Cars frequently broken into in parking lot. When I told the front desk of my car being broken into they didn’t seem to care, and it seemed normalized. I reached out to management, nothing. Disappointing after being a member here for almost 5 years. Just a simple, “I’m sorry that sucks”, or “we are working on having better outward facing cameras”. According to police there have been several break-ins in just the last month.

Not a fan of this gym. Way, way too many people taking up space and it exercising. Lots of people taking pictures of themselves in the men’s locker room, which is weird.

TJ is doing a great job leading from the front. The locker rooms are noticeably better and you can see him taking a hands on initiative to coach the staff on improving the overall quality of the gym. The personal trainers seem to be doing a great job at working with new clients too which is nice :) if you’re new to gyms this. Is a great one to try

This gym is FAR from clean. A few of the last 5 star reviews are from people that work that or know people that work there. The men’s locker room barely gets cleaned properly. The lockers don’t get cleaned because there has been a bottle cap and rapper in the same spot in a certain locker for 3 MONTHS! Machines are always down and will take weeks to repair. The sauna floor is nasty and dirty. It look like it never gets cleaned. The locker rooms are always smelling. Now I done started receiving harassment emails about collections when my account is in good standing. The management here is poor and really needs a makeover. I would travel to a different Crunch outside of Ypsi/Ann Arbor.

Update - 10/8/2025
These photos were taken this morning at 8am. Why is there a trash can full in the men’s locker room? The whole locker room smells… I wonder why? The sauna is not being cleaned regularly again, along with the floors. They may fake it and tell you that the environment is clean but it isn’t!!!! CLEAN THE DANG LOCKER ROOMS!!!! We are entering the cold/flu season!

I’ve gone here for 3 years and the hoist leg press has been out of order for the last six months. I’ve complained multiple times as it’s the only leg press that’s safe enough for my tight hip joints getting in and out. This is completely unacceptable and goes to show they do not care about their members. Staff is lovely; this is a MANAGEMENT problem.

The wifi hasn’t worked here for over a YEAR and when asked the front desk they literally said “only some users have trouble so they don’t take it seriously” so people with ATT only which SUCKS because Washtenaw road is known to have the worst signal. The bathrooms are always dirty, and there’s a flickering light that hasn’t been fixed in weeks. Save yourself the trouble and just go to the Ann Arbor Saline one. Worth the drive they’re much more conscious of the people. I just tried to come back to the Ypsi one after a year to only see the same stuff go on. $40 a month is insane for the environment

Crunch Ypsilanti is an amazing gym! The equipment is always clean and well-maintained, and there’s a huge variety so I never feel limited in my workouts. The staff are super friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere is welcoming whether you’re new to fitness or more experienced. I also appreciate how spacious the layout is, so even during busier times I can usually find what I need without waiting around. Definitely the best value gym in the area—I’m glad I joined!

I’ve been going here for 3-4 years now and it’s just ridiculous how hard it to cancel your membership.

Don’t even bother signing up they will change your rates, accidentally charge your account monthly instead of yearly AND NOT REFUND YOU I have been double charged their annual 2 times now and the people at the front desk cannot help you.

I came from planet fitness and I would rather tough it out there than pay pretty much $20 a month for the same thing I was paying $10 2 years ago. I have tried to get out of my contract the last 2 years and only a person over email can break it, I have emailed them on 3 different occasions trying to tell them to not renew me and then after they renewed me to give me a refund and I have heard nothing back.

MAKE THE EMAIL PUBLICLY AVAILABLE WHY DOES A MANAGER HAVE TO GIVE IT TO ME, WHY DONT I HAVE A PUBLIC MEMBERSHIP ID OR ANYTHING LINKING MY ACCOUNT SO I CAN OPT OUT ON YOUR AWFUL APP!!!

As for the actual gym, you probably have anywhere from 20-80+ people trying to share machines and their personal trainers will usually be on 1-2 of the high demand ones. A lot of gym babies who have never been to a public gym and have zero etiquette, and no one enforces it, the fact you’ll have 1 person hogging 3 machines and no employee can tell them it’s a high traffic gym and to stick to one. It’s a hassle trying to get in a full workout in and half the time I’ll just leave or try to use the bikes for the rest of my session.

It’s ridiculous they keep the pay of the employees at $12-14 hourly and never get new machines or even extras of the ones they only have 1 of, but keep raising the membership cost. Before you commit to a year ask yourself if you’re ready to pay over $400 to possibly get in a workout.

I love going here. The overall experience has been fantastic! The staff there is great at making you feel welcome and are always down to help you with any questions you might have. My PT, Benny has been nothing short of amazing! He’s been extremely helpful at helping me reach new levels of confidence and success at the gym and is always down to put you to work! I was initially worried about personal training and how hard it would be but Benny really goes out of his way to help you and meet you where you’re at.

If anyone is looking for a great and quick work out his Strong HIIT class is insanely good!

I’ve been going to Crunch in Ypsilanti for several months now, and I’ve honestly had a really good experience overall. The gym is clean, the atmosphere is welcoming, and it doesn’t have that overwhelming or judgmental vibe that some gyms can have. It feels like a space where people of all fitness levels can come in, do their thing, and feel supported.

Like any gym, sometimes a machine might be down, but I’ve noticed that both the general manager and assistant general manager are on top of it. They don’t ignore the issue or let it sit they actually work to get it taken care of pretty quickly. It’s clear they’re paying attention and want to keep things running smoothly for everyone.

One thing that’s really stood out lately is that the general manager is actually present and involved. You see them around the gym, checking in, talking to members, and making sure things are running well. That wasn’t something I noticed with previous management, so it’s been a refreshing change and adds to the overall sense of accountability and care.

Makaila, the assistant GM, is always upbeat and welcoming. She goes out of her way to greet members and make sure people feel comfortable. There was a day when I was standing near a machine not totally sure how it worked, and even though she had a lot on her plate, she came over and walked me through it without hesitation. She didn’t make me feel like I was bothering her or like I should already know just kind, helpful support. That moment really stuck with me.

The whole staff is friendly and approachable. You can tell they enjoy what they do, and that positive energy makes a big difference. If you’re looking for a clean, well-managed gym where the team actually cares, I’d absolutely recommend Crunch Ypsilanti. I’m glad I joined and have had nothing but positive experiences

Do NOT join this gym. I cancelled my membership over a year ago and now they are rudely threatening to take me to collections unless I rejoin the gym. I left due to a harassment issue my first day trying the gym out, so this isn’t a surprise coming from them.

If you care about your credit and don’t want to go to a gym that has employees that harass people, STAY VERY FAR AWAY FROM CRUNCH FITNESS YPSILANTI. They are dishonest, disrespectful, and are a shady business.

The gym is fine, but INCREDIBLY scummy management, going so far to threaten collections on me unless I resigned my contract for the new year. I canceled my membership last year in writing, confirmed by management at the time, all as required by their intentionally difficult procedures. Fast forward to this year, when I receive an email from the general manager saying they have sent my outstanding debt to a collections agency, but they will wipe all debt/cancel the collections inquiry if I come back. Flat out illegal extortionist practice. When I then responded back within an hour to the email with receipts and photos of my cancellation over a year ago, they decided to never to reply. When I called the gym on the phone, it took an hour to get ahold of someone, only to be told to respond to that email address that has completely stopped responding to me.

I’d urge anyone who currently has a membership to hold onto any proof of cancellation when you do so, and any of those looking for a new gym to go far, far elsewhere.

EDIT 7/29/25: After sending all of my proof of my previous cancellation, I had not received any message back until today where ANOTHER collections notice email from the same account was sent to me. Please do not waste your time here dealing with crooks, there are plenty of other gyms cleaner and less of a hassle nearby.

Love this gym! Machines are sometimes broken due to wear and tear or misuse. But they try to get them fixed as quickly as possible. Trainers will ask you if you’ve done your kickoff but that is their job and Crunch gives you a complimentary training session when you sign up to help toward your goals so that’s nice to have guidance for those who want to take advantage of that. The classes are challenging yet fun with a wide variety of options from zero experience to even the most seasoned athletes. I love it here! The staff is welcoming and cool!

Absolutely horrendous experience with cancelling my membership here, I recommend documenting everything at every step along the way and preparing yourself to be gaslit, ignored, talked over, disrespected, and laughed at by employees. Still trying to cancel my membership over a year later and still trying to get refunded for the monthly fees that they've been charging in the meantime.

Edit (7/9/25): After getting help getting my issue elevated by a manager at another Crunch branch, I still have yet to hear back from anyone. This is both utterly disappointing and also what I've come to expect. Again, take extreme care if you make the decision to give this organization access to your finances, especially if there is any chance at all that you'll need to move in the foreseeable future.

This is a safety concern. While at the gym on July 4, 2025, the fitness center turned off the lights over the free weights section 30 minutes prior to the holiday closing time of 2pm. At 1:45pm, the fitness center turned off all lights in the fitness center. Members were still in the gym, working out, including my wife, was running on the treadmill at the time. This is a serious liability that could have resulted in significant bodily injury. Have never experienced this level of blatant disregard for safety at a fitness club.

The test is over and the grade is in. A+. Same location. The address is the beginning point and end point of what was familiar and presently amiss bringing a collective side of relief. Crunch Fitness in Ypsilanti is under new ownership and new management and those of us who were here with the former regime were in a wait and see if the new hierarchy delivers mode with what they were promising. Well they have delivered exceeding the hopes that any member could summon up presenting evidence as in honoring the gifted individuation of each client, even in the simplest of manners such as repairing a piece of equipment within 24 hours rather than a laborious 24 days. All systems go. In particular, the energy in the classes is contagious with 15 to 20 members stretching and dancing to a dynamic beat whereas in the past there were two in attendance with one of those being the instructor. Alicia and Dan are phenomenal. Having been a member here for almost a year and a half I never truly felt valued to the extent that I do now and I believe this is a firm testament of the experience for all others. I have probably seen 40 employees come and go in my first 14 months here. Including management. That is a systemic problem within the former organization and no reflection on those employees who came and left. When you see this kind of a turnover it becomes indicative that they are not being valued by ownership, the employee is simply a workhorse. Hence why would the ownership value paying clients? Past ownership is now defunct. If by chance anyone is reading this review and has been hesitant based on misguided reputation I can assure you the present option here for your fitness goals will surpass any former impression. General manager TJ and assistant general manager Makaila are exemplary achievers in personality and execution of a game plan making us all members of a winner's circle!! Finally we are all respected as individuals rather than being an economic means to an end for corporate profits.

This place is just filthy. I don’t think they’ve vacuumed or washed a single thing for months. The workers couldn’t be any more unwelcoming and rude. I’ve been laughed at and harassed by a trainer for simply not responding to his advance on a dating app. All the little coworkers gather around to gossip and chuckle like a bunch of school children. Professionalism is nowhere to be found in the building. Pubic hairs are in every inch of the bathroom, wet floors, dirty mirrors, and the machines are outdated as crap, and overall this place needs an entire revamp. I will purposely go 30 minutes out of my way to go to a different crunch JUST so I don’t have to workout in such filthy conditions.

Hydration Frustration!

Love the workouts and the Zumba instructors, loathe the water woes. For a gym that prides itself on gains, you'd think they could lift the burden of a filter change. The water bottle refiller has been flashing red longer than a stoplight in rush hour — clearly signaling it's time to filter out the excuses.

I’m trying to stay fit, not sip on sadness. At this point, my water bottle is thirstier than I am. Come on, folks — let’s press pause on the reps and refresh that filter! It’s the only thing around here not making any progress.

Until then, I’ll be working on my biceps and my dehydration tolerance. I'll change to a 5 star review as soon as I get the green light.

I told her I didn’t want the membership anymore because I did not like the way. The young man had spoken to me so I canceled the membership. She advised me to come in. I came in and signed the paper The Same boy who have been rude was the one I had to sign the paperwork with He did not give me a receded portion. My card was still charged. I went back in and signed another paper with another person who gave me a receipt in and now my card has been charged again. This is only my second time at this location. Today as I walked into the women’s locker room, I put my things in a locker and then continue to the back where the toilets are. There is a female AND a male employee working in the toilet area. I did not notice him in the locker area. What if I had been changing unaware there was a man there? I also noticed a Muslim woman working out. She now has nowhere to go if she wanted to change or shower. Also, not a single sign posted outside the locker room to alert women who will be entering. This was mind blowing and you need to do a lot better crunch.

Men's bathroom is disgusting. I think they might literally never clean it. It's like a superfund site. I usually like to wash my hands after working out, but I avoid it here because I feel like I might get sick.

Also, my girlfriend and I tried signing up here using their membership where you can bring a friend. The rules they have for this are inconsiderate, inconvenient, and overboard as they require you to hand over your drivers license while you're there. Practically no other business requires you to hand over your drivers license after you pay for their services. It's not necessary, it's insulting, and it's one more thing to have to keep track of. If you don't, you'll be looking at having to go out of your way to make another trip all the way back, if they're open. You're also put at risk of not having your license on you while you're driving.

I am not someone that takes the time to write reviews often, but the upper management at Crunch really went above and beyond.

I was mischarged for an additional month of PT, after waiting over a week to hear back from the GM only to be told that I would not be refunded even though in the contract I signed I clearly declined to be auto renewed. I guess when reviewing my account they didn't happen to notice this clause? Because after I made the GM aware of this, I was then told they would have the President of operations reach out to me about the situation. I then wait several days only to get nothing, I reach out again and get provided their email, AGAIN I hear nothing for over a week. Finally I hear back, only to be told there is no justification for a refund. The petty emails from your president of Ops is wild, you clearly do not have a full grasp on the events, or are choosing to be oblivious, either way it is completely unprofessional and very poor business. Bottom line, because you have bad contracts that consist of conflicting clauses is not my wrongdoing. I was not planning on writing a review at all, but the amount of time wasted has brought me to a boiling point, I am still waiting to hear back from Robert even now...

Also, clean the dang locker rooms, they smell constantly, and 70% of the lockers I open have gunk/dirt on the bottom.

Building is relatively clean for a gym. The only thing that I will say is really a downside is that all the features are not included and the base package or the package right above that. And the other thing is that there are not as many cleaning stations to be able to wipe down your machines and stuff. So you got to kind of search for them. But overall the people inside are very friendly. The even the gym-goers are friendly and you can tell that they are serious about their workout and sometimes it. It cost to be around people who are serious and of higher caliber and you definitely feel motivated when you walk in the doors. You don't feel like they're going to set you up for failure by handing you a slice of pizza or candy ........ Oh yeah did I mention they have a sauna? So cool!

Been working out at this gym faithfully for the last 2-3 years. Staff is very friendly and facility is always clean. Fellow gym members are great at re-racking weights in the right place, and trust me I’ve seen clubs where people don’t re-rack in the right place and it makes your workout that much worse. Only thing I’d want to see changed is the hours of operations on the weekend, and the crowd at 5pm. I feel like an 8pm closing on Saturday and Sunday is pretty early, maybe 10pm at least. But there’s not much they can do about it on the local level; I’m sure that would have to come from corporate. And I don’t think I’ll ever beat the 5pm crowd, but a man can dream!!!

The only things stopping me from giving a 5 star rating for what it’s worth is that the personal training classes can and will get in the way of your training depending on your routine and the time you attend. They’ll block off the entire jungle gym, turf, and punching bags for client sessions. And if they’re using the yoga room at the same time, don’t even think about TRX because those will be closed off entirely.

Other than that, if you can find time to workout midday or late at night, I’m sure you’ll love it with no complaints. (I’ve never been early in the morning, so I’m not sure what that crowd looks like)

Jackie was ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL assisting me setup my fitness membership! After a rough start getting the trainer to show for the Kickoff, Jackie took it upon herself to get me rescheduled, assured me this was not normal, and called the next day to check-in. WAY ABOVE AND BEYOND what manyyyyy would do. She’s the only reason I came, but the trainers and staff are extremely nice. The other gym-goers are very helpful and willing to “work in” with others and give tips/tricks. This has been a great place to build up my fitness journey.

So far the gym is clean and comfortable. I have experienced a bit of a crowd, but very nice and will let you work in, so not too worried about availability of machines.

I don’t care about public WiFi, so I cannot speak on that! Sauna is up and running everyday so far as I’ve been a member.

Update: I contacted with the gym, the current general manager Amber was very helpful, she helped me to solve the issue, removes the debt and cancelled the membership so that I can have a peace of my mind.
In sorry I can only change the rate to 3 stars since I can’t get refund and was mentally exhausted from this experience.
The horrible situation was caused by previous staff.
Thank you again Amber for your help!

Horrible Experience – Avoid This Gym at All Costs

Writing on behalf on my husband who had membership with them.

I had the worst experience with Crunch Ypsilanti and would strongly advise against getting a membership here.

I physically went to the gym in April 2023 to cancel my membership and was told I needed to send an email to finalize it. I sent emails in April 2023 and again in January 2024, yet they completely failed to process my cancellation.

Fast forward to now, and I’ve been hit with a debt collection notice for services I explicitly canceled over a year ago. To make matters worse, they provided me with an incorrect email address, which caused my communications to bounce back, further delaying the resolution.

They continued charging me for months despite my repeated cancellation attempts. I even had to replace my debit card just to stop their unauthorized charges. Now, they’ve escalated the issue by sending my account to a debt collection company, which is chasing me for money I don’t owe.

To add insult to injury, they deleted my previous review on Google, clearly trying to hide how badly they treat their customers. This shows a complete lack of accountability and an attempt to silence honest feedback.

If you’re considering joining this gym, don’t do it. They clearly don’t respect their customers or properly manage memberships. There are far better gyms out there that won’t leave you stuck in a nightmare like this.

Plus they are personal owned not brand owned, that’s why they don’t care :)

I really enjoyed this gym until today. I was in the women’s locker room about to change when a male staff member walked in without saying anything. He was in there to clean, which is fine, but it would have been much more appropriate to yell that a man is coming in. I was not the only woman in there when this happened. I thought there must be no female staff members working right now, but when I left the locker room there were 2 female staff members at the front desk. There was a sign outside the locker room saying a male was in there cleaning, but what about the women who were already in there? I’m not upset with the man cleaning the bathrooms necessarily, I feel this is a management issue to not have a female staff member clean the women’s locker room. I also go to the Crunch in Taylor and Westland and whenever I see a staff member in the locker room it’s always a woman.

Great trainers and great prices, $25 a month for self train, $35 for self train and key rental to have access to the gym. No reason to go into crunch fitness and get coached by someone who’s not in shape at all. Majority of the staff at crunch Ypsi aren’t in shape and don’t look fit at all. There is only one way to make sense of this. And so it figures and so it goes. You join a gym. You have a regime and you stick to it and every few months you make adjustments but no matter what you do you hit a plateau. Some people quit and give up. Some try to find a different way to overload and to push themselves. How ironic, the gym here due to staff and management hit a plateau a while back and I left and went to work out with Barney. It was so bad that it was a discredit in terms of customer service where a member would hopefully be made to feel welcome in an environment with a company mission to foster progressive growth. Ran into a friend recently who knew me from when I used to go to Crunch and he said, “You've got to see it now.” So I came back. The plateau is behind them. It's unrecognizable in terms of the changes. I've come back for a few days now and everyone at the desk greets you hello and goodbye and you can tell they're sincere. There is an energy amongst them and I've often said what you first experience in a place sets the tone. The place is spotless. They even have a team member who's sole job is cleaning and he's doing great, James ( I think) . The men's room it's not one where you have to brace yourself like you do for a rest stop on route 23. Not one piece of equipment is in need of repair whereas when I was there last time half the gym needed repair and the sauna was down back then and had been for months making us wonder why we were paying maintenance fees yearly. Hats off to the new general manager and the new staff members. It's amazing what the right people can do. I'm back and I'm thankful. Personally I also couldn't handle much more of Barney and the purple down the street. Barney may be open 24 hours but if you're working out at 2:00 or 3:00 or 4:00 in the morning you're not going to get the rest you need for recovery. So there's that. LOL. One final note. If you're interested in a good program for training or need just a little advice look for Michael.

The owners need to do a much better job on maintenance. I've been complaining for months and nothing gets fixed or repaired

The lack of maintenance on machines is going to get somebody hurt, not greasing the slides on cable machines, replacing cables and attachments when they are worn away and unsafe, bolts falling out of machines and dumb bell racks. Planet Fitness down the street does a better job at this.

Mens locker room is always disgusting, including constantly broken toilets, faucets, sauna, and doors on lockers.

I understand it is a basic gym and not Lifetime Fitness.

Papertowel and spray for cleaning gym equipment is always empty or they run out completely and make you reuse a dirty rag that has cleaned countless other machines.

The gym equipment needs to be cleaned regularly too, ceiling HVAC vents are caked with dust, fix the broken tv's, replace the out of date fire extinguishers, and fix the broken front door.

This place is a dump and it needs to be taken care of. The only reason I am still a member is that the dumb bells go up pretty high and they have real benches and squat racks.

There are maybe 3 front desk employees that actually work and refill paper/spray, sweep/vacuum amd don't just congregate at the front desk or walk around trying to flirt with girls.

Two days ago there were six employees hanging out at the front desk for at least 20 minutes and did nothing productive.

Inspect what you workout on before you use it so you don't get hurt!

There are certain things at gyms you cannot be missing: #1 hand soap in the MENS BATHROOM and #2 something to wipe down your machines with. This gym is super close to me, and I've been coming here for almost 2 years now, and it's okay at best, but we came in today and there was no soap at all available in the men's bathroom and no paper towels to wipe down machines. When I asked what happened, they ran out, but they are "switching regular towels every hour" instead, so people are not washing their hands after using the bathroom AND using the same towels over and over to wipe down the equipment. There is no excuse for poor hygiene at gyms and this is insane. Idk what paying for other than heavy weights and eventually ring worm or something? Boooo!

The mixed reviews initially gave me pause, but I decided to check out Crunch Ypsi in person, and I am so glad I did. This review is gonna be long and detailed--hopefully it will be useful to you.

For the record, I am a mid-30s white LGBTQ female, formerly athletic body type, currently recovering from injury and so I've gained weight and lost a lot of muscle and stamina. I also haven't been to a gym since college, so I'd forgotten how virtually all of the machines work.

My primary goal was finding a gym where I could work out, recover, and get stronger, while not feeling so self-conscious or anxious that I stopped going. I'm someone who still has to fight off the feeling that everyone is staring at me, so working out in front of other people was something I was very nervous about trying again.

I signed up for the free three-day pass, worked up my courage, and went on a weekday morning. I was immediately greeted by Keely, who was super friendly and genuinely seemed excited that I was trying out the gym. I asked about the mixed reviews, and Keely explained that management had changed recently, and that in her opinion, things in general were much better now. (I also asked two more staff members on other days and they gave similar answers--so if you are worried about the reviews like I was, just ask! They will give your their honest opinions and are not afraid to talk about it.) Keely also offered me a tour of the gym, which I accepted.

The first thing I noticed was that the people working out looked to be from all walks of life: all ages, races, genders, and levels of fitness. That gave me the vibe that this location is one where it's important to the staff that you feel comfortable and safe no matter who you are or what you look like.

I asked A LOT of questions about the membership options, how some of the machines worked, general policies of the gym, and so on. Keeley answered everything I wanted to know and even pointed out things I had no idea existed at the gym--the most exciting for me being TWO mirrored rooms that are technically for fitness classes, but anyone can use them if there isn't a class in session. I'm a dancer, so this immediately screamed STUDIO SPACE to me. Where else are you gonna find virtually open-access studio time for around $10-15 a month??

I came back twice more, tried out some equipment (all was very clean and well-maintained), and danced in each of the rooms. The one with a smooth floor is HUGE and there were a couple other people also doing their own thing in there. We didn't bother each other. The one with a rubber floor is a spin class room, so there's less space, but I was alone so it didn't matter.

By then, I was so excited about this gym that I knew I was going to sign up, which I did about a week later. The process was very easy, and I was happy to see that memberships can be paused or cancelled much more easily than at some gyms (cough, rhymes with Granite Witness). Mike at the front desk gave me another tour, this time more in-depth about the machines, and let me know that any gym employee would be happy to show me how to use the equipment if I wasn't sure. Being able to comfortably ask for help is important to me since as I said, I've forgotten most of it.

I also signed up for the Kickoff, which I DEFINITELY recommend if you're not totally sure of your goals or the direction you should go. It's a (free!) meeting with a personal trainer where they go over where you are, where you want to be, and how you can get there. Ro did my kickoff and she's AWESOME--so encouraging and sweet. I immediately felt comfortable opening up to her about how bad I've been feeling about my body and how demotivating it is to try to come back from an injury. She showed me how to use specific machines that she thought would benefit me, plus a couple others that I was excited about, like the assisted pull-up machine.

So, if you are looking for a comfortable and welcoming place to work out where you won't feel watched or judged, I would recommend giving Crunch Ypsi a try!

I recently visited Crunch Ypsilanti and wanted to share my experience regarding a few concerns I encountered during my visit. While the overall atmosphere and amenities were satisfactory, I did notice a few areas that need improvement.

The equipment itself is good but it is not properly maintained.

One of the main concerns I had was the cleanliness of the equipment. Both parts that members would be responsible for and parts that staff would be responsible for showed signs of neglect. For example, I noticed that the staff was not consistently cleaning around the base or using silicone spray on guide rods. This resulted in many things feeling "chunky" and rendered some equipment unusable. I believe it's important for the staff to prioritize regular maintenance to ensure the equipment is in proper working condition for the members.

Another improvement that is needed is the availability of paper towel cleaning solution stations, particularly in the vicinity of the squat racks. I found it challenging to keep the area clean during my workout due to the lack of convenient access to cleaning supplies. Having more paper towel cleaning solution stations placed strategically throughout the gym, including near the squat racks, would greatly contribute to maintaining a clean and hygienic workout environment.

One of the main issues I encountered was the presence of weights left on the floor. This made it difficult for me to find appropriate weights for warming up. I had to spend several minutes removing plates from machines to adjust the weight to my desired level. This could be discouraging and inconvenient for newcomers to the gym. It would be helpful if the staff took the initiative to ensure that weights are properly returned to their designated areas, and patrons were encouraged by staff to re rerack, promoting a more beginner-friendly environment.

Another concern I noticed was that the lat pull machine was missing a pin to adjust the thigh pad. This made it challenging to achieve proper posture and comfort during my workout. I recommend that the missing pin be replaced promptly to ensure all machines are fully functional for members.

Regarding the spray tan area, I found that the cleanliness could be improved. While the machine may clean itself, there were still missed spots that required human intervention for proper disinfection. Additionally, during my visit, I noticed that the trash was overflowing, and the availability of hair nets was lacking. Regular maintenance and attention to these details will help create a more hygienic and welcoming environment for members using the spray tan area.

I hope that management takes these concerns into consideration and implements the necessary improvements. With these adjustments, Crunch Ypsilanti has the potential to be an outstanding gym that caters to the needs of all its members. The staff was nice! Maybe they need to hire more people to clean or retrain current staff.

I go here regularly as a guest, and a year ago it was a pretty decent gym and one I would recommend to friends. However things have not been as nice lately. Today there was no one here to open the gym, at 6am, an hour after doors were supposed to be open. According to other regulars in the parking lot, this isn’t the first time this has happened as of late.
Secondly, the crowd that comes into this location has recently become more obnoxious and disrespectful to other people’s space. I shouldn’t be able to hear someone yell at their friends, yelling lyrics or repeatedly yelling during reps, over noise cancelling headphones. Nor should I have someone grow hostile towards me because I won’t give up my spot at a machine for them.
Additionally, it seems as though most of the staff that did care for this location and reprimanded the previously mentioned behavior, have left. For a membership to be $35 a month, this is intolerable. I would reconsider which gym you go to until ongoing issues have been resolved here.

I have been going here for a year and a half. This location has decreased its value greatly since I joined. I’m the beginning I would have given 4 out of 5. But over the last 6-8 months there is always something broken from gym equipment, saunas, urinals and stalls being out for weeks to months. They have chased the good employees away and now have undisciplined and lazy workers who don’t clean, organize, stock, or hold any type of responsibilities. I hope you don’t show up when they open because no one is there to let you in. Today at 550 no one was there and hours to open are 5. This is not the first, second, or third time this has happened. This place has lost business and it’s going to continue with me.

Hey owner - spend the money and fix stuff and stop being so cheap!!! Buy a deck scrubber for the locker rooms for the employees. There is zero chance I’m removing my shoes in the sauna and gonna catch athletes foot for the tenth time here. I wouldn’t feel comfortable going bare footed with flip flips in the sauna. Too filthy.

Re-Reviewing as most nights after 6pm long after the General Manager and Any form of adult leaves the staff on night shift are horrible. There are multiple adult male children who treat the gym like their own personal place. They run around, have water fights, slam weights, some of the staff are even friends with these children so nothing is done about this. This place exemplifies the worst that ypsilanti has to offer. The staff barely clean the locker rooms. I use the same locker and there is often the same gum wrappers still in it and the floors are dirty and look like they're never swept. I will be looking to cancel if management does not address this ongoing issue.

Better than Ann Arbor, I'd give 5* if the employees would actually discourage potentially dangerous behavior. Several times a week, the same group of people will be here, being disruptive. Today (4/19 ~8pm) they were having a water fight and running near the cable machines. I had a staff member (one that constantly looks me up and down with judgement and snickers) come up to me and ask what I’ve been working on lately. I told them I’m bulking and building my glutes and quads, they gave me some helpful advice and workouts and I thought maybe this is a new leaf. The next time I came in this person was near the front and asked me if my quads got smaller and if I lost weight. I KNEW THE FAKE NICE WAS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE.

Good riddance. This place made me feel like I was back in high school. Awful awful awful staff.

Have had many female clients disclose harassment via employees/staff. Not a female friendly club or staff

I had such a horrible experience at this facility. The staff was beyond rude and unhelpful. I would not recommend the gym. The employees at this gym told me I was not allowed to work out at their facility despite paying for and having am active peak membership which allows me too utilize any crunch facility. After an inappropriate comment made by their employee, I even went as far to pull up my banking records that show I actively pay for my crunch membership. I don't know what their problem is with me, when I was only there to work out on my own personal downtime, i dont even interact with any other members. I've always just minded my business but the staff feels it is ok to harass people.

Customer service is trash.

There apparently is an issue with my account ONLY at this location and they refused to resolve the situation. Instead they harassed me and eventually told me that I couldn't come anymore.

Not only was I harassed by the staff, I was forced to make the decision to stop using the facility all together because the employees stopped honoring the membership I was paying for. Unprofessional and staffed by individuals who think it's appropriate to alienate their member base.

Seems like a good deal for the price you pay. Try it.

Crunch Ypsilanti has the worst general manager. The general manager identifies as some sort of owner of them. She yelled at me and humiliated me at the register and then kick me out for late fees with another gym. The other gym (Ann Arbor) never makes a fuss and definitely would never humiliate their patrons in public and kick them out. I asked her to lower her voice and why she’s yelling and she said because of my attitude? Even though she was yelling at me in front of her co workers.

I went today to sign up at crunch and Theo was amazing. He helped me with the process and answered all the questions I have. He did an amazing job and I look forward to start working out there.
Staff are friendly there , clean place, and has all different machines and areas that help you with your goals.

Very positive experience. Motivated crowd, plenty of equipments, and clean facility. Couldn’t have made this review shorter. Would recommend this place any day over other big chain gyms in the locality.

Hard to beat at $10/mo. Bigger than Planet Fitness, and more equipment, obviously. Staff don’t seem to like to organize weights or clean the locker rooms.

Love the staff, friendly atmosphere, and the suana! They even listen to their customers feedback and have kept the locker rooms so clean in 2022!! Would love it if they start putting more sports games on the TVs instead of random irrelevant shows (doesn’t help any that there’s no volume) and stay open later than 11p on weekdays and especially 8p on the weekends 🙏🏽

The GM she is unprofessional, no customer service whatsoever! Every time I came in she was rather talking or hanging out with gym members than doing her job. The bathrooms is trash..always dirty. I don't know maybe dayshift is good, but after 4pm. There is literally no control. The GM would rather be confrontational with me, rather than actually helping. I been trying to get into contact with management for so long. Finally she contacted me back talking about she cannot help. She lied and said she left voice-mails. BTW men sauna doesn't work most of the time. The staff is completely different when big bosses around. The clean, fix equipment etc. But when they left alone most on their phone. Would just recommend ann arbor or another gym. 1 star because of the brand.
P.S: Do not threaten people with collections when they are trying to pay you!

Honestly I really enjoy this gym. I have been a member at a handful of different chain gyms and so far this one besides Golds in TN is one of the best. However I do have to make note there was an issue with the state of the locker rooms at one point. I was able to speak with Dan on the matter and it was resolved professionally. They say leaders lead by example. Takes a strong leader and a good businessman to acknowledge and efficiently address the concerns that are brought to the attention of the team. Coming from a local business owner I can sincerely appreciate the forward approach and resolution.
