dirty. Barely any staff. Some girl with braids is always on her phone. The doors are always messed up. 0/10 do not recommend.

I rated this 2 stars only because there wasn’t an option for zero, and nobody takes 1 star reviews seriously.

I’ve been to a Planet fitness in most states in America and I can genuinely say this is the worst one by FAR and it’s not even close.

Is it too small and crowded every day? Yes

Are machines constantly broken? Yes

Is there a gang of wild 13 year olds that stand around one machine and do nothing? Yes but that’s every PF to be fair.

No matter what time of day you go to this gym, it is packed and microscopically small. There hasn’t been one day that I’ve been able to do the full workout I wanted because a machine is either being used for the entirety of the time or broken.

This planet fitness is so absolutely awful that I’ve canceled my membership after this month and am switching gyms to one that’s further away just to avoid even the possibility of gazing upon this Dante’s unnamed circle of hell.

I’m typing this while on the only treadmill that was available, where the speed increase button doesn’t work so you have to type it in manually every time you want to go up or down. Am rage typing? Maybe? Is it justified? Absolutely.

For the last week, there has been someone that has smelled so awful that the kind and nice staff had to go walk laps around the gym with 2 febreeze sprayers in each hand like they were WW2 soldiers with flame throwers and the gym was a German bunker.

The only way this planet fitness could improve is if a sinkhole in Washington St devoured the entire building and a monument was erected to remember this blight on humanity so it never happens again.

The staff here is SUPER friendly and works so hard. It’s not their fault the capitalistic hellscape we live in has Planet Fitness executive overlords that thought this tiny gym would be great for thousands of people to use a week.

TL;DR It’s basically every planet fitness but worse.

Decent variety of machines for cardio and weight training. It does not seem like the best supported PF in the chain because some machines that have been broken for some time have stayed broken or some public cleaning supplies aren't replaced regularly, but the staff will step in where they can.

It gets the job done for $10/month.

I also LOVE the Caribbean vibe in there. From languages to music to body type. I feel comfortable moving around with a bit more curve to me.

I have not used the “VIP” area to review.

I have been to PFs all over MA and NH, and this is hands down the worst one. Tiny, cramped, and the free weight area is full of dudes dramatically dropping weights and all that BS. Staff listen to headphones and don’t want to be bothered. Machines are broken constantly. The lockers are built out of particle board/MDF and are not secure—every other PF I’ve been to has metal lockers. It’s good that it exists, but the quality is low.

This is the PLANET FITNESS IN JAMAICA PLAIN… I live right up the street from this gym..and so whenever they were first open I signed up it!! Now me personally I hadn’t been in the gym in a few YEARS (at that time). So ofc when I’m NOT AT ALL COMFORTABLE bc of my weight,looks ETC.. it was very intimidating to start working out! BUT AT PLANET FITNESS HERE!, It’s full of amazing people and amazing staff!! It’s absolutely 100%CLEAN! The staff are so supportive & if everrr need any help or support in the gym,they’ll always be ready to assist!!! I ABSOLUTELY RECOMMEND JP
PLANET FITNESS! I’ve even got my 15 year old son working out here with me! Which then now HE’S GOT A FEW FRIENDS OF HIS WORKING OUT HERE NOW TOO!! So that being said,… you try it out for yourself! Won’t regret it!!!!

We went yesterday, the 18th of March. My brother and I just needed to shower, we were willing to sign up for a pass but used our free day passes to check out the vibes because we’re ‘passing’ trans men. When I asked the front desk person what the situation was for trans mascs, if we could use the men’s room, he laughed and said yes so I was hoping it would be ok. There were five shower stalls in the men’s room and only ONE was working. It was my first time in a gym but I’m confused, why do I get a door with a lock to poop but only a shower curtain to be naked and shower? That seems like a major design and safety flaw. My brother and I were clocked as trans, we had men following us, circling us in the men’s room and some of them were talking in Spanish about ‘the women in the bathroom’. We are masc passing to many cis women, so our safe option as trans people would be to… not use a restroom at planet fitness, because women confront us about being in the wrong bathroom and men will harass/laugh at us for being in the men’s room? I’m bamboozled because planet fitness is advertised as a safe space for everyone, including trans people??? When in reality they are NOT. If yall want to CLAIM to be a queer safe space, perhaps have single stall options for showers with LOCKS. At least don’t LIE about being a trans friendly space when yall are NOT. Saying we can use our preferred bathroom doesn’t make it safer, especially when the only thing protecting our nudity is a cheap shower curtain anyone could open. Shame on yall, I’m thoroughly horrified and disappointed.

Some equipment broken over 1 years. (Leg extension incremental weights tab missing). I let them know one of the elliptical machines has a loose arm that somebody's going to get hurt on that happen right after the installation and they never touched it. Somebody is going to get hurt on machine 23. Men's hand dryer a half of a year or more. So much broken equipment for over a couple of months. No shower soap going on two weeks. Constantly moldy, dirty showers. Staff is friendly and helpful but not empowered to keep this place in good shape. I blame this on the franchisee, not the staff.

I am updating my review since I have been going here for 2 years now. While I appreciate the convenience of the location the customer service is lacking. There are only a handful of staff that acknowledge you upon entering. It is so disheartening when the paper towels or cleaning solution are out, when you see 3 staff standing around the front desk. I have completed several online surveys to try to address the issue with broken or missing parts on machines and I only use 2! I feel like staff should be checking all of the equipment and making notes. Some of the stationary bikes are sluggish to pedal so it impedes your workout. I did appreciate actually getting an email response to my last survey and would be open to discussing my feedback,

I can completely understand the parking issues. This location has only 21 parking spots which includes with VITA apartment residents.
One of the worst location not to workout peacefully with several issues at this PF.

District manager Carlos, branch manager Romeo are failed to accomplish their duties at this location.

No matter what you need to wait for barbell machine and other workout equipments for anytime. Club is not even cleaned properly and most of the time no hand soap for hand wash in restroom area.
* Keeping the signs in front “CLEAN EQUIPMENT AFTER EVERY USE” - this club not even doing minimal sanitation for months. There’s no use if you inform to front desk which is terrible specially with morning staff.
This gym hours 5-11 am on weekdays, 7-7am on weekends. In a week at least once they fails to open the gym on time. If you ask them simply they will excuses. One day they didn’t even open the gym until 5:30 am which was hilarious.

I have informed WATER isn’t working two weeks ago and I got weird reply from the employee stated that “WE ARE NOT INTO MAINTENANCE ISSUES HERE, YOU NEED TO SPEAK WITH OTHER PERSON” what’s does it mean. I thought not every employee is professional and friendly here.
- Black card members can’t use the equipment without facing any repair issues with lounge because it never works properly, they don’t even care about the customers.
- Location has four showers, two weren’t working from last two months. Please see the pictures I have attached, has water worms in showers, this is how they sanitizes.
- Basic need for everyone is water, which isn’t working last two weeks. Location staff and district manager simply mentioning they did their job. Other locations when water isn’t working they provide water bottles to the customers for free of cost. This location is charging every customer for water since last two weeks. If you say some issue to the employees or manager they not even show any interest to listen to the customers. This is one of the worst customer service experience from this location which isn’t really great from everyone in this club.
- Some of the employees are really nice and great the customers, some of them don’t even know that they working or standing at front desk watching their phones, just wearing a uniform. I never faced these kind of experiences at any other PF club.

Carlos (District Manager) called after my survey submission. He isn’t even professional on phone with his customer. I got to know that, there’s no use to speak with him also realized that he is not professional as the same way of his team.
*I hope the corporate closely keep an eye on this location to serve the local communities best in the area. I wish any regulatory or state sanitation checks this location to follow the state sanitation procedures in fitness center.

Trash - water machine has been out of order for the past two weeks, there are only two foam rollers available, no dedicated space for functional movement or stretching, mats are cracking/falling apart, bosu balls are unusable. Only positive are the staff, who are friendly, but have very little ability to fix these problems.

Amazing gym but i cancelled my membership as I never really came for a workout here. All the machines that I tried were working and in a clean condition. Parking could be a huge challenge as there is very little space in front of the gym

I have had mixed feelings about this place, ever since it opened. They have always had great difficulty getting staff, so presumably that's becuase they won't pay the going rate. This has meant in the past that the basic stuff does not get done. One obvious example is the paper towel dispensers, which are often empty, though it only takes a minute or two to change them. The treadmills seem to break down much more than at other clubs, so there are always a few out of action, which suggests they won't pay the maintenance either unfortunately. It's a mixed bag, it has improved in some ways but probelms persist because they are not addressed.

I just want to give a special shout to Kendrick at the JP Planet Fitness!

I came in exactly one month ago feeling defeated and ready to quit my membership. I walked to the front desk and, not knowing who he was, I asked to cancel. Before I could express why I wanted to quit, he rattled off all the reasons why I shouldn't and offered to help me as my personal trainer. Since my first day back not only has he been amazing helping me properly use the machines, adjust my form and encouraging me to push myself, but he'd always greet me with a smile and a high five and say "I'm proud of you!" just for coming in over and over again. He even introduced me to new friends that's kept me coming back and the results physically and emotionally has made this month the BEST month I've had so far this year. Thank you so much Kendrick for helping me reinvest in my health and being the best trainer I've ever had!

Planet fitness has become a second home/office space for me; I go there to not only work on my physical health, but to work on my mental and emotional health! I’ve been with PF for a year and a half and I’ve seen a dramatic difference in my body.
The most important component to my fitness journey is: Kendrick. He’s been the most active, loving, loyal, energetic, encouraging individual and trainer since I met him a few months ago. Between our first conversation about our personal lives and goals, I immediately realized that I’m not alone and it does take a village to help you grow and succeed but it first starts with you and I’m forever grateful for Kendrick!
Thanks to him, and the other staff, I’ve built relationships with different people at PF and it feels so refreshing and rewarding.

Very crowded at evenings, many people working out in the weight training area, and it's so tight, too many cardio equipments taking up a lot of space that's not in use. We went yesterday and couldn't get any leg machine, because they were all in use. And we checked crowd meter it was showing 5 bars out of 10 bars when it was so packed.

I was searching for a gym closest to home and seen that there was a planet fitness 10 mins walking distance from my home, When I first entered the gym the first thing I noticed was how clean it looked and the staff were very polite and had a smile on their face the whole time I was there. A staff member by the name of Jovana helped me sign up for the black card and she explained the membership classes in detail and didn't leave out no vital information (I didnt know there was a annual fee two months after you sign up but I am happy that I was informed about it before signing up!) the gym was SUPER clean and although I might of came in when it was rush hour I was surprised how clean it was with so much traffic at the time. Kudos to management and the the lovely staff for creating such a clean and friendly atmosphere! can't wait to be there later today for my monday workouts!
