We love coming here! My son is 5 years old and can be socially timid. Master Ron welcomed us, and now my son loves coming. Ron has such a natural, special way with how he teaches children. I highly recommended you check this place out.

I can personally attest to how well this self defense institution works. I signed my son up for this a couple years back, and now he consistently beats the hell out of me. It's ok though because I return the favor with a bottle of jack daniels and my belt LOL

I have been a student at TMI since 2015. I became interested in joining because my then teenage daughter was already a student and she was learning incredible martial arts skills and techniques. It looked like something I could benefit from and I was eager to learn. Since that day, I have learned things I never thought I'd have the ability to do. We learn and hone basic skills such as kicking, punching and joint-lock techniques. My self-defense abilities have given me confidence and since I began I have advanced 5 belts and my goal to attain a black belt is well within my sights. Huge shout out to Ron, our instructor! He is not only an amazing martial artist but he is a wonderful teacher who works with all ages, skill levels and developmental abilities. I have personally witnessed him teaching the children's class as well as the young adults class and I have seen so many young students improve and thrive in the environment Ron provides. Ron is clearly dedicated to sharing his knowledge and helping whoever attends his class achieve their own personal goals, whether it's just having fun, improving fitness or learning higher martial arts skills. I would highly recommend The Martial Instinct and Ron Ortla to anyone who is interested in the art of Hapkido or to a parent who is looking for an activity for their child. My only regret is not joining sooner.

The Martial Instinct is the best school in the area and the one and if the only Hapkido school in the state. The Master instructor Ron Ortla is one of the most knowledgeable teachers holding ranks in multiple disciplines. If you want to learn self-defense, you need to enroll there

My son has attended the Tiny Tigers program at TMI for about a year, and its been a wonderful experience. The gym is clean with well kept equipment, and Ron's instruction is fantastic. He engages the children, and he has a great way of keeping them focused and disciplined. The class is fun while also maintaining the integrity of the program. Students earn their belts, they aren't handed out for participation. Skills are truly learned and fine-tuned. My husband has also attended the adult BJJ class on Friday night - another great class. We highly recommend TMI!

By far the best martial arts experience I have had. The instructor Ron is very accommodating and helpful. He takes the time to make sure you understand all of the techniques and gives you good ways to remember them. Would reccomend this school for anyone who wants to learn Hapkido.

I have been involved in the martial arts for over 30 years in one style or another, taught and owned a school in Watertown MA for years. When I moved to the Franklin area I started to look for a school to train at. I looked for a considerable time for a good school, and after watching a class and taking an introductory lesson at TMI I knew my search was over.

TMI Self-Defense embodies all the elements a good martial arts school should; knowledgeable and professional instructors, clean friendly environment, effective & applicable techniques. Training in a martial (fighting) art always has a certain level of injury risk associated with it, so I was impressed with how the instructors taught techniques while maintaining and instilling a level of safety within the class.

Hapkido is a good style for any age, not just for self defense aspects but also for health, flexibility, and mental stimulation...excellent way to unwind. Also a VERY good style for children and women to learn as it does not rely on strength to the degree a lot of other styles do.

I would, and have, recommended TMI Self-Defense anyone looking for a good, traditional martial arts school in the area. Keep up the good work!!!

Clean & Friendly. I have tried other martial arts studios for my kids and TMI is by far the best I've come across. The kids are not handed out new belts every other week to keep them happy, they actually have to earn them! Isn't that what it's suppose to be?? The instructors are well qualified and are wonderful with the kids. Not only do they instruct proper technique, but they also mix respect for the art with FUN! I also love how practical Hapkido is, the kids (and adults) are learning ways to protect themselves! A great facility for anyone interested in learning a martial art!
