Exceptional Yoga Studio with Amazing Instructors!
I first experienced yoga in the 1960s and 1970s in NYC when it was viewed as a unique and transformative experience. In those days, I recall it being more spiritually oriented. For many, including me, practicing yoga back then was to embrace the hippie movement, the pursuit of peace, love, and expanded consciousness. I recall doing yoga in parks, communes, and spiritual retreats.
Fast speed ahead 50 years. From the moment I stepped into Community Yoga Studio (CYS], I knew I had found something special. The space is serene, welcoming, and perfectly designed for deepening both physical practice and mindfulness.
A huge highlight of my experience has been Sam—a phenomenal instructor. Sam’s guidance is both encouraging and insightful, making every class feel accessible yet challenging in all the right ways. Her ability to create a positive, uplifting atmosphere make each session truly exceptional. Whether you’re new to yoga or have been practicing for years, Sam has a way of making everyone feel seen, supported, and inspired.
Beyond the incredible instruction, the studio itself is spotless, well-equipped, and offers a great variety of classes to fit every mood and level. The sense of community here is wonderful, and I always leave feeling refreshed, recharged, and grateful.
If you’re looking for a yoga studio where you’ll feel truly welcomed and supported, CYS—and especially Sam—is the perfect choice. Highly recommend!

This is an amazing yoga studio and just a truly beautiful welcoming place. All of the teachers are so kind. They offer a wide variety of studio classes and each session has an option to join live on Zoom. It is a wonderful way to stay connected with the community and gives everyone the ability to practice from home or while traveling. Practicing on Zoom has been a blessing for me with my work schedule and travel, giving me the ability to practice daily with these special people and feel the connection, positive energy and support of everyone in studio as well as those joining on Zoom.

CYS is the best!! If you have been practicing for 15 years or are contemplating your first yoga class experience the vibe at the Community Yoga Studio is accepting and challenging! And, having left the Birmingham area 4 years ago for a place with virtually no yoga, the Zoom option was a godsend. Frankly, I was reluctant to try it because one of the great benefits of a yoga class is the class environment. My reluctance quickly disappeared, however, as I was personally welcomed and recognized - even during the class!!!
The teachers are spectacular - well trained in how to construct a class, the precepts of yoga, and how to motivate students to be present, breathe, and focus on acceptance and gratitude. As someone who is certified in teaching hatha yoga I HIGHLY RECOMMEND CYS!

Best yoga studio in the Detroit metro area. I go here about five times a week because of the teachers and students, all of whom are friendly and considerate of each other. The yoga is challenging but always fun!

CYS is my second home! Love the teachers, love my fellow students. Each teacher has a distinctive style, but all of them create flows and classes that are safe, creative, challenging, meditative, and fun. There is nothing better than moving and sweating with like-minded people, while having the freedom to modify flows to your own needs and preferences. Jacquie and Missy have created an amazing space and a supportive community!

I would give them ten stars if I could! They foster an environment full of positive vibes. It is the only time during the day that I don’t have my phone on me and can let go and get lost in the moment with the music and the flow. I have attended yoga classes throughout the country and in Europe; what Community Yoga Studio offers is something unlike anything I have experienced anywhere. The teachers are great. And whether I know them or not, everyone I run into there feels like my extended yoga family! I highly recommend this place!

I’ve walked out of 2 or 3 yoga classes in 20+ years and this was one of them. I wasn’t welcomed at the desk or in the studio space, there was video recording in the studio without consent, there was almost zero instruction, and the pop music was painfully loud. I regularly practice hot vinyasa yoga in my home area, and I do like loud music, but this class was over the top. I’m comfortable practicing sequences on my own, but I come to classes to receive more than a few words. Once I realized there would be almost no instruction, I tried to practice on my own in the warm room (the space itself is lovely). But the music literally hurt my ears (and this is from a person who has attended many loud concerts, loud cycling studios, loud Pilates classes, etc. with no issue). I’m not sure what kind of community this is - it certainly isn’t a welcoming one.
