Brayden was amazing at getting me started here (first time at this gym). He made it welcoming and simple. Loved the walls. Great climbing and great people!

My family has had great experiences here. I am not a climber, but it has been so fun bringing my children 4 and 6 to climb and build confidence. The staff is very knowledgeable and attentive making sure the harnesses are safe and going over the rules in a patient and friendly way.

We will be back and look forward to trying some of the summer camps in the future!

Amazing. Most friendly staff. Have been trying to find a place similar to other locations we have visited in other states. Great customer service, safety first, and options for auto belay options as well as staff that can do belay. Family friendly and just an overall awesome vibe. Highly recommend and please open one downstate!

visited from detroit! as gyms go it was definitely small. for the size and the space though they really packed in a lot of good routes and problems. we climbed for about 3 hours and never ran out of stuff to try!! it wasn’t busy and the employees were really nice and knowledgeable. we signed in, filled out our waivers, and did our top rope belay check. all in all about a half hour of admin stuff before hitting the wall. if you’re in the area and itching to climb, check this place out!! we will definitely come back next time we’re up here!

edit: BYOBD. they do not provide belay devices. only ABDs allowed (atc pilot, grigri, neox, etc)

Not for more experienced boulderers in my opinion. The grades seemed a bit out of touch and some very weird setting. If you’re climbing v6 or above and looking for relatively serious training I wouldn’t recommend bouldering here. I guess the grades being weird would make sense for it being the only gym in the area and no outdoor bouldering nearby.

The reason for the 3 star review is that a hold was not screwed in tightly. Really lowered my confidence on the wall. Also some of the holds feel and look low quality. This is definitely a smaller scale gym and more intimate in feel. The bouldering section is not that large, and the setting felt weird (from what I'm used to). I can't comment on the top rope, auto-belay or yoga, but my bouldering experience was very average. By no means does this reflect the helpfulness of the staff. The staff member at the front desk was helpful and polite. I wouldn't come back solely based on the limited bouldering area.

Gym was kickass! Came here hailing from out of state and wanted to check out gyms in the area. Took my buddy who snowboards here to show him the ropes and had a killer time. Brayden was the kindest soul to everyone around him and gave us a sweet lil orientation and TR test. Fitness space blew me out the water compared to other indoor gyms. You can tell Everything is regularly maintained and checked up on. I could list billers to what I liked, but then it wouldn’t be fair. Check this place out!

I have visited here a handful of times with my son- always great, but what has prompted me to finally leave a review was the excellent experience we had for our Cub Scout den this week. The team was very accommodating for our group of 8 children with adults, helped us set up our room for initial learning activities, and professionally handled the safety demo for 8 ramped up 5 & 6 year old boys. Thanks again everyone for a great experience for our den!

My kids had a BLAST. We got day passes. They climbed for a few hours, we left to eat lunch, and came back to climb until they were too tired to even grip the wall. Staff are attentive but unintrusive until necessary. Very safety focused. My 13 year old is now watching bouldering videos on YouTube.

This gym is epic! Tall walls and the training area has everything you need, and then some. We found the staff really friendly, and the air conditioning is glorious. They also have a friendly gym dog that is super chill.

If you’re climber and find yourself in Traverse City definitely stop by here, and I recommend grabbing lunch or dinner from Raduno down the street.

Some other things to note: They do require you bring your own belay device (we had grigris but saw others using ATCs at the time of writing this), and I recommend calling ahead to find a time to do your lead test if you’re planning to lead. There is no kilter board (or similar).

Found the grading a bit sandbagged compared to my home gym, but it was pleasant suprise ☺️

This is an amazing space. We got in about 15 minutes after open yesterday (a Tuesday) and the staff were super helpful getting us set up. Ronnie walked us through everything and then sent us on our way (and also offered some good beta later on lol). Lots of great bouldering routes, and they still had up some of the Valentine's couples routes which were way too challenging for my partner and I, but extremely fun all the same. We'll be sure to visit again the next time we're up there!

The staff was very friendly and helpful. The gym was clean and quite open. We were just there for bouldering, so it was a bit small. I wish they had a different day rate for just boulding as they seem very top rope oriented. Routes seemed tightly packed, which led to a little bit of path confusion/having to work around other holds.

As a family of of 6 getting into a new hobby I can say that I impressed with the experience that the staff at Elev8 have provided. They have been very helpful in making you feel welcomed and promote learning and safety. My 5 and 8 year old love every aspect of the climbing gym. It is also a great spot for my high schooler to go "hangout at" where I know that it is a positive environment. It pushes kids to be strong and independent (plus it burns some of their energy especially on bad weather days).

Having Elev8 in TC is definitely a value added asset to the community. Do not be distracted by their parking lot when it appears "full". Even on "busy" days what looks like a crowd thins quickly, as climbing is more challenging than what many people believe. Their willingness to want to grow their sport and experience is very clear.

NOT for kids under 8 who have never climbed before! Just reviewing to set expectations for everyone: If you are looking for a fun activity to do with your small (ages 7 and below) kids and they've never climbed before, THIS IS NOT IT!!!!

Pros: Clean facility! Super friendly staff! Seems like they're on top of safety protocols!

Cons: there is no separated area for beginners (or small kids). Likewise, there is no area for advanced climbers. So, if your 2 year old wants to climb (and needs the autosplay- there were only 6 in the whole place) you'll stand in a long line waiting for someone to be done, only to feel rushed, as there are people waiting behind you. In the same vein, you yourself cannot climb or enjoy the facility because there is no area where the kids can just explore the wall- you need to be with them every second. My 4 year old was walking on the mats (because he is 4 and doesn't remember he can't walk on the mats, he has to get off and walk around- for safety reasons), and was shouted at several times "YOU CANNOT WALK ON THE MAT". They weren't being rude- they're just being cautious, but I could not help my 2 year old, and 4 year old, and watch my 7 year old at the same time. My husband was there and we paid for him to climb, but unfortunately, he wasn't really able to participate because we were helping our boys.
None of this is the fault of the staff, however, if there was a designated area for beginners and/or for smaller children- we would've had a much more enjoyable experience. We wouldn't have been competing with advanced climbers or bigger kids.
Overall- we spent $70, and we were there for about 45 minutes until everyone just got really tired of fighting the crowd and trying to actually climb.
I did call prior to the visit, and was told it was appropriate for all ages, and that there was plenty for my 2 and 4 year old to do. Just overall disappointed in the experience - because after talking to staff it just wasn't what we expected. But now we know :)

Really appreciate this climbing gym. We used to make it a day trip and drive 2.5 hours one way just to get to this gym and it was always worth it! They have it all β€” bouldering, big wall, different yoga classes, workout equipment, autobelays.. Such a good experience.

I was pretty disappointed with the experience that was had at this place. I will say this review is about a month late. If you are only going for the day, I would not suggest you go.

I called ahead to ask quite a few questions because we climb both inside and outside in Missouri and Arkansas. I talked with staff about their set up in the gym like knots used, equipment needed like belay device types that were acceptable or rentable. I was told that we could get belay certified so my son could climb anything they had the day they decided to go.
When the family showed up they were informed that they would need to take the belay class, and it was only offered on a couple days of the week. They don't allow you to test out because that was asked to do. So my son climbed for about an hour and a half, and had done everything they had in his skill level multiple times. This turned out to be a handful of auto belays and a few boulder problems.

Might have been less disappointing had the phone conversation beforehand been consistent with what was found when they got there.

After this experience we will not be back.

I have only climbed a small rotating rock wall at my hometown ymca back in Middle school and I don't like heights. So, why was I at the climbing gym, you ask? As an on-again off-again yoga devotee, there's yoga here and it is just 15$ per class. My lower back says "thank you, hallelujah." You can pursue the active pursuits- climbing or more active/vinyasa yoga or you can lean into more 'restore'-ative or gentle, I want to sleep good tonight-type activities

We've been here twice now and it's easily my new favorite activity to do with my son. We came in one day on one of his days off and he instantly fell in love with this place. The staff are sooooo patient and friendly. He climbed for 4.5 hours the first time and loved it so much, begged us to have his birthday party here. He said it was the best party he's ever had. He had so much fun, I had to try climbing with him and as a super out of shape person, I was able to find a route that I could get all the way to the top. This gym itself is very nice, I’ve been maybe 5-6x while passing through TC. The staff are friendly, with the exception of two occasions where the guests I brought were a bit newer, and the staff member we were working with acted demeaningly and made my partners feel stupid and embarrassed. This most recent time we left shortly after arrival because my partner no longer wanted to climb after the interaction.

Had never tried climbing before. Loved the new experience. Was always stuck watching over the few kids that were too timid to try it when at my own kids birthday parties. Gotta say, it was a blast. Afraid of heights, but was so intent on finding next hand and foot holds that i never looked down and never was scared. What an awesome climbing gym!! This place is pretty large for where it’s located. They have 47 (I think) foot walls which is probably the tallest I’ve ever found in a climbing gym in Michigan, though I’m sure there’s bigger walls somewhere else haha.

The grading feels very fair and a bit more representative of what outdoor climbing feels like than other gyms I’ve been to. I’m usually not a fan of the multi level grading (V1/V2 or V4/V5) but I felt that elev8 does a good job of grading.

The staff and climbers were all super nice and while I didn’t need any help while I was there I could tell they’d be willing to help anyone in a heart beat :)

I can’t wait to come back in the future and see some elev8 climbers at my home gym scrapyard climbing collective for some climbing competitions!

Climbing walls have toprope, auto-belay, lead climbing, and bouldering. Climbing classes too. Shoe, harness & chalking rental available. No need to bring a mat or props for yoga classes.

As a person who doesn't have a ttpical climber's body type, I was made to feel comfortable & assured that this is an inclusive gym--you don't have to be tiny to climb. Had a great time, will be back!

Went for first time on a date with my wife. It was quiet on a summer Saturday evening as expected. The lady working the front desk thoughtfully walked us through everything. Only possible negative I can come up with is that they "only" have 4 auto-belays? That's not really a negative though. If you're a beginner like me, four is plenty and if you're experienced, you're probably climbing with a friend who can belay. If that's the case, crazy tons of routes to climb.

Checked out this place with a few of my friends while on a camping trip. The gym staff was very friendly and the place was very clean. One thing that stood out to me was how good their holds felt. It's so common for gyms to have holds that are polished or greasy and this was not the case here. The grades felt rather soft and don't go very high but the route design felt inspired with only a handful of left, right, left, right, sequences. Really, at the end of the day, the environment was friendly and I had a lot of fun talking to the locals, and trying out as many routes as I could. If you have never climbed this would be a great place to start! If you are a strong climber this place makes for an enjoyable afternoon but will be lacking multi session projects. This place is now on my list of must visit when I'm in the area.

We've been climbing seriously for years and have visited gyms all around the country.

ELEV8 is doing great right out of the gate. The facility is nice, the staff were friendly, there seems to be a solid community of climbers developing in the area, and more importantly the route setting is on point (the hardest thing to get right!).

About the only thing lacking for the really hardcore folks is access to something like a moonboard or similar, but otherwise things are off to an awesome start.

This place is GREAT. The orientation they gave us was clear and concise, the climbing shoes were clean and so was the whole building. The gym upstairs was great and everything in it seemed new. Will 100% be going back.

Our little guy, Guy, has attended multiple climbing lessons with instructor Brayden. Brayden's friendly, positive attitude and encouragement are what drives Guy to attend climbing classes.
Because of climbing, Guy has become stronger and has more confidence.
Elev8 is exactly what Guy needs. Thank you Elev8 and Thank you Brayden!

A very cool place! The staff was super nice, and even instructed us on how to Slack Line. This is a great place for the whole family. Conquer your fear of heights, or just try something new, you'll have fun.

I love this place and everyone in it. It's makes me love exercising for the first time in my life. They change the routes and offer classes. They have pop ups and movies. Family friendly, a day care if you call I believe a day or two ahead for the very little ones. Bottom and top rope courses offered. Yoga classes. They have it all.

Went with a group of friends for a date night. Super fun night. An all day pass includes classes that day so we went to the Acro Yoga, couples yoga class. It was so much fun, challenging too but the teachers Nick and Chelsea were awesome! By the end of the class we were all flying and crowning and doing all kinds of crazy fun acro yoga poses. Then climbing afterwards to cap off the evening!

Not much of a climber so I checked out one of their yoga classes since they are so close to me. Great instructor (I think it was Samantha? She didn’t introduce herself) for the β€œElev8 and chill” class, definitely got a good workout and stretch in.

Mats were available for use with disinfectant wipes at the end. 22$ for drop in class.

One weird thing is that the website says β€œ60-75 minutes”. Class was an hour, which is obviously fine, just kind of weird to specify a range.

Edit:
Class prices have been reduced to a more affordable 15$ which is great, or $120 for a 10 class lunch card.

Also they have installed some blinds are the windows which is great so the sun is not beaming right into your face! Great actioning on some feedback :)

We had a birthday party for my 10 year-old and the process was great from start to finish. Very friendly and helpful on the phone. Augusta was our host for the day and she was great with the kids, the private room was nice enough for what we were using it for. Highly recommend.

Great climbing gym - more routes being set and they're expanding the wall space. Currently good long single wall for bouldering and two areas for top ropes. Some interesting auto-belays installed.

Welcoming staff, good quick tour and safety induction and series of lockers to stow kit. Drinking fountain, toilets and a 'lonely ropes' board for folk finding a climbing partner.

Good place to visit for a couple of hours (fingers dependent!)

I just popped in to check it out (haven't actually climbed yet) and was super impressed by the facility. It's much bigger than I expected and the walls are beautiful. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Child care option for $5 is very much appreciated, and I'm just hoping they'll be able to offer more weekend hours for that.

I absolutely love this place. Absolutely so much fun! It doesn’t matter if your a new climber or experienced, they have options available to everyone. I’m so glad that the owners built this is Traverse. They also have some really fun classes and a small gym area to use. The employees are always so nice and helpful, it’s like a big family! They also keep it super clean inside, and make everyone feel welcome! I highly recommend you go try it out!

My 3 1/2 year old daughter, 1 year old baby and I went on their opening day. I can’t even begin to explain how excited I am to have Elev8 in our community. Although I was alone with two young children, we had an amazing time. I was greeted by the owner personally, who was very welcoming, professional, and patient with us as my daughter was eager to start and exploring every corner of the place. My 3 1/2 year old had a fantastic time trying auto belay, and we cannot wait to go back. This place is brand new, squeaky clean and a wonderful space to be in. It was clearly built with a lot of great taste, everything looks just perfect. I also really appreciated their rules on cleanliness, such as no climbing shoes in the bathrooms. Extra point on this.
I have to add that I was beyond happy to see they also have a childcare option for $5 an hour if I remember correctly. A beautiful little room with a glass wall so that you can peak and see your baby/child from
time to time. This is the only way that I could possibly work out or climbing time, being alone with two little ones, and I will definitely be enjoying this extra service. So, thank you for that too. We will be regulars!

So excited to have a climbing gym in northern Michigan! Quality route setting from beginner to fairly difficult. Super clean. But honestly, a big reason I’m leaving this review is because of the child care room. $5 an hour to have my 2-year-old watched by the amazing Sam while my wife and I get to climb. No more chasing around my kid while trying to belay my wife. Other gyms in the country, please follow Elev8’s example. So happy to have an hour or so to workout and shred the gnar sans baby, priceless!

Climb - if they let you. They didn’t let me belay because I’ve been used to a different technique for well over 10 years. Most gyms are OK with other experience or give you time to get used to their way and equipment, but not this one.

I learned to belay 20 years ago with an old school ATC, learned another technique after that, then had to switch to a GriGri. I would have enjoyed learning their belay technique and device, but wasn’t given the time to do so. They either want to extract money for a needless belay class or are very narrow minded. There should be a way to let experienced climbers get used to their way of doing things.

I would like to qualify that I’m by no means an expert. I gym climb in the off season only and took last season off because of COVID. So it’s been 2 years, and I’m a little rusty. But again, I would have caught on if they would have explained their way more thoroughly and been given at least like 5 minutes to catch on.
