I’ve been to a few different cycle/strength studios around Boston but the Handlebar is truly a community rather than a company. While other studios seem to attract a certain type of person and want to extract as much money from you with expensive class/equipment fees, HB seems to be more focused on creating a diverse and inclusive community. They don’t charge you for cycling shoes (thank goodness) and their classes are filled with amazing instructors and clients. I feel so welcome here and always want to sign up for more!

Emma's classes always leave me feeling amazing! Her song choices are excellent, she's so encouraging, and she strikes a perfect balance between pushing us and trusting us to take what we need.

I’ve never cycled before, so I was a bit nervous going into the class. However, the staff was so welcoming that I felt right at home. From helping me with my shoes, to getting my account set up, to the actual class itself - everyone was so kind and knowledgeable. Tyler, my class instructor, brought an infectious energy that gave me the confidence I needed to power through the class! Tyler had a great music selection, gave clear instructions for the choreography, and I can’t forget to mention the motivational call-outs throughout class. The space was clean and well-organized, and the staff were amazing. I had such a fun experience; I’ll definitely be back for another ride with Tyler! Thank you to everyone at HB Harvard Square!

Truly an amazing experience. This was my first class at the Handle Bar and I was blown away by the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. Tyler is a true professional! He made everyone feel welcome and was so encouraging especially during the more difficult choreography. I was a little nervous about being a newcomer but I honestly felt so at home. Tyler is a wonderful instructor with seamless transitions and impressive, well-thought out choreography. He explained everything so well throughout the class that I never felt left behind or lagging. The breaks were the perfect length and usually I give up during arms but I picked up those 4 lb weights and did not put them down until we were done. A perfect end to my busy week and I WILL be returning to the Handle Bar and looking for anything with Tyler. A 10/10 experience I’m definitely bringing a friend next time. Many thanks to your whole team!!

These are the only workout classes I’ve ever looked forward to!!! Cassidy’s Monday class is the highlight of my week and feels more like a dance party than a workout. The handle bar classes are perfect because you can take it easy or challenge yourself based on how you are feeling. Love love love

One of the receptionist here is super rude, some others are better. If you arrive 3 minutes late she won’t let you in and stonewalls you citing their policy, which allows for 5 minutes late entry.

Worst part is she offers no explanation and then immediately got off her shift and left. If it’s not their job to take care of customer experience, I don’t know why they have so many people on staff.

Terrible experience and doesn’t allow for any community building. Will not be coming here with my friends again. But clearly they don’t care about customers so this wouldn’t matter to them.

Jesse is a phenomenal instructor. While her classes are inevitably challenging, she deserves an abundance of credit for her enthusiasm, crafty choreography and curating, and genuine desire to establish a welcoming and inclusive space regardless of skill. She does an excellent job breaking things down and encouraging individuals to give themselves grace and compassion as to mitigate feeling pressure from the room. It is admittedly intense, but joyful - and moreover, well worth the money.

Tyler’s class was a blast! This was my first time doing spin, and he was very helpful getting my bike all set up. The energy was really great and even though I couldn’t do all the choreography or standing things, I felt like he was considerate that we were all at different stages. I’ll definitely be back for another class with Tyler soon!

I’ve only ever had exceptional experiences at handle bar. I’ve referred several friends now! The instructors are incredible and so motivating, I’ve gone mornings/midday/nights and I always find it’s a pick me up no matter what the time is. Raisa and Matt are the main instructors I’ve gone to and they always bring such positive encouraging energy, and their playlists are 10/10. All the classes are very approachable, will always recommend this spot to people (even those with no experience doing spin!).

Editing to add: I've continued to go to Handle Bar and can still say it always brightens up my days. Lately I've been going to Ivo and Emma a lot, and their choreo is so engaging and the community feeling they create in their classes is really special. Definitely check their classes out!

I have enjoyed the few classes I've gone to at the Handle Bar so far. I enjoy the energy of every single instructor I've experienced. I noticed there is not much time spent biking sitting on the seat, compared to other studios where there's been a song or two. I still enjoyed it, just a note that sometimes I like a fast seated song.

First client challenge! I completed my 3 classes within 2 weeks and received my 3 bonus credit. I joined Laura, Kassidy and Paris’ classes and they were a whole vibe!!! For first timers, definitely get built in bike pads because those seats hurt, especially if you have a boney butt. Hahaha. Everybody was so welcoming and the whole room was so energetic. Love it! Highly recommend! Thank you for enhancing my mindset and opening my eyes!

Honestly my favorite studio. Love all the handle bar locations but the vibe at this one and the folks who attend the classes is great. Very inclusive, supportive, and welcoming. If you’re new to spin, would highly recommend starting out here. Raisa is our fave, she has excellent music taste, and just overall is a lovely person.

As a (former) lazy girl, I can’t praise The Handle Bar enough for energizing me to get moving and look forward to my next class. The instructors are all amazing! I have some old favorites whose classes I always try to attend, but each time I try a new instructor, I am never disappointed. Their energy and enthusiasm is awesome, and you can tell they truly love teaching their classes. Each one makes you feel great before, during and after class, and they always remember your name, even after one session!
The front desk staff are wonderful, so helpful and friendly, and the studios are super clean and well stocked with everything you could possibly need before, during or after class. It’s so easy to book classes online or on the app, and they have so many locations and class times to fit pretty much anyone’s schedule.
I want to add that I am considerably older than most of the others who take classes here, but that has never been a problem for me! The HB is inclusive and welcoming to all, so I highly recommend you check them out–you won’t be sorry and will leave the studio feeling fabulous!

I have been a regular at the Handle Bar for 9 months now and absolutely love it! The staff and instructors are so friendly and encouraging which made the environment welcoming and low-stress when I was a beginner. I have tried many other spin gyms (national and local chains), and the HB is by far my favorite. I also love how they do special events with local small businesses and fundraisers to give back to the community. Being a part of the HB community has been so positive for both my physical and mental health!!

Edit: Yes, you are welcome to use this on the website!

I've been going to the Handle Bar for months, and truly have never felt more supported or motivated! The instructors are always energetic and helpful, and the rides are the perfect balance of challenging pushes and fun choreo. When I came back from a spin hiatus, I was having some issues with my posture on the bike and muscle fatigue, and the instructors I talked to were so helpful and stayed after class to help give me some tips to improve. Everyone I've met at handle bar, from the front desk staff to the instructors to the other riders, have been truly wonderful.

I absolutely love Handle Bar, especially the Harvard square location! I’ve been coming here since the start of 2023. The instructors are so supportive and I truly do have fun in every class.

Parking tip: the meters directly by the studio are 30 min max, 8am-8pm, so I typically go to the morning classes before 8 and have no trouble since they aren’t enforced yet. There are a few metered spots on Mt Auburn St that are for an hour though!

I just returned from my first class at HB, my first ever spinning class. I found the atmosphere and the vibe of the establishment welcoming. Ivo led the class I took. Ivo helped me to saddle up at the beginning, and the couple of times my feet got off the harnesses!

I will definitely return. They told me the Back Bay location offers spinning classes that spend half of the time on saddle and the other half off, with weights.

Merci!

I went to HSquare this morning (8:45,class starts at 9). I was really looking forward to do the class. I booked a bike and by the time I filled out the paperwork ,my spot was gone along with few other free spots left: the lack of coordination is very obvious.(the lady was sorry ☹️🙄).Sooo disappointing..
🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑
2 days later,I received an email from the manager, apologizing for the mishap, promising more coordination and offering a complimentary guest pass. (I had left Boston).
I really appreciated her initiative 👍🏻👍🏻and would like to congratulate her on that.
PS: I jus realized that I can edit my review..
So,to be fair,I had to share the happy ending…

I started going to the handlebar about 2 months ago having never done a spin class (also pregnant) and have loved it. I feel really comfortable going at my own pass and doing only the parts I’m able to and know that no one is judging me. Jill K has been my absolute favorite instructor, her music is always so good, she’s know her songs really well so she syncs them with the riding in a really fun way and she just has a nice vibe that’s calm but also energizing.

Came here for a second class recently. It was the 45 min session on Sunday at 5pm with Jill K. The class was really not beginner-friendly, and I felt like I was pretty much on my own. Tried to watch what the instructor or other people were doing, but the room was pitch black. Tried to hear what she was saying, but the speakers were blasting and completely dominated her voice. I'm trying to work out, not go to the cIt's all right if it's your first class and you're only paying $10, but I wouldn't come back at full price.

So I think it's relevant to note that I live across the street, so I'm willing to give this place more tries than I usually would.

Today I came back for a Thursday 7am session with Ashley, and it was lightyears better than my experience last time with Jill. Ashley was so energetic, passionate and motivating. She infused the room with an energy and attitude that was really amazing. She clearly explained and demonstrated all the moves, and her choreography made sense. I actually felt like I was riding to the beat instead of being forced to bike in a disco. I would recommend doing a class with her if you come here.

That being said, there were other factors in play, like me having gained more experience here and having a better sense of how things work, as well as a different bike seat. Last time I may have been closest to the speaker.

It is a very dated studio and cheaply done. Compared to flywheel or soul cycle I think this is a bit more budget. Bikes are super old and in need of replacing, shoes look like they’ve had a few innings and the general upkeep of the studio is poor with marks everywhere and less facilities than others. When you walk in the lady is reading a book and whilst lovely, seemed more keen on finishing her book than welcoming patrons. Class was ok but nothing special. It does the job but I dont know if I would shell out more money for another class.

A great workout with super friendly, upbeat instructors. Always good for a sweat and hard ride, great facilities and friendly desk staff. I don't know how it would be if I didn't have ClassPass though -- it seems quite expensive for a drop-in and I'm not sure it would be worth the value, but with the discount it can't be beat!
