Kaylin demonstrated and modified all movements for me. I came in feeling nervous, even though I workout out consistently and use weights. This is different and it still felt comfortable with her help.

Let’s be honest, Great Lakes Fitness probably doesn’t need another 5-star review to prove how awesome it is. I’m just writing this to say how much I appreciate everything they do to keep fitness fun, engaging, and sustainable.

If I could give the crew 6 stars, I would.

Sure, you can throw down barbells, jump on boxes, and try to make a pull-up look easy at other gyms, but what makes this place stand out is the effort they put into keeping it interesting, healthy, and genuinely fun.

The coaches are fantastic. Bill’s probably my number one, long hair, alternative music, no country, and a great attitude. Each coach brings their own vibe, so no matter who you are, you’ll find someone you click with. Cal is the go-to for perfecting your technique, and Amber is amazing at helping you modify workouts so they work for you.

I’ve been coming here for about two years and am closing in on my 250th class. I don’t always make the Committed Club, but they still let me come back (which is nice of them).

Definitely recommend this place, unless you’re a jerk, then please go somewhere else.

Member for life… or at least until I can’t move or we move.

I could not be more pleased after my first month at GLFC! I have learned so much in a short time. I have felt welcome, encouraged and supported since the moment I first stepped inside. Coach Cal and Bryce were top notch! I was in town vacationing and had the pleasure of working with both of them during my visit. Getting setup and paid for a drop-in class was quick and easy using the all inclusive app for payments, reservations, and communication. The community Cal has built at Great Lakes CrossFit was second to none. It speaks volumes of the coaches and the athletes. Everyone was beyond welcoming and friendly and I genuinely look forward to our next trip to MI so I can get to know everyone better on my next trip.

This is a great Crossfit gym. I stopped in here for a week of drop-ins, while in town to visit my family. The programming and facilities are exceptional. Due to my erratic schedule, I had a chance to work out with all of the coaches and found them very knowledgeable and extremely nice. I noticed they provided personal attention to members who were newer to Crossfit, but I didn't feel this took away from the coaching for the rest of the class. The best part of the week was the Saturday partner wod at the beach. Who knew burpees in the sand could be so painful?

I considered giving them one less star because all five-star reviews make me suspicious, but I couldn't find any good reason to do so. They have created a really great community and I will definitely stop here anytime I am in town.

I joined a friend for my first Cross Fit experience at Great Lakes CF on the 4th of July and had a lot of fun and got in a great workout! 4 months ago I realized I needed a change in my health and lifestyle and I stumbled upon Great Lakes Fitness Co. I read some of the reviews and just decided to take the leap into joining this gym. I was in desperate need of a change and my first meeting with Cal made me realize I had made the right decision. From the start of joining I noticed a change in my mood, behavior, overall well being, etc. The coaches are extremely knowledgable and incredibly helpful in teaching you how to do movements the correct way without getting injured. Also, they are seriously the kindest people you will ever meet, and I cannot stress that last part enough... Seriously the nicest people ever. That also extends to the other people that you workout with. Everyone is a big happy family pushing each other and having a ton of fun in the process. I seriously can't recommend enough to anyone considering joining this gym that you will have an amazing time and it will change your life in some way or another. I know it did mine.

I can’t say enough about how amazing my experience at Great Lakes CrossFit has been. Excellent coaches, fantastic programming, and warm community makes it a place I look forward to with each workout. I was concerned about trying CrossFit due to a chronic health issue, but Cal and Amber are throrough in meeting each member where they are at and scaling appropriately as needed. In the past 5 months my body has done far more than I thought it capable of with the help of careful coaching and a culture of nutrition. One of my main goals starting out was to be stronger in Lake Michigan, and it only took a couple of months to see strength results and feel more confident in the work I do on the water. After experiencing such amazing results and community, I have no intention of going back to being solo in my health and fitness. GLCF meets everyone where they are at in their fitness journey and takes them beyond what they thought possible.

I’ve been coming regularly to Great Lakes CrossFit for about three months now and I can say, hands down, this is the best gym I’ve ever been a part of. Cal has built a genuinely supportive environment for every single person who walks through the door, no matter where you’re at on your fitness journey. The positive, upbeat attitudes of Cal, Amber, and Bryce can’t help but to be contagious; every person at the gym is supportive and friendly. I was terrified of taking up CrossFit before starting here because I had perceived it to be way too “bro”-y, but that couldn’t be farther from the truth at GLCF. You’re still getting a killer workout, but it’s possible for anybody to do it! Check out GLCF. You won’t be disappointed.

10/13/22 - Just a quick update. I've now been a member of GLCF for just over a year and I still get excited to go to class every single day! My strength and mobility have improved by magnitudes. The friendships that I've developed at GLCF can't be beat as well. If you're in Holland and you're not working out at GLCF, you're doing something wrong.

Not all CrossFit gyms are equal, and Great Lakes is a step above. Not only is this the most welcoming gym/coaches I’ve ever trained with; but also the space is big, clean, and continually being improved upon, from classes / times to equipment.
Amber (owner, coach & yoga instructor) is a physical therapist who is always willing to provide modifications when necessary daily WODs.

I dropped in here during vacation and I can’t say enough wonderful things about my experience. The gym is exceptionally clean, the equipment is brand-new, and they have just about any piece you need. The coach/owner was very welcoming and went out of his way to ensure I had everything I needed and understood the class flow. Additionally, I am currently 13 weeks postpartum, he asked me appropriate questions to ensure my safety and reassured me there were modifications for the work out if I needed them. We had an absolutely amazing drop-in experience here with Coach Bill! I travel almost every weekend for work and drop in to gyms across the country and this is a really great gym! If I lived in Holland I would workout here. It’s very clear there is a strong, supportive community here. I loved seeing the owners in class as well: the sign of a great gym is when the owners and coaches perform the same workouts as members. If you live near Holland you should be here!

Great gym in a cool old building. Very nice equipment. My schedule doesn’t allow me
to make the group classes right now so I’ve been doing personal training sessions with Cal, one of the owners of the gym. The workouts are intense but this is the most productive time I’ve ever spent in a gym. Cal is very knowledgeable, professional and enthusiastic. He knows how to encourage and push without being annoying or condescending. Really good at what he does. Every workout is different so it’s never boring and always challenging - especially for someone who has not worked out for a long time. My level of fitness has definitely improved over the past fews months working with Cal. I highly recommend Great Lakes CrossFit.

I have been attending GLC for about 2 months now. As somebody who believes in minimum of a month of trying something before leaving a review I can’t say enough good things about this place. When I met the owner and his wife who also has an office inside of the gym I knew this place was special. In 2 months I’ve seen a change in my mental & physical strength. I’ve met new people and have formed gym bonds that get me excited about even 6 am classes. Great Lakes CrossFit has completely changed my relationship with health, fitness, and strength. As a newcomer to crossfit, I was hesitant and intimidated about training and classes. Went to GLCF for my first ever CrossFit class and was blown away by the quality of the experience. The gym was very spacious, clean, and filled with brand new top-of-the-line equipment. The regulars were very welcoming, and Cal - the owner - was incredibly gracious and knowledgeable. He was kind enough to open his gym to us for free to support a fundraiser for one of his previous students with a rare form of brain cancer. Can't say enough good things about the gym and its people. As someone who was new to CrossFit, I was somewhat hesitant to get started, but Great Lakes CrossFit provided the best introduction to a great workout experience. The foundation classes were beyond helpful to develop good form and understanding of the movements involved in the workouts. The coaches are extremely knowledgable and know the importance of recovery and taking care of your body- they include yoga classes and have a PT on site (amazing!). One of my favorite parts about this gym is the sense of community.. even at 6am, everyone in the gym is smiling and having a good time. And how can you say no to an occasional beach workout on Lake Michigan?
