The front desk staff is rather incompetent. The bathrooms were pretty gross, I came in looking for a new gym and wound up leaving after 20 minutes. In the end I just went to join the planet fitness down the street because of how difficult the process to sign up is. I can’t imagine the nightmare it would be to cancel if I didn’t like it.

I’ve been a member at this gym for 4 years, used to be great, and clean. Recently gym just looks like it’s been insanely dirty, the bathrooms are disgusting. There’s also a lot machines that are broken or need maintenance, that they just leave them broken and don’t fix, I don’t understand how other gym goers that pay monthly for a great workout environment are not bringing these issues up, these machines have been broke for a while too, it’s not like they just broke, where is the maintenance?

Why should we have to pay money at a place that obviously does not respect our time or our business. I come here to everyday to just destress and hope that one of these days they will either get on their employees who just stand in the front desk all day and clean nothing or rerack nothing to actually do their job rather than just sit there and scan someone’s QR code to get into the gym.

It’s not just me who is sick of this, many others I speak to into the gym feel the same and way and it does make one greatly consider finding a gym that does respect its patrons.

I have been trying to get my Crunch Fitness account cancelled which is an EXCEEDINGLY DIFFICULT thing to do.

I just moved over an hour away, and went into a crunch to cancel my account. Nope. You have to go to the LOCATION WHERE YOU SIGNED UP.

They cannot transfer you. They will not help you.

Don’t think you can just walk into your home store and cancel, either. Crunch would never make things that simple. In my case there were no managers at the location, and therefore, no one who could cancel my membership.

Now I have to plan a whole new day to drive out from my now far away home, just to do this ridiculous fetch-quest where I ask them to cancel my membership in person, and hope there is actually a manager present to help.

If you’re thinking about getting a gym membership at Crunch, and have any big life events planned, twink twice.

They intentionally make it exceedingly difficult and a headache to cancel your membership. They will make you jump through hoops and they will waste your time in the hopes they inconvenience you so much that they can extract an extra monthly charge.

Going forward, I’ll be the very best ambassador I can to drive business away from Crunch fitness.

This place is Dirtiest gym I’ve ever been in. It appears the upkeep of the place continues to decline. The dumbbell area has dirt and grime all over. At the bottom and around all the workout machines there is dirt and they look like they haven’t been cleaned in weeks. The men’s locker room is filthy. The sauna looks like it hasn’t been cleaned in months. The tanning area is constantly dirty. I don’t think they ever get cleaned. The machines are constantly broke and take weeks to fix. It feels and looks like the owner and management could care lees about the condition of this facility, but like clockwork, your membership dues come out every month. You began to ask a question, what am I paying for?

I called to cancel my membership one month after I signed up due to a severe injury I had experienced. I told them I was unable to come in to cancel as they say that they needed me to. I told them I would liked to speak to their manager, so I never received a call from their manager, and once I was able to get in touch with them, he was absolutely unwilling to work with me- months later after I supposedly accrued a balance with them. Maybe if you had gotten back to me in a timely manner, this would’ve never happened. Then they proceeded to email me asking me to pay them after I had told them that I had already canceled my membership and I was unable to come in. Once again, the manager was unable to work with me in any way shape or form to resolve this issue. I would not recommend this establishment to anyone, ever. Complete lack of communication and comprehension on their end obviously. How dare you try to continually charge someone after being told multiple times they are unable to come in due to a SEVERE injury, have no sympathy, and be rude to a point where I feel forced into paying for something I physically COULD NOT USE.

PLEASE STOP commenting "this gym is very clean." I come to the Crunch when they open 5 days a week before work. After my workout, I like to take a shower. I have to bring my own cleaning supplies to clean the toilet I use as well the shower. I've been coming for about 4 months. And the only thing the maintenance man cleans is the main lobby, and foyer. The shower is ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS a soap scum, hair filled,mold of a dirty disgusting mess. I understand the maintenance man is a male. Hang a sign outside the women's locker room: "Male Cleaning Bathrooms" or SOMETHING!!! I will be posting pictures tomorrow from atleast 4 of the 5 showers. The mess without a single doubt will still be there...

I had a membership here years ago and a bonus for signing up was a free session with a personal trainer. When I met the PT she looked me up and down and said "I'm assuming you want to lose weight." This was so unprofessional and made me uncomfortable to go back to Crunch. I've learned to like working out in other ways and actually have lost weight since this event by focusing on moving my body because it feels good and not because I need to force myself to lose weight. I've been considering going to a gym again recently and any time I consider Crunch, the memory of basically being called fat by an employee there reminds me of why I will never go back. It's too bad, especially for a place that claims to have a "no judgments" philosophy.

Crunch screwed me. I signed up last winter and I told them I would only be able to go to the gym for a few months during the winter time. They said no problem! You can cancel whenever you want no strings attached…. Lies I would have to pay the whole year off to cancel my membership. The Gm is a class act, acts superior to others, has no customer service skills or deescalate skills only knows how to make the situation worse. Outstanding gym. And I can tend to be a little critical because I am an older man and I have a lot of experience with different fitness clubs and this one is spearheaded by a great management team from the top with standard set by Jake. I meant a few of the staff members when I was there and the courtesy and the sense of welcome was contagious. It's an atmosphere that you want to return to although I don't live in the area but will return occasionally. I would like to acknowledge a new staff member who I had no idea she had just begun and it was only her second day. Her name is Amber and she was absolutely delightful. I think there is nothing worse than walking into certain clubs of which some of them are within this franchise where a member feels that they have just interrupted the procedural routines of the day simply for showing up. The experience here is exceptional.

This place would be cool but the manager is a liar, talks to you like you’re the problem, has terrible customer service, they allow people to be a disturbance (I.e. people rapping loud walking around throwing gang signs, people FaceTimeing being loud enough to hear anywhere in the gym), and you won’t have any way to contact the owner except through email, meanwhile you’re stuck with the smart mouth manager. I would recommend some of the trainers but I would never recommend this gym. I have only been here a month and regret it already.

One of the most subpar gyms I have ever visited, I believe it may be specifically tailored to this location. While the employees were cordial and friendly, the establishment was in a state of disarray. Numerous machines were broken, and weights were scattered throughout the gym. Dirty towels were left on various machines, and the gym was noticeably crowded and small compared to most other gyms. I usually visit the Farmington Hills location, but I happened to be in the area and decided to get a quick workout in. I do not recommend this location.

At one point I had signed up for training on top of my monthly membership but because of a sudden drop in hours at work and dealing with some injuries, I had to stop doing it and got behind and I asked numerous times for them to work with me and to top it all off they just charged my card without permission and now i have to go an entire week without being able to do anything for myself because they ran my card for basically my entire paycheck. I don't want to come back at this point.

They don't enforce actual rules like getting on messing members and racking weights, or kids playing around yet come bother me when I'm doing cleans on the platform with the bumpers weights because it makes noise when it hits the ground. Extremely confused by the cancelation policy, I've been a member since 2018 and needed to cancel due to financial concerns. The individuals there were not helpful/didn't really understand the policy. A manager has to be present for a cancelation. It says in the contract you can cancel in person as well when you leave a written request to do so.

I was told you have to sign other things when this occurs. I asked how that works when you cancel by certified mail, and received a shrug and that they were not a manager. Helpful enough to find me a contract to see what I needed to do, not so helpful as far as the steps necessary to cancel. I should also mention I'm not currently in contract, and pay an elevated fee monthly to do so.

Usually I have a great time at crunch Westland but today an off duty employee swooped in on my machine, then while I was waiting nearby she called me names and poured her water on me. Eventually she threatened to slap me. The on duty employee just joined in on the rude names and looked the other way about the water. She was on that machine for an hour.

The ladies locker room only been cleaned one time in the 2 years I've been there, I complained to the GM (James) , I haven't seen them clean any machines until 2 weeks ago, I told the GM ( James) because they were cleaning while a person was on the machine next to them and they are spraying chemicals, near a member, I mentioned it to the GM (James) and he told me if I didn't like it, go to another gym, I continued my membership there. I was on a machine working out on 4/9 2024, and the GM ( James) called the police, and had me escorted out, because I am african american, a woman , and my membership is through silver and fit, if I were a Caucasian woman, a black male or Caucasian man, he would not have spoken to me in a disrespectful manner, for complaining about the FIFTH! that the gym in Westland Michigan has through out their gym, the one time the ladies locker room was cleaned. I think the lady quit, because of the work she had to do, to clean 2 years of FILTH that I've seen everyday that I have been going there

Went with someone to tour the gym. The tour was mostly for me but they were also considering switching over If i got a membership. The whole tour I was ignored because the male employee was walking aside my male friend and asking him questions, showing interest in him while I had to walk behind them the entire time. He didn’t even make eye contact with me. Uncomfortable experience and being excluded showed me the type of environment Crunch is. I don’t recommend this place for women.

I signed up for the $1 down and $1 for the first month and NO COMMITMENT cancel anytime….:Called James because I was charged for the first month, he tells me I can get the second month free… went in and it’s not at all what was sold to me. I wanted to cancel so I called and spoke with James and he says I have to be a member for 45 days and pay their $60 fee - when I called in the night prior to signing up for this gym membership I asked all about these questions and even said to the young man. If I want to cancel the very next day I can. He said yes, yet now they charged me for the first month, when it should have been a $1 and now I HAVE to stay a member for 45 days and pay $60 for what because I was signed up for less than 2 weeks. The whole thing felt wrong, was told I couldn’t access the gym until I did the kickoff and that was just a ploy per one of the employees telling me so, it’s their way of selling personal fitness.

Now I know why people sign up with PF. It’s no hidden agenda… what a shame they are doing business this way.

3 of the 7 or 8 sterilizing wiped are out. Bring it up to the staff they’re too busy on their cell phone to be bothered. Men’s bathroom is constantly out of toilet paper. So bring you own supplies and the gym would rock! This has been a constant problem since joining. Recommend the haggerty location.

!DO NOT JOIN THIS GYM!

You will never see anyone clean this gym. All employees are always on their phone. Trash is emptied every other day. There are no papertowel in this facility. Water fountain only gives out hot water. I've already complained twice to employees about the water fountain and nothing. It's been over a month now. (While I'm writing this, I asked another employee if they were ever going to fix the water fountain, and he said it's not them it's the water line.)

Potential members should be aware that they could potentially be billed for 2 annual memberships within a one year contract. After paying my final agreed upon monthly charge on my 1 year contract, I went in to inform them that I was canceling/not renewing. I was told that I would still have to pay an annual fee (which is a second as I’d already paid one closer to the beginning of my contract.) I was surprised at this as the renewal date is 9/12 and the annual fee is 9/12 so I thought that was the annual fee for the renewed term if I renewed. I guess it is technically contractually viable, although a bit underhanded. I had planned on coming back. I will not ever be returning despite previous plans to do so when my life circumstances made it more viable.I believe that new members should be given the basic respect of transparency. I understand that companies need to make money, but I think it should be spelled out point blank that their one year annual membership obligates 2 annual fees within it. The person who gave me the bad news did it in a respectful way, and all of my interactions with front desk staff have been positive. My time at the gym has always been positive. I simply wish the full scope had been explained to me upon sign up. Not reading carefully enough was my own folly, but I hope that if others sign up under similar terms they now have the information to make a fully informed decision.

all i can say is WOW. my boyfriend and i were going at 5am every morning, all the employees just texting on their phones all the time. never paying any attention to whats going on around them,. the machines are always dusty. the mamagment is piss poor. the bathrooms always had toilet paper and paper towles all over the ground.

when we first started going i was just going as his "guest" and every mornign it was such a huge process just for me to go with him so then instead we just downgraded his membership and got us both memberships so we didnt have to deal with it. that was short lived and a mistake.

its literally impossible just to cancel a membership and even when you finally are able to after flipping out then they charge you $ on top of it after telling us when we signed up its super easy to cancel and no fees.

we could hardly get on any equiptment when we did go in the evenings after work which is why we switched to mornings cause there is no room cause they have so many different classes going on and there is always "machine down" signs on things.

they bolted all the benches to the ground as well so you cant even move them and go in your own area or anything.

but most importantly, and ive already said it and ill say is again., PISS POOR MANAGMENT

Canceled my membership because the classes after 5pm take up half the gym so you can't even get a decent workout in. When I tried to get a weight to use the instructor yelled at me to leave the blocked off area. I asked the manager if he could grab it for me since the lady yelled at me. I kid you not, this man rolled his eyes, walked over and handed me the weight and said, "that wasn't hard." Also, the amount of high school kids in this place is insane. While working out, I have had kids come up to me saying they placed bets to see if they could get my number? The amount of men that have interrupted my workout in general to get my name is insane. I left Planet Fitness just because I started to take my fitness journey seriously. Biggest mistake of my life. I have never experienced anything like this since I stopped going. Pro’s Very friendly environment, staff members are very approachable, guest are very nice as well if you workout regularly your bound to make gym friends here . My personal trainer Kyle is by far one of the best trainers I’ve ever had ! I also loved the group classes with Alica .

Con’s I’ve been getting over charged since I joined this gym. The General Manger Tyrell Wheatley Agreed in writing to reimburse for the inconvenience / OVER Charges from January- APRIL of 2023 and I was never refunded and I was Overcharged again for the month of May . I felt like a bill collector trying to get in touch with the Managers at the Westland Location. Every time I called the manager was either in a meeting or out of office the front desk clerks were always new hires and never knew what the heck they were talking about !

I’ve seen cleaner Gyms as well . Front door glass is always dirty , mirrors around the gym are always dirty , the system upfront always crashes , the paper towel dispenser barely works and the ladies locker room can definitely be cleaner . For the same Price Planet Fitness keeps their gym CLEAN Unfortunately I cancelled my membership for being constantly OVERCHARGED!

The staff I spoke with are nice and polite. The issue I have with the gym is that some machines are out of service and haven't been fixed in over a month. Also 1 TV has been blue-screened forever. Like you guys can't even fix that? I'm going to another gym.

Edit: Replying to their response, when I went in to cancel my membership, the legendary blue-screened TV was just turned off lol. So I mean... technically you're right I guess?

Note: When I called to cancel my membership, the desk told me they require people to physically go in to cancel, in order to sign a release form. When I used to go to the Crunch location in Farmington Hills, I was able to cancel my membership over the phone. Not sure what this is about but fyi.

I am a new member here at Crunch. Joining was the hardest part but I’m so glad I did. My overall experience so far has been pleasant and exciting. So many of the machines are new to me along with the hydro beds and needless to say I’m hooked. The staff is so friendly and knowledgeable… not to mention their personal trainers will get you where you need to be! I highly recommend!!!

Had to update my review to a one star because it started getting packed at night so I decided to come early in the morning only for them to blare music in your ears for private lessons. Private lessons should be held in their own separate room. For this reason I’m thinking about switching gyms after coming for almost 2 years I gave it too many chances

Been coming here for about a year and driving 30 minutes from dearborn because I like this location better and I never had any issues at all up until that night shift lady with the blonde hair started working there. She had a really sarcastic attitude and made me and my friend feel really unwelcome. I get off work late so I came in at about 10:30 (I’ve been coming here for a year I know it closes at 12 on a Wednesday) and she had to constantly remind me about the time and rules even when I was not doing anything wrong and made me feel like I had to rush through my workout. I don’t feel comfortable working out and having to look over my shoulder the whole time waiting for her to point something out.

I’ll make this review simple for any person to comprehend. It seems like everything that’s been happening at this gym for the past two years has been completely ridiculous and unacceptable; meaning that needs of the customers isn’t a priority to the staff.

List:
-No paper towels in the bathrooms
-No hot water in restroom sinks
-Gym is excessively hot (68-70 degrees) I’m very curious on if they want people to pass out.
-Gym equipment stays broken for months without getting fixed
-Monthly charges differ from month to month without reason

I’m truly ashamed to be saying this about a gym that I enjoyed coming to. We all know there’s new management, so hopefully some change will happen. There’s nothing to celebrate, those balloons should’ve been hung up when the equipment got fixed.

4 months ago this used to be a good establishment. Now the only thing good is that they have weights. The sauna is not usable due to constant oil being put into it. No policy is enforced about this. Men’s locker room always dirty especially the showers. It’s very unfortunate but I’m seriously considering changing gyms. Would not recommend this facility. Save yourself the frustration.

This gym has undergone different management since I started. I became a member in 2021 of December and I wish I could remember the guys name but at any rate…when I signed on he told me that no matter what “promotion” the gym was having due to the time I signed on I would never have to pay more that 25.00 for my gym membership….well, he was fired apparently and now I am paying 30 something almost 40 dollars for the membership ok? First issue. Then I sign on for PT which I figured would help me reach my goals a lot faster. The first trainer I was set up with was TERRIBLE with communication. He would switch my days at last minute notice and when we trained he never had any workouts that catered to what I was looking for. Spoke with Kyle who is the PT manager and he switched me with Tyti. Now as far as PT goes, Tyti is phenomenal. Honestly no issues with training. But, she is not the best with consistency. She has told me that since we missed a day we would make it up the following week and when the week comes…she tells me that that was a mistake and we are only training for 2 days. This has been ongoing since I switched trainers. At this point, I am just really fed up with the new team. When you need to speak to the managers for some reason they are either not in or always busy… the customer service could use a TON of work. Not the gym that it was when I signed on. Today will be my last day with Crunch as I have been overcharged and rescheduled a bunch of times with little to no follow through.

I will never go to this place. I visited the Petco that shares a wall with this place and the music was so loud at Crunch Fitness that it was blaring into the Petco. The poor fish tanks line the wall next to this place and a Petco employee told me that the loud music kills their fish!!

They need to turn the music down and/or move their subwoofers. Absolutely ridiculous that Petco has had to ask them multiple times yet they still continue to kill these poor fish with their music. I’m sure the other animals inside don’t appreciate the loud music either, but especially the fish who are so close to the source (and Petco was there first)!

FISH KILLERS!

Never have I been inside, nor do I want to. They share a wall with Petco (which is their only inside wall) and all the fish tanks are lined along that wall. Well whenever the sub woofers are turned up too high, Crunch Fitness is murdering the fish! They can be very sensitive to the sound and vibration.

I have talked with Petco team members and they have repeatedly asked the gym to turn the subwoofers down or move them off that wall and they simply don't care.

Move the sub woofers or turn them down. Petco has been there far longer and does not have the option to move the tanks to another wall due to sensitivity to temperature changes against an outside wall.

I have been having billing issues with this gym for 3 months. I moved out of state for a job offer. I updated my billing info online after changing banks which didn't work. Tried calling them to resolve it for the manager to tell me I need to come in to the gym. I flew out back to Michigan last weekend to see family and updated my payment info and they said everything is Ok now. Guess what I am still having problems. The manager here isn't very good at his job.

Seeing as I was only going to be in town for a few weeks, I tried out Crunch for a short-term membership.

The staff here was incredibly helpful and friendly, from sign-up to cancellation.

Out of all the commercial gyms I've visited, this one was one of the best. Facilities were clean, plenty of squat racks, and lots of room to work on what you needed without feeling any claustrophobia.

I liked this gym until the manager, Lucas would target me and my friends, criticizing us for anything we did wrong. He made it to the point where me or my friends will never go to this gym again, we felt very judged and insecure after some of the things he would say, which is very unprofessional and completely ruined my workouts as well as others because I know I am not the only person he gives a hard time. Any gym is better than crunch. Any worker is better than Lucas. The employees and management have gotten worse over time and it is very clear only a certain criteria of people are meant to be in this gym.

Not one to write bad reviews but when I pay for a membership that I use daily I would hope to have a better standard. Since the previous manager left a few months ago this location is slowly going downhill. I workout in the morning and it has been absolutely filthy especially the showers and locker rooms. There are several pieces of equipment that have been broken for months and the staff is very rude when I ask when it will be fixed. I have been a member for years and always communicate concerns previous managers always have explained or given a timeline while the tall guy told me to just deal with it. I signed up with Crunch out in Westland about 3 weeks ago and honestly, it's been my favorite gym experience so far. I was expecting it to be a lot smaller, but to my surprise it gives that big open gym feel, it's CLEAN, and the staff makes you feel welcomed. The new lady manager isn't hard to look at either... I've held memberships at Lifetime, Powerhouse, LA Fitness and my colleges D1 athletic training facility. However, for the amenities and most importantly the price, you cant beat it. Highly recommend.
