Great size great staff and great location! Coming here after visiting the Central one is night and day difference. Bigger, more equipments, and cleaner/newer facility. Shout out to the staff Gabe for making me felt welcome coming to this site the first time. Crowd die down around 7 PM weekday (video taken on Wednesday in Oct) so it’s good that it’s not too crowded. Conveniently located close to T station, many nice restaurants on first floor and next to shopping center. Worth the commute!

Excellent gym - but the water flow from the sinks in the women's locker room barely work ? Also, if you stocked the fridge with gatorade zero, I would buy them.

Edit: I’ve seen new faucets in the women’s locker from and fridge stocked with Gatorade zero. Amazing!

I stopped by to work out at the location above. Let me explain this nightmare and hassle.....

At first I had a basic membership. I was told by TYLER I need to spend $5 or switch to their Gym in Porter SQ. I told him I dont need the receipt for $5 he said just in case... the gym is only open for an hour or so .. who's going to harass me to see if I paid??? There is 5 people in the entire gym...

Then I told TYLER that I'll just upgrade on my app then and there. The picture attached shows I have a black card now on 9.25.2025. He kept arguing that it may not work on the app because people are complaining about the app. I told him my app in fine. Then I asked TYLER now that I upgraded what gyms am I allowed to use.... He went into the policy and procedures which I didnt ask for. Keep in mind it's 10:30 by this time and they close soon. I walked out PISSED of dealing with being HASSLED after traveling a long distance to work out.

Black Card members need some CLEAR information on where they can and cannot work out. Because it states we can use ANY GYM GLOBALLY!!! Please Retrain your people. I removed my information for privacy on my Black Card Membership. See Pictures.

Been going here for about a year, overall not a terrible gym, but the bathrooms are pretty disgusting. However, in the past month me and my friend have both had money taken from our wallets which were stored in bags in the locker room. Both times this very odd employee (guy literally has no sentient awareness and doesn’t get social cues) was in the locker room when we initially stored our bags inside, so thinking it might be him who ended up stealing from us. In specific, the person who stole from our wallets left our cards behind but took all the cash (around 300 dollars between us).

Edit after two years: I have now been using this gym for two years (August 2023 – August 2025), and I must say it has improved. The equipment is better maintained, and the overall atmosphere has become more welcoming. The personnel is still mixed: some of them are super nice, while others don’t even look at you or say hello. I spent a lot of nice hours training there, and honestly, now that I am moving back to France, I realize I will actually miss this place.

Original review (after 6 months): The main attractiveness of the place is the price. Otherwise, it’s ok, but the free weight section is way too small and therefore crowded, while they have a huge running and biking section almost always empty. The equipment can stay unrepaired for several weeks (i.e the pulley for more than 4 weeks…!!!) and nobody seems to care. Some crew members don’t answer when you say hello. Hopefully some others are super friendly.

I wwnt to this location because I was in the area this seek. I find that the gym i BIG. Of course, it seems kinda awkward, the positioning of the gym undergound but ince you are down there, you find a large area with the cardio and weights. The locker rooms are positioned awkwardly as well as they aaare within the "stretching" area. However, it features plenty lockers in a strange setting but much much space. Great big urinaal/toilet area. The showers are also in a private setting and I even spotted rooms (literally, with closet doors and all) signed as changing room. Super awesome. The setting it self of the workout area is, just different and it took me a whille to figuer everything out. At a point I thought that there was no black card spa, but then walking thru, I found the area. Didnt get to experience it in this visit though. All and all, the space is worth the exploration. I did go at 11am-ish sonit wasnt all to busy. The employees were very nice and the gym seemed pretty clean. I did see that the employees were around doing cleaning. Nice wxperience and I did get to do a good workout .

I think it is a good place for workouts in Cambridge. It could be cleaner, but for 10 dollars a month, I have no complaints. The gym is not congested most of the time I go. People going to the gym are of different ages and levels. It accomplishes the slogan; Judgement Free Zone!

It's a planet fitness. Doesn't always smell the best and can get crowded during the peak hours, but they've made some updates to their equipment recently that I think have really benefited the space (more plate loaded machines alongside the cable machines). The women's locker room is always clean and the staff is super kind and helpful—no problems there!

Main downside is that there are only two smith machines (and no squat racks!!). So if you're a serious lifter this is probably not the place for you.

On Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at approximately 6:18pm I've checked in for a workout at planet fitness in porter sq, Cambridge MA. A young white male at the desk has stopped me and prevented me from moving forward, claiming that a new management has taken over this place, and I was required to stay in front of a camera for my picture to be taken, "because they don't know who you are."

I noticed that you didn't ask the white woman who has just used her phone to sign in like I have to stand for a picture, I've inquired. A very aggressive black woman then said: "I'm the manager. You're not going to workout unless you have your picture taken. What happened to my profile? You have my information along with my driver's license. The new management doesn't have access to it, I've asked? She replied that:"we need to take your picture." While I was there, two people showed up using their phone to check or sign in without having their picture taken. I need an explanation.

Miguel, the manager needs to change his name to SWEET BABY ANGEL!!!! I am a black card member. Embarrassed that I have an injury which makes most work outs not okay for the time being I haven't been going in.
After really bad sleep and a rough P T session nearby I made the decision, despite the shame to just go into to use the massage chairs.
I felt awkward about it and started confessing that I wasn't even going to to attempt exercise.

He made me feel so comfortable and that I was truly in a 'judgment free zone"

While he was dealing with my verbal incontinence he handled several member check-ins and sign in for machines with absolute charm and grace.

I like this planet fitness. Everybody sanitizes their equipment after using it, they don't run out of stretching mats, weights, barbells, etc. generally people use the machines efficiently and then move on at a good pace so u aren't waiting for a long time. Usually not super crowded weekday evenings.

This is by far the worst PF location! The manager there, Miguel, has been the rudest and most disrespectful person I have ever interacted with. He seem to not understand my questions regarding my account charges and was condescending in his remarks. I've never met a manager that is as much of a model of incompetence as he is. The app charged me for a late fee bc they somehow couldn't wire the money from the bank account I accurately put into the app. I canceled the membership in person and the person didn't know how to pay off my late fee and monthly charge before I canceled. PF is now texting me every day to pay off my balance, except it blocks me from the billing website because I no longer have a membership. Just a nightmare.

It's fine, you get what you pay for. Clean and recently updated some machines, which is nice. Good location, nice to have parking. Recently while I was working out an employee used a load of aerosol air freshener in the cardio area, which was very unpleasant as i couldn't avoid breathing it in. I mentioned it to the front desk staff but leaving it here because it's a health hazard, especially to those with asthma or sensitivities.

5 stars because of how much things have improved over the past 10 years. It's notably cleaner, staff are now visible both at the desk and across the floor, and recent upgrades to equipment and layout are a vast improvement. No, it's not the Equinox but as a former BSC member, it's very comparable and far more affordable. Would still love to see faster turnaround times when equipment like a fitness machine or the AC/water fountain goes out, but these are problems I can live with. I'm not a Black Card holder so I don't know what goes on back there but I rarely see members in that area...curious if in the future the space can be better utilized for more functional fitness for all members? Keep up the great work.

I have been a Planet Fitness member for the last 4 years and I enjoy my workouts. I have been to many Planet Fitnesss in Massachusetts in the last 4 years and I am very happy with my membership. However, I will share with you a strange situation that I encountered yesterday. Yesterday at 10 pm, I went to Planet Fitness in Porter Square (1815 Massachusetts Ave, Cambridge, MA 02140) to do my routine gym workout. also My membership is registered there. However, after a while, another gym member came and started to workout with the clothes he showed in the photo. I did not want to go and warn this member. I thought this would not be right for that person and I reported it to the front desk. However, it seems that front dest did not have much to do, so this person continued his workout until the gym closed. The reason I sent you this message is that while every member cares about the clothes they wear in the gym, this member was so insensitive about it. While the whole world has just gone through a serious crisis in terms of cleanliness, such images are disturbing. I also work in heavy jobs and when I come to the gym, my clothes are dirty. but planet fitness showers and changing rooms work all the time and are clean enough. it shouldn't be this hard to take a shower or change clothes. on the other hand, i think planet fitness in porter square cambridge is the busiest and coolest place in massachusetts. this gym should be taken care of a lot more.

Had a membership here for 8 months. Moved to a different state and needed to speak with a manager to move my membership and waive the membership yearly fee due to an error on their end.

The manager constantly gives me the run-around. Every time I call (around 8 times already) she's never available. Have been trying to get a call back for 3 weeks now and nothing. I have been very respectful even tho they have wasted hrs of my time (even sent me running to my local gym on a lie.) I also believe my number has been blocked, as I have to call from a different phone to ask to speak with the manager, just to again, be told they are busy and will give me a call back which I have yet to receive. Would not recommend.

SUCH a great place! One of my favorite things about this place is the staff. Every single person that works there is kind, welcoming, and helpful. I love how huge this place is! TONS of equipment of all kinds: Weights machines, cardio machines, free weights, a 30 minute circuit area with a light that tells you when to start and stop, a stretching & abs area, large locker rooms, and a Lounge for Black Card membership holders which includes massage chairs, full body hydro massage chairs, and stand up tanning booths. Restrooms not clean, stretching area is ALWAYS smelling terrible like it is a restroom, due to it proximity to the locker rooms with the not so clean restrooms. Not sure if they ever clean their ready room area. The smell really makes one’s stomach turn. Massage chairs are falling apart and not really working according to their programs. I had a membership at this place back in 2019 not too long after when it was newly opened, but was in much better condition, seems like not much maintenance is being done or management isn’t really taking care of the place. Canceled my black card membership, for few more bucks can get a membership at another gym that’s much better than this place.

I have been with this gym for 1 year and recently moved to Central. I have tried to transfer my membership to the PF Central Square for two weeks to no avail.

The website didn't have the option for me to transfer online, and when I called they made me to go to the gym in person to fill out a form. Days later nothing happened. I left a customer request via the app and no response. I called again and the staff was friendly and jotted down my my membership# again to submit a form again(why did you tell me to go there in person in the first place then). A week later, I called again, since no change made at all, and they gave me the manager's number and told me to call him. When I called, the manager told me he was on vacation but was nice and gave me the email of the city manager (the franchisee supreme fit group). Now two days later still nothing happened.

I don't know whether they just want to hold me there until my annual payment on 9/1 or not going to transfer me at all so that I have to create a new account and pay new account setup fee. It's just so annoying that nothing happened after the several nudges.

Over the year, the gym has been alright. There are constantly some equipment pending fixes for days if not weeks. One of the three sinks in the man's bathroom has not been working for a year. But there were not many options around Porter until recently when a new gym opened above Target. I might give that a try if I were still around.

Every time I go, there are more machines out of order. Out of 15 elliptical machines, the TVs work on maybe 2 or 3. Add to that the fact that so many people think the weight stations are just places to sit and relax while they look at their cell phones, that it's often hard or impossible to get on the machine you want.

You can’t beat the $22 membership. I could be in Rhode Island and I’ll find a planet fitness… I go for 1 hr workouts and I’ll go for 20 mins. I’ll hit the massage beds the tan they don’t have saunas or pools or tennis none of that fluffy stuff but hey it’s not $150 a month either

Staff is lazy, doesn’t even bother putting the paper towels in the dispenser, just leaves them on top. They blast the music so even with sound canceling headphones with my own music playing, I can still hear their music as much. At any given time there are at least 6-10 cardio machines that are broken or feel like they’re about to break, and they stay broken for months. The women’s bathroom constantly leaks, and the drop ceiling in the stretching area looks like it’s had its fair share of leaks too. The AC isn’t on or working a lot of the time. But I guess if you only pay $10-25/mo, you get what you pay for 🤷🏻‍♀️

Unless you only do cardio and nothing else, this is easily the worst gym in the entire state. Very few weightlifting machines, no barbells, always packed. Filled with people that just sit on machines and look at their phone for a half hour, I really hate this gym from the bottom of my heart.

Edit to the owner: the gym is complete trash, whoever decided on the placement of your machines is the worst Tetris player in the history of humanity. So much wasted space

The worst experience I'm having is with Planet Fitness Cambridge! I've been trying to transfer my membership to another gym in the same network for over a year and I can't! they always make up an excuse and never solve my problem! Bad choice I made in choosing this gym!

This is exactly the reason for my frustration! When I log into the app I can't change anything at all! I have already called Planet Fitness Cambridge where I am registered to resolve this problem and I always hear the answer “you must come in person” this is impossible as I currently live in Florida, I have already tried to cancel my registration and nothing happens! I have already sent several emails and have not received any response! I've been to a Planet Fitness unit in North Miami and no one solves my problem! I just need to transfer my registration to the North Miami unit! When I enter the website the following message appears “To manage your membership, please contact your home club.” A gym chain as important as Planet Fitness with such a registration system doesn't seem like a good idea to me.

I was wrongly transferred to this branch instead of central square one by the Worcester branch. Now they refuse to transfer me to the branch I want. I have made multiple attempts to call and go in person but they don't listen. It been more than 2 months I have been forced to use an expensive black member to go the the branch closer to me. The staff here is rude and manager wouldn't help me out at all instead someone else will speak for them and make excuses to not transfer even after repeated calls and tries.

It's always SO HOT. Gyms should be kept at a temperature to where you feel slightly cold before you start working out, but this location is always overly warm from the second you walk in the door, whether it's summer or winter. This can make it a really miserable workout experience and can even be nauseating. This isn't a problem at other PF locations, so I assume it's that the staff sets it at a particular temperature

1) As of yesterday, there were five doors to lockers in the men's locker room that were missing. Some of them have been missing for weeks now. Why do I have a feeling that someone is smashing the doors to steal people's stuff? And what's the wait to have them replaced? Do they not care? Also, why am I hearing that they cannot track a robber who stole money by smashing into a locker? Do the incompetent employees and/or owners like want me to cancel my membership?
2) IDK if this is Planet Fitness's fault, but next to the small parking lot (only about 25 spaces are dedicated to PF members) is a much larger parking lot that NO ONE uses. May someone please change that?

I was robbed at this Planet Fitness.

One of the worst Planet Fitnesses I have ever been to. I live in the area and frequent this location simply because of how convenient it is to commute there. If you have any other PF’s near you, please do your best to avoid the Porter Square location at all costs.

A few weeks ago, my locker was broken into and I was robbed of all the cash I had in my wallet. I always utilize a lock on my locker, and was shocked to see the locker was completely destroyed after my workout. The top half of the locker was ripped off and my wallet was shuffled through. All of my belongings were still there, including a backpack and my airpods case. They simply only took the cash. This is revealing because to me it tells me this person has done this before and knows that by grabbing other items their location could potentially be tracked. They only took cash which is untraceable.

After notifying the front desk and filing a police report, I was told that there was simply nothing that can be done and that the Porter Square location has been hit with theft a lot in the past year. You would never know this because there are no signs whatsoever in the gym cautioning you to be careful with your items in the locker room. You’d only know if you have a keen eye and survey the locker room for how many lockers are completely destroyed, signifying theft.

After confronting the staff after the fact, they were able to accomodate me with 3 months of membership which I appreciated. I cancelled my membership due to the on-going problem with he unhealthy practice of using vacuum cleaners around people trying to work out. Vacuum cleaners spread allergens, bacteria, and viruses. I am concerned about the lack of caring about the health of people in this club. The management and staff are lazy, rude, and disrespectful. Ian at the front desk is the worst.

The club itself isn’t that bad. What kills it are the people that attend and unfortunately the staff. I too have had an issue as of last weekend of somebody trying to steal my bag. I thankfully keep my keys, phone, wallet and AirPods on me when I workout. But all throughout the locker rooms the lockers are either punched it or can’t close properly. Theft is a MAJOR problem here, and it’d help if the employees would give people a heads up. When I came to them for my issue they told me it was the third time that day that someone went through somebody else’s stuff. I wouldn’t know because there aren’t any warnings. I instead that day while changing had to warn people of what was going on. Also, the showers here are extremely mediocre. They’re the worst showers I’ve used at a planet fitness. Only one of them has a proper shower head the rest are just horrible. The equipment is great, I’ve never had any issues. But it’s the concern of my belongings, the lack of communication with the employees and the cleanliness that bring this location down to 1 star for me. Easily would be a 4-5 star gym otherwise. Because of my stuff being stolen I’m switching to a new home gym but I hope that these issues here can be resolved.

I used to like this location a bunch but as of late it’s gone really down hill l. Theft in the locker room is an epidemic. Just yesterday I had the door ripped off my locker and someone tried to steal my gym bag. I had a lock on it but it doesn’t really matter if the door is made of composite wood. The only luck I had was I didn’t have anything of value in my bag.

I know things happen and I don’t blame the staff but theft is out of control and they truly aren’t doing anything about it. I counted over 40 lockers with their doors ripped off so clearly this is happening all the time. When I told the staff they just said it’s best not to use the lockers any more. Maybe you could start tracking using your logins who’s coming in going based on when the robberies are happening. Seriously DO NOT use the locker rooms and you’d probably be better off finding a safer gym.

Zero stars if I could. I moved here for the summer and wanted to get back in shape but go to any other gym if possible. I always had a lock on my locker and yet I’ve been robbed twice. The first time the individual broke my lock and took my card info and cash, and just today they broke my new lock and stole my wallet, leaving me with nothing. This planet fitness is not secure whatsoever even if you lock your belongings, and I know planet fitness says that you are responsible for your own items but this is ridiculous that stuff is stolen even though it is properly secured. The staff was normally nice but the lady I dealt with at the front desk to report my wallet being stolen was incredibly rude and had a condescending tone. Others had their belongings stolen too but she just made it seem like “no big deal, not her problem.” For someone who wanted to enjoy their summer in a new city, I’m out $100 and this has been a terrible experience and would never go back to this planet fitness location.

You should definitely join this gym. I could not be happier with what they offer for my membership. The price is so reasonable and I can travel anywhere in the US and always seem to find a gym within 20 minutes. I am able to bring a guest with me every time I go if I wish. There is plenty of equipment so even at peak hours I am not waiting for a machine or weights or even a mat. I particularly like having a rower and upright bike stair stepper, step circuit, and range of free weights. I appreciate the no judgement slogan and absolutely feel welcome in every gym.

The equipment is ALWAYS broken and they make absolutely no effort to fix it. The manager is never there to speak to about this and the staff don’t have any control over it. I only go here as a secondary gym because they have quality stair masters. Two out of the three have been broken for months. It’s absolutely unacceptable that I pay for a membership when they can’t even be bothered to maintain working equipment.

You need to remember you get what you pay for. $25 is too much for $10 is good. Paper towels go empty, plenty of social akward people, and also those who lack hygiene, no special classes really or perks. Massage chairs are OK but don't get any knots out just pressure really. Staff is chill, sometimes aloof. Usually a few machines are broken down but I've always been able to work out, just sometimes I have to chose a different area than I planned. Not a gym for serious gym rats. But I'm glad it exists, it's gets the job done.

The TV monitors were not working. After I reported the issue to the Customer Service Desk, the Assistant Manager, Osama Adam rebooted the Direct TV system and the monitors were back up. This really made my workout so much better. I really appreciate his immediate attention and solution to this issue! Thank you!

Shout out to Porter Square Planet Fitness employee Joel and (Pretty Young Lady)->Kay. They try to cancel my membership because I'm planning to go over seas for month and half but, they told me that I need too speak with the Manager for to cancel the membership and that's not a problem at all. 5 Minutes later Kay called me saying my account is already canceled but, I stated that I am still getting charged, So Kay <-So sweet, and to me that she will notify her manager about it. They were very helpful, I felt like they cared about me. (I feel like Kay didnt want me to cancel because she dont want a great customer to leave) So I'm thinking not to cancel my membership. I will call them later on & let them know. Thank you Joel and Kay. They should get a raise or a award. 😀

Convenient location, to be sure, but I don't know how many times I have found all of the soap dispensers in the men's locker room empty, which is especially disheartening in a world with Covid and monkey pox. I have mentioned this to the front desk staff and sent emails but it is always the same. There is never a "real" manager onsite (just "regular" staff) so I doubt my concerns have been passed on. Also, I am one of those dinosaurs who enjoys watching TV during cardio, yet the television signal has been non-existent for going on 3 months now. This could be a perfectly fine gym except for these issues and the fact that the front desk staff seems to completely not care about anything brought to their attention and there is never a manager to speak with, either in person or by phone.

EDIT AS OF 4/17/23: I don't know if this franchise has changed owners or what, but that have really turned things around here. Gym s always clean, soap always available and a front desk staff that is friendly and attentive and always busy doing something to help the club! I have changed my original rating of 2 stars to 4 stars!

Gets way too warm when it's more than just 10 people in the gym. Given the amount of cardio equipment people use, pf needs to lower the temp and ventilate better. Average temp on thermostat is 68F. Staff are generally nice but paper towels and cleaning materials may need to be replenished more often throughout the day/week. It would also be nice to have an expected amount of time given for public notice when broken equipment is being serviced. Pf has multiple locations and response time should be more consistent

Seriously, don't ignore the 1 star reviews, they're all saying the same things, and they have been for a while.

This is definitely the worst planet fitness I've ever been to. The water fountain is always broken, the ventilation is bad, and they mask the smell by spraying tons of fragrance. Good luck if you have asthma. Without fail there's always folks camping on the express workout machines and maybe 1/5 of the customers wipe down their machines after use.

The staff are nice and there's a ton of equipment, but the place is just kinda gross and mismanaged.

This place is extremely dirty, the locker room and the gym itself. There’s rarely any staff at the front desk. I see non members entering the gym, even a homeless guy slid in to take a long shower(can’t blame him). The customary “call the manager” response. Nothing ever gets fixed at this place. The water station. Disgusting!

They frequently don’t open on time, leaving crowds of would-be excercisers waiting in the lobby for unpredictably long periods of time. Apart from that, it’s a good value. But to get up and go to the gym before sunrise just to confront a locked door is very frustrating.

Update: I’ve come at the opening time three times this week (Sunday, Monday, Wednesday) and they have not been open ANY of those days. The lost time is a cost you should factor in when contemplating the cost of membership.
