The updated facility is gorgeous. Finally open on Sundays! You can pay extra for after hours side entrance access but you can only access the workout equipment area. No lockers, saunas, pool, etc.

Renovations look great, staff is friendly. You can pay a small upcharge for after hour access to the workout area as well as the summit location. My only suggestion is opening the locker room for after hours. Summit only has one shower and is a further drive for me, but my after hour preference is driving out there so I dont drive home drenched in sweat. Overall great! π

Iβve had my child attend the swimming classes and summer camp for the past 3 years and will continue to love the Y! Iβm deducting a star due to open swim should not be going on while swimming classes are going on. Itβs a distraction to the kids and there is already limited seating, so itβs frustrating when open swim people are placing their stuff on the benches.

To be fair, this YMCA is undergoing major renovation, so right now it is a WRECK. I had to walk around 3 sides of the building before I could find the entrance, which is barely marked and essentially hidden. Parking is a joke. I went to inquire about their swimming program only to find out the pool is closed for at least 6months and the lap swimming is now only avaliable through local school pools for very limited time slots (5am-6:30am MWF at one school, 5:30pm-7:30pm TTh at another and a couple of hours on Saturday). Hopefully with the major renovations this time period for the Y will become a thing of the past. For now, it's really disappointing.

DO NOT JOIN!!! There are better options out there for you and your children!!! This building is run down. Staff are rude when answering calls and talking to your children while there. My kids were told they were not allowed to the restroom that they had to be 18 to be in the bathroom. Cancelled my membership was NEVER told about the cancellation policy so they charged my account. Then tried to speak with Ashley (management) she has no remorse for taking money out of my account even though the email was sent before 1/1/24 for cancellation. I am a single mother with 3 kids I did not have the money for them to take especially after the holidays! If they had told me about the policy one of the 3 times I called about cancelling or when I signed up that would have been great! Plus they were closed over the holidays. Myself and my children deserve better! So do you and your children!!!
Update: I expressed my concerns on the YMCA FB page. They deleted my comments and now have blocked me? Totally unprofessional for a Community Based Organization!!! Emailed the CEO no return email addressing the concerns made with the experience or the staff.

I love the Y but this location says it's family friendly but only has one small room to accommodate Littles. I also tried to take my almost 3 year old swimming and was literally right with him in arms reach the whole time and the life guard was very rude at the small pool.
My little guy took 2 fast steps before I then took a fast step to grab him. They yelled at my toddler to not run and made him cry. He's a kid and has never been to a pool before we are learning and yelling at my child will not teach him to be comfortable. I had it handled. When I asked the lifeguard what they wanted me to do she said "follow the rules, and control my child" we had not even stepped foot in the water yet. I took him in with a life jacket and he was scared and cried so we got out. This life guard then told me I "wasted my time coming here" how rude! My wife works at the store camps for the Y and I have never had issues at any other YMCA establishment. The life guard need training to understand how children act at different ages and to control their temper. We will be going to the Ann arbor location instead.

The YMCA is like my second home!!! I go there for physical, mental, and spiritual nourishment! I get positive encouragement from my dear friends, extended family, and Y staff. The staff are Always warm and friendly. The moment we walk in the door the kind, helpful staff greet us with smiles and salutations! The fitness center staff are knowledgeable and attentive to my family's needs. The aquatics staff keep a constant eye on EVERYTHING going on in the pool area. We don't have to worry about our children the staff are our second set of eyes. The YMCA is the perfect place to get families fit and healthy in a safe, friendly environment. We love Our YMCA family!!!β₯οΈ

It's a nice little place, people at the front desk are super kind, lifeguards can be strict so just be careful how you act. You have to wear a shirt in the main lobby or else you'll get lectured even if you're wearing a sports bra or a cover up. It's better to go early in the morning because they have swim lessons and if you go at like 5pm, usually the hot tub won't be open for free swim until 7 and the pool wont be open until 7:30 and they closed at 8pm when i was there.

I absolutely love this place! I love the atmosphere here and all the amenities they offer like rock climbing, sauna and steam rooms, the pool, the upstairs track, basketball courts, etc. I like the variety of weight machines and equipment they have available. My only complaint is they close on Sundays in the summer. Why would you close on a weekend day when almost everybody is off of work?

First time attending with my daughter for swim lessons, encountered a regular member who was very rude and inconsiderate- very disappointing considering this woman is a small business owner in the community. The lessons went well, so we decided to return with both our children. Unfortunately I canβt pay using the gift certificates they received so if Iβm lucky there might still be an opening in the classes we need when I have an opportunity to go to the location and sign them up.

We celebrated Halloween at the Y and had a fabulous time. Shooting at zombies, picking pumpkins in the aqua patch, cider and donuts, books and mittens for all the kids. THIS CHARITY IS A DISGRACE to include the name of Christian in its name. They have zero regard for Judeo/Christian principles and will terminate the employment of any person who actually obeys Scripture. They are more worried about their appearance to the world and the moneys generated from their fellowship with it. They willfully exploit the name of Christ to raise exorbitant funds to cater to those of privilege. No Christian should support this secular business that nullifies the very teachings of Christ and hides behind a fallacy of being a charity.

I signed up for a swimming class at my local YMCA. My first day of class our instructor told us to get in the shallow in and get wet. Our instructor then gave us life vest and was told to them jump off the diving board into the deep end and swim. I Went first and jumped into the water. MY LIFE VEST HAD HOLES IN IT I immediately sunk to the bottom screaming for my life, 6.9 seconds away from my death. The instructor dove under. Think he was going to save me. He held my head underwater forcing me to swim. He then started choking me under water and punching me. I took his vest off and floated to the top after I kicked him in the elbow. I swam as fast as I could on of the pool and ran for my life. I am currently suing the YMCA.

It is only surviving because because it is the only workout area in the city limits of jackson. The facilities are starting to show its age. The fees are the highest in the area. The support staff is paid minimum wage. The fact that it is located three blocks from two different police departments scares me a bit. Their parking lot is completely enclosed with no gates except for the North side. I could go through everything that is negative but it fits the neighborhood and city.

The YMCA is an excellent (and often underrated) part of the Jackson community. Numerous opportunities for fitness and recreation are offered for a very attractive price. There are various exercise classes, swim lessons, pick-up basketball, racquetball, rock climbing, an indoor track, a fairly well-equipped exercise machine room, and on-site child care. The staff are universally friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable about the programs and facilities. The building is open into the evening, so you can get your workout in after work.
Additionally, the YMCA supports the community in various ways, including an annual Turkey Trot race on Thanksgiving Day. In my opinion, the Y is well worth supporting with your patronage, even though it does not have the most cutting-edge equipment or fanciest building. It is a great member of the community and provides amazing value to its members.
