I have been going to Planet fitness in Yarmouth, MA for over 8 years. There was always a constant turnover with employees and managers. The bathrooms were always dirty, no toilet paper in stalls, paper towels were empty, machines broken etc. It was completely horrible until Nancy came to work as the manager. She was extremely helpful and was a one woman show. Even though she worked allot of hours, she smiled and actually cared. The gym was completely transformed. She made a difference in the members and we all loved her. However, now that she is gone (no fault of her own) the floors are back being dirty, dust everywhere, bathrooms are dirty, main floor dirty, and it’s really upsetting to go to the gym everyday and see the place a mess. We now have a new manager who never smiles. Employees are constantly on their phones and god forbid you ask them to do something, they make it known you are bothering them. I can go to any other planet fitness in Massachusetts and they’re clean and well kept. The planet fitness in Yarmouth is really convenient to my house and I enjoy working out. I just wish the employees and current manager cared as much as our previous manager, Nancy. It’s a shame that no one takes pride in keeping the gym clean. So now we’ll probably go through another round of employees quitting until we get another manager like Nancy. Very disappointing.

They took out the old equipment and put in the. The problem is they put half the equipment back in. Cardio section is a fraction of what it was. It’s tough to get on any weight equipment cause there is so little equipment. If you can’t afford to stock a gym like you’re supposed to, you shouldn’t open one.

The recent "upgrade" is quite a downgrade. It looks like a once popular gym now halfway through going out of business. I don't think that is the intention, but that is the impression that it leaves.

Many of the machines that I use in my routine are gone ... And maybe on some other day I will come back and find new machines/exercises to fit my now machineless slots... But that's not why I came here today. I just wanted to do my workout. These are the things that make you ask, "why?"

The music is STILL too loud. It should not be so loud that it gets through my personal headphones. Complaining about this has not helped in years back, so it probably won't help now. Another improvement would be to get rid of the TV screens. The gym is my escape from that. For these two reasons, I prefer the Hyannis location because the TV screens are higher and easier to ignore and the music level is kept low.

The gym has great equipment and even when it's busy, everything runs smoothly. The front desk staff is friendly and helpful. However, the water fountain often needs better cleaning — it sometimes has mold, which is unpleasant. The shower curtains also seem to have mold and could use more attention.

I’ve been a PF member for 20 years and go to many gyms around the area. Every club is slightly different. This one is clean, and seems to be a decent size but is lacking equipment. There is often a wait for a lot of the equipment. In addition, I hate leaving negative reviews on staff; but there is a crabby older man that works the front desk. He snaps at new customers and is rude. Luckily there are other front desk staff that are polite and helpful.

I've been going to this gym for over a decade, and it's certainly gotten better and cleaner over the years. But there's an inundation of Fox News blasting from 3-4 screens every time I go in. Once, it was even in the bathroom. For anyone that thinks Fox is simply one conservative side of the media, it has long established a pattern of framing stories to favor one view, with its programming driven by opinion and escalating sensationalism. As someone with a Communications degree, I'll also stress that it's not even credible. In the Dominion Voting Systems defamation case, it came out that Fox News executives were aware that allegations of "election fraud" were false, yet they chose not to correct them, saying fact-checking was “bad for business.” Even when their own hosts privately expressed doubt about these false claims, the network continued broadcasting them anyway, just to retain viewers. Tucker Carlson, their former host, literally called it "turning up the propaganda hose, to full blast, and just trying to knock elderly... viewers off their feet." Again, it's not news; it's propoganda. And we shouldn't be subjected to it (even if the owner wants it) while we're working out.

I grew up going to this planet fitness and when I tried going a few weeks ago, it was a disaster. The benefits: it's pretty clean, the equipment is new and not much is broken, there's plenty of cardio. The bad- the bad is very bad. There is not enough equipment. Everything on the floor had a wait, and a lot of people were paired up. My workout was cut short because I could not wait for every machine. My recommendation: add equipment or expand the space and add equipment. I'm going to try the Hyannis location next time I am down to see if it is any better because this one won't cut it.

UPDATE: 6.10.2025 They recently removed the 30 minute express work out area/equipment upstairs. I used this as part of my workout routine; as I felt more comfortable in this area upstairs. They also updated some equipment and removed alot of machines. Now, when it is crowded; you may have to wait to use machines.

This has become the worst gym on Cape Cod. Genius ownership decided to get rid of 50% of the equipment to make it "more airy, and improve the quality of air" (there was never a quality of air issue - i have been going to this gym for 5 years now). They got rid of 2 of the most popular chest presses (both incline and regular)(which are literally at every other Planet Fitness I have ever been to). They got rid of several other popular equipment pieces so now they are lines on every station. It is absolutely bizarre the stupidity behind this move - it is like the ownership decided they needed money and sold equipment under the pretense of "improving air quality" (which is a real hoot considering they offer free membership for summer for kids and college students - which overpopulates this place drastically). Avoid this place until they fix this issue - you will not regret it.

Go to any other location in the area (Hyannis, Cotuit) unless you love waiting even when it isn't crowded. The remodel got rid of half the machines (for example they replaced 4 adductor/abductor machines with 1). According to an employee it is because there were complaints that it was crowded, hot, and dirty. The crowding issue was never with the amount of equipment, it is still hot, and surprisingly dusty considering they were just shut down for 2 days to "upgrade". I can only imagine how much worse it will be when tourist season begins or a machine breaks - there is already one that is out of order!

I have been a guest at PF's all over thanks to my partner's Black Card. As a former gym member at several spots, I wasn't keen on the PF model for a few reasons. In Dec. I joined as a Black Member so I could visit any location. The S. Yarmouth location has never been my fav as it's frequented by really old people that congregate around the machines and socialize and others find a seat and scroll and scroll and staff do nothing. I realize this is the case in the gym industry and not a PF issue but somehow this systemic issue needs to be addressed at PF. They have signs about every other rule. Anyway, I digress. Before May 21, the S. Yarmouth location was tired and worn. The equipment was packed in and the new machines I have found in Wareham and other gyms weren't available here. Also the back room was packed with old ancient Precors that no one used. Well, May 21 and 22 the franchise owners stepped up and remodeled and did a great job. There is space and room to move. Old stuff is gone and in came the new machines; calf, hack squat and more. I am THRILLED. They also revitalized an upper area to create another space for free weights. Thank you owners, you did a great job. Please put up a sign reminding members not to scroll...there are less machines and this could be a greater issue.

I don’t normally write reviews but I felt I should. I’ve been coming here for about 4 years - I’m not a gym rat but I exercise for health benefits. This location just got new equipment in and got rid of a lot of machines. There is now only one hip abduction machine and a lot less treadmills. I’m excited about some machines (and that there are more smith machines) but I was disheartened to see that there are much less of the more commonly used equipment. I’m not above waiting around for a machine, but it’s gotten to the point where there is almost always someone waiting to use the machine as soon as you start your first rep. It’s uncomfortable to have someone watch you while you work out and it is also uncomfortable to have to line up next a machine in order to use it. What concerns me is that I encountered this before tourist season and during the work day. This problem will only be exacerbated by the onset of tourists and high schoolers come the summer.

It’s odd that this location also took away the equipment that is most accessible to people with limited mobility - like those with physical limitations and/or the elderly. This seems like an odd business decision based on the sheer amount of elders who reside on the Cape year round and have been patrons of this gym for many years. America’s population is also aging as a whole, so this is a sad oversight to see. I think it’s great that planet fitness has been helping younger people like me become more active for years now, however this location also needs to be mindful of their other demographics when making decisions like this. I think the biggest question is why didn’t this location ask consumers what they wanted for new equipment and for feedback before this. But then again, I’m not sure how much control they have over what machines are sent, although they should. Most of the people I chatted with recently at planet fitness were surprised at the lack of machines. And for being noted on Google as a “wheelchair accessible gym” - the elevator rarely works.

Sorry, but I feel this remodel is a serious downgrade, not an overall improvement. The removal of equipment often used is troubling and I suspect you will hear more of the same from other members. Have been coming here for almost 12 years and can see the disaster waiting to unfold in the coming weeks. Heard a few members expressing their unhappiness this afternoon as well and it's not even peak season yet. There were certain duplicates of equipment that shouldn't have been removed.

Been going to this PF for over 10 years, usually go during off hours to avoid the rush and waiting for machines. They just finished a remodel and brought in all new equipment. Although, some of the new machines are good additions, they culled about half the equipment that actually got used. 11:30am on a Thursday BEFORE summer and I had to leave due to long waits for machines. If your waiting for equipment when it's not even busy god help you if you have to workout during peak hours or the summer months on Cape. Hopefully managment realizes this and brings in equipment to fill in all the empty floor space they created in the remodel😬

Saturday afternoon 5/3/20/5 at 2:15 Yarmouth MA. Tried to walk in and join. Place is quiet with Two staff people with absolutely nothing to do. They couldn't be bothered to assist me. One even said I don't get paid to sign people up and told the other person to just let me sign up online- coaching the other staff person not to assist. Pointed at a screen and said sign up there. I made an attempt but had issues. I asked for assistance and they basically ignored me. No help. I walked out.

I have not been in many Planet Fitness’s, but this one is quite nice and there are always plenty of machines. Machines do get broken quite a lot, however it’s not the gym’s fault, and this goes for most locations, it is not much of an issue.

I have had a lot of issues in the past with memberships and other policies, however this does not pertain to this location at all and is just a result of the company at a whole.

In the end, this gym does what it is meant to do. Lots of people expect it to be an amazing experience but it’s a cheap chain gym. How much do you want? (It’s no commitment as well so no use complaining, just cancel your membership!)

I moved and have a Black card membership. I have been the my new club in my new town to change my address. They tried several things but were finally told the address needed to be changed in South Yarmouth. I called that club and was told I either had to come into the club, this is a 2.5 hour drive one way, or write a letter and snail mail it to the club. In todays world this is the answer! Been a member for a while and I like the gym… I use to look forward to doing my cardio and they would have 2 news channels I could bounce back and fourth on. For some reason in the past few months the channels constantly change and sometimes the volumes are turned off. I use to love this gym, but they have made a fatal mistake. They got rid off all the elliptical and arch trainers and replaced them with Matrix machines, they are terrible. The machines do not have clearly marked levels to choose from and the sides are so tight a normal size person can barely fit in it, and overweight people! Clearly discriminating against obese people. So much from a judgement free zone........ who's idea was it to replace all machines with this matrix device? They should be fired. I will be contacting all Advocacy groups about this, it is beyond insensitive, it excludes and discriminates.
UPDATE: I contacted Planet fitness through email and all they did was claim they do no discriminate. They asked if I talked to a manager and that was it! After that, there was no more messages...... real caring.

Amazing staff, clean gym but, terrible ownership! TVs haven’t been working for over a year now. They go in and out and you never know if you’ll be able to listen to the TVs. The owner says to go to the manager but the manager has no control over it being fixed and the owner does NOTHING about it. Just one of his clubs that he puts absolutely NO effort into. My wife and I were down the Cape and wanted to workout so I decided to go into the South Yarmouth location for a day workout. We went to the front desk and asked how much we were shocked that it would cost 20 dollars for each of us to work out. When I asked why it was so much I was told that we are the lowest priced gym and were looking for memberships . I visited this gyn while on vacation. I found the staff to be very friendly, and the gym to be clean and with some of the latest equipment (see the hydro massage beds), even though it’s an older gym. The parking lot was also a pleasant surprise as there was plenty of space for us to park with the extra wide parking spaces.
My only issue with this planet fitness was when I went to use the hydro massage, the front desk just said, “all set”, so I went in and fiddled with the start button like all the other Planet Fitness’s have; that I’ve used; and nothing. I played with the start button for a couple of more minutes; then I decided to ask the front desk what’s wrong. After going back and forth for a couple of minutes, I got them to explain what and where the BLUE button was. It turns out it’s on the wall above the bed, not on the screen. I had never heard of a BLUE button before. Anyway, it came right on; once I pushed the BLUE button, so I started my massage. After a few minutes a woman came up to me and interrupted my great massage, and said, “how did you get this thing on”. The front desk must have noticed her asking me questions, because someone came in and started to explain to her the BLUE button (another vacationer with Planet Fitness experience). I would think that most of their summer patrons are vacationers, and they should know that they need to explain things like this before they just send them on their way, if it wasn’t for the infamous BLUE button fiasco I would have given them 5 stars not 4.

Megan was awesome! We're from out of town and needed a gym for 3 weeks. She helped my wife and I choose the plan that was right for us. The staff here are always nice and helpful but I’ve been very frustrated with the lack of maintenance on machines. One of the two stair climbers has been out of operation for about three months, with a sign on it that says they’re working to quickly get it working again. They only have two, even though this is a very popular machine. The PF in Hyannis has four. I (try to) use the stair climber machine basically every time I go here but usually have to wait for someone else to get off it. I’ve spoken to the really nice staff at the front desk about this issue multiple times and they’re always apologetic but again it’s been nearly three months and if they can’t fix the machine they should just buy a new one and maybe add a few more to be comparable to what PF Hyannis is offering. Hoping this review will get some attention from the folks who make those kinds of decisions.

UPDATE: After seven months (May 2022 to December 2022) PF has finally fixed the stairclimber. Hoping they're able to add some additional stairclimbers in the near future because they still only have two compared to Hyannis' four.

I like a lot! The one in South Yarmouth and the one in Masphee are the best, the one in the Mall is very crowded, depending on the difficult schedule the machines that can do weight training...

They charged me for a whole year while I tried to cancel my membership 3 times. The front desk will just ignore you while standing there. The equipment is pretty good but they offer no classes.. I'm happy I finally left.

Terrible.
I would advise anyone signing up for a membership to read the fine print and make sure they understand what they’re signing up for.
Their associates wouldn’t hesitate lying to you in order to get a “referral bonus” or whatever their incentive to sign up people is.
I’ve been misled and literally lied to by one of their employees here in the South Yarmouth location.
The regional manager is supposed to contact me in order to resolve this, but I won’t hold my breath just yet.

Follow-up , 2 weeks later.

I was in touch with a manager a couple of days after this.
Once she realized the situation she offered me a refund and downgrade.
I have yet to receive the refund.

Today when I asked for it at the front desk I got a visibly irritated staff "manager is not here, I will leave a note" followed by "you're all set, go now" and she wouldn't hear anything else.
When I asked why is she so irritated "I had a stressful day".

She keeps telling me the person that misled me no longer works here(which is none of my business) , but I saw him working here on Wednesday (2 days ago)
I'm not sure if that's funny or sad.

This situation is really absurd.

The situation since then has been resolved. ✅
Yesterday I spoke to the new manager of the FC - Michelle.
She was very respectful, empathetic and professional, how I believe all PF staff should be.
She actually listened,helped and assured me such situations won't arise going forward as she is trying her best to bring the club back in shape.

Wir hätten gerne während unseres Urlaubs für zwei Wochen hier trainiert, aber die junge Dame an der Information gab uns zu verstehen, dass es dafür keine passende Mitgliedschaft gibt. 20 $ pro Person pro Training war uns dann doch zu teuer. Ein Wochenpass-Modell wäre wünschenswert.

Club is going down hill. No one at front desk at 6am. Just walk in. Several TV's not working. No News programs to be found. Went this am and left after 5 mins. Disappointed for sure!

Being a PF member at home, I used this gym with a day pass on vacation. I didn't have any complaints, they had every machine I wanted to use. Clean gym and locker room. Not too packed. Only piece of advice to the owners I have is that the water pressure in the bathroom sinks is really low. That could be looked at.

NEW 1$ MEMBERSHIP WHAT A BARGAIN!! I am here on vacation with my family for a week and I wanted a gym to workout at. I usually wouldn’t choose Planet Fitness because they lack free weights and as a serious lifter that’s a BIG NO (similar to the Cape Cod Creamery’s Butter whipped cream). I also am not a fan of the lunk alarm since I am occasionally clumsy and may drop a weight here and there. However, their system broke, so they gave me a 1$ Membership with a guest for a month! Clearly they’ve really got there stuff in order! Great staff they definitely know what they are doing! And I am still able to get a decent workout while on vacation!

So much for judgement free zone...TVs carry far right wing biased shows. It's not hard to play stations from the middle...it kinda ruins the whole experience. Let the bias stay at home. This is supposed to be a place to get fit. Put on sports...but lose the politics!

Been waiting for 15 minutes for someone to come to the front desk called several times. No one's even answering the telephone. Seems to be a frequent issue over here...Lights seem to never be fully functional in tanning beds and booths! About a month ago they said the tanning beds were shut down on a Wednesday so that they could change all the bulbs I went tanning today use the stand up and there were seven bulbs burnt out again this is the planet fitness in South Yarmouth not the one in Hyannis The one in Hyannis seems to be on their game unfortunately I don't work in Hyannis anymore in South Yarmouth as close up but I will be going back to the Hyannis location even though it's not convenient.
