I am really disappointed with the recent experience at Aqua-Tots Novi. My child is enrolled for a 1-hour swim session (two back-to-back 30-minute classes). Twice now, the schedule has been changed due to coach illness, and both times my son was made to wait outside the pool for 10 minutes in wet clothes between the two sessions.

I raised this concern the very first time because it is winter, and my child was shivering in cold water-soaked clothes. I clearly mentioned that this is not acceptable, especially for young kids. Unfortunately, the same thing happened again. When I spoke to the front desk, all I was told was that “due to coach illness,” there is nothing they can do and they can only offer a makeup class. I was also told they cannot assure that this won’t happen again.

This is extremely unreasonable and unsafe. Just because a coach is unavailable, I cannot have my child repeatedly stand outside in wet clothes in winter. What if he falls sick? This is supposed to be a kids’ swim school — their comfort and health should be the first priority.

Additionally, every 30 minutes a different coach handles my child because of these schedule changes. Every coach has a different opinion and teaching style, so my child is not being evaluated consistently or fairly.

I hope Aqua-Tots Novi takes this seriously and ensures that schedule disruptions do not compromise the health, comfort, and learning of young children. Parents expect better communication and safer handling of unavoidable situations.

Coach Marz is irreplaceable. She has a such a gift with children of all ages. She continues to excel as a teacher and supporter for my child. I owe a lot of his enjoyment and success to her! The girls in the front also feel like family. We are always being greeted and my son is always being met with some sort of praise for his hard work during class, even on the tough days. We're going on a year almost of attending classes and in that time he has graduated 2 times and continues to grow with confidence and techniques in the water. Highly recommend this team in Novi!

Wonderful instructors, perfect for little ones who are starting out.... Front desk are so welcoming and always give a smile when you walk in for classes. My son was enrolled in swimming lessons here at Aquatots about two years ago. He is on the autism spectrum, and as a parent, I didn’t have high expectations for how much he might improve, knowing that he faces challenges with communication, focus, and behavior. Sometimes, his attention drifts, and it’s hard for him to stay fully engaged with the instructor.
However, I enrolled him because he truly loves the water and enjoys swimming. I wanted him to have the opportunity not only to be in an environment he loves, but also to socialize and experience something positive.
Now, every time I watch him in his swimming lessons, my heart is filled with joy. I see how much he has learned — he can float, move his arms and legs in simple strokes, and navigate the water with growing confidence. He may not be like other typical kids, but he is learning, progressing, and enjoying every moment — and that means the world to me.
I am deeply thankful to the instructors for their patience, understanding, and dedication. They have shown such compassion and effort in teaching my son according to his needs, and that has made such a meaningful difference. Seeing a child with special needs grow and develop new skills is truly a blessing. As a mother, I feel so grateful and proud every time I see his progress.

We absolutely love Aqua-Tots Novi, especially Coach Shelby! She is truly incredible. My husband and I have twin two-year-old boys, and I know it isn’t always easy managing two little ones who are silly and sometimes try to fight with each other in the pool. But Coach Shelby is unbelievably patient, calm, and kind. She not only takes the time to guide them through each step with so much care, but she also takes the time to explain their progress to us as parents.

It gives us so much peace of mind knowing they are learning in such a positive and encouraging environment. The entire staff here is out of this world amazing—welcoming, professional, and supportive every single visit. We wouldn’t recommend any other swim lesson place. My child began her swimming journey at Aqua Tots, where the trainers have been incredibly supportive. Before joining Aqua Tots, she attended YMCA, but we decided to withdraw her within a week because the trainer there was too harsh, causing her to cry. At Aqua Tots, the trainers are wonderfully friendly with kids; they first helped her develop a love for swimming. Using innovative techniques and water toys, they created an engaging and fun learning environment. While she excelled in the first level, she faced challenges in the second level, but the swim instructor provided extra attention and guidance, ultimately helping her succeed. Aqua-Tots is AMAZING. Not only is their facility very clean (I never walk barefoot at the pool) & I do here. I also feel extremely comfortable taking my baby in the pool there, as I know she will always be safe either with me or the instructor. Best swim school around just took my nine month old granddaughter there. She loves it. The staff is great. The instructors are wonderful. I wasn’t happy with the times that they had given us for the level one so I called to cancel my membership and the manager actually made us classes to accommodate us where it wasn’t as crowded for the baby. My son loves the school and his instructor is amazing. What disappointed me is I was working on a skill with my son (climbing out at the wall) and his instructor was giving me guidance on the terms they use with kiddos in another level. Another instructor came up and said that this isn't a skill for his level. First off if a coworker is micro managing and being rude to a coworker infront of a parent how does she speak when there isn't parents around. As leaving the pool there was also an instructor drinking a redbull in the water while with a group of kids which isn't safe when her attention should be completely on the kids. I thought about it when we changed to take a break from classes since apparently even if he is ready his instructor isn't allowed to work on skills to help him improve according to an instructor that had never met my son before. We were just planning on taking a break for the winter until I got a notification I got a charge (day after giving them notice) from aqua tots for the 2 class for next month we are required to pay for (they need 30 day notice) but are billing date was set to be the first of every month so for them to bill us 2 weeks early shows that they are about money not customers at all.

The Novi aquatots center is chaotic. The pool setup is very odd and there is not enough space for any of the lanes on the far end of the pool. Lots of turnover for teachers and they seem to be just going through motions and not actually focused on pushing your kid to the next level. Missing the Dearborn location which we loved for 4 years. Front staff is also generally unfriendly and doesn't even acknowledge you as you enter. Big difference where the staff at Dearborn actually knew and talked to my kids each time.

This franchise deserves an A+ for ensuring that facilities are open on time and for effectively communicating when a class is canceled. However, there are areas where improvements could be made. For instance, it would be beneficial to maintain consistency in instructors for students who progress to higher levels. Some instructors are better at teaching and providing constructive feedback, and keeping the same instructor could enhance the learning experience for students.

One major concern is the swimsuit wringers. During last winter, there were two wringers, but both have since stopped working, and they haven’t been replaced. Considering the high cost of membership (over $200 per month) and the fact that there are easily 100+ kids at this location, it is surprising that such a basic necessity hasn’t been addressed. Swimsuit wringers are standard in most swimming facilities and play an essential role in customer convenience. It’s disappointing to see a lack of action on what should be a simple fix, as basic customer service like this should not be overlooked.

I understand it is being addressed. Another request, I know the bathing suit dryer is not being replaced. Believe me, I know it must break all the time by how some people abuse it. I suggest a bathing suit hand roller that squeezes the water out for bathing suits. I have seen other places use them. Less upkeep and doesn’t break like the other. They truly prioritize safety first. In one of Instructor Jersey's classes, the kids were sitting in a corner playing with water with their legs. She made sure the kid was comfortable and went to put away the iPad. Within those three seconds, the kids jumped into the pool. She immediately saw that and quickly jumped into the pool. Although she was a bit shaken, she managed to reach the kid. With great patience, she talked to the kid and calmed her down. The presence of mind and dedication shown were truly commendable. On July 6, 2024, I had a disappointing experience with Aqua Tots. Without notifying me, they changed my son’s coach during his class. The supervisor, who wears a red shirt, seems to have a bias against people of color. This is the second incident involving this supervisor; the first time, I chose to ignore it. However, I now feel that he is deliberately targeting my son. Unfortunately, there seems to be a lack of accountability, as the manager has not taken any responsibility for these actions.

On July 6, 2024, I had a disappointing experience with Aqua Tots. Without notifying me, they changed my son’s coach during his class. The supervisor, who wears a red shirt, seems to have a bias against people of color. This is the second incident involving this supervisor; the first time, I chose to ignore it. However, I now feel that he is deliberately targeting my son. Unfortunately, there seems to be a lack of accountability, as the manager has not taken any responsibility for these actions.

Old post - Very unorganized, don’t allowed trail class because we been customer already and it want make any sense. My son was 2 years and six months when he start his first day and I paid everything and they didn’t offered me a trail class that day too.. and I have to pay for one month.. so he turned five and asked for trail class and they asked me $30 per half hour.. I don’t recommend Novi Aqua tots..

Miss Cassie is truly the best! My little guy was scared to start classes and she opened him up and now he loves to swim. She is amazing with kids and a great teacher. If you have a chance take her class! We LOVE her!

Theu have a good schedule with multiple classes for each levels and each instructor has a fun way of teaching the kids and also give feedback. My kid enjoyed the classes here.

This program is seriously the best! I feel so comfortable with my kids around water, because they have learned life saving skills. Thank you, Aquatots, for easing my anxiety and teaching my son life saving skills!

We have had both kids go here. One all the way up. Appreciate the flexibility of scheduling & pace of classes. Our oldest graduated & is a great swimmer now. Our youngest is learning skills that will help this coming summer

Our son attended classes here for two years and we have nothing but positive things to say. The only reason we have stoped classes is due to the distance and the construction on 96. We wish they had one closer to us!
