For starters, the positives: the equipment is really great. There's machines and peripherals that aren't available at most other gyms. The ethos of prioritizing functional fitness is really clear. Some of the coaches are kind and helpful.
Unfortunately, the negatives: the business model & gym layout aren't really intuitive. There's a base flat fee, and there's a lot of tiered upcharges that feels visibly exclusive. Among those I counted, there's an added charge for each of the following: 1) gym access on Sundays, 2) access to certain premium weightlifting equipment, and 3) access to classes. While I'm generally a fan of the "pay only for what you need" subscription models, the space isn't thoughtfully designed for it. It's hard to explain concretely, but as a new member, having the base membership only feels like Neflix with ads ... but you can only see some shows, and only on some days. Which doesn't feel great for a membership of $100.
There was one coach in particular that was rather condescending when I didn't know some of the particular rules of the gym. The check-in process is clunky and pretty manual, and knowing which equipment you have access to (or don't) based on your tier isn't intuitive. For example, there's one deadlift that base rate members are permitted to use, but you're forbidden to use the barbells on the wall right next to it. I didn't know, and I was chewed out for it.
Regular members seem to like the gym, and there's a camaraderie here. The rules, design, and one coach in particular made me feel unwelcome.

Rx has become more than just a place for me to lift weights, it is the place I go when I need a break. It has truly changed my life for the better. To me, it is truly the greatest gym on earth.

not ideal, you pay premium, uneven numbered stickers to level safety pins, new quad machine janky. Very limited hours unless you pay extra. Even more to use half of the rest of gym. You'll get blocked in during busy times too.
Edit: take some de escalation classes as an owner, you started huffing and puffing for a fight with a confrontational coach after he mocked me for calling out his attitude. There is a reason i heard from other members issues about you and your staff. Hopefully you change your ways for more business :)

This place is amazing! I have been to many gyms over the years and this has been my best experience ever. Jeff and his team provide a friendly welcoming atmosphere with exceptional personal training. I was at my lowest point a few years ago from a fitness perspective and Jeff helped me to build back to feeling great and being the strongest Iβve ever been. This has been truly life changing. I rarely write reviews but this place is one of those rare gems! The gym has many people who are competing and winning competitions, novices just looking to get in shape and every level between- and it all fits together seamlessly thanks to the great vibe and staff. I highly recommend

Unique, exciting programs, and welcoming to all! I was so impressed by my personal training sessions (in kettlebell proficiency) with Jeff. *Absolutely for anyone* looking to grow and evolve their strength training- no matter your level.
Iβve been to manyyyyy many gyms all over the Boston-North Shore, and I canβt recommend enough checking it out and finding your focus!

Friendly staff and not too crowded. Probably the best selection of equipment I've seen in a private or commercial gym when it comes to free weights. Legitimately anything I could think of they had it.

Killer setup here at this powerhouse of a gym. Super nice owner and chill crowd. More importantly, very well equipped with everything needed to clang & bang.

So great to have connected with the nice folks at Rx Strength Training when I was visiting this week in the Boston area. All the right equipment and plenty of it. Lots of weightlifting platforms, full sets of plates in either kg or lbs. Very welcoming atmosphere and it was easy to see that the regulars had excellent gym etiquette - even the "fur members", who seemed very comfortable in this gym. Thanks for hosting me when I needed to drop in. Highly recommend!

Im wondering if the little olympic weightlifting room with the orange/brownish walls are open for public use or is that a part of the gym normal people cant enter. Because in the video that i saw it doesnt show that room and it only shows the main part of the gym with the grass and the poweracks.

This is a top notch facility! It's awesome to have access to an elite training facility and equipment at a good price. The environment is terrific because both the coaches and the members have a very high level knowledge of how to improve fitness. They also almost have every piece of equipment that you could possibly desire and even when it's busy you can easily get your training done. A big focus on power lifting/olympic lifting here, but you can train for any sport here. Motivating environment.

I move regularly and have lifted in dozens of gyms in dozens of cities--Rx Strength is easily top 3. The staff, equipment, atmosphere, training programs, and teams are superb. Staff: knowledgeable, professional, easy-to-reach, responsive. Equipment: stellar, constantly evaluated, regularly updated. I do Olympic and powerlifting and found anything I could want. Atmosphere: I was in the midst of grad school and nobody batted an eye if I need to quick knock out a few pages of reading; everyone was welcoming and generous; and the teammates were great. Programming: individualized, helpful, and made big strides in my form (particularly in Oly). Teams: great fun, great mutual care and support--what more could I want?

Had a lot of fun here. This gym offers an Olympic weightlifting club, as well as the equipment to solo train in weightlifting, power lifting, or any barbell training if that's your thing. They also have kettlebell classes with great coaching and a great open gym setup. LGBTQ+ friendly. Staff was super nice. Only left because I had to move, but if you want a gym with terf, barbells, metal and bumper plates, kettlebells and dumbbells' this is the best gym in the area, in my opinion.

Trained here a handful of times. Unfortunately the weightlifting room is relatively small given the amount of people training there. Limited coaching options and availability. Inconsistent quality in coaching, some coaches were extremely lacking compared to others. I'd recommend searching for a different gym.

Dropped in the gym for the last 2 mornings and could not have been more impressed. Before our trip, I had called and left a message asking about dropping in; Jeff called back within an hour and encouraged us to stop by. I was excited to hear they had platforms and kilo plates! My brother loved all the fun toys: sleds and sand bags! The gym was well kept and the most organized I have ever seen. There were so many pieces of equipment, but everything had a place and was returned to that place. This left plenty of space for various activities. I was also impressed observing Jeff coach and how the individual members moved so well. The staff was very friendly. Showers and parking were handy too. If I lived in this area of Boston, Rx Strength Training is definitely where I would be training!

I have trained with Jeff for 7 years, and I cannot recommend him enough. Jeff is very enthusiastic, and brings a passion to training that makes it very enjoyable as well as fruitful. Jeff expertly tailors a program to what you are looking to accomplish, and always keeps up with the latest training innovations. I don't think I have ever seen someone enjoy their job as much as Jeff, and that is reflected in training sessions. He pushes you to achieve, and does so in a very positive manner.

RX Strength Training is amazing! When I started diverse training options and a family atmosphere were some of the key selling points, those same points have kept me coming back for more than 4 years. Back then, I couldn't go up a flight of stairs without getting winded and had to do most exercises without weights. Now I compete and win StrongMan competitions. I owe my success to the knowledge the amazing trainers provide and the support from the other athletes. I strongly encourage anyone to try RX Strength Training out, you will find classes that meet your needs and interest!

Jeff and his team are rock star trainers. I was not a hardcore weights guy or strength-focused athlete before RxFit. But I wanted to give it a try. Jeff is the friendliest guy and made me feel comfortable when I decided to walk in one evening. I've been a member of the gym ever since. Super knowledgeable, focused on safe training, growth, and the commitment of their athletes, the RxFit team is unbeatable. Highly recommend.

I always worked out at traditional "weights and cardio" type gyms. I come to the RX Strength gym to much less equipment so I didn't know what to expect. The value is in the staff and what they can teach you. I have learned about bare-bones movements that are better than most machines. I have healed my body through mobility. Thanks to the coaches - Hannah, Jeff and Anthony for your investment in me - they go way beyond your typical "personal trainer".

If you like to lift this is the gym for you.
I did personal training for years and the coaches at the gym provide programming that works just as well at a fraction of the cost. My form improved dramatically when I started lifting with others.
It is truly a special group of people. In a few short weeks I felt like I was part of a team. I never thought I'd be training competitively at 48 but the spirit is infectious. Give the gym a try. You won't be sorry.

A welcoming place where you feel like family. Strength and conditioning in a comfortable environment where the coaches go out of their way to invest their time into making sure you are doing things correctly and getting the most out of your experience, no matter your fitness level. I've learned so much, gained confidence in myself, and met some amazing people.

The boot camps at RXstrenghtraining are always challenging and are a great way to work on your strengths and weaknesses. Each class has strength and conditioning components and every workout is different so your body never gets accustomed to the same routine. If you come and do the work, you will be in better shape. I have seen so many fitness crazes come and go, this is not a fad. The coaches here are committed to helping you get stronger and healthier no matter what fitness level you are starting from. I have seen some amazing transformations in these classes!

Rx Strength Training is not your typical gym where you go and mindlessly get on a cardio machine for 30 minutes. It is a place where the owner and coaches genuinely want you to reach your fitness goals while having fun at the same time. They have classes in all different styles using non-traditional equipment (think sledge hammers, sandbags, and tires) as well as barbells and kettlebells.

Jeff Butterworth and his whole crew at Rx Strength Training are pretty extraordinary. A positive, welcoming environment helped my son transform himself from an athletic kid to a power-house athlete who just earned MVP status for points earned on his track team with a constant and steady rise of PRs! Jeff has also welcomed the whole family and over the last year, helped everyone in the family (from 10yrs up to 47) prepare for our first Spartan race. Jeff's knowledge is impressively extensive, but it is his personal investment in the growth of the athlete, whatever his/her ability or goals, that is so transformative. Working with Jeff has been, quite literally, life-giving and...fun! Thanks, Rx!

I met the owner Jeff almost 3 years ago at a GORUCK 12 hour challenge. It was an intense event, but it was a small group of us and he stood out as someone who was a real champion for the whole group to succeed. We stayed in touch via FB and when I moved to the Boston area last summer I was looking for a new gym. I came in tried a couple classes out at Jeff's gym and was hooked right away. The coaches are all super supportive and all have different styles, so even if you go to the same class taught by two different people you are getting a totally different experience. I love the kettlebell sport class! I had never done KB like that before, and I was a little nervous at first, but gave it a try and actually surprised myself with how well I did at it. It is great to be surrounded by a great group of people and having fun while kicking your own butt in the gym. Great gym, great coaches, great atmosphere. Definitely recommended it!

Rx Strength Training has upped my fitness considerably! Every coach is dedicated to their athletes - helping you reach PRs but making sure proper form is used and no injuries are sustained. Not only is each class unique and inventive, the atmosphere is unlike any I've ever experienced. Every athlete cheers everyone else on, and the amount of PRs that happen because of that.... well it's inspiring. If you like seeing results, try out Rx Strength Training - you won't be disappointed!

Rx is an amazing gym run by really knowledgeable and friendly trainers. Classes are small enough to get good instruction and advice from coaches and the community is welcoming and friendly.
The gym is well worth their monthly membership and is almost half the cost of similar plans at local CrossFit gyms.
I love getting to focus both on strength of standard lifts (bench, squat, deadlift), Olympic lifts, and more obscure stuff (kettlebell sport, sandbag training). Lifts are specifically programmed over multiple months to work towards increasing PRs. Metabolic conditioning classes are well done too and killer.
Plus Jeff is just awesome.

Top notch training in Olympic and Powerlifts from a well versed and diverse coaching team. Additionally, odd-implements like mace and KB training (that goes beyond simple swings) makes Rx stand out against other gyms in the Greater Boston area. The owner is amazing and does a lot of work to raise money and awareness for cancer and other causes.
Whether you're training for general health, endurance events, competition or whatever...you don't need to look any further than Rx. You won't be disappointed.

RX Strength Training is an incredible place. Owner Jeff has created a really great culture here. All levels of experience are welcome and everyone will feel like they belong here.
I've been in the fitness industry as a coach for almost 2 decades and I can tell you this place is the, if not one of the best gyms in the greater Boston area. Great coaches and this place makes you feel motivated to do work. If I could give more than 5 stars I would.

Hallelujah!!!! RX Strength Training was my miracle workout for preparation not only for national pageants, but for a lifestyle in good health and overall fitness. Jeff is EXTREMELY knowledgeable when it comes to training, but his nutrition guidance really opened my eyes to things about food I never knew. I would highly recommend RX to anyone interested in a healthier lifestyle, achieving a fitness goal, or preparing for competition. I know I would not have gotten as far as I did without their help!
