I have been training with Luis for just over a year now. When I started I had really never stepped into a gym and I was worried I would injure myself by doing things incorrectly, so I wanted a trainer to teach me the basics. Luis took the time to make sure I learned proper form and safe handling of the weights. After a few months I could comfortably use most anything in the gym safely on my own.

I have continued training with Luis 2x every week since then because he is a great motivator and teacher and pushes me to achieve more than I would on my own. I think anyone looking to get into lifting or to step up their current routine would be super happy with BTWR!

Luis's nickname at the gym is the GOAT, and for good reason. I had not actively worked out for a VERY long time and was in terrible shape when I started. We started with a diagnostic session where he got a good sense of my current fitness level, but just as importantly, listened to my goals, my fitness history, and my "why" and "why now." Luis has created his brand around the term "Beyond the Weight Room" for a reason - it's not just about what we do in the gym, he takes a holistic approach to fitness. Luis was phenomenal at meeting me where I was and balancing all aspects of my fitness journey - the technical knowledge, the psychology, the emotional journey, and the nutrition. He also developed a customized plan based on my work and travel commitments, so that it fit into my life and allowed for a more sustainable system. It has been obvious that he has a lot of experience working with many different people from all walks of life, and he is especially phenomenal at being able to connect with everyone based on their individuality.

In my first year working with Luis, I lost over 30 pounds, added a significant amount of muscle and completely revamped my habits in and out of the gym, including sleep, stress management and nutrition. It was, of course, a non-linear process, and Luis really took a genuine interest in understanding my "why" beyond each of the interim peaks and valleys. It's resulted in truly dramatic results on my physical and mental well being.

Lastly, Luis focuses on providing the skillset so that you are able to know why which exercises work for which muscle groups, how to set reasonable expectations, and proper form to prevent injury. Especially with social media, there is a lot of noise around fitness out there and Luis has been able to help simplify everything and bring it back to the basics. This has allowed me to be much more comfortable in the gym when I am on my own and will set me up for truly long term sustainability on my journey.

For years I have struggled to gain weight (I know, great problem to have). To add salt to the wound, with the hustle and bustle of life the concept of weight training seemed overwhelming. I wanted a better body, and I wanted to know how to do it myself. But I needed help.

Luis is methodical in his training; he's not going to rush you into exercises your unfamiliar with and risk injury, but builds upon them. And like his logo, this extends to nutrition. He tracks your progress and builds a foundation so you can do this on your own.

I started working out with Luis about 4 months ago. I was neither new to working out nor to working out with a personal trainer, but it had been a while since I had been committed to fitness. At the time, I was exclusively working out at home with the Peloton bike/tread and app. After getting a diagnosis of being overweight and under-muscled by my physician (both being a surprise to me), I decided it was time to make changes. Before signing up with Luis, he met with me to understand my goals, my history with working out, and why I was seeking his help. I immediately felt comfortable with him and felt like he would have high expectations for me, but also goals that were realistic for me now (rather than the goals that were realistic 20 years ago).

Our sessions initially focused on introducing me to the machines and movements that provided me with the foundation to increase my fitness. Now that I have that foundation, Luis has progressively transitioned my sessions to being more intermediate so that I continue to be challenged. I’ve never felt like he pushed me beyond my capabilities, but he does recognize when I’m capable of more than what I think I can do. I also don’t feel like the workouts he has me do are “canned” or the same ones he has all of his clients do—instead, I feel like Luis tailors them while considering my fitness goals and the other fitness activities I do outside of the gym.

Of course, most people work out with a trainer because they want results, not just a babysitter. I don’t know Luis’ other clients, but for me, I’ve gotten the results that I wanted four months ago. I lost all the weight I wanted and have put on muscle that my doctor would probably be happy with. I feel healthier and stronger and more confident with the everyday activity/movements that are required by my job. I still use my Peloton tread and the app when I’m not working out with Luis, but I’m now doing more advanced classes than I had previously. I wholeheartedly recommend working out with Luis.

A year ago I could do four pushups, couldn't lift more than 15 lbs over my heard and would cry in my car before (and after!) working out. A year later I am hitting my absolute BEST. Before I worked with Luis I had lost a lot of weight before but felt weak and unhealthy. Ended up gaining all of that weight back. I saw Luis's Instagram page and decided to reach out and start training with him. After a little over 2 months I'm already down about 20 lbs but stronger than ever. He really picks up on what your strengths and weaknesses are and is very conscious of anything that may impact your performance. That isn't to say the sessions aren't very difficult, they are challenging. Before training with Luis I never knew what to do at the gym, how to use the equipment, and I was not seeing any progress. I also had a work injury that left me with what I thought would be chronic shoulder pain at the age of 22. Luis will meet you at your fitness level and help build your training from that. He doesn’t just focus on your fitness though, he will also tie in your nutrition outside of the gym to make your health journey excel from all aspects. I feel comfortable walking into gyms and knowing how to work out and how to use the equipment properly. I can’t say enough about how amazing it is working with Luis! I attended a class he taught a year ago and he’s been stuck with me ever since! He encouraged me to push past my limits that day by actually doing the exercise with me…I never forgot that day!

I have been training with Luis since November 2021. Over the pandemic, I got out of my workout routine and needed some help getting back on track. Fitness has always been a challenging thing for me. Wanting to feel good in the way I looked and what I was athletically capable of but not wanting to put in the work always held me back. I started to get into it the summer of ‘21 and finally started going to 3n1(where Luis trains out of) November of that year. He was super nice and always asking if I needed help or to ask him any questions if I had any. A couple weeks in I started training with him and never looked back. He genuinely cares about you(the client) and his work as well as truly believes in his message(beyond the weight room) in the sense that the things you do and learn in the gym will drastically improve your quality of life in all areas. He shows you how to do things down to a T to make sure your getting the most out of everything and has never once gone on his phone or focused on anything other than me during a training session. Luis Sanchez . Where do I start. My 16 year old son started training with Luis 6-7 months ago. Luis is very young so I wasn’t sure of what he can do. And he sure proved me wrong. My son who used to not be a Gym rat is now a gym rat. Luis trained him with perfect form perfect technique and the boy is now a gym rat. Loves working out and pushes himself.

I have trained with multiple other trainers. And I must say Luis is by far one of the best. He truly is a PERSONAL TRAINER ! When he trains you he is only and only training you. I have made so many changes in my form and technique because of his coaching. His style is not more reps. His FOCUS IS ON LESS IS MORE. I started trying to exercise a year ago, after realizing I had gained over 25 pounds and was really not confident about my body anymore. After spending hours on YouTube and following influencers I got a gym membership and I tried to imitate what they were doing, but I soon realized I had no idea what I was doing and I was all over the place feeling intimidated and jumping to the treadmill instead. Luis has helped me in so many different ways, from my form to my diet and even to my mental health, but what I appreciate the most is that he has helped me push beyond what I thought were my limits and this is where I really found the love for weight lifting versus cardio. After showing me the proper form to an exercise, how to properly set down a dumbbell when you have pushed to your PR and how to properly “fail” a squat, I was lifting way more beyond what I thought I could when I started a year ago.

His approach to health and building strength is very holistic, and he takes an individualized approach to building workout regimens that work for his clients. Several of my close friends have also become clients of his, and our workouts are all VERY different. He brings out the best in me while I’m working out and has always made our sessions a comfortable environment in which to learn and grow. Sometimes they are hard, but he is encouraging, positive, and often knows my limits better than I do. As his client base has grown I still feel like a top priority, and he finds inventive ways to work around my sometimes hectic schedule as a medical resident.
