Detroit Yoga Lab is a contemporary, intentionally designed studio space in the heart of the city. Our clean, minimal aesthetic reflects our approach to yoga: clear, grounded, and focused.
We specialize in a practice that goes beyond movement. Here, you’ll find breathwork, meditation, and mindful sequencing designed to support the whole person—body, mind, and nervous system.
We are proud to be the first yoga studio in Detroit to offer healing infrared heat, enhancing the body’s natural detoxification and supporting deeper restoration on and off the mat.
We don’t just teach poses. We teach presence.
Our classes invite you to explore the full spectrum of yoga: from dynamic flows to meditative stillness.

I recently joined with their new student special (21 days unlimited for $49) and I’ve been going everyday. I’ve never been much of a yoga person but I’ve really been getting into it. I’ve been to a few other studios in Detroit but they’re so packed. They make me feel claustrophobic. There is always plenty of space at DYL. All the teachers are so nice and do a great job. And they usually have special events on the weekends.

I came into Detroit for a conference in June 2025, and was just looking for a place to practice. I didn't expect much, but what met me when I walked in the doors was a balm.
The teachers here are suuuuper dropped in, experienced, and kind. They remember your name. And they know how to teach (I've worked in and adjacent to the yoga world for 15 years). I practiced with Argy and Rebecca on a few occasions while I was in town, and it was absolutely the breath/movement balance I needed.
They are goooood... and also great for folks who are building their practice, as they teach from the ground up, so it's accessible for those who are trying to learn more.
Also, I appreciate their studio- a wood-paneled heated studio, but not too hot, and they were generous with their mats. I recommend bringing a towel, but ultimately... just go. They are awesome.

Tucked into a converted storefront on Forest Avenue, Detroit Yoga Lab occupies the sweet spot between Midtown's gritty industrial heritage and the city's wellness renaissance. The studio, originally designed by M1DTW Architects as "Yoga Shelter," exemplifies Detroit's knack for transforming utilitarian spaces into something unexpectedly transcendent.
The architecture tells the story immediately. Exposed ductwork snakes across soaring ceilings, while floor-to-ceiling windows flood polished hardwood floors with natural light. A coral-toned feature wall, adorned with geometric patterns, provides visual warmth against the industrial bones—a design choice that feels both contemporary and rooted in place. This is yoga for a city that builds things.
The space succeeds because it doesn't try to hide what it is. Steel beams and concrete floors coexist with curated retail displays and living plant installations. The result feels authentically Detroit: honest about its industrial past while embracing a more mindful future. The boutique area, with its warm wood paneling and thoughtful lighting, could anchor any trendy neighborhood, yet it feels organic here.
Sam's Saturday morning Vinyasa exemplified the studio's ethos of accessible excellence. Her sequencing—pyramid to chaturanga, warrior variations flowing into side angle, then goddess pose opening hips before the deeper work of lotus, pigeon, lizard, and half splits—felt both classical and contemporary. The extended boat poses challenged without overwhelming, a reflection of Detroit Yoga Lab's trauma-informed approach under owner Dana Hafer's leadership.
What strikes you most is the studio's genuine inclusivity. This isn't performative wellness culture but something more substantial. Families practice alongside serious yogis, ClassPass drop-ins mingle with monthly members, and the 25-45 female demographic feels less like market segmentation than natural community formation. The gentle heating system that warms without overwhelming, mirrors this philosophy of supporting rather than forcing.
The operational details reveal thoughtful curation: quality loaner props, efficient booking systems, and a retail selection that suggests genuine care for practitioners' needs rather than mere profit maximization. Even the water fountain feels considered, positioned for easy access without disrupting the flow of movement.
Detroit Yoga Lab represents something larger than wellness tourism. It's yoga for people who live and work in cities, who need practices that acknowledge both strength and vulnerability. The architecture reinforces this—industrial enough to feel honest, refined enough to inspire transformation. In a city hopefully rebuilding itself block by block, this studio offers a template for how adaptive reuse can serve both community and commerce.
The space works because it doesn't apologize for being in dirty Detroit—it celebrates it. Like the city itself, Detroit Yoga Lab has found power in embracing what it is while reaching toward what it might become.

I was looking for somewhere to help me get back into regular practice. And serendipitously, I walked by the studio while I was downtown for another event. I saw their introductory special and immediately went home to check out their website. I saw they had a variety of classes, especially ones later in the evening, which was what I was looking for. I signed up that night. When I went for my first class, I felt so welcomed, and I knew that I had found my new yoga home. Every encounter I have had at the studio has been positive Welcoming and loving. The classes have been both enjoyable, and challenging. I have and I would recommend this yoga studio to anyone.

I love this studio and can't say enough about it- the teachers are excellent and teach grounding practices that encourage individuals to expand and grown within themselves and within the community. They have a a great balance of different types of classes- vinasaya, slow flow, yin and offer great workshops. (I've been practicing yoga for 10+ years and I've never found anything that compares to how great of a community and space to practice that DYL is) Detroit Yoga Lab is a place that has built authentic community and is always looking to better serve the community- whether it's adding infrared heated classes, or updating how to register for classes or offering new ways for people to practice!

Almost the perfect set up for my yoga addiction. I live in Ohio and have only experienced Detroit Yoga online. They have a fantastic streaming set up - which works just about all the time. The few occasions there are technical issues, they have a wealth of recorded videos available in their library. The studio offers a lot of classes every day and many great instructors. During the week, there noon, 4:30 and 5:30 classes which fits my work schedule great. I work from home and enjoy taking a lunch break or catching a class to end my day. The only thing I would like better is more yin/restorative classes and a little cheaper monthly fee. I highly recommend you check it out if you are at all interested.

I've been going to Detroit Yoga Lab for a few months now and I love it! Every instructor that I have practiced with have been great and unique to their own practice. The environment is quite welcoming and encouraging. There are events and different opportunities happening every month so there's always a chance to get involved in different ways. The location is great, very walkable area and free street parking nearby. My only complaint is there being no early/morning weekday classes (which I would love to take advantage of if ever offered), other than that this place is practically perfect. Grateful to have found the detroit yoga lab - hoping to continue my practice here for a long while!

I recently began practicing yoga regularly and I’ve been loving my unlimited month of yoga at DYL. It’s been a great opportunity to try a variety of classes with different instructors (all of whom are incredible), while I figure out what classes I prefer. Nothing beats taking them in-person, but I greatly appreciate that most can also be participated in online when that isn’t an option.

I absolutely love DYL! Have you ever been somewhere that felt like home? Warm, quaint, and just where you needed to be. That’s what DYL feels like when entering. I used to practice yoga consistently for over a year many moons ago when they were newer and found flexibility, more strength and peace. Then life happened.
Fast forward to end of 2022 where I joined back up with a November challenge. Yup, they hold challenges to get your body and mind focused. I wanted to push myself to get back active and find a good stress relieving activity. I finished the month and joined again. It felt as warm and welcoming as it did many years ago even with me starting from scratch again.
Definitely a yoga studio I’d recommend to anyone in the area with in person, virtual, replay and even outdoor options which I have not had the pleasure to attend just yet. There are classes for beginners, intermediate and those that are seasoned in their practice.

We have been attending classes at Yoga Lab intermittently for years initially lured in by the $35/two weeks offer advertised outside on a sidewalk board.
Skilled instructors, a constant schedule that includes a variety of approaches to yoga, easy parking, excellent central location are some attributes. Oh yes, did we mention skilled instructors?
Probably the most important aspect is that it feels safe. Living a life under constant threat, identity theft…you know… the usual, when the body wants more yoga this is the place to go, without qualification.

I attended a class lead by Stephen Acosta and Shayna Danto this evening at the Detroit Yoga Lab on Forest in Detroit. I enjoyed the experience very much. Shayna started with a nice relaxation/meditation exercise, and then Stephen and Shayna lead an interactive and thought provoking talk about Yoga Sutras and Yamas and Niyamas. I'm a recent retiree and new to yoga. I was the oldest person there but felt welcome. I found the concepts we discussed relevant to me at this time in my life and am very glad I went to the class.
The class was held in a large room with beautiful hardwood floor, attractive walls, and a peaceful safeness that made a perfect setting to experience the class. Everyone was wearing a mask and we socially distanced ourselves. There was free parking across the street.

I am forever grateful to have this safe space where I can learn and commit to myself and my inner work with all the support I need. From the community, the staff, and the many offerings I can create a schedule tailored to my needs, EVEN DURING A PANDEMIC! I absolutely love being able to choose to practice in a way where I feel safe. Some days that is in studio, some days that’s from the comfort of my home on zoom. I love learning new tips and tricks in the workshops and especially have a soft spot for the journaling classes: odyssey. The replays have been so convenient for me too, the last thing I want to do is be overwhelmed trying to get to a class when I know I don’t have time, being able to access them later on has really helped me keep up with my practice even on busy days! I could go on and on, thank you all so much ❤️

I have enjoyed Detroit Yoga Lab since it was part of the Yoga Shelter studios and more so now as Naomi took that leap and went independent-female owned. Their classes are fully guided, which I like, and even virtually, they do a wonderful job on mindful self adjustments. Being a nurse and working through this pandemic, the teachers, classes, and flows have made all the difference mentally and physically over this past year(getting out of my own head for an hour). I have come to love my practice at home in my new "Zen Den" room that has almost evolved on its own with my yoga practice, I almost prefer it but I do miss the community feel of the "studio" and human connection. I am looking forward to getting back to some 'in-studio' classes soon. Thank you to all the staff at DYL for making my virtual practice challenging and rewarding. Continue to stay safe and strong and I'll see you back on the mat. Namaste.

DYL is a supportive, inspiring, and welcoming space to practice yoga in Detroit! I took a 200HR YTT program here and now I practice here, and I can honestly say DYL has been a blessing to my life. The teachers all are unique and teach in a way that is anatomically safe and focused on being the best you that you can be.The classes all seem to blend both traditional and contemporary concepts of yoga appropriately. The studio doesn’t seem to have the kind of overly performance-driven, “hip” yoga, trendiness aspect that I have experienced in other studios either. The studio also has a lot of educational workshops and guest teacher workshops, so there really is an environment of learning and growing created. Every time I enter the building I feel support and peace, from the people who work and teach here, the people who practice here, and even in the space’s ambiance. I recommend DYL to both new and experienced yogis!! :)

Detroit Yoga Lab is great! Lots of types of classes with experienced instructors. Plus they have morning, mid day and evening classes, so I can go multiple times a week even with my busy schedule. Would definitely recommend to anyone ranging from beginner to experienced yogi.

I've been going to this studio for about two weeks and I absolutely love it. The classes are versatile, well-scheduled, and challenging but accessible. Although I would recommend getting a bit of a foundation first if you have never tried yoga before. The teachers here are so so wonderful. They are great at talking you through how to align your body in a pose and modifying poses if need be. I am so happy with this studio.

Amazing ambiance with great yoga instructors! Their practice is very easy to get into regardless if you're a beginner or an expert. I haven't been on a yoga mat in five years, and it was very easy for me to get back into the flow of things!

I need to make some changed in my daily routine. I need to be still and relax. I will say ever since my first class I have felt refreshed, calm and able to release any of the negative energy that was weighing on em.
The staff is so great, they have welcomed me and helped find the right class to begin this new journey as soon to be "yogi" for life.
THANK YOU

I really like the pace of the classes here! I see myself and my practice advancing consistently, which really helps to keep me coming back! The teachers are engaging, thoughtful and always willing to make time to speak one on one.
Not always, or even that often, but sometimes the classes can be a bit on the fuller side. However, Ive been embracing this as a challenge/tool to focus and enhance my practice! The community/environment is ultra non-competitive, which also lends towards a more focused practice!
After my month trial ended I signed up for six months unlimited... so needless to say, I will definitely be going back!!

So pleased with my time at Detroit Yoga Lab. I began with a handstand workshop and signed up that day as a member. I really appreciate the class variety (some hot, some not...I thrive in the "not"), the instructor support, and the affordability of the memberships. It also doesn't hurt that the studio is a 10 minute walk from my office, so the location is a major bonus.

Great instructors, good music, clean and inviting space, flexible schedule, affordable. All classes are 45 min - 1 hour which is my ideal window before I get distracted and lose focus. Highly recommend, especially if you like to mix up your practices.

No matter what is going on in my day or my life, this is always a safe space of encouragement, peace and positive energy. I've become stronger mentally and physically since practicing at DYL and that keeps be coming back! Classes with Amy C. are my favorite! Keep up the great work, DYL!

This is the first yoga studio I have ever belonged to and I love it!! Lindsey’s classes are amazing even the hot ones. She breaks everything down really well so my form my has drastically improved. Naomi is the owner, super approachable and very friendly. But don’t let her niceness fool you her classes are challenging, but doable for any level of yogi!!

I practice yoga mainly for stress-relief and flexibility (trying to counteract all of the terrible things that running does to my hips), so I've especially enjoyed the Yin and VinYin classes. The instructors keep a slow pace with clear instructions, an emphasis on breathing, and plenty of modifications for difficult poses. My legs are feeling much better, and it's been a pleasant surprise to find that with the right preparation I can actually relax during savasana!

What I like about DYL: This is not a power work out session (though you will sweat) but rather an exercise in connecting with your breath, your energy and your body! I feel comfortable here because of the diverse public – have seen a normal representation of body types which makes for a non-intimidating and inclusive community (yay!). The room is always warm, but not unbearably hot! The use of music is considerate – it tends to enhance the experience and never overpowers the instructors. Highly recommend.

Having practiced yoga for 8 years and recently moving back to Detroit, I tried out many of the studios in the area. I fell in love with DYL because of the well-trained instructors and the energy of the studio. Very welcoming when you enter and the instructors make an effort to introduce themselves to the students. Naomi (owner) is one of the best teachers I've practiced with- she is very intuitive and has incredible body consciousness. Would recommend this studio for more advanced yogis and beginners but let them know that you are a beginner :)

First visit was on Wednesday evening for Infrared HOT Fusion with Amy Koenig. Where to start? First of all, it's a warm and welcoming place, totally inviting. Just a beautiful space. And the class was perfect. I felt totally at home, even though this particular class was a little (or a lot) above my skill-level. Although there wasn't a lot of hand-holding; not a lot of walking you through the postures (as there probably is at other DYL classes) Amy was totally there with us, her reminders to "forget how it looks; focus on how it feels" spot on. I'll definitely be back.

Really relaxed studio with a solid array of classes and wonderful instructors. I love their retail selection as well. They definitely take extra care to know your name and get to know you a little up at the front, which I appreciate. Everyone is super nice and it's not a high pressure, competitive environment like other spots can sometimes be. It's pretty affordable as well and has good parking options, which for midtown is a huge plus. Just wish they had more classes in the late morning :)

First class -- candlelight yin with Rebecca Ruth -- was excellent. I bought the intro deal they're offering now, 5 classes for 30 bucks, and I'll continue after I use that up.
Since I work out in other ways, I'm mostly interested in yoga for flexibility and balance and so go for the slow-flow classes at room temp, but this class, like most, did all the things: since we came in after a bikram class, the studio was still warm, the initial flows were at a good pace so there was a little aerobic and, to my mind, a lot of strength, with some balance thrown in as well. The last 20 minutes gave me the stretches that I came for.
The logistics are easy, the people are welcoming, Rebecca was clear and helpful and offered modifications for many of the poses. All good!

Detroit Yoga Lab is an awesome place to practice! I never enjoyed yoga and was nervous to try it again, but this studio made it very easy to get into it. Sometimes the instructions go fast and it's hard to keep up if you're new, but it is a very non-judgmental atmosphere and the teachers are always willing to answer questions after class. Another plus is that there are so many different teachers that you're bound to find one whose classes you really enjoy. I highly recommend it, especially with their 5 classes for $30 deal!

I am new to Detroit, and am only here for the summer. I researched yoga spots in town to find a place that seemed most comfortable with a good location and prices that were reasonable for me, as a student. I was delighted to find Detroit Yoga Lab because they are a cool studio teaching creative flows that are different but challenging, and very fun. I have been treated with respect and openness and those things go very far in my book. I am really grateful to have found this place and encourage everyone to give them a try.
