Friction is amazing! The coaches will go above and beyond to help you reach your goals and guide you through the right path. I joined friction a couple of months ago and I feel great. I joined friction not knowing much about CrossFit but the coaches helped me using the right form and techniques to do the workouts properly. I enjoy the part that every time I am done with a workout the next day Iโm sore. Coaches check up on you as well to see how are you doing. I have enjoyed my journey with friction.

This is a place of learning. Itโs a small gym. There are very few machines. Itโs mostly about free-weights and bodyweight abilities, and no worries, thatโs a Good thing. Here you learn about functional fitness, as in how to get fitter in terms of functional abilities you can use in life. The coaches are awesome - they help you learn to build your skill moving your body. There are ways you can move that are likely to cause injury, and there are ways you can move that keep you safe and make you stronger. You will work hard here, at your level, whatever that is. Come as you are. All the exercises adjust by skill and ability level, so wherever you are in your journey, you will be able to participate and leave with value.
Iโve been coming to this gym for close to two years now, every single week without exception the average still holds. Every single time without exception Iโm learning something new in here. This isnโt just a workout - this is physical education, something that will last you a lifetime.
When I first came to this gym I had daily knee pain, no matter what I did or did not do. It was a fact of life for many years after very heavy physical demands from a past line of work. I am pleased to report that working with a personal trainer here I have been able to make such improvements with my fitness that day to day, my knees donโt bug me anymore, and I have to do something especially exciting to be bothered by knee pain again. Over a decade of appointments with medical professionals wasnโt able to do that for me. Didnโt know it was possible to train your way out of chronic pain!!! Your mileage may vary depending on your situation!
If youโre willing to consistently show up, work hard, and stay humble to keep focused on learning, you can get some really good results here! I canโt emphasize enough the value of the personalized attention from the coaches, whether individually or in group settings. You get much faster results when your training programming adjusts around what you most need to work on at the time. If in doubt, ask a coach and theyโll point you in a good direction.

Friction Grand Rapids is a community driven gym with many options to chose from to help you meet your specific fitness goals. I appreciate the fact that I can come in for class and just do the programming, including the warm up. They also periodically run charitable and social events, which shows what they value. More than just a gym, Friction is a community. From a casual workout to anyone who wants to be a competitor, this is where you need to be. Lots of encouragement, from private 1 on 1's to group classes, Neutrino counseling, gymnastics, powerlifting and even a barbell club. There are so many options to fit in to anyone's budget and schedule. I have tried a few different gyms, but no one like Friction, I'm part of something, not just someone in a gym. If anyone out there is looking for a place to change their life, this is the place to be. Come flex somethin.

Absolutely LOVE friction! Was referred by a coworker and decided to try it out after being a gymnast/ cheerleader for the past 15 years of my life. I thoroughly enjoy the workouts presented for me, but what the people are what keep bringing me back. The trainers/ coaches at Friction are extremely knowledgeable and welcoming when it comes to crossfit and exercise physiology . I love that the staff workouts with the classes occasionally, you can tell they really practice what they preach. Thank you Friction for such a fun and positive way to keep me moving!

I joined Friction one month ago to get back into the CrossFit groove after the pandemic. I am in my 60s, healthy, but now have osteoporosis. It's been necessary to modify some of the movements, which is mentally easier to do when everyone is in the same boat. I'd been searching for Masters classes, and am happy to have discovered Friction!
The Masters class has welcoming, friendly, hard-working participants. Coaches are knowledgeable, and quick to help with technique flaws--very important in preventing injury. We come in all shapes, sizes, and fitness levels, with the common aim of improving health, energy, and strength.

Friction is absolutely amazing! I also have a unique perspective on health and fitness because I am a chiropractor. It is a very physical job and we also have in-depth knowledge on anatomy and physiology.
After 10 years of adjusting I was feeling some aches and pains and after going consistently I can confidently say they have extended my career. I have never felt stronger in my life.
Also all the coaches have great knowledge of how the body works. They are able to help your fitness and itโs not a cookie-cutter approach.
I personally recommend a lot of our practice members into friction. Sometimes the word CrossFit can be intimidating but really it means functional movement. So these are movements that help you with your every day life.
They have a no sweat free intro so I recommend taking advantage of that because you wonโt be disappointed!

I came to MI on a business trip and Friction Grand Rapids let me join them for the week. I couldnโt have had a better experience! Iโm relatively new to CrossFit (less than 9months), so it can be intimidating coming into a new gym still unsure of my abilities. Everyone, from the coaches to the other members, was so welcoming! They definitely pushed me but also gave me great feedback on areas of improvement at the same time. Itโs a really great community that youโd be lucky to be a part of. You should absolutely check them out!

I've been going to Friction Crossfit for just over 2 months and it's the most enjoyable exercise I've ever done. I have been working out at Friction for over 3 years. Crossfit gives me such a great all-over work out and you can make your workout as intense as you would like. I was so intimidated by all of the weights and bar bells when I first started, but the coaches here are so in tune to the athletes; they can see my struggle before I have to say anything. The community here is so welcoming and helpful that I felt at home right away. I am old enough to be a mother to most of the members and they treat me as an equal. I can scale some of the more difficult movements and still obtain a great workout. Friction is my happy place!

Joined Friction in 2016 and haven't looked back. It has been the best investment in my health that I could have ever chosen. I had the pleasure of dropping in on Crossfit Friction while I was in town for meetings this week. It's rare when you drop in on new places that you feel immediately welcome, especially for the morning classes when people are just crawling out of bed.
I would highly recommend dropping in if you are in town or even if you are looking for a new fitness place to set some roots. The coaching was great, the environment was welcoming and overall it was a great experience.

I've never enjoyed physical activity. Running was about the only thing I could force myself to do and that got boring fast. Crossfit has been the first exercise that I don't dread doing. In fact I actually look forward to each workout. It's fun, many varied, and I see results! When I say I see results, I am referring to my muscle tone as well as my physical capabilities. Progress becomes addicting. The coaches are dedicated and the community is friendly with no judgement.
The coaches are the coolest. They are probably the main reason I have been able to look forward coming in and enjoying working out. They are patient and quick to critique your form when it needs it so you get optimal performance. Not to mention they are just very easy going, decent people. They know their stuff and you can't help but trust them because their directions give great results.
I highly recommend Friction Crossfit. No matter what physical level you are at you will fit in and not feel intimidated. It's a good community here. Try it!

I had never done crossfit before. After I identified this Gym was growing still after three years, had an emphasis on gymnastic stretches to keep range of motion high, it was my first try. The gym and members are very friendly to all level. On my first few days met several people that just walked up and introduced themselves to me. In addition to that, the 1-on-1 introductory course was very helpful. Overall, I would recommend if you're looking for a community to help push you and improve yourself.

I've known about CrossFit for 4-5 years but was too intimidated to try it out because of what I assumed the workouts and environment were like. Back in April, though, a friend convinced me to walk through the doors of Friction for a workout and I couldn't be happier that I decided to give it a chance! I went through the Foundations course, jumped into regular classes, and have been working out there ever since. Hands down this is a great box to be apart of. I'm a newbie to the crossfit world. Prior to starting crossfit my exercise routine included running, group aerobic exercises, spin classes, and working with a personal trainer.
Moving forward I heard a lot about crossfit through co-workers and acquaintances. I reached out to Friction CrossFit through their website (email). A short while later Jeff B. (coach/co-owner) replied and set me up to come in the following week for a free trial (one week free trial to be exact).
My first day at Friction CrossFit, I was greeted by Coach Bobby, co-owner. Along with a group of awesome men and women. I was a bit nervous and didn't know what to expect. The first work out left me sore for days, but in a good way. The coaches make sure the moves are being performed correctly. I've mainly worked with Coach Bobby(co-owner). He is very patient, explains,and demonstrates the moves. Bobby puts a lot of emphasis on form and will scale your workouts according to your ability. He makes sure you have the technique mastered before moving on to heavy/heavier weight. It has been one month since I starting crossfit. I've learned a lot in such a short time. I still have a lot of work to do. The atmosphere at Friction CrossFit is very warm and inviting. Everyone supports one another and cheers each other through workouts. I enjoy the camaraderie amongst all the members.
Friction CrossFit is a great facility with a skilled, knowledgeable, and engaging coaching staff. A big thanks to the coaches (Bobby, Jeff, and Mike). You guys are kind of a big deal!!

I love everything about this gym!!! The coaches are amazing, they meet you where you are at and push you to find your best. The community here is just as amazing. The best part about this gym is the other folks who work out here. Nobody is here to show off, they are here to work hard and encourage others while doing so. I feel so much stronger and love the new goals I keep making and achieving since starting here several months ago. In the past I have been skeptical of cross fit because of the injuries we have seen in our office. My wife and I are both Chiropractors and from the very first day of meeting the team at Friction it was very clear that safety and technique was a priority! We love the instructors as well as the philosophy behind the workouts and the attention to detail. We also were looking for a gym that we could feel 100% confident in recommending to our office community and we found it with Friction. If you are looking for a cross fit gym utilize their introductory special and see if its the right place for you.

I was a three sport athlete in high school and played two sports in college as well. After not being able to continue, I kept working out on my own. But after a few years, my workouts became stale and I needed something to change it up, and CrossFit will definitely do that. I've been a member at Friction CrossFit for 5 months now and I'm in the best shape of my life, even better than high school. The coaches (Bobby, Jeff and now Mike) are all knowledgeable about how to coach different types of people, from the fitness enthusiast to every day couch potato. They have a new facility as of December 2014, stocked with top of the line equipment. The community is very diverse and friendly, so you will never feel intimidated when you walk in. The smaller class sizes at Friction ensure that the coaches are able to give you the attention you need when learning new exercises to ensure you're doing them right/safe or if you need pointers on your form. The workouts are always challenging and will leave you gasping for air, but wanting to come back for more. I look forward to coming to Friction everyday because of the coaches and the community. Overall, it's a great box!

I have played sports most of my life, but after high school that changed. I had to workout without the motivation of a coach pushing me, which is what i was used to. My workouts on my own were never as beneficial as the cardio and strength training I got from playing a sport. That is why I decided to give personal training a shot and how I met Bobby, (Friction coach/co-owner).
Bobby definitely pushed me during our workouts, and little did I know I was doing Crossfit moves without even knowing what crossfit was! When I heard that he was starting Friction Crossfit, I knew I had to check it out. I was not familiar with crossfit before this and decided to buy a groupon first to make sure I liked it. Best decision ever! I already knew some of the skills and what I didn't know the coaches (Bobby and Jeff) were there every step of the way to make sure that form was the most important and then accomplishing the skill.
There has not been one crossfit class that I have not enjoyed because it is fun and you are pushing yourself more than you would if you worked out alone! Each class has a maximum of 10 people so it stays small enough for one on one instruction when you need it. Making friends was easy because it's such a supportive community! I have noticed not only an improvement in my appearance, but also my strength. Crossfit is similar to a sport for me because it takes hardwork, patience, and dedication, which is what I have always loved. Plus it beats running on a treadmill any day :) Great coaches, great environment, check it out!

Friction CrossFit is a great community. The coaches are the most knowledgeable coaches I have met and not only do a great job teaching the movements but they also make sure you can master them. They are also extremely helpful in developing progressions so that you can eventually master a movement. I also noticed significant improvements since I joined Friction CrossFit. The WODs are always challenging and very well designed.
