Great local gym! The classes and instructors are fantastic and the gym equipment is clean and nice as well. I recently explored the trails and those are in great shape as well! The staff is always friendly!

Hamburg Fitness Center is absolutely outstanding! This gym has everything you could ask for — a clean, well-maintained facility, top-notch equipment, and a welcoming atmosphere that makes working out enjoyable.
The staff is always friendly, professional, and ready to help. You can tell they genuinely care about their members. The trainers are knowledgeable and motivating, and they create a positive environment for everyone — whether you’re just starting your fitness journey or have been training for years.
The locker rooms and pool area are spotless, and the sauna and hot tub are perfect for relaxing after a workout. There’s a great variety of classes, too — something for every fitness level and interest.
It’s clear that Hamburg Fitness Center takes pride in providing a clean, safe, and energizing space for its members. I’m thrilled to be part of this gym and wouldn’t go anywhere else.

Great gym. Tons of room. All the equipment you will need and more, but it's old and needs an upgrade. Pretty rusty, but it's weight. Love it here. Equipment needs an upgrade though, little rusty.

Sauna does not get above 145-150 and shut downs all the time. Went there up twice today and both times the temp was maybe 100. It used to be 175 up until about a year ago. A lot of us have said something to them and they have not done anything about fixing it. Seems like they are refusing to spend any money on a new unit that can consistently run and keep temps up to sauna temps.
Update: As of 4/21/25 the sauna is now hot again. Same unit but has consistently been 160+ the past week. Thank you

We had my daughter's first birthday here this past weekend and we had the best time! Everyone from the gym was extremely kind and helpful, the facilities were clean, the pool was warm, and there were bonus activities for the kids to do in the multipurpose room (coloring, basketballs, board games). All of the guests said it was such a fun party. It was perfect, and I wouldn't change a thing, we will definitely be doing more parties here in the future!

I just changed my negative review to a positive - this gym deserves 5+ stars. They have so much to offer that isn't matched with any other gym in the area.
The staff are incredible - very polite and helpful. I take a weight lifting class with the fitness instructor Ken, and he is amazing!
The sauna is another big draw to me. It is a traditional steam sauna, not infrared, which gets hotter and in my opinion offers more benefits. I love having access to the pool and hot tub as well.
The nature trails are a cherry on top. I like ending my work outs with a walk in the woods.
They are constantly offering educational classes on nutrition and health. I haven't checked out the yoga studio yet, but it's beautiful.
I'm very glad to have this gym in our area!
My kids have also attended the summer camp and loved it.
__
A few years ago we had very bad experience with a swim instructor, this was my first review:
The previous swim instructor, Zac, gets 5 stars - he was amazing with the kids - patient, kind and fun. My son looked forward to class and kept requesting to take more swim lessons. When Zac left, we signed up with another instructor, who was absolutely terrible. She barked orders at the kids, was impatient, and forced my son to do something underwater he wasn't comfortable doing - he left the class sobbing in tears saying he never wanted to swim again. He is such a sweet kid, it broke my heart.

Called tonight to get some info the man that answered the phone was very nice but the call ended quickly when I found out there is no water
Aerobics in the evening or on the weekends VERY disappointing I think they need to get a new teacher with better hrs or hire another teacher for the weekends and evenings some ppl do work like myself …
So with that being said I will have to find another gym …

This gym is a little hidden gem! I had lived in the local area for 4 years and didn’t know about it until I drove by one day randomly. The facility is older but has surprised me greatly. The building is large with lots of property and multiple offerings such as races, camps, etc. They also offer many different types of classes as well and some days even have a chiropractor on site. The facility has a pool, hot tub, sauna, basketball/pickle ball courts, and a nice selection of weights and machines. My favorites and what I use the most is the running/hiking trails in back for safe peaceful runs, as well as the little pocket upstairs that is for adults only and is mainly used for boxing and yoga.

Best club in the area. It’s aged like a fine wine! The caliber of athletes that train here is incredible. High standards, LOW egos, packed with positive people, geared towards family’s with a daycare center. I heard through the grapevine the spin class was incredibly. I plan on checking it out Monday at 6:00pm, I guess they also have classes Wednesday 6:00pm and Thursday 6:00pm. I’ve been a member since December, lost 17-lbs, Hoping spin class will take me the rest of my way to my goal🤙

75 dollars for a 1 month membership. Pool was closed when I signed up, staff did not offer me a tour or want to explain anything to me about what was offered with the membership, frankly they seemed annoyed by simple questions. When Pool was finally fixed I was excited to check it out, it was dirty, did not smell like not chlorine, and left a funky smell on me. Hours are HORRIBLE. Get it together or get new management. Staff, take more pride in your work. Once my membership expires at end of month I will be going to a different fitness center. Besides that gym, weights and resistance machines are great.

Came here for the “open gym” and they book it out to pickle ball players everyday and they take up the whole gym when they very well could only use half the gym. It’s dumb the amount of money I pay for the gym for them just to rent it out everyday for like 6 hours. They should only be able to rent out the small basketball court.

I was a member here over a decade ago and very little if anything has changed since then beside the cost. I chose this gym because of location as most other gyms are nearly 20 minutes away for me. I believe there’s a big opportunity for someone to give them some competition- at this point it really wouldn’t take much. Their pricing is similar to a newer wellness center (I.e Dexter) but the facility and equipment is sub par and I often feel the space is not cleaned well, despite them starting to vacuum right next to you mid workout over an hour before close. These are things I’d be willing to overlook if customer service/experience was good, but it’s very lacking there too- no hello when walking in, no have a good day, etc. other than one staff member I can recall is often too busy on their phones or in conversations with other employees to really care that you’re there. Their weekend hours are very limited as well and they start shutting the lights off on you an hour before close which in my opinion is a poor practice and really just tells your members that you dislike your job and doesn’t create a warm or inviting atmosphere. This is all on top of their Pool/hot tub area often being out of order or rented out to parties- it’s under construction now so I’m hoping it’s better once done because that was an area that I noticed hadn’t aged well over the last 10-15 years. This gym has so much potential to be a great resource to our community and a space people would enjoy coming, but it’s just so far from that. My membership expires in a few months and I will be looking for a new gym, even if it means I have to drive twice as far.

I agree with Kate Campbell’s review.
Facility: dingy, outdated, old equipment.
Childcare: limited hours (no sundays and early Saturdays). If you work traditional full-time hours (8-5ish), very limited childcare hours. Children under 8 cannot access any of the fitness areas.
Child’s “rec room”: broken bball game, broken foosball table, nothing else.
Family locker room doesn’t offer direct access to pool (you have to walk down a set of stairs, through lobby, then free weight area into pool.
Young boys (mine is 6) are not allowed in women’s locker room - which is fine, but the employee who very rudely informed me of unwritten/non-disclosed policy was extremely offensive, particularly when she asked, “are you okay with your son looking at naked women?” (Again, he’s 6!). Moreover, this was in front of other patrons! I was not only mortified but her tone, but EXTREMELY offended.
I truly wish we had a better family fitness facility in the area. Considering making the 20-30 min commute to Ann Arbor or canton (lifetime)

We signed up for Hamburg Fitness after being extremely excited that they offered child care. We did the tour and thought it looked a little dingy and outdated, but we figured that as long as they had child care it was worth it. We were wrong. Our first sign should have been when we first signed up. The gentleman working the front desk, informed us that we needed to provide our bank account information, which we did. Directly after we received a phone call from the gym, informing us that they need our debit card information even though the application they provided specifically requested your bank account information. We provided them our card information only to be embarrassed every single time we walked in the gym for the next three weeks straight when the desk staff continued to try to tell us our payment didn’t go through in front of other gym patrons. We would then have to inform them about the mixup, and show them on our bank statement as proof that the charge did indeed go through and provide our card information once again. After this issue was resolved, we ran into another issue, which was far worse. The child care is limit is two hours, which is fine. However, every time we drop our daughter off we are treated like an inconvenience. We had never even been informed that the limit was two hour until on a Saturday one of the childcare providers rudely asked my husband and I “Are you two really working out this long?” After replying yes we informed her that we got a workout in before attending the yoga class. After which she responded by saying “Well the limit is two hours, and by the way your baby has diaper rash, we didn’t know if you were aware.” When I left I was in tears because not only was I aware, but I apply diaper rash cream regularly and had applied it before dropping my daughter off. We pay for a membership for our infant daughter to attend childcare only to be treated poorly, so we continue to pay her membership but are no longer using the services. We figured we would try to make the best of it and continued to work out with the out dated equipment in an unclean environment, with an extremely rude desk staff. However, even though we were no longer using the childcare, we decided to sign our daughter up for swim lessons. It was an extra cost, but we didn’t mind we wanted to make sure daughter would be safe in the water. We attended the first few classes where not only us but other parents found the swim instructor to be extremely condescending and unprofessional, which seems to be the theme at this gym. Then on our third lesson she informed us that she was out for the week because she was sick. On the week of the fourth lesson she returned to tell us that she had gotten RSV while she was gone. The VERY NEXT WEEK she was out again WITH RSV and it was so bad she was on her way to the hospital after teaching a class of infants. She could have gotten any one of them sick. We are now attending Goldfish Swim School because even the swim lessons weren’t worth it. If we could get out of our contract now we would. Do not waste your time, money, or energy at this gym.
UPDATE: We have not heard from anyone at Hamburg fitness regarding this review contrary to what they posted beneath it. Directly after they did make sure to charge their monthly membership fees though! We were charged the very next day without anyone reaching out at all.

We love here! Very friendly staff, daycare is amazing, love the summer camp, equipment kept up and very clean, hot tub and sauna are amazing after a workout or swim. Pool is a little cold but great after a sweaty workout or class. There’s classes all day everyday and they come free with your membership. There are a few extra classes that you can pay for but they are not expensive at all. We enjoy the outdoor boot camp. Heather is an amazing instructor. I absolutely love the WERQ class. It’s easy to follow and I burn a ton of calories. The spin classes are easy to follow and burn a lot of calories. I liked that I could collect my thoughts during spin. My son goes to daycare when I do my classes and then we swim together. I like that they have the silver sneakers add on. The elderly really enjoy seeing my son when we walk to the daycare. He stops and waves to them.

I would not recommend taking swim classes with Mallory Lender. As an instructor, your job is to make children of all ages, sizes, and abilities feel safe and secure in the water. She does well with children who love to swim, but unfortunately has zero patience or tolerance for children that are scared of the water.
My son (4) is terrified of going under water. We enrolled him in her swim class to help him get over that fear. Today, Mallory became increasingly frustrated with my child when he said “no” and shook his head no to putting his face in the water. I am unsure of what happened at this point, but something lead to him leaving his class, bursting into tears, pleading to go home.
I made the hard decision to make my son finish the remaining several minutes of swim class. By the time I got him to agree to do “one more jump”, Mallory said “sorry, the class is over... and it’s not like he was listening to me anyway”. I asked again if he could just do one jump to teach him to finish the class, and she unwillingly obliged.
My son, still in tears, then mustered up the courage to jump to her. (I was really proud of him!) Out of fear, he jumped into her arms instead of straight into the water. Her reaction to his jump was mortifying. She exclaimed in front of the entire swim class that he was going to “physically injure” her and added in very mean way “what are you, like 50 pounds”. Needless to say, my son left in tears.
I have never in my life left a bad review or complained to a manager. Today, out of this experience, I did both. I truly hope no other family has to go through what we did today.

I was told my 12 year old could work out along with me on all of the gym equipment as well as attend all of the classes. If this was not true, I would not have wasted time on a tour or 45 min for orientation with my 12 year old on how to use the equipment. On our first day working out we were told we had to leave because the she was 12 and the rules were for 13 and up. She was doing nothing wrong and was respectful of all people and equipment. Apparently the staff is not all on the same page and the rules change depending on who is working. Being made to leave during our work out because of their error was rude and unprofessional.
I would never want to be a member of a fitness center where the rules change depending on who is working. Regardless if it is about age or any another reason, inconsistency is a bad business practice!

I love, love, love this fitness center! It is the very best in terms of exercise equipment , Staff, and natural surroundings! The pool is awesome, except when there is an instructor Torturing a baby in the pool upon the pretext of teaching it to swim. Here is a clue, a baby crying is in distress. This person obviously has had no children, because you can actually teach a child to swim while they are playing in the water.
If it were not for the rest of the staff and the awesomeness of the facility itself, I would actually give only one star. And, that is only because there is no option for negative stars.

I've trained there for over a year with my bro that won his weight class in a physique show last year. I have years of training experience and previously certified trainer via ISSA.
This gym is what I call a full service facility to include variety of fitness activity classes , daycare to some degree, racquet ball , basketball , and running trail. This gym would be a good overall fit for most people that want more than a crowded $10 per month place that I've heard offers free junk food , smh.
Now with that said to be picky , I think it is a bit pricey , but then one could argue to the end of time over the economics of it.... For me personally overall it is the location location location. Secondly maybe just maybe the price along with the location provides for better class of customers....
Side note - a gym in ann arbor tried the 10 bucks per month game and shortly later they got riff raff in there, huge brawl in lobby tore the place up......
The only thing really missing is a prone leg curl, an old school leg press on 45, hack sled, plus a dedicated deadlifting platform area.
They have a total of 3 power/safety racks for spot free training with free bar. Dumbbells to over 100 lbs . A variety of selector weight style and also some Hammer Strength brand plate loaded machines. Two cable cross over stations, plus a multi use cable unit upstairs. Oh nearly forgot for those that think the panacea of fat burning and fitness begins on a treadmill, they have a bunch of those on two floors.
I know nothing about their trainers. I've only seen one or two regularly training people. No crazy or stupid stuff like I've seen in other gyms so that is a good thing.

Hamburg Fitness Center and Camp is an AMAZING, clean, family-friendly facility that is operated by knowledgeable and caring staff. Having been a member for the past 5 years, I can honestly say that the negative reviews on here are far from the truth; it is disheartening to see that some people would go as far as to slander a business because they are unable to act like adults and are a part of a so called “possy” that made Hamburg Fitness Center and Camp exactly what it is NOT. An instructor was terminated for a legitimate reason, one that will not be discussed; however, that does not give anyone the right to defame a business that has been a staple in the community for years. All of the instructors and trainers at Hamburg Fitness Center and Camp are HIGHLY qualified and go above and beyond to provide their students/clients with the support and results that they desire. I am at this gym at least 4-5 times/week and I can honestly say the following because I have seen it firsthand: Childcare is clean and staffed appropriately; every week I see them use virex (a broad spectrum disinfectant) on all of their toys/surfaces in childcare. The gym carpet is vacuumed often. The pool and sauna are clean. All employees are required to be CPR certified and all instructors ARE required to have appropriate licensing. Many fitness competitors and athletes utilize this gym because of its state-of-the-art equipment and spacious layout. Please do not let the negative reviews change your mind of giving Hamburg Fitness Center and Camp a try! It is a wonderful facility that welcomes everyone and truly cares about its members. They make you feel as if you are a big family, which is one of the reasons why I will continue to be a member at Hamburg Fitness Center and Camp <3

I was a longtime member of this gym until recently. What started out as a place I enjoyed coming to with my children, ended in a waste of time and money. The management at this facility have no care or concern for their members. Often times we were lied to in terms of getting new and safe equipment, childcare availability and cleanliness. The employees are often seen cleaning, however carpets and floors are rarely touched. The final straw was management inappropriately terminating the only personal trainer I trusted and got results from. I am not the only one as she had a huge group that decided to terminate their memberships as well. Buyer beware. If you prepay for this gym and anything happens, you will not get refunded!!!!

I have been to a number of gyms in the last 10+ years. The gyms in the bigger cities where I once lived were always great when it came to cleanliness and equipment. The cons were that I just felt like another customer giving them my money. I never really felt a sense of community or connectedness, like I did at Hamburg (support from others is a huge plus when trying to achieve health goals). The one woman, Kelly Flethcer, who really put 100% of her time, effort, energy, expertise and talent into creating this environment has been terminated. Without this ace in their pocket, HFCC will just go back to being a less-than-average gym.

This gym has a lot of cross training options as well from trainers, pool, cycling to an outdoor trails with training stations if thats your thing.
