I agreed to give training sessions a chance since then I developed medical problems making things difficult. I attempted to cancel the training sessions while leaving the membership in placd so I could use the sauna. The website said I could cancel by email so I sent one nothing happened. So I called and told to come in. I went in twice, the ONLY person who can cancel the sessions was never there. I've left three messages and NOTHING. We won't talk about how I had to beg to get sessions by both this branch and Roseville. Older members BEWARE.

Rep asked me to sign a waiver through their signature machine. I asked to read the contract before I signed. She said there was no way to read it. I stood there and she decided to let me go behind her desk to read it on her screen. While I read, she said she couldn't let me use the gym without signing and also made a comment implying I was silly for asking to read a contract before signing it because it's a gym and that it's practice for reps to tell people what's in the contract before signing. I read it anyhow and then signed it. IT'S NOT OK TO HAVE PEOPLE SIGN A LEGALLY BINDING CONTRACT WITHOUT OFFERING THEM A CHANCE TO READ IT IN FULL BEFORE THEY SIGN OR TRY TO MAKE THEM FEEL BAD FOR REQUESTING TO READ IT BEFORE SIGNING.

Just letting everyone know that this place is BYOT (bring your own towels). It’s not explicitly stated on any signs or ads but when I asked about the lack of paper towels I was told flatly that you have to bring your own towels and/or paper towels. On 7/8/2025 I was at this gym 7am working out in pool as I've done for years.It's always up and down at this location. Around 7:30 A man dressed in clothes similar to staff said he needed to speak to me. I was confused I asked and clarified making sure he wanted me not the other ladies. I asked was he staff he said yes I exited pool. He said come talk to us when I went into opening he started beckoning me to come closer WE TALK HERE BACKING into shower. I said you can't be staff I not coming in there WHY you're not staff 😵‍💫. He ran thru locker room,I ran thru pool area out emergency door. I'm running thru gym in a swimsuit telling for someone to stop him. Not one moved but the lady at counter jumped and tried to catch him no success. Visibly shaken, couldn't proceed.I spoke with management on duty, gave a statement and went to the police station. I CALLED CORPORATE TO INFORM. Not one representative from La. Fitness has reached out that's disturbing. THIS NOT EASY, I CAN'T ERASE, IT HAPPENED IN TRAUMATIZED. I can't believe everyone is ignoring or playing it down. WHY IS THIS? I come there for peace, stress relieving and this happens! My PEACE WAS DESTROYED and life goes on. One we prior I can't in with two guest with passes They were stopped and harassed by Steve why didn't anyone stop and harass this man who has all the intent of harming Me out of all the guest Me who has to get redressed because they wouldn't let them in with VIP PASSES PRESENTED. I recently started using my Silver Sneakers benefit at this LA Fitness. This facility is close to my home, & it has all the machines I need to continue my cardiac rehab exercises. The staff that I've interacted with, so far, have been friendly. The facility is clean, & they provide wipes to wipe down the machines before/after use, which I appreciate. The temperature inside feels a little warm to me, I hope that they'll adjust that as we move into summer b/c it's more comfortable to exercise in a cooler environment. Parking outside is hit or miss. I have a disability parking placard, & all the reserved spots are almost always taken, & many of those cars don't have parking placards or plates to show they should be parking there. I don't suppose this facility can do anything about that, but as someone who is disabled, it is frustrating that those reserved parking spots are always taken. My biggest issue is the lack of available single user restrooms. The one that I saw has a sign on it that says "close until further notice", & when I asked one of the staff if there was another restroom available, they said no. I really hope they will get that restroom back in working order sooner rather than later.

La Fitness hot tub.... Seriously? Is this the best you can do?

It's even worse than before. Signs up, the hot tub has been down since May 1st.
The pool is utterly disgusting. There is a gray ring all the way around the pool. A visible line of dead skin and other unimaginable scunge. The filth is so thick that you could carve into it with a fingernail. The pool stairs are especially gross. I believe that no one has cleaned the pool in over a year. Just like with the Jacuzzi they just keep adding more chlorine. Sure it may kill some germs but the damn tiles has to be scrubbed frequently. In the pool there is also now a copious pile up of gray matter lingering on the bottom of the pool, it appears to be more dean skin, hair etc.
I don't believe that the pool is ever vacuumed as required for health and sanitation. I'll add pics when I check back in. I hate to make official reports but will have to notify the BBB and Health Department. This is now a significant public health hazard.

Open and airy. Clean. Slow to repair equipment. Friendly staff. Crowd size varies depending on time of day and season.
Has swimming pool, sauna, whirlpool.
At times some pieces of equipment ( stack pins) go missing causing people to scavenge to use a machine.

Part of machine repair problems is that there are only 2 or 3 Repairmen to cover SE Michigan region.

I was in town visiting family and used one of their guest passes. If I was local, this would be my facility of choice. Also gotta give a huge shoutout to Brandon G. He gave me a walk through of the gym and showed me some of their coolest equipment that my local Powerhouse doesn’t have. Solid guy, super nice.

I started my membership in the beginning of December, and have been averaging 2-3 times a week. I like to workout in the large unoccupied room that hosts the classes and has the punching bags. I use their app to make sure there’s not a fitness class going on in the room before going.
I will say its a nice facility but feel it’s not kept up well. It’s always been difficult finding yoga mats that are in one piece. This week this punching bag was left in pieces all over the floor. The female bathroom showers regularly have hair and bandaids in them. The pool has been out of order multiple times since I started coming.
Like coming here but wish it was better maintained.

The way me & my daughter were disrespected by the staff at this location is unbelievable! That young man has the WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I have ever experienced. Never really liked this location its dirty and small but after getting called in by Mello the trainer I am no longer considering keeping my membership since I was letting this session be my deciding factor and will instead be renewing my membership at planet fitness. Where they aren't so judgy and rude. I informed this man before coming in my lungs were weak. Stated it several times on the phone. I understand trainers are supposed to be pushy but don't judge me because I'm about to have a heart attack or lung collapse. I've been a massage therapist for twenty years and understand every BODY is different. Trainers should as well. And especially don't speak on me wasting your time no my morning was absolutely wasted. I dont appreciate experiencing that bad energy for even a second of my day. Half the members don’t re-rack weights. Machines are constantly broken. The bench press machine and calf raise machine have broken for months. The costumer service of LA fitness is ridiculous! Think twice before enrole with LA membership. The app don't offer you the option for cancel. The facilities themselves are fine. Most machines work, dumbbells are in good condition, and usually maintenance is kept up on the machine. My gripes are with the cleanliness. When you walk in it smells quite pungent (not bleach clean pungent, but rather hoarder house pungent). Locker rooms are usually trashed and they just don't seem clean. I'm also not sure if this is just me but my allergies / sinus issues are noticeably worse in this place. Home, the Saint Clair shores LA Fitness, and other public places do not cause a reaction. If you are getting sick a bit more often and frequenting this gym then maybe the reason is this business.

GUARANTEED WEIGHT LOSS at this gym comparable to Wegovy and Ozempic as your colon convulses with diarrhea contracted from E-Coli and Norovirus laden surfaces. Toilet paper, paper towels and soap are luxury items, strictly rationed (1 of 5 dispensers filled) and sales manager Emma instructing janitorial staff to "water down the soap" to stretch limited supply. Ladies toilets are unusable covered in menstrual blood, urine and fecal matter (not surprising given a lack of toilet paper) which management dismisses because, "there's no female janitor available until 7 pm and corporate won't provide necessary budget for paper products". Manager Reno simultaneously claims there's no budget for paper products/basic sanitation and authorizes an expensive refinishing of the hardwood floor, the only surface of the facility that didn't require attention, an obvious misappropriation/mismanagement of budget. The lack of toilet paper and paper towel is an ongoing issue and is well documented in reviews posted July 2023. Nothing changes at this location and because it's located in Detroit, management assumes they'll never be inspected or investigated by the Detroit Health Department or LARA. Mats, weights and cardio machines are NEVER wiped down with disinfectant and supplies for patrons to wipe surfaces consist of dried-out wet wipes...not disinfectant sprays or paper towels. A petri dish of microorganisms like E-Coli, Norovirus, Rotavirus, MRSA and Ringworm waiting to infect unsuspecting members and send them to the ER and infectious disease ward at nearby St. John Hospital. Medical staff from the hospital arrive wearing dirty scrubs during their lunch hour, bringing hospital borne disease and returning to the hospital with gym acquired infectious agents, vectors of contagious disease akin to smallpox blankets. Post Covid pandemic, LA Fitness at Mack and Moross is poised to be the next Wuhan Market/epicenter of contagion, ground zero of pathogenic plague. In addition to overpriced monthly and annual fees, members should budget for the endless rolls of toilet paper, loads of soiled laundry, packages of Immodium and Pepto, electrolyte rehydration solution, lost work, hospital visits and prescription medication and potentially lost life for elderly members or those with compromised immune systems/preexisting medical conditions.

The gym itself is ok. The staff is not very friendly but they do give you the requisite, "Have a good workout" when you come in. It's a decent gym with the addition of a pool and hot tub as a bonus. However, if you have some disabilities, this may not be the gym for you. I tried to take the AquaFit class this morning but was ordered out of the pool by the instructor because I was unable to participate as completely as she deemed necessary due to my physical health issues. When I tried to explain she said she didn't care and that I had to go. I knew there would be some things I couldn't do but there would also be things I could, had she allowed me to stay.
Besides the discrimination, there are other issues for those of us with disabilities at this location. The bathroom has one handicap stall and it has been nonfunctional for numerous months. There are only bars in one of the shower stalls despite numerous requests for more over a 6 month period. Overall, there are better locations, with cleaner facilities, and nicer staff.

Long-Term member and this gym always surprises us with its absolutely slum-like conditions which really insult everybody, including the wonderful manager who tries so hard. The newest issue they've rationed toilet paper and paper towels. So now the place is a depository of unclean body substances that get on the mats and equipment because people literally don't have toilet paper or towels. And of course, soap is a luxury. This should be investigated by the city of Detroit Health Department and perhaps shut down. The managers is all of them, including the current one are totally sympathetic. Disgusting facility (pet hair and layers of dust annd debri on base and crevices of machine) always hot and wreaks of sweat. Encountered rude salesman recently and also heard racial slurs used at the front desk by staff once. Seems as though management is never around or doesn’t care much about the Moross location. Very disappointing.
Shopped at a local competitor, and the machines were clean, there was fresh cool air and no stinky smells.
I go because it’s convenient but it’s worth it to drive further out for a better experience and same price.

Wishing they had a no-stars rating. If you like a gym where patrons can do whatever they want, like; not wiping down machines, trashing the locker room, using speakers to blast profanity-laced rap music in the locker room, hang their dirty/wet laundry in sauna, etc., This is the place for you.

I have complained to management several times and they have done nothing. Also emailed their corporate offices and they never responded.

I'm guessing they have given up trying for their locations in or close the Detroit.

I love the staff and the atmosphere. Alot of the machines are broken but you just move to the next available one. I love that it's walking distance from my job and five minutes away from my home. The sauna room gives me life. I can't wait to join one of the classes.

I like this gym and La fitness chains. For the money, and location I am very impressed . Some machines are broke, but there are other alternatives. I read very racist comments on this preview, and completely disagree with their statements. Monday-Thursday mid afternoons to early evenings all the gyms are typically are very full. People will grunt while lifting weights, and naturally things get dirty regardless of any race or ethnicity. Early mornings are best times , if any individual/groups chose to workout, the gym is cleaner, and spacious. For the pool, jacuzzi, sauna, weight/cardio room, spinning and exercise and friendly personel I think it is the best deal in town.

I’ve kept this to myself for about three years because I don’t like to leave negative reviews, and there aren’t any comparable options in this area in terms of gyms with hot tubs and pools. But this gym is incredibly disappointing, and that’s putting it nicely. It’s been taking advantage of members and offering suboptimal services for quite some time.

Amenities like the pool and hot tub are frequently unavailable. And by frequently, I mean that within the last two months, the hot tub was only available for approximately five days. The pool was available for six. In other words, members weren’t able to use either for about a month and a half.

When you ask management about it the response is absurd, “The gym doesn’t guarantee amenities.” Well, a lot of the gym equipment is broken as well.

My takeaway-if some entrepreneurial spirit were so inclined, there is definitely room in the market for a fitness center that would give residents of Detroit’s East Side the service they pay for and don’t receive with LA Fitness.

We count on being able to consistently use the pool for fitness and Aqua Class. But the pool has been down for several week. I was told they didn’t know when it would reopen.. This is just poor planning, poor management and poor customer service!!!

7 years ago I gave this place 4 stars. I am updating my review. The staff at check in here is cool but janitors SUCK! I opened up a few locks they were filled with dirt & hair. The equipment is Nasty dirty. 🤮 u can see the dust, dirt, hair & trash as If never cleaned. Most LA fitness' have gone down hill not caring what they look like. You need to start varing about your business. Look at all of the out of order signs. That is why members are leaving here & getting memberships at their competitors. Here's s reality check no more member = no more $ coming in for u = no $ to pay & retain staff= no more gym. Duh!

When I walked in, I did the Oprah …Ahhhhh 😳 wow what a place there were so many machines to work on they had a full size Olympic size pool, Jacuzzi, sauna, racquetball, you name it they’ve got it!! I fell in love with this place get in there and start working out and make a better you because you deserve the best

Currently looking for a new gym. This gym is a big let down despite the potential it has. There’s a certain “crowd” that goes here that ruins the experience. They have no gym etiquette. Don’t re-rack weights, stand right in front of the mirrors doing their shoulder flys. There’s even this one guy that jump ropes right in front of the drinking fountain even though there’s a ginormous wide open aerobic room right behind him. And the staff do nothing about it. Equipment is missing all the time. It’s sad because it really is a good location and like I said a lot of potential. But it’s just ran poorly and people take advantage of that because of it

Update - so I tried going to the st Clair shores location. Not much different. Still the same crowd. Currently have two people using a bench to hold their phones. Another guy yelling across the gym to his friend for no reason, disrupting everyone’s workout.

The staff is less than welcoming with no understanding of customer service, and the equipment is in terrible condition or broken. The last step was last Wednesday during our visit, I went around to every paper towel dispenser to clean the machine after my use and they were completely out; including majority of the disinfectants… When I went to tell the staff they informed me they don’t have any, and are on back order until Friday… There was zero paper towel and no cleaning happening for over a week!! How an organization can think this is okay, especially after just coming out of a pandemic.. I can’t comprehend! The least they could have done was go to Costco and bought bulk to hold them over until then… but not even that amount of thought went into it.

As an update from 7/5… Today is 7/10… They still do not have paper towel, and stating the outage will continue through Friday 7/14! We left the gym due to the layer of filth on the stair master, and could only imagine how the other machines would be. Extremely disappointing and a terrible look for the reputation of LA Fitness.

Oh boy, where do I even begin with LA Fitness? It’s like stepping into a comedy show disguised as a gym. From the awkward attempts at coordination to the hilarious mishaps, this place keeps me entertained while I sweat out my troubles.

And the weightlifting section! It’s like a comedy club for muscle enthusiasts. Picture this: a newbie like me, attempting to lift weights that are way too heavy, grunting with determination while secretly dying inside. I’m sure the veteran bodybuilders are having a good laugh watching my feeble attempts to pump iron. But hey, at least I provide them with some entertainment during their rest breaks.

Now, let’s talk about the cardio area. Oh boy, the treadmill escapades! I’ve witnessed some epic treadmill fails that would make America’s Funniest Home Videos proud. People falling off, tripping, or attempting to run at top speed while scrolling through their Instagram feed. It’s a real-life comedy show, and I’m the audience member trying to hold back tears of laughter.

But hey, all jokes aside, LA Fitness is a fantastic place to let loose, have fun, and get fit in the process. The friendly staff adds to the comedic atmosphere, always ready with a smile and a chuckle. So, if you’re looking for a gym where your workout routine doubles as a comedy routine, LA Fitness is the place to be. It’s a guaranteed laughter-filled adventure that’ll leave you in stitches while you work on those abs.

The cleaning lady had the locker room reaking of bleach at 730pm May 13th, 30 minutes before close. Then she opened up the sauna with 4 members inside of it, including myself, to clean the inside of the door, letting all of the hot air out. Completely ruined my experience today.

The location has so much potential, but a slow downward spiral and lack of maintenance has made this gym inadequate on a good day. No cable accessories (the few they have are broken), forever-broken machines, lost equipment... They don't even have the pins for the cables to hold weight. The atmosphere is nice, the people are usually pretty good, and the employees (minus the salesy salesmen) are really cheerful. But the lack of care for the place really outcompetes the positives. I hope the gym can bounce back.

Best one in macomb county. The one on Gratiot in Roseville is messy, overcrowded and smells horrible. I tried the one on Gratiot because I thought it might be a little less crowded since it’s bigger, but it was horrible. Didn’t even finish my workout. Left and drove to this one. Haha

One of the worst locations in the country. The Hot tub and spa is forever down. Many times I have called before going to check, I'm told both are working only to arrive and one ot both are down. Management doesn't care and the Director is a ghost. There's no sense in calling him, He never answer or return calls.
