Fraudulent company and worst management ever, all to swindle your money!

Worst gym I've ever been to and worst company I've ever dealt with. Doesn't even deserve one star. They lied to me about the fees and what the gym offered when I signed up at Shrewsbury gym, lied to me that I could pay the monthly payment using a credit card, then charged me a late fee when they thought the account they charged was a checking account and didn't go through. I gave them my checking account and paid the late fee. First strike.

They told me there weren't any fees except the monthly fee when I signed up, and that I paid the monthly fee when I signed up. But there was an annual fee and what I paid when I signed up was only the start-up fee. So I was surprised when they charged a large sum for the annual fee on my account. Strike two.

I signed up at Shrewsbury but had been using the Hadley location so I transferred to the Hadley location. The Hadley location gym stinks and smells like the bathroom plus they don't offer any classes that Planet Fitness claims to have. They told me the so called "classes" were just telling you how to use the equipment, and the personal trainer just did that and nothing else. So they don't actually have a "trainer", just employees who tell you how to use the equipment, which obviously every gym person knows. Strike three.

My 12th monthly payment should be in April, but the workers and manager lied to me that my last monthly payment was in May, and after that I could cancel without a fee, but after I cancel I would still need to pay the fee for the last month. So after I filing many complaints to the regional manager, they told me that my last payment before I could cancel without a fee was actually in April, which what I was insisting to the manager who worked at Hadley in the first place. So planet fitness workers either can't count above ten or they use all sorts of deceptions to get you to sign up and then swindle your money. Strike four.

When I was trying to negotiate with the regional manager, he was extremely aggressive, verbally violent, and just rude when he hung up on me purposely while I was talking. Strike five.

I'm out. I put a stop payment on my account and will never pay a cent to Planet Fitness ever again. The regional manager said that they will continue to charge my account each month plus charge me late fees and then send it all of it to a collection agency. I'll dispute the charges with the credit score agencies and sue this fraudulent company if I have to in the end.

They don't treat and respect their consumers like human beings. Do not become a member and cancel your membership when you can!

Stopped by Planet Fitness today to rejoin after a few years, only to find out they now require a bank account and routing number for monthly payments. When I was a member years ago, I paid with a credit card—like most people prefer. In today’s world of data breaches and identity theft, asking members to share sensitive banking information just to join a gym is not appropriate.

To make matters worse, the front desk staff were dismissive and rude. I decided to take my business elsewhere and joined a different Club instead—professional, respectful, and offers flexible payment options.

Gyms should prioritize security and member comfort, not outdated and invasive policies.

Terrible and harmful experience. In the past, a male club member was bothering me during my workout, so I had to go to another location. I notified the front desk that I was pleased with my experience at the other location because the Shrewsbury location had a club member bothering me. They asked me the male's name, and it was the same person who was supposed to be banned from all PF's for harassing women. I had to call the management of the Shrewsbury Club to inform them and ensure they would stop letting the Banner Club members in. Then, last week, I called and asked if they had the Total Body Enhancement red light-only booth, and they said yes. I went into the booth without eye protection because it was suppose to be red light only and it ended up being a UV/light booth, and it burnt and damaged my skin and eyes for the maximum time without any lotion or eye protection. The front desk person was not educated nor cared about ensuring I was about to use the correct booth. I am highly disappointed with the lack of care from the Shrewsbury location.

The gym itself is fine, one of the better planet fitnesses in the area in my opinion, in terms of cleanliness and layout. However, staff can be rude at the front door which overall dims the whole experience. My wife and I have been going for a out 10 months now. We go three days a week after work. We actually look forward to going. There are multiple ways to work a muscle so there is always some option available. The culture there is pretty much keep to yourself without being rude. It is rarely overcrowded. The ventilation is very good. It always smells neutral.

Only criticism is I wish they had a couple power cages and some battle ropes.

I have been a member of this gym since the summer of 2015 however since covid I've used other PFs around the east coast with the Black Card. Recently, I returned, since some other PF gyms began to enforce their usage limits of 10 visits per month for non-home gym members. Anyway, after coming back here I have to say this is by far now one of the worst PF on the east coast. I'm not sure whos decision it was but they got rid of a bunch of the equipment and now lack the diversity and quantity they used to have. Funny they have increased the rates they charge for newer members but are providing far less than they did 5 years ago.

I’ve been a member of Planet Fitness in Shrewsbury for a long time and it’s disappointing to say that recent changes have left me considering other options. The gym recently overhauled its music playlist, and the new, louder tracks are nothing short of annoying and irritating.

Previously, the music was a great balance—energetic enough to keep you motivated but never overwhelming. Now, it seems like the gym is targeting a younger crowd with extremely loud and fast-paced tunes that drown out the sound of your own thoughts. Instead of creating a motivating atmosphere, it’s become a source of constant distraction.

The volume level is uncomfortably high, making it difficult to focus on workouts. It feels like the ambiance has shifted from a welcoming space for all to a high-decibel party zone.

I understand that gyms evolve and that catering to different demographics is part of business growth, but this change has negatively impacted the quality of my experience. I’m now seriously considering exploring other gyms that better align with my preferences.

If you’re someone who enjoys a quieter, more balanced environment, you might want to think twice before joining this gym under its new music regime.

I don’t know who is deciding what equipment to put here but they aren’t paying attention to the people. While I do think the new layout is nice they just spent a fortune on new cardio machines that absolutely are worse than the machines before. The treadmills have a bar that block your waist if you get too close, there’s no fast button to up or down speed while running fast, half the stairs don’t work, they all have a LED display that looks like a “Roadwork Ahead” electric sign, and none of the Apple Watch connects work on any of the machines. The facelift is super depressing and a letdown. Also no arc trainers. Just go to Lincoln St, they have EVERYTHING. Hate to say it but Shrews is kind of cooked. Without solid treadmills it’s not worth it. TRX gone too. Sorry lads but is what it is.

Overall a great gym until they changed the cardio equipment this week. Personally I liked the previous brand of equipment but the new cardio machines especially elliptical are extremely finicky and don’t have many options. The also removed a whole row of cardio machines and did not replace them which does not make sense. Otherwise a great place to workout and I hope they bring the other equipment back.

I have been going to this gym for years. The staff is super friendly and gets to know you on a personal level. The staff is welcoming and encouraging. The equipment at the gym is very standard. If you go during peak times (~5pm on weekdays but you can check ahead on the app if it is busy) you will likely have to wait around for a smith machine, bench for the free weights, and even some of the weight machines. There are plenty of cardio machines so you should never need to wait for one of those. The bathrooms and showers tend to always have something wrong with at least one of them (clogged sink, backed up shower, toilet out of order). They try to keep the locker room area fairly clean. Overall I keep coming back to this gym because it is good enough for the price you are paying.

FINAL UPDATE: The ownership team behind this club made things right in the end with membership cancellation and refund which I appreciate.

I feel compelled to share my experience with Planet Fitness, which centers on years of unauthorized membership charges. This situation is made worse by their failure to provide any form of documentation that could justify these charges or the auto-renewal of a membership I never consented to. Despite my repeated attempts to address this, including a willingness to review any legal basis they might have for these actions, Planet Fitness has remained silent.

The issue began when I noticed charges for a membership labeled as "ACQURD," suggesting it was acquired from another gym. I have never authorized such a transfer or agreed to any charges by Planet Fitness. The fact that my supposed membership was auto-renewed annually without my consent—despite the "Auto Renew" option being marked as "None"—is not only unauthorized but blatantly disregards consumer rights.

I have asked for immediate cancellation of any memberships under my name. Despite my openness to a fair resolution, including Planet Fitness providing any documentation to prove a legal right to these actions, my requests have been ignored.

This lack of response and transparency from Planet Fitness is alarming. It raises serious concerns about their billing practices and respect for consumer rights. I urge potential customers to approach with caution and for Planet Fitness to address these issues with the urgency and seriousness they deserve.

I come here because it's cheap and convenient

But they have the least friendly front desk staff I've ever encountered. There were three of them just now, a guy and gal were chatting, one with their back turned. The other looked miserable, like he was doing prison labor just to ring up my protein shake.

They're not great about keeping things in order, don't empty trash until it's fully overflowing, and there aren't enough benches for both the Smith machines and free weights. I'm considering paying more just to see a staff who actually gives a hoot about their job

They closed down for renovations for a few weeks and I guess the only way to know that is to visit the location and read the sign posted there. The business number had no message to let you know that they are closed and when they will re-open. Apparently, basic members can use another PF at no charge while they are closed but how do you find that out when there is nothing posted on their app or phone message! Communication could have been handled a lot better.
