I had enjoyed the club previously. Had even signed up for personal training sessions. When my personal training contract ended in June, I thought that was that as I wasn't billed for anything in July. August 5th rolls around, and I wake up to an invoice and a text saying I owe them money for personal training and saying I can either pay out the rest of the contract or $200. If this was the case, why wasn't this communicated in July?

I feel very hurt, and betrayed by people I enjoyed being around, but now I'm considering cancelling my membership all together and finding a new gym

Update 10/29/25
I recieved a collections email for August when I had already discussed with them that I would not be paying and wanted the contract cancelled because the contract on my end was cancelled.

Now I have to dispute this charge to avoid credit score issues. This is unacceptable for a buisness.

I was very happy when I started working out at this club with senior training classes. However, they replaced the trainer who understood how to manage frail seniors with a body builder. It was a complete fail!

After this gym came under new ownership, they jacked up prices, started locking people into 2 year contracts, and fired my favorite trainer (Nikki) it's severely overpriced, shady, and the new trainers are weird. Stay away

Extremely disappointed with this gym. When I got my membership the owner was VERY pushy about upgrading. I understand that its a business and its her job, but it was getting past the point of acceptable. I still continued with the basic membership because I had been a member before at a different location. The equipment was not kept up on, it was falling apart and the matt area was where they worked out with trainers so I was never able to use that area and was limited to just the equipment machines. I am in the process of cancelling my membership and just found out that it was a 12-month contract which I was NEVER told about (my bad because it was in the fine writing) but its not something that they openly disclose to you. You have to pay $250 to cancel. This is not what my experience had been in the past and not sure if its just this gym or if its all places now but I highly suggest NOT getting a membership here.

All I can say is "tacky". After scheduling a tour with a sales rep Kensi, I was told by the trainer that she called out sick and canceled all of her tours for the day (which is a complete fib) because she had texted me earlier that day to confirm, and I replied. For someone so persistent in reaching out to get us in, she sure demonstrated that they lack organization and professionalism. I will say there weren't many people there, which is a plus, but the equipment is severely outdated.

Rates are ridiculously high and are paid biweekly which seems unusual for a commercial chain. It comes out to nearly $100 per month for a gym with outdated machinery that works but has lots of pieces broken off. Not worth at all in my opinion, especially for the insane rates they want you to pay. Nothing there justifies paying that much—you are also locked into a one year contract with them. Better off finding any other place in the general lansing area.

I won a drawing for a “gift card” that ended up being “well it’s toward the membership” after I agree to a 2 year contract. Oh, and pay $100 up front. Super duper sketchy. On top of that, after repeatedly expressing not being interested in joining this gym, I’m still being bombarded with texts. I had to block the number because after repeatedly asking to be taken off their list, I was still receiving messages.
Gym is excessively pricey for essentially the same services (arguably less services) than planet fitness. I wish I could give less than a star.

My original review from 5 years ago was a 5-star review and I'm sad to say that now in 2024, due to new management, it's a 1-star (0 if that was an option).

April 2024:
I had been a member since 2012, until just shy of 2 years ago due to moving out of state.

Today, I had a phone call with the new ownership's regional rep, because I have been getting charged a membership since December '23. In June of '22, my fiancé and I had moved down to Louisiana, and I was told that my account would transfer. Apparently, my account was just frozen and not transferred. I have been charged the new amount the new owners raised the rates to every month since December, and they are saying that because my account was mismanaged, and that it wasn't their fault, I won't get a refund for that money. Yes, I should've paid more attention to my account I suppose, but that's beside the point. When you inherit a business, you inherit all of the accounts, as well as any problems with those accounts. I was paying my gym down south. When the regional rep told me she couldn't issue a refund because they didn't cause the problem, I responded questioning why they are willing to cash in on that exact problem then. She dismissed it and said she would cancel my account and hung up.

Mario and Victoria would've handled this differently, because they actually cared about their members. It's a shame it's managed by this new team.

Every time I would go workout with my friend, Nikki always said something to us and made me feel uncomfortable. I was actually going to get a membership there but I decided not to.

My Fiancé and I were members of this gym with the previous owner’s and absolutely loved it! We moved down to Louisiana for work and had to transfer our memberships, like we were told too. Unfortunately, something went wrong with my Fiancé's account and he ended up getting charged in Louisiana and also in Michigan. When we noticed the issue the new owners refused to make it right and give us a refund. They claimed that it wasn’t their fault that the old memberships were mismanaged even though they willingly inherited these memberships. So instead of making it right and refunding our account, they pocketed all the money and claimed that it wasn’t their fault. When we were members of Anytime Fitness we trusted what the owners told us about our accounts transferring with us so we had no reason to question if we would still get charged in Michigan. When bringing this up they said that we were actually supposed to give a written notice about cancelling our memberships, even though we just wanted to transfer, which was the first time we heard of this. So instead of being understanding they just kept reiterating that they were not going to refund our accounts.

The old owners of this gym would have taken care of it right away because they truly cared about their members. It’s really unfortunate to see such an amazing gym with a great community get passed over to a bunch of sharks.

I had an AWESOME time working out with friends and adding 3 new members to the Anytime Fitness family (ALMOST 4 today :)) However I’m withdrawing my membership because of the weird worker (Nikki ) inside the gym. If you work out with a friend don’t bring them to this gym. You will be harassed!!!! ( by one person Nikki) I was accused of Training my own Life Partner (NOT THAT ITS ANYBODY BUSINESS) If you saw how I looked, then you would also be confused to why someone would even think I’m training anyone. Staff was also always nice and friendly but the trainer Nikki is very unprofessional. Besides being mistreated, great gym for working out SOLO.

DO NOT SIGN UP HERE! This location was bought out by an out-of-state group and has jacked up their prices SEVERELY. $40 every two weeks for just a basic 12 month membership is extremely laughable, especially for the smaller size of this location. Drive about 5 miles over to the East Lansing location of anytime fitness and get the same exact membership for $38 a month for 12 months. Then after 30 days you can use whatever location you would like, including this one. Also hated the fact that I had to come in just to get that price information, the salesperson would not give me pricing over the phone.

Anytime Fitness is awesome. Very personal and supportive of people inside and outside of the gym. If you don't like that then you'll be fine, too. Just be honest with what you want and expect and AF will help. I've been doing the small group training classes and they have been great for me with recovery.

I really like going to Anytime. It's small and usually not too busy during off hours. There is also a sufficient variety of machines and equipment to choose from. Although the condition of the gym is passable, it could be better. Some of the machines are in need of repair and are not organized according to type. Cleanliness and sanitization have sometimes been rather lax. Also, I've been really pressured to buy personal training sessions, which I do not want nor can I afford. Overall, I still want to come regularly as it's the right type of gym for me, but I'd love to see some improvements in the areas I've mentioned.

Nice small gym. Not very busy in the morning. Great for weightlifting but not so much for cardio. Half of the treadmills have issues and seriously need replacing. Stair stepper has been down for months.

This gym is awful. Looks dumpy, equipment is old and run down or broken. Few new extension pieces that are new but very cheap and won't last long. Overall poorly maintained. If you have a choice do not become a member. I'm out as soon as my membership is up.

Customer Service: Excellent customer service that cannot be beat. Mario was excellent and definitely is a great trainer as well. Anytime fitness franchise is improved by having people like him on their team. 5/5

Weights: A decent selection of weights with dumbbells ranging from 10 to 100 lbs. There is a half rack and full rack. The only qualm I had was that people could not drop weights. This makes it a bit hard to perform the bigger lifts like olympic lifts and deadlifts. If anything a deadlifting platform behind the half rack would help. However, no complaints as the machines and weights facilitated the workouts necessary for both strength training and bodybuilding. Also, the selection of cardio machines is excellent.

Bathroom/Showers: Excellent upkeep and you get a bathroom with a private shower so no complaints there. Also there are so many lockers to put personal items in, there was no complaint.

Extras: Private tanning rooms.

Overall: An excellent facility with the necessary items that facilitates good workouts. Definitely an anytime fitness that deserves to have many patrons.

I love this place. I don't get here as much as I should but when I do I get a nice good workout the machines are always clean. If one machine goes down Mario is right on top of getting it back and running. The tanning beds are clean the shower area restrooms are very clean got a lot of grunting or any of that makes you feel uncomfortable. Could use a few more TVs on the exercise machines. But otherwise very safe very clean an awesome staff. I would highly recommend you looking to work out or it's not a crowded place you can go anytime you wish this is the place

The gym has everything you could need as far as equipment, and they’re happy to show you how to use something if you’re unsure. Gym members are very friendly and helpful too. Facility is in good shape, it's an Anytime Fitness. Not very busy most days. The owner did not show one fraction of an ounce of concern that one of his members, that pays a monthly fee to his club, was being charged 3x what they should be paying for months... I may as well have been told "Not my problem, figure it out yourself." I will make sure the other area location gets my monthly fee.

Love the atmosphere. A little pricey for what you get. The male owner is very friendly and helpful but the female owner is very rude. I needed to cancel my membership due to some upcoming surgeries I was going to have and she kept telling me I woulds still need to work out. I told her several times that my doctor said I would not be allowed to work out and she kept saying the doctor was wrong.

Awesome gym! The equipment is nice and well cared for. The virtual studio is extremely convenient and gives you group fitness access on demand. Mario, the owner, is extremely helpful; Haslett AF has amazing customer service. Anytime is more expensive than some other area gyms (typical of the franchise and 24 hr access gyms), but it is a great value.

this is by far the best location of AF that I've been to. Very spacious, clean, and chock full of amenities such as men's/women's showers, tanning, and fitness on demand (meaning you can take a class by yourself or friends whenever you want). The owners, Victoria and Mario, have always been friendly, welcoming, and great trainers! They go out of their way to provide motivation and are constantly keeping machines functional and up-to-date. I've been to locations that don't even provide simple things like wifi or greet you upon entry. Plus, outside of peak hours, this gym isn't overly crowded and there are plenty of machines/weights. No longer being in the area, I really miss this location! don't hesitate to join.

I've been a member of this Anytime Fitness location for two months. The facility and bathrooms are always clean and they provide disposable towels as well as disinfectant to clean equipment. The early mornings or late nights are perfect for a quiet and relaxing workout. The staffed hours are convenient and offered 6 days a week. Trainers are friendly and are always willing to help you when you need it.

Memberships are about $35/$40 per month and offers packages for joint memberships. I purchased my membership on Groupon for 5 months at a great deal.
