The pool is warm, the staff is always friendly and helpful. I've been taking all my kids here from infants until they joined their school swim club. It's really expensive, but I guess that keeps out the riff raff - I feel like we get what we pay for. The kids love the ribbons and moving up ranks, so it's great for the babies.

Great place for the kids to learn to swim and be comfortable around water. We’ve been going to Goldfish Okemos since my son was just 4 months old — he’s now 4½, and we’ve loved every moment of it! The staff is always so welcoming and genuinely excited to see our family. First off I want to say that the environment is very welcome and the facility was very nice and clean. Staff were very friendly. My biggest issue which made it where we won’t go back…. They will not stop calling and texting trying to get us to sign up for a package deal of lessons. Even after we said we were not interested at this time they continued to call and text multiple times a day. Very pushy sales tactics. Also, they gave out our number to every other location so we are getting calls from every location in the state! We will not return due to this.

Last summer, my youngest daughter fell into our pool. We were all right there, and I was able to dive in immediately, but it was still one of the scariest moments of my life. This summer, something similar happened, she slipped into the pool without her floatie. But before I could even reach the water, she had already recovered and found the ladder on her own. Seeing that brought tears to my eyes. Watching her go from needing me in that moment to being able to protect herself was incredible.

I can't say enough good things about our experience at Goldfish Swim School. Our daughter was a little hesitant about getting in the water at first, but that all changed when she started working with her teacher, Lilly.
Lilly is an absolutely amazing instructor. She's so patient and kind, and she has this incredible ability to make learning feel like a game. Our daughter now splashes and giggles her way through every lesson, and her confidence in the water has skyrocketed. We've seen a noticeable improvement in her swimming skills, from her kicks to her breath control, and it's all thanks to Lilly's excellent teaching. I currently have four of my children enrolled at Goldfish, ranging in age from 8 years old to 4 months old—including one who is medically complex—and I cannot recommend this program highly enough.

The staff has gone above and beyond to ensure that each of my children feels supported, safe, and encouraged in the water. They’ve been especially thoughtful and accommodating with my medically complex child, working closely with her needs while still fostering confidence and skill development.

Goldfish provides monthly progress reports outlining the specific skills each child is working on and their individual growth. They do an incredible job of reinforcing bravery, commitment, and achievement in a way that makes kids feel proud.

This school is like a little haven for kids and adults of all ages. Decorated in bright colors with a beautiful floor-to-ceiling mural across the entire back wall of the pool room.

The pool is kept warm, so you don’t have to go through that initial cringe of stepping into cold water, and kids with sensory issues won’t find it to be so unpleasant. The pool depth is the same across the entire pool, so you won’t need to worry about keeping young swimmers away from the “deep end”.

Registration is simple when you call in or visit in person. Staff members are very polite and friendly. If your child misses a lesson, or if lessons are cancelled (for example, due to weather conditions) you will be issued a make-up token, which can be used for a drop-in lesson or family swim.

Instructors are very good with kids. Classes are small (3-4 kids per class), so your child will receive plenty of individualized attention. Lessons are scheduled for 30 minutes, which seems to be the perfect amount of time for children to enjoy themselves without losing focus. Even if your child is a few minutes late to a lesson, they are welcome to participate. Parents are able to watch the entire lesson in the viewing area, behind floor-to-ceiling glass.

After lessons, parents are invited into the pool area to chat with their child’s instructor about their progress and what to work on. Monthly progress reports are sent via email, as well. When children move up a level, parents are presented with a ribbon to give to their child, and are able to immediately go to the front desk to update their child’s enrollment. Staff are very good at accommodating busy schedules, with after-school, evening, and weekend classes available.

Family swims are very enjoyable, and a good opportunity for children to practice and show their parents what they have learned. Parents are allowed to come into the pool with their children, or if their child is able to swim on their own, parents have the option of sitting in the viewing area.

Shower area is kept very clean, and easy for parents to access, if child needs assistance (shampooing hair, providing towel, etc.). The changing area has individual changing rooms, so you don’t need to be worried about being separated from your child. There are hair dryers and a swimsuit drying machine as well.

The swim shop is small, but features many of the necessities; goggles, nose plugs, swim diapers, swimsuits, etc. The snack bar offers $1 snacks, which can be paid for using a card, or by billing to the account.

Lastly, birthday parties are so enjoyable! The party packages include everything you need to celebrate your child’s special day - invites, party favors, cupcakes, singing.. and plenty of time in the pool. The staff members were very friendly, even taking photos for us, serving food, and writing up a gift list so we could send thank-you notes after.

Had my two of my children enrolled here and was honestly so overpriced for the lessons they received. I stopped taking my child after one of their swim instructors let my 4 year old out of class early and wasn’t watching him and he jumped back into the pool. I got him out but 1. I expect my child to receive the FULL lesson I am paying for and 2. Make sure the child is with their parent before making them not your responsibility. She also had an attitude with my child the entire time. I was no longer going to be doing lessons with that instructor and now they will not allow me to use my make up tokens since they aren’t actively enrolled in a new class. I paid hundreds of dollars for classes they did not receive and apparently can’t now. I would absolutely stay away from this place.

We hosted a 3rd birthday party for my son at Goldfish Swim School. Everything was absolutely amazing. They helped us unload our car, greeted our guests at the door, took presents and put them away, and so much more. The lifeguards were very diligent about keep the kids safe and the staff checked in numerous times throughout. I cannot wait to have another event there. All of the attendees were raving. Goldfish has gone above and beyond in regards to making sure their facility is clean and up to CDC guidelines. The system in place (having lane assigned chairs, signs on changing huts, entering facility a few minutes before class, masks wearing, ect) is great! And I believe it has been communicated very well through emails, social media, signs in the facility. I know what to expect and I like that! And the staff has only been positive and friendly through all of this!

We just really appreciate what Goldfish has done to be able to be open. The few months that it was closed was hard for my daughter. She loves going to her swim lesson each week and adores her teacher. It’s a special environment that we do not take for granted!

Expectations for families is clearly posted and areas to ensure social distancing are clearly marked off. I see staff constantly sanitizing the parent viewing area, bathrooms, pool deck, and changing rooms. I feel every step has been taken to ensure social distancing and cleanliness. The process for turning over each class is amazing and the work being done is fabulous. I also like that any team member I have spoken with has been helpful and reassuring that all safety measures are being followed. From the time we enter the building to the time we leave, I feel that the Goldfish team has our backs and is being safe. Thank you for your hard work!

So well organized and well prepared for safely reopening. The in and out of the building process and arrows makes sense and is easy to follow. The labeled and spaced out chairs are helpful. Teachers seem to be keeping themselves and the kids safe, while still having and promoting fun. I appreciate the cleaning of bathroom and changing stations after each use.

Goldfish does an excellent job at creating a calming, fun, and immersive experience for children of all ages. I’ve had my kids at age 1 to 5 participate in Goldfish swim classes and they’ve benefited greatly. The staff are kind, patient, knowledgeable, and informative.

At my workplace as part of a team exercise, we had to talk about a business that went above and beyond expectations. I used Goldfish Swim School as my example. Their brand promise is already high, but they surpass it effortlessly, going out of their way to accommodate for things like trying to get siblings in different age groups scheduled at the same time, for the sake of our convenience. I have one son who is significantly behind his peers in the water, and the teachers are so good at working with him gradually, handling his difficult days, and giving him the one-on-one attention he needs, all without neglecting the other kids in his group. After trying other swim schools, this is the golden standard.

Unfortunately the quality has declined and they have gone from a golden experience to horrible experiences. Not a good place for children.

Admin is terrible and the samme with some of the new teachers. Huge turnover with the swim staff. We were loyal customers for many years but not any more.

How do you rate an experience where the teachers were absolutely fantastic but the admin side of it was so disappointing? After giving it some thought I go with two stars. Here's why:
My two kids had attended the Okemos location for one month in July. We made it clear that they would only be attending one month and signed a withdrawal form for both of them on the day we signed up since 30-day notice was required.
After an amazing 1-month experience, we ended our time there. However a week later I found that my credit card was charged for one student ($84). My wife had to go back to the Okemos location and show the withdrawal form and have the charge cancelled. We were willing to consider this an honest mistake.
HOWEVER, TODAY, in SEPTEMBER, I get a notification that $84 has been charged yet again to my credit card!! We will have to go down to the location AGAIN to cancel this change. I am very disappointed this is happening after my kids had a wonderful experience here!
The teachers are definitely amazing and an upgrade from the teachers you may encounter at cheaper options. However, be on the look out for any erroneous charges being made to your card after quitting.

I was very hesitant to sign my kids up for Goldfish swim school, price being the main factor. But I thought we’d try it for the summer just to see if it was worth pursuing and was it ever! Kids don’t just learn to swim at Goldfish they learn all the survival techniques behind it as well. My kids were captivated with great teachers and a caring staff who truly believes in each child they teach. On top of all of that the facility is amazing! It’s truly worth every penny and you will see results. As a parent I can’t express my gratitude enough for really pushing my kids to Set new goals for themselves and then celebrating with them as they achieve them!
